“It is a totally authentic, properly Italian, aresting, overwhelming experience, that makes it a perfect antidote to indifference and ordinaries.” What an amazing line. Outstanding work, Derek. Keep it up.
Glad to see these are continuing. They're so unique in capturing the experience of these cars with excellent cinematography, audio, and writing. Your passion for these cars comes through so well. The way you integrate the historical context is so enlightening too. Edit: we need DTS-narrated audiobooks on automotive history.
Thanks for this. There is such a shortage of Diablo content out there it boggles the mind. This car was THE supercar of the 1990s but to look online you would think it was an afterthought. I worked at a Toyota dealership the summer of 1998, my senior year of high school. The owner of the dealership also had an exotic car dealership and would often bring his toys around. One night he left a red Diablo VT in the service bay after hours. Me and my buddy opened the scissor doors and hopped in. We didn’t dare drive it but just getting to sit in it we nearly lost our minds.
It was 1997, I was a spacey 11-year-old, daydreaming in the window seat of a tour bus with a bunch of other boys from the U.S. as we putted down an English freeway. All of the sudden, a chorus of boys erupted with this strange exclamation: "Lam-bor-ghi-niiiii!!!!" A yellow flash, a screaming engine howl, and this sculptural wedge that was somehow the footprint of a car yet roughly 3 inches tall, disappearing into the distance on steamrollers tires. That was it: the fraction of a second where this automotive agnostic became a diehard enthusiast. Your videos are always a cut above, and this one was an absolute masterpiece. Thank you!
One little suggestion: Turn the music down a little bit when Derek is doing the voice over since his voice is rather soft and gentle so sometimes it‘s bit hard to hear from rocking synth-wave background music
Audio mixing is really hard, we see this mistake a lot. I'm going to guess that the editor's audio is compromised for any variety of totally reasonable reasons, and on their setup, it probably sounds fine. But I agree, the music needs quite a few DB of ducking during the voiceover.
Great show as per usual. Yourself and the budget Adam Sandler dude with probably Henry Beanpole thrown into the mix for good measure are making the best automotive content available today.
"A car designed for those who revel in driving quickly, not in an effortless way, but in a 110% experience sort of way". That really perfectly describes the difference between today's high-performance cars and unforgettable analog cars of the past.
I'm glad that Chrysler ordered the redesign of Gandini's original. The car is so much better off for it, and one of the best looking supercars of all time, IMO. Thanks for making this great little documentary DTS!
Just a few years ago, as recently as 2020, this car was completely invisible to all but the most die-hard Lamborghini enthusiasts. Now, this car has reached total celebrity status - everyone at car shows gawks over a Diablo (sometimes, even more than an aventador or countach). It’s kind of endearing honestly. I never thought this car would ever be cool again, even after it was featured in all the 90s racing video games.
Thank you for continuing to produce and make these films Mr Hyphen. This and all the others are a honest look into a whole ton of cars which never have this level of detail about what it's actually like to DRIVE them. The honesty of the driving sells it a huge amount too.
The Diablo has one of the nicest supercars of all time, especially the later variants like the SE30, SV, VT Roadster like this one, VT 6.0 etc.... Here's why the Diablo is actually one of the greatest in Lambo history 1. First Lambo to hit 200mph 2. First Lambo to hit 500bhp+ 3. First Lambo to introduce roadster edition like this one. Man that looks beautiful and timeless 4. First Lambo to take out Soo many variants 5. First Lambo that actually paved the modern day Lambo V12 design. 2 front vents, 3 on each side and 2 in the rear. Still being utilized today. 6. It was the first Lambo to bring balance of timeless aesthetics, the sound, the usability etc 7. First Lambo to have million different interior designs as well. Later variants like the VT 6.0 had a game changing interior. 8. Last of the real raw Lambo 9. Lambo was never meant to be perfect and that's what the Diablo brought. The Aventador etc are just too fake in my opinion. Everything about them screams Audi 10. One of the best sounding Lambos and general supercar of all time. Don't believe me? Watch the Lamborghini Diablo GT Bonus: Last Lambo to be part of racing heritage Diablo as mentioned above in my opinion is one of the most underappreciated supercars of all time despite the fact that it literally did so much for Lamborghini (mentioned above) Timeless design, uncontested 🔥🔥😕....I am super glad to see their value increasing substantially now Never will forget what Need for Speed 3 stated "when you drive a Diablo, you can expect to be the center of attention wherever you go, it's that kind of car" words that are even true today Id take a SV, SE30 or GT over any modern day V12 Lambo Lastly, you can never forget the words of Jeremy Clarkson "The Diablo was designed to be the biggest head turner". Very true
