It’s mad coming back to watch all the old builds after watching the newer ones cos it’s only Mat, his mates aren’t there or his dad so he’s doing everything on his own and smashing it aswell👌🏼
I love the fact you're always willing to give things a try. Sometimes the final look of some of your builds can be a bit crazy, but there's no denying you work hard to make things happen. You should be proud of what you've achieved so far
You’re bringing a legend back to life and, although not anywhere near completion, it’s starting to take on that exclusive “Matt Armstrong Styling”. This has to be one of my favourites, if not my favourite rebuild you’ve undertaken on the channel. This is the pinnacle of “old school” motoring and this project deserves the attention to detail you are putting in. An incredible build Matt. I hope that you get a huge amount of satisfaction making this project evolve. Phenomenal content. Thank you buddy 👍🏼
Wow you've been crazy busy! Incredible what you can achieve when you just get stuck in, the welding looks really good I'm seriously impressed with this video👍🏻 Remember folks... Where possible always fit brand new second hand parts 😂
Do the rear end properly, new bushes all over, diff service and drive shafts bearings etc, so much easier when you have it out like you have now. Blast and coat the subframe and arms too
Can’t help but love your enthusiasm and watching your face light up every time new parts are fitted ! Keep the great work up as it’s a daily or weekly fix for me watching you go through every process of restoring such a classic and iconic car…. Love it 👍🏼
By far my favourite UA-cam channel and the only one that I watch all the time. You have a natural ability to keep everyone interested when all other car channels have failed. Top work
Lookin good Mat! If you want to clean up the storage tray and center console “soft touch” areas - soak them in hot water and hit them up with a scotch brite pad or super fine steel wool. I spray painted mine with SEM trim black but others have had luck just using trim restorer. The soft touch gets all knocked up over the years. This makes it all look fresh n clean.
You really need to do the internal boot floor brace as well as the plates else you will have the same problem again eventually, check out the SME internal boot brace.
Don't use poly bushings for the rear subframe. You will not gain anything, it will only make the sounds and vibrations from the drive drain to travel inside. You'll start to hear the typical M specific sounds (M-clunk, thud, etc) even more. Strongly recommend to use OEM bushings!
It’s amazing how much you do in one vid. Hardly anyone actually does this much and they drag it out over multiple videos. Makes it so much better to watch. Thank you 🙏
You are doing better work on your cars than most shops do in Germany. If I ever get hands on a m3 like yours I'm gonna contact you to rebuild it for me. Amazing work mate.
You are becoming a master mechanic Mat. Appreciate your guts to tackle any job that needs to be done. Good job I really enjoy following you and Hannah.
Dear god your collection is getting so cool. Found you doing research back in the S5 days. The RS5 stalking the M3 was such a sick shot cutting right to the Lambo in the background.
Great restoration build so far, love your enthusiasm, plus your prepared to tackle almost anything. I will admit some of your builds have been a little outlandish for my taste, as I’m of a certain age !!! But I have enjoyed watching every video you’ve posted, keep it up.
Having just bought my first E46 three weeks ago, I am now terrified of what issues might be lurking underneath it. Love your enthusiasm though mate, cracking video
I find myself clicking the thumbs up at the start of your video's now. You are doing this lovely car proud with your efforts Mat. Keep up the fantastic work and i cannot wait for the next installment.
I have to apologise to you Mat, as I did laugh when the fuel line spat fuel over you then you come back to the camera looking rather wet lol, then your infamous saying of “brand new second hand parts” another great video, keep em coming mate. Brilliant.
Hey man I subscribed because of this project, I have the exact same car, yours has had a rough life. Your attention to detail is excellent and the care you are giving this legend is perfect. Keep it going brother.
