BlackBerry needs 2 phones: a 7" Passport and a 7" Touch. After that it's all about performance, functions and coolness. I warned the VP in 2007 that their phones were too small and his response was, "dont let Balsillie hear you say that". Gee I'm sorry - why would you want to listen to the consumer.

If they could get a Blackberry Passport SE 2 with BB OS X2 with Android runtime that can run Android apps that would be ideal...best OS and gestures for BB10. And then their was an issue with Android then saying they could not make it work on a square screen well Unihertz does it so guess it works now. Yeah or also a Classic. I think you hit the nail about nostalgia. However, you also pointed in one of your older reviews, BlackBerry and TCL didn't just go on a "nostalgia trip". It's not like they just decided to resurrect the form factor with no innovation, they actually brought forward some serious tinkering on the interactions that is subtle. For example, the convenience key, the re-imagining of Hub, or the universal shortcut key. All tried and true stuffs that were refined a step further without being gimmicky.
However, a lot of these "product critics" (I doubt they actually qualify to be reviewers) has this nasty tendency to compare a BlackBerry to a more popular brand and then it devolves from a review of a BlackBerry device into why you should buy a "seo algorithm popular" device instead.
In that respect I truly appreciate your full reviews on the keyONE and Key2 because you cut through the noise and explain properly to who this phone is good for and not.
Also, from BlackBerry Help Twitter Twitter account, they are not discounting an effort to find another partner, so if anything, it's a good indicator that they're at least serious in listening to offers to be their partner.

    • @jvtechtea

@@jvtechtea it is only fair. You gave it a chance, you mentioned where, what, why, who is it good for, and the shortcomings with no punches held back. It's something I appreciate your videos in general, as compared to most other product critics who only read the spec sheets without actually stopping to really use the products that they were evaluating. Worse are the product reviewers who readily shut it down without examining the device, and then promoting UA-cam-"approved" algorithm to chase the money and views.

Let’s be real, in the USA if it isn’t a Samsung or an iPhone it’s damn near irrelevant. Ask anyone to pull their phone out their pocket and 90% of the times it’s one of those 2. In the U.S. nyc - never had an iPhone or Samsung went from Blackberry to LG5 (while also using my BB Passport SE). Now am using LG8 after lots of research and features - never been an iPhone fan though have MacBook only apple product I like - also don't like getting locked into an ecosystem. As a consumer I don't think that's a good thing. And I find many people because most especially they are locked into an Apple ecosystem will not try other things because everything is so synced and related. I always would say to friends even in the early days of market when Blackberry was going through changes that competition is always good for us consumers when I was still rocking my BB Passport SE. And well it worked for me. I still always found it odd that there were many features on BB 10 that did not exist on Android and Apple and why people got them. Honestly and also the whole app issue back in the day such as App Gap and also with window phones. Honestly, how many apps do most folks ACTUALLY use on a daily basis that are absolutely necessary that cannot be accessed via the web or even from the web make a home icon?
Long reply but yeah you are right in the U.S. it is usually iPhone or Samsung even when I have my LG8 people wonder what is it. Still it is just another slab but for me I like some of the features it has a few I don't esp AI photo arrrgh that tags photos for you and puts them in a access folder. But I digress. I still have great hope for BB with hard ware. Still plan to get me another BB Passport SE as my keyboard began not behaving well with some keys not working right or at all.

TCL actually did want to continue making "key" series. However, BlackBerry midcontract upped their royalty fee as a result from unforseen update issues. BlackBerry claimed they needed more money to make the nessisary updates. TCL couldn't take on that cost since BlackBerry phones are already considered overpriced. TCL counter offered saying they want to licence JUST the pkb and brand it under their "palm" brand. I'm very cool with that move because I just want a good pkb android phone with good specs for a good price.

There's lots of companies that use to make phone's, and if BlackBerry partners up with them, I'm sure they could both get back in the game and do good stuff! You have Phillips, sharp, Toshiba, Panasonic, sanyo just to name a few. And there is HTC! Even tho they have faded away. They need to be consistent and recreate the brand all over. Even RIM would be good if they restarted.

I have been using BlackBerry phones since their first model hit the market. I have noticed over the years that the people who enjoy BlackBerrys understand they are designed for productivity. Most people use their phones for entertainment, streaming video, social media or texting. If you use your phone for business and you take the time to learn the capabilities of the BlackBerry you will be hooked just as I was. I have been using a Priv for several years and it was one of the best phones I have ever owned. It is at the end of its life and I have to move on. I was hoping a new BlackBerry would hit the market before I made this change but it looks like it may be a while before that happens. I have decided to give the Titan a try. Not a BlackBerry but adding the Hub and getting used to a new keyboard may just hold me over until the next BlackBerry arrives. First time viewer,, enjoyed your video.

Their biggest mistake was sacrificing screen real-estate for the up-front keyboard. The Priv was the way to go, it's just that they were there before the actual market! People would react entirely different to a Priv2 in now rather than 5 years ago, as long as they partner up with Swiftkey or something and ditch their own on-screen keyboard.

I loved my Blackberry Curves and Bold. But when they went to the Storm, and then losing the keyboard line up in their new phones, I started looking at what other brands had going. I found and bought the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and then the Note 3. I checked at Verizon for Blackberry a couple times after the Note 2, but it seemed to be going under fast enough that Verizon stopped carrying them at our local store. I never even heard about them changing from Java platform to Android.

Surprisingly iPhone is what really satisfied people in premium segment at that time. Touch big display, solid performance, premium feel. Surly it would be better that they kept making phones that they have total control over ground up. If they have left the mobile space, then why would anyone want them over another company offering the same products. Or have phones and Android/iOS become secure enough..... The KeyONE has suited me and my mobile uses perfectly the past few years and I was *just* starting to think about replacing it and was looking to see if there'd been any announcements late last month (most folks just don't follow smart-mobile tech day-to-day or even quarter-to-quarter) to start sussing out what would replace it. That's when I found the announcement. Looks like I'm leaning toward LG now, but it's a bummer BB never caught on. The market is really strange these days.

One handed typing is the most ergonomic experience in using smartphone. Blackberry knew that. Two handed? Get a hybrid tablet-PC instead. What happened? Multimedia experience combining the full potential use of camera sensors is the new must-have selling point which utilizes full screen real estate as the norm. The Blackberry just doesn't have that image. Blackberry is about typing experience. Typing is the selling point of Blackberry.