I've only seen a Diablo live maybe 3 times. One of those was parked outside a London pub and looked exactly like the one in the video. Just stunning. Thank you for the video.
Less than 3 minutes in, and I can already say that Derek is back and in most excellent form.. I do wish the music behind the VO was lowered a tad just to really let the words stand out and resonate..
This is great, thanks Derek. Really well scripted and put together, with lots of lesser known details. And that noise, especially heel and toeing down the box !
Too bad magazines are dead. DTS has a "belle plume" and his lines deserve to be read on paper. Here's a suggestion: a coffee table kind of book (i.e. hardcover book with glossy pictures) compiling DTS' reviews, published yearly or evey couple years. That would make a great Christmas gift for a car enthusiast... like me. ;)
After so many years of being a car enthusiast, still nothing can get my heart pumping as much as a Diablo. The silver one in this video is so damn amazing and the video itself is superb as well!
My poster car as a child was a black Lamborghini Diablo VT, model 1994. I ended up growing up and admiring Japanese cars, but diablo started my interest in the subject.
It was supposed to look like the Cizeta V16T. When Chrysler bought them, the design was rounded. I followed the very tumultuous history, in several car magazines throughout the 80's and 90's. I love the David E Davis quote. I got to meet him once in a northern Michigan bookstore. If I had lots of money, I would prefer the Diablo over lots of other cars. Thanks.
Derek, I’ve owned a V12 Ferrari since 2017 and the car you drove, the 1999 Diablo Roaster was always my dream car! Unfortunately I think I missed my opportunity to buy one seeing as now a Diablo Roadster seems to be around $300,000 to $450,000 or more. To me the Diablo Roadster was always the ultimate Lamborghini. It’s still a car that requires your constant attention while driving but it’s almost a transitional period piece when Lamborghini went from almost an animal that wants to kill you to the more German engineered Murcielago which almost anyone can drive. Great video!
I always have a wry smile when I watch a Countach or Diablo owner pull away gingerly at very low revs, confirming the owner is mindful of the cost of a replacement clutch and the very short lifespan of of one used like a regular car, or in anger.
Ahh, I enjoyed the few 60FPS shots of the Lotus video, was hoping you'd continue that with future videos. If possible - please continue recording these gorgeous videos in 60 FPS. Also, damn that Diablo sounds incredible.
I'd love to see a Diablo irl, it was just "one of those cars" during the 90s that if you were a kid at that time, you just were awestruck by. I've been fortunate enough to see a Countach tho.
I'm glad Gandini got his design on the road after all with the Cizeta V16T. The Diablo really had to grow on me over the years - but today I prefer it's exterior over the Murcielago and Gallardo.
DTS - great overview, but given the litany of revisions preceding its launch, a nod to the Gandino designed Cizetta (claimed to be a closer approximation to his original vision) as a relatively uncompromised counterpoint would have been a welcome addition.
Hyphen! UA-cam has finally directed me here, I am glad to see you’re continuing the BTS with DTS type videos. Love the Diablo - a huge hero car for me, I should never drive one (not that I ever will 😂)
I like it but the next Lamborghini generation is probably going to be my first choice over this one because it’s more German meets Italian design language . The diablo is more of a collector car . Truly a work of art 😊
@10:40 That’s what I heard. I’ve met three Diablo owners and yes, they all said the same thing “the design and quality of the Diablo interior is not good.”
Call me crazy, but I think some jank should be part of the Lamborghini experience. That's one reason the post-Volkswagen buyout cars have never really excited me. OK, it's built in Italy and looks like a Lamborghini, but the guts were made by VAG engineers and it feels like an Audi. Great for people who just want their expensive car to work, but not very exciting.
Perfect cars are boring. That`s why I love old school super (sports) cars, and that`s why I`m building my own - for a chance to feel alive, for an experience of being alive. And I don`t care how unperfect those cars are - I don`t care about appliances. Good video, very good one indeed, cheers!
In short. Diablo wouldn't go on sale unless it's design would change from hideous to beautiful. Although roadster kept some of the goofy shapes from the original design. Love the video
I can still remember DMX in one of his movies buying a silver Lamborghini Diablo with a bag full of cash and throwing the car seller the whole bag 💼 of cash iconic epic 😮😊😅unforgettable scene
“It is a totally authentic, properly Italian, aresting, overwhelming experience, that makes it a perfect antidote to indifference and ordinaries.” What an amazing line. Outstanding work, Derek. Keep it up.
I love your style of videos Hyphen and am so glad you guys at OTS are continuing it!!

