The F-Pace SVR is Jaguar's Answer to the X3M - One Take

  • Опубліковано 20 вер 2024
  • The Jaguar F-Pace is so good at its task that we noted on the press launch two years ago, "driving it back-to-back with the XE Sedan, the F-Pace renders the XE all but useless." And we still mean it! The F-Pace is light by crossover standards, which makes it agile, and in SVR trim, it's got a shotgun of a supercharged V8, which makes it mean.
    Jaguar of North America provided the vehicle, insurance, and a tank of fuel for this review.

    BMW, Audi, and Mercedes have gone through 2 engine designs while Jaguar has been using this 5.0 from 2010 to 2020. They have shoved this motor into pretty much every model except for the new XF. The sound is honestly what carries this engine forward!

      Stop it. Look at the data behind the rankings. The data spread behind JD Power is so small to be pretty close to inconsequential...modern cars from today's manufacturers are incredibly reliable, period. And in some cases the causes for negative feedback are often cultural, not mechanical. For example, some responders get aggravated by small cup holders or small AC buttons, but that data is still recorder as a hit in surveys. One of the reasons JD doesn't offer raw data as readily as it once did is likely because the data spread is so tight, tight enough to just about make the exercise meaningless. Buy what you want, and if you need more info, take the time to look at the data, not just summary lists.

    You complain about the all season tires, but what tires are on this car? On my Mazda 3 I've got Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+, which are all season UHP tires, and the only squeal I heard was when emergency braking. Taking a tight curve that should be driven at 55kph (34 mph) at 115 kph (71 mph) in wet yielded no slip or squeal.

    • @GreenJeep1998
      @GreenJeep1998 5 років тому

      I'm curious too, I've run Firestone Firehawk A/S (V-Rated) and BF Goodrich Comp 2 A/S (Z-Rated) on my Chrysler 200 (V-6, factory 18's, went from 225/50TR 18 to 235/50R18 as well) and I rarely had noise with the BFG's, but do get some from the 'Stones if I'm pushing them. That said, the F-Pace is weighs more than our cars at 4395lbs vs 3600lbs for my 200 and maybe up to 3255lbs for your 3. That weight alone could make a difference, let alone what kind of A/S tires, especially factory tires vs tire store replacements, which may be made as much for a new car price point as they are for anything else.

    • @GreenJeep1998
      @GreenJeep1998 5 років тому

      Rolf Bjorn That is some of what I was trying to get at, though be it poorly.... I included the width since I went wider for lateral grip as well as under acceleration and braking (the O.E.M. rubber should have not been on the V6 cars) and therefore added grip may have helped with the noise abatement. Funny thing about the Firestones I'm running now though, when I researched them, I found that owners of sub 4000lbs cars like us really liked those tires (I like them, work great for me), while guys with the bigger, heavier cars (like the Chrysler LX cars) hated them with a passion. I think that they just may not work as well on heaver cars like they do lighter ones.

    • @rolfbjorn9937
      @rolfbjorn9937 5 років тому

      @@GreenJeep1998 What I meant is that every tire has a load rating. For example, I have 93 XL on my Mazda 3, which is frankly overkill. That means that each tire can take 1433 lbs, which means they could technically be put on a 4000 lbs vehicle and there would be 1700 lbs of extra capacity left.
      If someone puts an all season tire type that is not a HP or UHP type of tire, with a lower load rating and a very high profile, squealing and other performance issues can be expected. And this is an SUV/Crossover type vehicle.

    The Macan Turbo with the Performance Package is underpowered and looks like a dune buggy. Porsche does not offer the warranty that Jaguar does. Plus back country roads the Porsche does not feel as planted and fun to drive. And its slower.
    Heck based on driving dynamics I would take the F Pace S over the Macan Turbo S anyday, anytime. The Macan does not deserve the Porsche label.
