Best of best when it comes to the 3 Series BMW and it doesn’t need to be the M3 either, any of the 6 cylinder Coupes or cabriolets in the M Sport guise of course 🔥
Mat, my established local Garage wouldn't even attempt this! I think we all know you've moved past the 'amateur mechanic' stage. Fantastic content and for me, fun-educational too. Keep this up and I think we going to see an automotive megastar on TV soon.
Something that I thoroughly appreciate is that Mat does a different ad read every video and doesn't just cut away to the same one over and over. Another great vid as always!👌
Incredible work Mat, your knowledge and confidence is just through the roof! I haven't commented for a while but you're quite an inspiration and you should be so proud of what you have achieved. It's such a great experience for me to see how far you've come and how much you've grown from the start. Hell, I wasn't even sure if I liked your style at the beginning and now I love just seeing a new video pop up. Thank you for sharing your journey.
I proper LOL'd when the bonnet hit you on the head 😂😂😂 my 5 series did the same to me. Really admire you for taking those rod bearings out. That two post lift is every man's dream setup 👌🏻 I live really close to Mallory.
Fellow M3 Owner - I've just recently done the rear axle carrier panel re-enforcement along with a complete re-bush, having already done the rod bearings and vanos rebuild (along with a cooling system refresh). Bringing back the memories! The RACP is a monster job, look forward to the rest of this series. Great job!
Agreed. I used to have a Lsb e46 m3. Been missing it lately. I found a great deal on a e92 m3 and jumped on it. Currently waiting on the rod bearings so I can actually drive it
What do people even mean by keeping it OEM. Not just you, but loads of people say it. Matt even says OEM+. OEM means original equipment manufacturer for the car, i.e Bosch or Mahle etc. Let’s keep it Bosch or Bosch+ 🤷🏻♂️
@@rarswlew6070 OEM in like the exterior design or interior parts , under the hood or suspensions etc . go for what is worth . Like i modified and retrofitted a lot of parts on my car ,but every bumper ,interior seats , headliner etc are all OEM
Been watching your vids from near the beginning; its insane how much your technical skills have come along. Just watching you pull these bits apart terrifies me. FULL SEND. And 100% behind you keeping it OEM.
Mat is a true inspiration for us driveway mechanics. I’m self taught as well and refuse to do some big jobs but Mat makes it look easy enough to bring about some bravery in me. Looking forward to see how this turns out. Been here since the S5
Hi Mat, a lot of positive energy in your video! Thank you so much for saving this baby! I am the happy owner of an early e46 M3. As far as my knowledge goes, on the old engine type you can or even must reuse the bolts. You started with the front end, however since this is a track car I’d be more concerned about the back end since the subframemountingpoints tend to crack with track use. This is a very common failure on the e46 M3. So remove the subframe and reinforce the points (there are a lot of kits for this available online). I am going to follow you from now on. Great video! Hope my advice is helpful!
Make sure you replace the oil pump whilst your in the engine and have access. It's good practice or you will kick urself down the line, especially when you already have the old one removed 👍🏻
Matt don't put yourself down, you investigate the issue and pass on the good information you have learned. That's how we all learn, and so far there isn't much wrong with what you are doing at all. Watching loads of these videos I am surprised at the amount of technical stuff you have taken on, and worked it all out......top marks👍
Seeing you stripping and reassembling the car makes me feel like i can do it as well even with zero experience. You make everything look so simple mate🪄✨
Great video again Mat and I really enjoyed hearing about how it all works, makes it easier to understand the reason for doing particular work. Look forward to the next one
I’m a fellow e46 m3 owner and have been for many many years, recently done my rack changed to a purple tag rack, whole new tie rod assembly, new steering coupler an swivel joint and other various things mainly bushes, possibly the bigges improvement per £ I have ever done. Well done on tackling the bearings yourself, I’m going to do mine next year basically next on the list and deliberating over what bearings and bolts, I’m swaying towards standard stuff all round.
Is there anything you can't do. Your skills are mental mate. To have the confidence to take a job on like that is admirable. Keep up the good work. Best channel on you tube.
I don’t know how you do this Matt. I really enjoy watching your videos but seeing you literally strip a car is soo time consuming & I could never do that.. Much Respect & keep it up 🔥
Great video Mat. Very entertaining to see the lay person attempt master technician work and do the big jobs like these. Also the commentary to the video is excellent and entertaining to watch. Keep the great stuff coming. 👍
Great effort and skills on all your videos! As a qualified mechanic and garage owner for many years I can tell you pick things up well working on cars and do a proper job. The amount of work I see from many people that also do this for a living is shocking. Also the work I see from most of the UA-cam mechanics on here makes me cringe and is actually quite scary that they are allowed to do it, you’re one of few that I’d actually be happy to employ.
Since 2001 I’ve had this car in silver as a toy car and it’s always been my dream car.. when I saw 19minutes as the length of the video I was urging to sit down at 2am after an 18 hour shift and at least enjoy this video 😍 mat your amazing at what you do keep it going my bro!
keep these videos coming. I really like it when we see more details of the job, not just fast forward to the finished product. And nice with longer videos also :) keep up the good work Mat
Mate, increasing talent and ability aside…you’re still so genuine and true to yourself. For that sir I’ll keep coming back, your videos and projects are top notch. 👌🏻
We like a project. Don't forget to fit new valve stem oil seals if you want to avoid a smoker. Also all gaskets, as BMW's love to weep. Oh, and the timing chains stretch on high milers.
This E46 is the reason I subscribed as it was the 1st vid that came up as random of MA, but also more than likely to do with algorithms as I’m a E46 owner….., rod bearings ain’t just an it’s with the E46, also the E9X M3, or maybe just any ‘M’ car, and I’m gonna love watching this build 👍🏻
Loving this project already We are with you all the way as you learn new things as do we There is still a massive BMW community out there so i am pretty confident that you will get plenty advice and lots of new subscribers
So excited to see this rebuild come along!! This is deffo the best car you have by far Matt!! Plus as others have said I think your mechanical skills have come a long way and I applaud you for getting stuck in and giving it a go - I think its the best way to learn anyway!! Matt you are a legend!!
Loved watching this! I'm still toying with the idea of buying an E46 M3 but I've got the mechanical skills of a cucumber. So many things can and do go wrong
Huge props for getting in and giving it a go man! As you say, get this wrong and you say goodbye to the engine with a rod wanting to make an appearance through the block lol. Fingers crossed all the way!
A fantastic tool, if you have not already bought one, is an induction heater. This aids the removal of badly rusted and near seized bolts avoiding the dreaded sheared bolts. Chinese ones are dirt cheap but one I can recommend is the Mini doctor Venom, it heats the bolts or nuts to glowing red in seconds and they come off with ease. Cheers
Love your precious crash builds and mods, but tackling this beemer is a whole new respect level mate, its like seeing the inner Edd China in you, your confidence and drive is epic. Restoration is much harder than upgrading. Mite want to think about reinforcing cap merch!!!. 👍💙🏴
Great content! But for me as a car mechanic i would clean the aircon compressor pouli, because this can damage the belt fairly quickly. But for the rest great work man, love seeing more !
Did the bearings on my Clio R27, same ,watched lots of video, Redline engine build lube and ARP bolts - stopped my little knock - job done.. but yeh its really nerve racking doing your first big boy engine stuff. Thou just nuts and bolts - good on ya Mat
My dream car, and the colour is absolutely beautiful! My uncle had an early E46 M3 from new, and my grandad a 330ci. The M3 got traded in after a few years, but 20 years later 330ci is mine! It's bone stock and absolutely pristine 👌
The e46 is my dream car now its time to find out how good it actually is after the build/ restoration
They are a proper driving treat. Just require a lot of maintenance and money 💰
Best of best when it comes to the 3 Series BMW and it doesn’t need to be the M3 either, any of the 6 cylinder Coupes or cabriolets in the M Sport guise of course 🔥
E46 best chassis bmw built on my 3rd one, hoping to buy an m3 in a couple of years.
It's insane to see the level you are now at. Literally stripping and rebuilding cars. Skills #selftaught