@@lowstrifeI think adding a bit of a filter to cut some of the clashing frequencies while he is speaking might help also
Great show as per usual. Yourself and the budget Adam Sandler dude with probably Henry Beanpole thrown into the mix for good measure are making the best automotive content available today.
lol jason "content" cammisa and catchpole are true car gods
"A car designed for those who revel in driving quickly, not in an effortless way, but in a 110% experience sort of way". That really perfectly describes the difference between today's high-performance cars and unforgettable analog cars of the past.
A fine Christmas surprise indeed. DTS makes some of the only videos I've ever watched more than once.
He kept ISSIMI relevant on UA-cam.
This is your best video so far! Great job Derek and the crew, loved it 💯❤️
I'm glad that Chrysler ordered the redesign of Gandini's original. The car is so much better off for it, and one of the best looking supercars of all time, IMO. Thanks for making this great little documentary DTS!

Amazing video. Great editing, location, shoots, and voiceover.
Your videos never fail to make me absolutely NEED the car. Brilliantly done, and Merry Christmas!

Brilliant! DTS via OTS! I'm sold. Best and happiest of holidays to all! 👍
Awesome video! Thank you for sharing the drive with us! 😊
that closing line along with a mundane corolla driving on the opposite direction, perfect timing! kudos!
Great reboot of DTS. Keep them coming.
The Lamborghini Diablo has always been and it will always be my ultimate dream car.
Awesome video! Love hearing all the background and history of the car
Less than 3 minutes in, and I can already say that Derek is back and in most excellent form.. I do wish the music behind the VO was lowered a tad just to really let the words stand out and resonate..

Beautiful specimen and gorgeous backdrop scenery, the American north west
This is one of the videos I wait to watch on the TV with the subs cranked up. Fantastic work as always Hyphen
A very good video, professional-like 🙂. And the Diablo is a very good car. I have the 6.0 and love it.
Another outstanding presentation! Merry Christmas.

one of my very first poster cars. still one of my all time favorite supercars
After so many years of being a car enthusiast, still nothing can get my heart pumping as much as a Diablo. The silver one in this video is so damn amazing and the video itself is superb as well!
It's pretty awesome and serendipitous to have a gray Corolla drive by that Diablo at the very last second of the video.
Hopefully the algorithm gets more eyeballs and ears on these videos, some of the best on UA-cam
Hi DTS, this is fantastic, I have only just discovered your new channel, very best of luck with it.
Great video, thanks! A purple Diablo was the first car I coveted when I was a kid.😆
Best Diablo video. Best. Simply best. I mean on UA-cam.
My poster car as a child was a black Lamborghini Diablo VT, model 1994. I ended up growing up and admiring Japanese cars, but diablo started my interest in the subject.
lovely video as always , good jot OTS and Cartales team
Well written & researched!
A really great video from my favourite car of all time. Just love it👍❤️

A very interesting backstory and a well-produced video
Derek, I’ve owned a V12 Ferrari since 2017 and the car you drove, the 1999 Diablo Roaster was always my dream car!

Great video!
Some great B-Roll. I've never seen a Countach or Diablo do smoky burnouts before.
I've always loved the later Diablo with the fixed headlights. I'm surprised to hear that it's the opposite of a brutal driving experience!
The return of BTS with DT-S
How I've missed these videos
DTS’s storytelling when profiling iconic cars keeps me fascinated from start to finish!
Well done. Good channel!
Wonderful video, keep em coming =)
That's a killer car and an amazing video.
I always have a wry smile when I watch a Countach or Diablo owner pull away gingerly at very low revs, confirming the owner is mindful of the cost of a replacement clutch and the very short lifespan of of one used like a regular car, or in anger.
Fantastic review! Thank you. Subbed

Quoting David E. Davis... +1 nice job Derek!
I remember coming off of a ramp near my home in Oakland, CA and seeing Derek in a blue Countach. This was maybe 3-4 years ago.
19th November 2020, according to my spreadsheet. Tahiti blue LP400

Just near the town of Point Reyes
Very well written doco

What a glorious sounding car
I see DTS. I subscribes
Should be noted that particular exhaust sound is not standard. Great video btw
Easily the BEST looking supercar EVER you would tire of that engine sound ( except at the fuel pump )
The angle of the car in the thumbnail looks almost like a cizeta moroder because the rear looks SO long
Bound for glory!
i drove this sucker on the super nintendo (automobili lamborghini challenge), really really fun game for a kid in the mid 90s!
Hyphen's writing is so good
Bravo. So fun. Annnd I need to make more money. haha

That looks like an expensive exhaust. Great sound recording of the engine/exhaust note.
Some details are glossed over, but still a good video!
Nothing sounds like a Diablo. Nothing. Best engine ever made. The last true lamborghini.

what ist the name off that color? It's stunning.
Jason wouldn't make us wait a full minute to get to the video
Omg v12 starter noises make me feel a kinda way
Is that exhaust stock? It looks like it’s trying to mimic Pagani but it predates it so I assume it’s the other way around
I once watched a Diablo jump-start a Testarossa. It was fucking awesome.