Love the channel, don’t normal leave comments but . Thought this might help if you read it Matt. BMW key don’t have battery’s. The key recharges in the ignition. Great idea from BMW. Only new this once id read the owners manual. Says…. Swap keys for long journeys to your spare key to make sure the spare key also gets charged. Hope this helps 👍
“Lightning Rebuilds” should be your rebranded channel name Mat. OMG the speed your getting parts in, fitted and the standard of the completed work is awesome. One thing, although costly, have you looked in to dry ice blasting for that complete restoration look on your cars?
Great video, love it... one of my dream cars..i'm pretty also annoyed that the parts have not arrived. Cant wait for the next video. Don't make us wait too long please.
Nice job but you should also fix the two plugs that are under the rear carpet on each side. The plugs come loose and water finds its way into the cabin/carpet.
What a wonderful job you are doing on that car. So thorough and so well done, I'm pleased as punch for you. Such a lovely car and so much better for your attention to it!
Brilliant work Mat, the best generation of M3. Boot floor is always a surprising job as its not until you take off the underseal the cracks begin to reveal! In regards to your door locks, it might also be the GM5 module that is hidden behind the glove box, usual sign is that you can't lock/unlock doors remotely. Great work on the rod bearings, did you also tackle the Vanos, another common issue on E46's?
hi Mat are my favorite UA-camr who brings cars back to life and gives them second chance i bought for my lass BMW 120D 2005 and did plenty already been previously smashed but not recorded i love cars sadly due my health i am very limited to do much on them so then i feel down with my anxiety i watch your videos again and again especially BMW 120D thanks
I'm a fan of this color BMW! Also kinda love it when I see a scorpion exhaust box paitently waiting!! @mat your facial expressions are the best when doing a revv test after new exhaust fitment lol.
Had the same issue with door actuator on mine was one of the most fidley jobs ever really enjoying this series reminds me of my project couple years ago keep it up mat 🙌🏼
I had the same problem with my key. But if you have changed the battery you do need to reprogram the key to the car! It will still work without changing the actuator
Should properly strip that subframe and powder coat it and replace all bushes mate, it’s far easier to do everything at same time as you have done so much work to remove all the components to do the welding. Also rub the underside of the car and fresh stone chip and paint too. It’s worth it
Can’t wait for the next video , you’ll enjoy the black leather interior , I don’t know why original buyers chose grey or light interior for the love of cars!
I have spent the last week or so goin through the entire back log of your videos very entertaining and inspired me to get on my drive and do up my French peugeot 307cc thanks mat
Mat your a straight up legend, just like you wrap some of your cars instead of painting, could you reupholster the seats so we get a flavour of that type work, cheers!!! Great channel!!
I'm really enjoying this build, & its certainly taking you out of your comfort zone. However, with your positive outlook, I know you'll rise to the challenge & get the E46 M3 looking mint & performing as it should. Keep up the good work!👍🔥
Mat your a straight up legend for bringing this M3 back to life.
??
Loving this restoration style build. Nice to see the channel going different places 👍
Wholeheartedly agree, loving seeing some OEM restauration going on!
Totally agree. Every car enthousiast loves an oem legend rebuild.
This is the best format for such a "restoration-type" videos: a visible result can be seen in each vlog. Keep it up, Mat!
More to come!
the laguna sec blue hits different on the E46 M3 love it BMW nailed it with this colour
Ikr 💯
I feel like this is the best car you've done so far!
Totally agree
Golf r the best tbh
C63 was siccccck...
It’s mad coming back to watch all the old builds after watching the newer ones cos it’s only Mat, his mates aren’t there or his dad so he’s doing everything on his own and smashing it aswell👌🏼

