I bought this sub to plug in to my computer. Bought it on sale for 120€ including shipping. Got it home about 2 weeks ago and it has worked great for music, movies, gaming and youtube vids. I used the RCA outputs in the back of the sub to connect my speakers so that I could use the low pass filter in the sub to block the low frequencies from going to my desk speakers and only play those in the subwoofer. Really happy with it so far.

Yes, great point. Can this configuration as you’ve described only be done with active speakers or also with passive speakers?

So does this low pass filter prevent the low frequencies from reaching the satellites? I am not sure cause it is not mentioned anywhere.

@@enchantedgames6589 not sure if it is still important to you but the Low pass filter/crossover does not affect the rca passthrough. The rca passthrough is purely a passthrough allowing full range frequencies to go to the monitors

@@EhoenChoi I’m thinking about buy it or not and this is my question: the crossover function, works with rca in/out or by the sub out of my Edifier r1280ts? Thanks.

      @EhoenChoi 11 місяців тому +4

@@ekkimosi so specificity with the edifier r1280ts, when you use the sub out the speakers will have a built in crossover that will cut lower frequencies so your r1280ts can have more power to the upper range, which is good. Then at the sub you have an independent crossover that you want to set to your liking, listen to people talking, music and movies/shows to see where it gets too muddy and lower from there

Most people set their subwoofer way, way, *WAY* too high -- both in terms of the cutoff frequency and the volume. You should never, ever hear your subwoofer. If you can point to it, and know for sure that some of the sound is definitely coming from it, it's too high.

Just got one of these things and that's a really good tip. I have a soundbar with a sub and i cant tell where its coming from really. But thats all set up itself, never had a separate sub before.

Your overviews can be especially useful because you know what you are talking about. That is why I subscribed a while ago.
My "use case scenario" [how our language is mangled nowadays!] is that I am editing items from a large classical analogue archive to retain for my own personal use before the archive is sold for university use.
I do not gawp at screens to tell me what I am hearing but, rather, use my ears and require bass extension to cope with the frequencies on the LPs/tapes so that as I retain to digital raw I can correct balance and false focus errors made by engineers at live concerts. Even the BBC and EBU chaps occasionally got a few things wrong.
As well as needing bass extension to clearly hear an orchestral big drum as a thwack and the note and not a wet sand bag, it is important to hear bass frequency harmonics from middle and high sounding instruments, especially woodwinds and viola range as these carry the 'flavour' of live ensemble music.
Eventual playing back of rare items as the Grim Reaper gets closer will be on what is called 'high end' equipment currently in storage and some sought after vintage gear will be replaced by more compact full frequency speakers but perhaps powered by the old stuff if what I choose is not self-powered.
Thus, for the specific process at hand it is a case of "enough is as good as a feast" and booming and chuffing would be unhelpful.
Kindly advise when you have time.
    Dr Stephen F Hall

i've got loads of them to control my speakers and bass to the perfect level
adding an amp to the mix also can get some more power out of these , they WILL sound like a high end system , just need to give them a little help
once you've set them up correctly you can shake the >>> neighbors house

Pairs real nice with the MR4's for an audio workstation. Especially when you already have a set of good open back headphones like the Philips SHP 9500/9600.
These days it's better to have many pieces of affordable gear, rather than relying exclusively on monitors or headphones. Just don't cheap out completely, there's still lots of completely 💩 gear out there if you don't know what you're looking for. I don't care how much they try to market Sennheiser/Audio Technica as the "professional's choice", closed back headphones will never compete with large driver open backs for clarity and accuracy, nor will any monitors without expensive/time consuming room treatment.

      look up the R2750db ...
they have a nice look to them and with a small amp you can control properly , they sound Fantastic
loads of bass to them , that doesn't sound muddy , treble is amazingly smooth even at the highest volume
a bit high in the mids , but with a descent amp and some VST plugins to pull it back a bit or turn the rest up , they sound absolutely great
i do use VST plugins to spice up the volume and quality of the setup , just my preference , i like it Thumping Hard 100% volume
then turn up the amp till it Just goes over the top and turn it down a small bit before the crackling starts ;) lol
      always a good tactic
speakers like that need to be at a high level to actually shine through , then turn up the amp to get the most out of them

I read it can be changed by soldering a wire into the relais, I might try that because I play a lot of low volume music.
