Unihertz Titan Hands-On: Not just a BlackBerry knockoff

Поділитися
Вставка
  • Опубліковано 18 сер 2024
  • This Shanghai outfit is back, pitching a new phone that couldn’t be ANY more different than the Jelly. This is the Titan, a full-blown QWERTY keyboard behemoth, with a square screen and a 6,000mAh battery. The absurdity doesn’t end there, either. The keyboard is touch-sensitive, so it can work as a trackpad of sorts. There’s a 4.5-inch SQUARE screen upfront. If you managed to get in on the company’s early bird Kickstarter deal, it’s pretty cheap - think around $260. For me at least, the single MOST absurd thing about the Titan is that it SHOULD be awful - but it isn’t. Not completely, anyway.

    Bring back keyboard sliding phones! It would be so so awesome if there was a physical keyboard sliding phone, with an Amoled 1440p screen, at least 90hz, stereo speakers, 3.5mm headphone jack, Snapdragon 855, at least 8gb ram, Android 9 pie, triple cameras in the back... I loved my BB Passport. The square display was amazing. If only there was better Android support (or even Android OS) on it. This kind of fits the bill, though! I live in Alaska, and this would be perfect. It's rugged, and having physical keys are nice in the freezing cold. Another thing, it rains A LOT here. I'd like to see how weatherproof this is. Touchscreens don't work well in the rain at all compared to physical keys, and I wonder how this would hold up.

    Seriously, Engadget? A review of a BlackBerry-like phone made by someone who doesn't like physical keyboards and doesn't even know what the old BlackBerry keyboards were like. Most of this review is basically "Hey guys, this keyboards sucks but maybe I'm not a keyboard guy". Please make a proper review, and let a former BlackBerry fan do it. If we're going to buy this phone is solely because of the qwerty keyboard, that's why a comparison with a Bold 9900 and a Classic would be quite useful.

    This phone tells a lot about Blackberry passport. The BB passport was a great idea too early left behind in order to embrace Android (the snitch built by Google number one privacy offender) and pursue a different design that doesn't say too much. Don't take me wrong I like the Key2 but I love the Passport. Of course another company saw the real potential of BB Passport and tried to capitalize that advantage: unique, very effective and classic design with excellent physical keyboard. I really miss BB Passport and its OS. These days we must accept the idea to have our phone running on the SPY Android and give privacy and security away, privacy and security that were the main goal of BB.

    great phone. They should now capitalise on having met the blackberry passport android unmet market and maybe make it thinner, lighter . It feels very solid and a joy when listening to music while reading the kindle. There is an unmet market for this kind of phone and Unihertz are now posotioned to compete in a market where there are very few competing keyboard phone-tablet . The criticisms here are not valid. If blackberry ignore their audience and fail to bring out a passport androis then unihertz should capitalise. 5G , 1 tb storage, integrated video projector higher security systems, maybe do a deal with EV's to also give it strong GPS functionality and maybe integrated speech recognition typing.With some imagination this kind of phone could dominate the market just like the iPhone 5 and 6 previously did .

    • @dotcomDan
      @dotcomDan 5 років тому

      Which shortcuts work great for you ? I've found them to be buggy on mine

    • @Exedorable
      @Exedorable 5 років тому

      Mainly the buttons leading to an action. I have speed dial and txt shortcuts for frequent contacts and holding down a button for 1 sec feels so much faster than hitting a search field, typing a few letters of a name and selecting it, then selecting the sms option from their contact card. This especially shined during my wife and my last house hunt, where w/ 1 button I was calling her and w/ another button I'd call our agent. I've got shortcuts for everything - basically the fastest newest flagships (and I've tested a few) feel like a chore even tho they're way faster. I don't mind a momentary delay or a lag spike. What I can't get over is hitting 1 button instead of going thru 4 submenus. Nothing else will satisfy, not a 120hz refresh rate (Razer phone) or a boombox speaker (LG v40) etc etc

  • @rogerhudson9732
    @rogerhudson9732 4 роки тому

    Keys-- The thing about 'old' Blackberrys was that the key tops were contoured not flat. That was the reason typing was good. Cheap flat keys are just not good enough.
    Am I the only person who typed Blackberry by cradling the phone in one hand and finger type with the master hand, in my case left, perhaps because of my wide thumbs.
    Phones with keys are just better than screen typing.

    • @KBoon
