      You could include more acoustic instrumental music - for example at least one symphonic orchestra with a classical piece. It reveals a lot of information that the music you included does not do too well (separation (how a choir would sound is a very good test for that), dynamic, weight/impact of music, realism of different instruments, feeling/echos of the room/hall etc)

It does sound much fuller and more balanced in my opinion, but it also introduces some floor noise, and that is something I will have to work on in the future. Hope you guys enjoy the new setup! Thanks for all of your bother with these reviews and comparisons. I have watched a lot of your video's and I am always impressed. One slight remark about this particular video... it would appear as if you pointed the mics more towards the tweeters of the edifier S3000 Pro, With the Yamaha HS8 they would appear to be pointed more towards the middle between the tweeter and the woofer. Hence, the highs of the Edifier appear clearer to me. Is it just optical illusion, or were the mics positioned slightly higher for the Edifiers? If so, this would not be a truly representative comparison.

    • @masonwilliams1810
      @masonwilliams1810 2 роки тому +4

      The mics were not moved, the yamahas are simply taller speakers than the edifiers hence the difference. I do believe it should be adjusted but that would then be inaccurate because the speakers would be measured with a different mic position every time. Good catch though.

      I don't fully agree. The Edifiers frequency response graph is practically identical to that of the HS8. Edifier has a 'monitor' mode with a falt response curve. This video does not say in which mode the Edifiers were set when this test was conducted. If it was set to dynamic, treble would definitely have been emphasised. If the test was conducted in motor mode, then the Edifier is a clear winner for detail. And detail is what counts when mixing and mastering; to hear those things you would otherwise not hear.

    Edifier sounds really nice here, surprisingly brighter in comparison to H8 on some instances. The metal song was reproduced flatter, felt seemingly less exciting with Yamies. Edifier got bit more busy and coloured over hi mids, I felt could become overhelming - such as in the classic music case. Nevertheless this sweet Edifier remains clear throughout the range, but still Yamaha is more transparent and revealing in my opinion. Very similar punch and transient response in both, at least here in limited comparison. Surprised the Edifier sounded pretty revealing, next to some serious monitor competition!

  • @doug753
    @doug753 Рік тому +1

    Both accurate, Yamaha drab, dull on some tracks, but accurate as possible, lacking it seems low and high end, accurate tho.
    Edifier more expansive, sometimes to shrill, too bright, but accurate. Just voiced different.
    For recording, of course the Yamaha, for listening, prefer the Edifier mostly, not always, but need to watch that tweet on edifier.
    Looking at the graph, its plain the contrast is coming from the more difference between high peak and base, Yamahas have a little less than the edifier.
    Edifier sound more fun for sure, Yamaha's are for work, edifiers for party and listening pleasure.

  • @MandalaOfThe7
    @MandalaOfThe7 2 роки тому +8

    I've owned a pair of the S3000 pro(s) now for over a year. There are a lot of variables to testing these speakers as a few people here have mentioned and although this appears to me to be representing their 'classic' mode (Default) accurately; we have to go over a few things before you decide if you want them or not.
    These speakers sound MANY times better after the break-in period though I did have to run them around 30-40 combined hours to get them there.
    The act of raising the volume from the source has a much smaller impact than raising the volume on the Edifiers' amp. As a matter of fact, once the amplifiers really start to open up it
    can get a little scary. There are additional tonal qualities from the mid-bass that start to shine through and you can always turn the treble down a little to further balance the frequencies.
    I blasted "Supermarine" from the Dunkirk 2017 soundtrack (edifiers set to dynamic) and it was frightening
    Another thing is that you do not want to use these in to large of an environment. I run them mostly in a 9x18' concrete room with a few acoustic panels I can feel the bass a little bit
    in my chest when brass instruments or bass guitars are really popping off at louder volumes and they never distort. I brought them into a larger room and they had to be positioned much
    closer to the wall to fill out the bass detail which isn't so great if you have an apartment or condo.
    Buy a sub if you want powerful bass below 40 hz. I'd suggest SVS for movies. REL for music. Rythmik or Rogersound Labs for both. Run these through a receiver with pre-outs.

