      Tami Gami well said, I love history, how names and words are created, the designers amazing creations.
      Andrea and Andrew and Fruity Knitting fans can introduce you to Whotknot a crafty podcast by an Aussie Queensland lady who is an incomplete quad, due to a car accident. She is your fan too.
      I would love to see her being interviewed as she is very inspirational. I am sure there must be a lot more amazing people who create beautiful projects and have a disAbility.
      I crocheted 5 huge throws while I was going through chemotherapy and radiation treatments in 2016 and 2017 where I used three strands at a time and I would dc crochet 3 rows in one colour say dark blue then the 4 th row would see me drop one strand and change that for a lighter blue then after 3 rows I would drop a second of the first colour strand and add another lighter blue until I would then crochet 3 rows of the lighter blue. I went from dark blue and added 4 more shades of blue then I would continue to complete the throws with the colour I began with or from say red and finish with dark blue with 5 colours being used throughout the throws.
      When I had one of those throws on my bed in hospital the staff including doctors and nurses were inspired to go back crocheting and creating something like my throws.
      So I was creating marle without knowing I was doing it.
      My granson wanted the blue one so we went to the yarn store and being on the autistic spectrum he had do lay the wool down in the floor to design his bed cover he loves so much. He knew what he wanted but needed to see it physically. He was 11 then,
      Keep up the great work and I absolutely live Extreme Knitting and Jack.

    Off topic, but innnnnteresting:
    As a fan, I decided to go back to the first episode and started working forward to present. I watch the newest ones as they air, but I then return to where I’ve left off.
    Surprisingly, I must be one of very few who has done this, as a count discrepancy appears between the number of subscribers being more than 10,000 compared to the view count of earlier episodes....as if there are fans of the show, yet they don’t watch it! HA!!
    The thing most noteworthy about THIS podcast, is that the preliminary, secondary, and tertiary broadcasts actuallay ARE as interesting and valid as the latest ones!
    The first episode separate from the above, this video podcast has maintained its focus throughout its entire run. ***** that is one of the strangest of things in podcasting, as I haven’t seen it with any of the others.
    So, in the end, I recommend to fans who haven’t yet, to go back and start binging from episode 1.

    We will miss you in two weeks, but as my mum always told me, you cannot look after others, if you don't look after yourself first. I think it fits in this case. We want you both healthy and happy. Another great episode. I love the marled effect. I just finished a toddler sweater in a marled yarn (I didn't do it myself) and now I am keen to make my own marled items. Thank you for taking us to Strasbourg. How have I never been there? The architecture is absolutely breathtaking. On my bucket list now for our next trip to Europe. Enjoy your time off.

    As always, this was such a great episode! It was super exciting to see Lily Kate France. I've been such a huge fan of her work for so long. (I actually still have my copy of that Vogue Knitting magazine that published her pattern when she was a teenager.) Also, thanks for the mention of my crochet garment by Lisa Richardson. Finally, your sweater is looking absolutely beautiful! Jennifer Beale's designs are quite fascinating. Keep doing what you do! Much love, Constance.

    Wow Andrew! Thank you so much for this wonderful explanation of colour. This actually makes more sense to me than the colour wheel. What beautiful, creative crochet projects. I love your visits to so many places that I will probably never get to see. That cathedral was incredible! Lili's "flutter sleeve of mohair is enchanting and as beautiful as the lace sleeve Andrew's working on, although perhaps an easier knit. I hope you have a wonderful, relaxing holiday doing the things you enjoy. It's a good opportunity for many of us to go back and binge watch all 105 episodes! There is so much to learn, re-learn and practice that you've shown over the years. HUgs!

