SOLAWAVE LED WAND: REVIEW | Should You Buy This Skincare Device?

- There are so many things to be frustrated about with this device...the Solawave LED Wand is definitely doesn't pack very much of a punch.
Using evidence from wider studies on red light LED and it's benefits for the skin, the Solawave Wand is supposedly meant to help stimulate collagen production, lift, firm and tighten skin. Unfortunately I think these claims are a little ambitious, so in this video I go through some of the studies used and why they aren't entirely applicable to this device, and I give you my opinion on whether you should buy it.

I don't think any at home devices will ever be as good as professional medical products. But $149 for one device that can be used for years vs $149+ for one treatment at a clinic is a big selling point!
amen 😀 what made me try this product was the fact that the brand is so up front about the fact that it won't work for everyone.. i'm so skeptical of all the stuff on social media but I took them up on the offer of "try it and if you dont love it, return it for a full refund" I felt like that was very genuine, and sure enough, I saw results very quickly. Obviously I still get my facials + heavy duty microcurrent treatments from time to time but this gives me a way to take care of my skin in between appointments and I keep getting compliments.
that’s true but solawaves are notorious for breaking after mere months, they are pretty much irreparable and a lot of people had trouble getting them to respect the warranty
@@linareich3435 yeah, it's hard because so many have different experiences. I've had mine for about 2 years and it's still going strong. I'm sorry others have had worse experiences.

The proof of the pudding is in the eating. After only five days of use I have noticed a huge difference in the reduction of redness, an increase in skin tightening and a "healthier" glow with this device. Unlike a medical grade item, this is effectively a "spot treatment" solution, which is dragged over the skin on numerous occasions. You mention that microcurrent doesn't have studies to back up its efficacy, but you fail to address those carried out at the University of Washington in 1982 and 1999 respectively. These suggest that ATP levels can be increased by up to 500% on tissue treated with microcurrent, that microcurrent led to a 45% increase in the number of elastin fibres in the dermis, in addition to increasing their length and boosting collagen thickness in connective tissues by 10%. I am not a "Vogue" editor or connected in any way to the manufacturers of this product. I am merely someone who purchased it for a blemish-related issue. However, I personally find any review which has clearly not tried the product with which it is concerned "disingenuous". Would you review an album on the basis of the personnel involved in the recording without having listened to it? Of course not. Surely, the same holds true here?
Yep it was the same for me and my mum. We both use the Solawave and it has visibly reduced wrinkles and redness on both of us and we enjoy super glowy, plump skin. I never would expect a device this small to replicate medical-grade stuff, or even the higher end at-home masks… but it does the trick if you don’t have access to more expensive LED masks or a aesthetician treatments.

Just another side note thought, yes manufacturers want to make money, but so do clinical professionals, there are some bad products but there are also some good products, consumers need to do their research on products, the effects based on real consumer reviews that have actually used the products, but also consider if they require more intense treatment or if minimal at home treatment done properly and with a good device it enough for what they are striving to achieve. Life style, diet, and genetics also play a big role in results. Food for thought, I feel $149 is not a great loss or a great risk especially if the device delivers even 40% effectiveness. And because red light is relatively safe, it won't hurt to try it for yourself, it's better than spending countless visits to the salon and going broke.....hello!!
Thank you so much for your honest look at something that these industries are always doing! The beauty industry is a multi-billion dollar industry selling snake oil for their own benefits. I was looking into these items at one time and was wondering how this could even work when it is not medical grade. Again thank you for pointing that out. It's sad that we as consumers fall for the lies that these companies can claim and waste our hard-earned money on things that truly don't work, and they know it. Please keep doing what you're doing so that we can be more informed
I bought the new Solawave, which has seven LED lights instead on five. This one seems to be working after only three weeks. My “elevens” are almost gone, and my forehead wrinkles are less deep.

How about lip lines on the side? I have 11's but too deep I think for this to help. Were you younger? I'm 64
@@deb9806 I just turned 69. But nothing has worked for my upper lip lines. Not even four CO2 laser treatments. And I just absorbed fillers. Red light DID work for my chin and side lip lines, but not my naso-labial folds!
@@vetsai8199 Yes, I think that's just surgery. I have been using Curology a few years but seem to have stopped improving, just feeling I need something else. I think losing weight although a good thing,didn't help either. Your face loses fat along with everything else Glad you had some results though

I been using this device since 2021 and let me tell you it’s been a game changer! My skin is literally more tight and firmer. This device makes my face look immaculate. I’m only 26 so maybe that’s why it worked but, it diffidently works !

