GOVERNMENT AUCTION - Inspection Day and Sale $$$ ** ALL ACCESS **

  • I’m at the latest State surplus auction here in Delaware to inspect the cars. Join the tour of the auction yard as I inspect the different Caprice PPV's, Tahoe PPV's and Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor's and come up with what I think is the right price considering the condition, mileage and possible repairs needed to the cars. Every car at the auction was sold, some for a good price while others were wildly overpriced.

      It was nice, but $4,200 can get you a civilian model and leave you money leftover; that's a lot of money for an old cop car. The only thing that makes it slightly worthwhile are low miles, fine condition, and very low idle hours; however, if one were looking for a nicer car, one (or, at least, most people) would willingly take a civilian with many more miles on it.

      @Mike Carey They don't. Civilian Caprices are only sold in the Middle East, and in Australia they are sold as Holden Statesmans (both the civilian Caprice and the US PPV models are built by Holden in Australia). In the USA the only legal way to own a Caprice is to buy a used PPV from police auction (like in the video)

Can't really get them cheap cheap and in good shape anymore. I'm lucky I bought my 2007 P71 here in Canada, NS for $2700 with 183 hr and 76K mi / 121K kms. Guy winter stored it last 4 winters and all I did was oil cooler lines, brakes and fluid changes (just need to fix ebrake cable big whoop). I'm storing it this winter too.

    You could pick up a few of those crown vic's, for about $1500 which they sold for and do a quick detail and sell them for easy $2500 without doing much to them, they are way under priced at $1500 auction value. Why bother with transmission swaps and DOD issues only one getting rich off that is the mechanics. Quick $1,000 on each car or more is your best bet on those. Plenty of people that did not go to the auction would buy those for $2500-$2800 or more even with the issues.

    A chevy engine ticking? Say it isn't so. That thing will tick forever and still keep going.

  • @gosportjamie
    @gosportjamie 4 роки тому

    Listening back to your videos will often tell you if there's any ticking in the engine as the microphone will often pick up and amplify any minor ticking you might not otherwise be able to hear. On the Caprice with the declared broken suspension arm, I'll lay odds that the ABS fault showing up is caused by damaged wiring to a wheel speed sensor on the corner with the suspension issue, and the traction control fault will be caused by the ABS issue as the traction control computer compares the wheel speeds at all 4 corners to establish whether the rear wheels are spinning. If it's not getting a reading from one wheel then the traction control will fault out, but it should be an easy and relatively cheap fix. Those Holden Commodore Caprices are certainly a lot of car for the money even in police spec as you still get all the toys you really need, unlike older police package vehicles that could be very basic indeed...

    • @gosportjamie
      @gosportjamie 4 роки тому

      @@hullinger No problems. It applies on pretty much any vehicle where you're seeing warning lights for ABS and traction control. The expensive issues often only crop up on vehicles where the ABS is working but the traction control system has failed out. That's often a sign of very expensive electronic failures that are definitely something to steer clear of. I know of several models of vehicle where replacement traction control modules are only available from the manufacturer and cost well over £5,000. Naturally, these are modules that usually can't be repaired when they fail...

      Thanks so much for following along and for the comment too, and hello to Scotland from Wilmington, Delaware! It's crazy what a Crown Vic sells for in Europe but I guess it's supply and demand too, plus transportation costs to get there. I've been searching here in the US for a Tatra 603 but they're nearly non existent and probably for the same reasons.

    I'm no pro, but $5200 for a 2012 caprice with 138k, plus, lets say another $1500 to fix the issues listed, plus a cleaning/detail and marketing, and I'm low balling that $1500 number. That's $6700. You put it out for what? $8900 as is or with some kind of aftermarket warranty? Unless you got that customer that really has to have one of these to me it seems like a hard sell.

      We need to import the Caprice back to Australia. Your looking at over USD14k for a Caprice V and USD17k from a dealer with 70k miles. I'm looking at one for $5k but it has 300k miles on it.

      Brotha, I was shocked too by the $4200 that blue '07 Vic brought. It's still a 12 year old car and not really sure it deserves that much $$$. I was a bidder up to the $2K range and walked away. My eyes popped out when I saw the final bid amount! DANG!

Sum department in California are getting the Vic’s refurbished. We see all the new police cars charger Taurus caprice the Vic’s still outlasting them .

    What are D O D issues?

    • @hullinger
      @hullinger  4 роки тому +5

      Thanks for checking out my latest auction video. When I mentioned DOD, it's Chevy's version of cylinder deactivation. DOD stands for Displacement on Demand and it's on most GM V8's since 2007. The system has a known problem with the cam lifters going bad and causing a lifter tap. The tap gets worse and worse until the camshaft wears down. On these engines, you have to remove the heads to get to the lifters and the front of the engine needs to come apart to get to the cam. It's around a $4k bill for the work since while you have the engine apart it's wise to replace other parts too. GM claims a 5%-7% fuel mileage increase with DOD however the cost to repair the system when it breaks just doesn't make sense.

      @hullinger  4 роки тому

      DOD is short for Displacement on Demand. It's Chevy's version of cylinder deactivation. The problem is that the system gets wonky sometimes and destroys cams and/or lifters. It's a very expensive fix.