You have done some fantastic projects. But I'm straight up loving this E46 M3 restoration. You are a legend
Love mats videos brings a smile on my face when he uploads keep going mate
The editing on this vid is sick! The music matching the transitions etc just shows how much time you put into your vids!!
thanks mate! takes longer to edit than it actually does to do the work haha
@@MatArmstrongbmx you need to get an editor! Yours is amazing but probably make things a lot easier
@@MatArmstrongbmx I can be your editor🤓
@@jamieh5222 I’ve tried but never had any luck 🙌
Wow you've been crazy busy! Incredible what you can achieve when you just get stuck in, the welding looks really good I'm seriously impressed with this video👍🏻 Remember folks... Where possible always fit brand new second hand parts 😂

It is so satisfying to watch you rebuild the M3. I cannot wait for this one to be finished 👏🏼
Love the enthusiasm even when things look bad . Lesson for us all
By far my favourite UA-cam channel and the only one that I watch all the time. You have a natural ability to keep everyone interested when all other car channels have failed. Top work
Had my e46 m3 for 13 years and loving this vid. Many familiar issues! But please don’t change the OEM exhaust, it’s all about the raaasp!!! :)

I’m really looking forward to driving it!
You are becoming a master mechanic Mat. Appreciate your guts to tackle any job that needs to be done. Good job I really enjoy following you and Hannah.
Honestly mate, can't get enough of your videos. You are an inspiration and your positivity should be prescribed to the whole country!
Dear god your collection is getting so cool. Found you doing research back in the S5 days. The RS5 stalking the M3 was such a sick shot cutting right to the Lambo in the background.
I love all of the cars you’ve done and are currently doing but this is by far my favourite … nostalgia !!
Putting the interior back and cleaning it up was so freaking satisfying!! Keep at it Mat!!!
Great restoration build so far, love your enthusiasm, plus your prepared to tackle almost anything. I will admit some of your builds have been a little outlandish for my taste, as I’m of a certain age !!! But I have enjoyed watching every video you’ve posted, keep it up.
Pleased to see you growing with your channel, love the way you take care in what your doing and putting original parts on...
Matt, it's amazing how far you became to be a great mechanic. I tip my hat for you!!
Loving this! Those floor cracks were proper scary - knew about this problem but had never actually seen how bad it is!!
Mats videos are always a good one 💯
Having just bought my first E46 three weeks ago, I am now terrified of what issues might be lurking underneath it. Love your enthusiasm though mate, cracking video

Another great video Mat. I can relate to the satisfactory look when the bonnet open. All the small things add up
Really liking this different direction you have gone with this build. Look forward to seeing it out on the road.
Nice job but you should also fix the two plugs that are under the rear carpet on each side. The plugs come loose and water finds its way into the cabin/carpet.
Been watching since the S5 and loving al of the projects you’ve done so far, but this one is my favorite up till now. Keep up the great content!
Always enjoy your videos from the 1st time I came across your channel, it has me hooked
This is my dream car and watching mat restore it is the best thing ever
What a wonderful job you are doing on that car. So thorough and so well done, I'm pleased as punch for you. Such a lovely car and so much better for your attention to it!
Great job. Had previously gone off my dream of an e46 M3 but you make it look do-able without an open cheque book.
Song at 7:37 ? I remember viewing it on Audi USA's windshield wiper demonstration on UA-cam and just asking out of curosity.

The amount of work and effort your putting in for our entertainment is amazing mat,you really do deserve every bit of success that comes your way.
Loving the M3 content Matt, nice to see you resue the E46 and bring it back to life and looking decent.
Great work Matt. Car is a must save, future/current classic. Wish I could do something like that myself.
I love the fact you never go over 50 in you videos. In the UK 🇬🇧 we send it. Awesome build well done 👍💯🔥
Adding the black interior accents make this car look so much better. That two tone look is incredible.
brilliant build Mat, love the fact you just go for it and get the job done.
One of the best vids so far! Also loving the new music at the start
It’s always amazing how fast you get your cars fixed and running, keep it up Mat!! Awesome content
These types of videos are just as satisfying as the big kits, wings and wheels vids 👍🏻
Yes Matt! Loving your work. Always look forward to catching up with your builds on a Tuesday eve! 💪🙌

"Nice from Far, Far from Nice" Matey. This is going to be an epic build !
My god your car collection is sick!!
Can’t wait for the next video , you’ll enjoy the black leather interior , I don’t know why original buyers chose grey or light interior for the love of cars!
Mint video as always Mat, and tons of progress too! Great idea to keep it OEM and looking forward to the next video.

Loving the M3 restoration content Matt - Great Work!
Get in! Love this one brother. Hope the parts rock up soon ❤️
Brilliant Matt can wait to see it done
Getting there. Nice one. Just gonna look a bit odd with parts of the dashboard and console still being grey.
This is amazing mate! Keep up the great work!!
I'm really enjoying this build, & its certainly taking you out of your comfort zone. However, with your positive outlook, I know you'll rise to the challenge & get the E46 M3 looking mint & performing as it should. Keep up the good work!👍🔥
I had a whole new boot floor from BM when i had my E46. Lucky i bought before the 10 year warranty came up so saved alot of money.
Hardest woking UA-camr in the business!
Consistently bringing the best content by far!
Keep it up bro - we behind you 100%
Love that you bringing this beautiful M3 back to life especially because this is also one of my dream cars😌
Great job Mat, the HK door speakers is a 3 ohms setup which is different from the standard BMW stereo door speakers 👍