You are past the amateur stage i agree
Most garages are lazy cunts and only bring the easy jobs in
@@TheClassifiedMan and charge people the price of a major job

The problem is he doesnt keep his cars forever.
@@sy7692 I know , I'm watching his videos since the S5 . But lets hope the future owner will take a good care of the car like Mat does !

I cant belive how far you've come remember started watching your chanel from the blue wrapped audi s5 to this now congratulations
Great content Mat, as always. You've come so far since I first subscribed, yet you remain so natural and humble. Thanks!
MA has upped his mechanical skills, brave for doing the rod bearings DIY. Respect 👊🏽

Matt I was behind you in a queue the other day at ESSO! Loved seeing the M4 and the M140i in person. Had to take a picture of them 😂
🤯Watching you take that engine apart blows my mind and you’ve still got to put it all back together!

Got to give you full respect Mat as nothing seems to phase you and you get stuck in and give anything a go.
Dude you’ve come so far from your early videos, your skills are next level now doing massive jobs like that! Fair play mate. Loving all these cars!
I'VE GOT TO SAY THE bmw M40I(M STYLE) Hatch back is one of the best projects you've done so far.You sir are a true gent.

How can people possibly dislike this video?! Madness. Great work Mat!
Fair Play Mat. You're certainly putting that Unit of yours to good use. You've become quite the Mechanic. Top job so far!

I love how much work you get through in fairly short videos mate, well good stuff👌🏻
This build will be epic. Can’t wait to see interior repair….
11:20 doing it right matt, was gonna tell you about that little o-ring. Mine failed and ended leaking oil into my clutch and blew it.

Best video you’ve ever done! You should powder coat the subframe too and zinc dip the bolts
You're fearless Mat. Good luck getting to the finish line safely
I enjoy your videos so much I find myself coming onto UA-cam only looking for your uploads. Since the Audi TT days!
Fair play to you Matt, Its good to see you doing some old fashioned mechanical work and OEM restoration. Cant wait to see how it turns out.

loving the video. can't wait to see this car fully restored to OEM spec. It will be/is a true classic.