I think what she misses out on is that this is precisely for home use, it is meant as a supplement to skin care and clinic treatments, smtg we can use every day. Its not meant to replace anything.

Thanks for the advice! I was thinking of purchasing the LED Red light wand, but it wouldn't be worth my money to invest in. I have enough topicals that I have purchased and at some bad results and had to go back to basics.
I purchased this item along with some other products from their skin care line and also though I am not that best at having a set daily routine, I will say I definitely do see a difference when I do use it. It was pricey but I did tell myself if I was going to spend a lot of money on this, then at least try to use it more often. At the moment I’ve gone from using it like maybe once or twice a month to, once or twice a week. I don’t except perfect skin but it definitely cleans up nice when I use it. But that’s just me vs everyone else, I’m not gonna hype it up a lot like everyone else does. I feel like this is just like any other skin care product that either you like and it works for you
I have the omniluxe mask and that definitely makes a difference but i'm not sure about this one...

Hi, love your video, I have this device and literally after more than a year my skin has no improvement 😂 but I keep using it thinking that maybe in a long term, if I keep using it for years it would help my skin to the delay aging, it’s that could be posible? Or definitely it’s a waste of time?

Red light mask use is contraindicated for those who get migraines (the light in your eyes can trigger). Maybe this would be a way to still get some benefits without the risk??

I get migraines, I just keep my eyes closed. It hasn't triggered migraines so far.
If I could find professional treatments for $149.00, I’d jump on it. However, there was a not anywhere.
I bought mine on sale and was very skeptical. But I have actually been really surprised at how well it’s worked. I thought it was a gimmick but for me, it’s made my face look incredible. I also pair with with serums, night creams and my moisturiser but it’s been brilliant. I’ve been using it for a month. Definitely worth it from my point of view. But again, these are my personal results. I’m 44 and don’t have terrible skin. Maybe that’s why? 🤷🏼♀️ Who can say.
I used mine and it was pricking me and burning - is this normal ? I used mineral oil on my skin to get it nice and hydrated. The wand heated up fast and it felt like little needles poking me as I glided it on my skin 🥺
@@paulaalmeidareastephens3317 Mine doesn’t do that so I’m not sure. I use serums and moisturisers to help it out. Is your skin really sensitive?
Mine heats up the longer I use it so I never use it longer than 5 mins max. I also have another light device that has blue and green light so I alternate devices. Both are okay on my skin.
I do notice that if I’ve used a scrub, my skin is a lot more sensitive to the wand. I try and be gentle on those days.

You did your review based on what you’ve researched, but have you actually tried it and done side to side comparisons? As a dermatologist, wouldn’t you try it out and let us know if it worked for you?
I have personally used the device. But I think the improvements are more related to consistency with certain routines.
Can I use a different serum than the one they suggest? I mean I have a great acid hyaluronic one!
You can use any serum you want. I like to use my collagen serum & hyaluronic acid (either mixing or switching)! You don’t have to stick with the one they suggest, they even say in the instructions you can use any serum you would like. I would think (in my personal opinion) that whatever serum works best for you skin, use that 🙏

THANK YOU - YES! I'd rather have heard her compare the SolaWave to other AT HOME products. Frankly, I can't imagine anybody thinking an 'at-home' product could compete with a 'medical grade' product.
What we need is advice about - or a comparison between - two LIKE products that can be used at home.

I noticed you mentioned more than once about medical grade and being disingenuous to consumers, however, the device you are reviewing clearly advertises as 'home use' not being compared to salon/medical grade, further the amount of wavelengths are disclosed in the packaging, it's FDA cleared for safe use not product medical grade, and the price is more than fair for results that we can expect to take time with consistent use, just as a professional treatment takes time. Often consumers also wish to start out with a more mile treatment to test if their skin is sensitive or if adverse effects pose after use. I also have a bit of a problem with your review and you have not used the product or shown any case studies of others using it over time and reporting to you. The instructions on the device state that it may take time to see results due to the grade of the light, of which by the way is in the 600 range which does meet the minimum to reach lower skin levels. I find your review to be inconclusive. Plus everyone is different, where the device may work on one individual but not so much on another because the level of treatment may vary with results one is seeking. Not enough research done for me to consider your review.
That was exactly my thinking. Without actually trying the product and giving updated side to side comparisons, how is this really helpful to us?
You won't see results unless you supplement this wand with a healthier/balanced diet, sufficient sleep, exercise. If none of those are on point and you use this as a magic wand then it'll barely work. You need to use it with the activating serum and moisturizers