    The Edifiers have DSP so you can select between different modes? Dynamic/Classic/Vocal/Monitor
    You don’t say which mode it’s in? I’m guessing Monitor?
    I’ve owned mine for 3 years now and use them for music and movies. Zero problems.
    For that use I just put them in Dynamic. They sound much more lively and airy at the top and still have good bass.
    Mine are on stands. Sitting 3.5 meters away in a 40 square meter room with vaulted ceilings they read 85db at only 60% volume so way powerful enough for most duties.
    I might add an SVS 3000micro sub in the future to release them from driving to frequencies below 80Hz but that would only be icing on the cake. It’s not vital. They already sound good enough.
    I’m European, but live in Asia.
    In EU the price is around 600-700 Euros? Over here the price is just RIDICULOUS at 380 EUROS a pair!!!!
    They are a no brainer at 700 Euros. At 380 they are giving them away!😎
    These are brilliant speakers and much more connectable and multi use than the Yamahas.
    Unless you wan’t the single minded classic studio vibes of the HS8’s then the S3000Pro’s are a much more practical speaker with good build quality and great sound.
    The only annoying thing with the MK1 is that you can’t tell what volume they are at easily when using the remote control as they don’t have a visual display showing the volume level from 1 to 50? You have to turn them down to zero using the remote, then count the blinks on the front LED as you slowly increase volume. I think the MK2 uses an app to control EQ/DSP/volume, so a big improvement in functionality over the MK1.
    If they had a sub out and bass management in the app you might as well forget about KEF LS50II’s. They are 4-500% more expensive without the expensive KEF stands! Edifier might rule the world if they did the decent thing and brought out a MK3 with those added features!
    If I wanted an amazing system today in 2024 for music and 2.1 movies that will blow anything out of the water worth 3000 + Euros I’d go for the S3000PRO MK2’s and also the brand new WIIM Ultra wireless DAC. It has sub out with bass management AND ROOM CORRECTION! Amazing functionality with their app and constant improvements with regular updates. All that for 350 Euros!!!! Add an SVS 1000Pro sub and you have a whole wireless system for around 1600 Euros. You just won’t find better until you start spending multiple thousands.
    Highly recommend.👍

    The Edifier mid-high is too much, harsh, there over where the Yamaha little bit less:-). Maybe the Yamaha closer for original. You use the mic's correction data for measuring? Of course for the difference only it could be works. I downloaded your video and loaded the audio into a DAW and compare the original track and the loudspeakers with a spectrum analizer. You could do it. Use the same part of the music and merge diagrams. Just an idea from me. And we can see the difference, of course at the measuring you measure, the whole chain. (audio intreface, mic, etc.) Big thumb.

      @@DSAUDIOreview OK. You measure the frequence responce with UMIK-1 and record the music with the other SE 8 or Zoom H6. Is it right?
      I think will be good thing compare the recorded audio :-), because it shown how to reflect the loudspeaker , the dinamics, SPL changing,etc.
      Other thing you try the measures with different SPL level. EBU listening level 78dB and lower music listening level and we could see the linearity. And we find out which is the best volume for that speaker. By the way so i know when you add 3dB at 1Khz (EQ) the most of speaker don't increase 3dB exactly. The good studio monitors ATC, PCM, etc. follow the changing well. I write as a side note. I know this is other coffee house.:-). I know it's more works for you. I don't know which one is more accurate, but the bass definitely extends lower on HS8. I got HS8 in the hopes to get that visceral sound in movies and games where you feel the space around you vibrating when I ship flies by, without the need to buy a subwoofer. And it definitely shows in this test. Looking up S3000Pro it's not surprise that it has a woofer that is 1.5" smaller.

    S3000pros tweeter is miles ahead but the woofer just can't compete with the 8 inch for detail. I know the s3000pro can boost the bass, but I doubt it would be as detailed. Looking at the frequency response less than 200 hz, sure the edifier gets low, but its not really sticking to the same distance away from HS8. I guess the DSP, port tuning, voice coil, and diaphragm light weight help s3000pro get close but i still think that isn't enough to enable a 6.5 inch driver to deliver the same bass as an 8 inch. Just like the 4 inch MTM, it gets amazingly low, but its just not the same. Sure, can go "Dynamic" mode and increase the bass boost knob. But I guess that would just be an un-detailed sound, boosted higher. I can't help but wonder what Edifier could do with an 8 or 10 inch driver. Eliminate the need for that deep subwoofer impact. Even better would be a 3 way with a 5 inch. Its been 1.5 years. Hopefully S4000pro isn't too far away. Nothing else can really compete with that tweeter....