    Hi Andrew & Andrea! 👋☺️
    I kind of agree about the suggestion to have the interviews perhaps once every third episode, to keep them more exclusive, and give you the time for you to produce them in a more relaxed tempo. I don't want you to get burned out from something that should bring you energy and positive time! ❤️ I honestly like watching you two chatting and knitting more, than an interview with someone I never heard of.... 😇 I love your podcast and want you to be well, so please take care and think of something you can change to give yourself some air in the system! Hugs! 🧡💚❤️

    Hi, I have some thoughts about this show... 1. I love it, it is so awesome and the production quality is amazing. 2. My point is that your working on it Full time 7 days a week for two weeks, that’s over a month between you two. Even though I love the interviews I just think maybe you should do do one like every month or two. This is a knitting podcast so maybe spend more of your time knitting then just in the evenings. My favorite part of the show is you both, for me the interviews are just a awesome extra. You spend so much time on this and I think you need a brake. this is just a suggestion, I love this show and I want it to be more sustainable for you all. Edit: that sweater is amazing!

    I bought lace yarn about 10 years ago and used very few of them, loved the colors, loved the “sale”! Unfortunately, before this video I had no idea for using them besides holding them together with a more traditional weight yarn! So, I hope 1000s of ppl see ur video and start to understand the delicious option of marling! Btw, I’m gonna buy lots more lace yarn! Your guest is a phenomenal wealth of information, not just for marling but for color choices as well! Thank you so very very much and the yarn weighting information was eye opening! Ty ty ty!

    Andrew and Andrea, I just want to say a huge thank you, for producing the show, I am already a Patron. I don't think that anyone wants to to burn out, as much as I love the show you should both be making sure that you have at least 4 weeks a year holiday, and that's a proper stand down, away from work, not including yarn shows as that. We had a knitting group at our local library and made hats n scarves for charity Christmas. People donated yarn to the library from deceased relatives garages or from "clear outs". Some were thin threads on large spools maybe lace maybe for knitting machines who knows. Most couldn't see it being used for hats or scarves, but I put it together w/various sport weight yarns.Didn't matter the stranger the color combinations the prettier they turned out. Alas the group has disbanded, the core group has scattered to different nations.

    I was mildly surprised as I began watching to find you were presenting marled knitting. You see I was at that time reworking a sweater I had knit years ago using six strands of varied weight yarn (black, dark gray, brown, beige, light gray and a multi-cream/brown). The six strands add up to a worsted weight. I am a machine knitter as well and so my stash has many thin yarns and I have mixed yarns for years, not always in such bland combinations. Always enjoy your presentation.

    I do enjoy your podcasts and have been a patron since the beginning. We don’t want you to get burnt out with it however and I would suggest finding a way to make it less intense for yourselves. I have seen others comment and I agree that you could produce interviews less frequently or allow more time between podcasts to give yourselves a bit of a break. I enjoy your sofa segments with just the two of you as much as anything. You wouldn’t lose me as a patron.

    Andrew - I am starting to write knitting patterns inspired by the experiences of my family who came out from Devonshire in the 1850's on the Duke of Wellington. My mum is sending me articles from the Adelaide newspaper at the time regarding on who was on the Duke of Wellington, and what they were carrying. I think you might get a kick out of these articles. Let me know if you want me to forward them to you.

    Glad you are taking time off. You are more than Fruity Knitting. You did not talk about what you are knitting next. I hope it is something far less complicated than you usually knit with few modifications. Something simple and elegant to not distract you on your vacation. Stay sane if possible, these are difficult times.

    Hi Andrew, I think it may help to realize the differing definitions of light, where physics and art each have different definitions. In physics White is the presence of all colors (all colors of light can be sorted out of a white light, likewise black is the absence of all color) while in art, white is the absence of all color and black is the presence of all colors. I have thought long and hard about this, as you have. I like the purple gradient to complete the visible spectrum (physics) and make it line up with the color wheel we are all taught in art. As your guest was showing her color wheel where she had white and black included I saw a column of color divided into sections, each section was a color wheel in its own right, but lighter or darker than the one shown, which was the pure colors. so the column would have long rows of colors, each of which shaded or toned from black to white. I enjoyed your theories about how to marry science and art as it relates to color. Thanks!

  • @francesbritton
    @francesbritton 4 роки тому

    I think Andrew would like playing with diffraction gratings! They split light into its spectrum of colours when you peer through it, and look psychedelic! I remember doing a little high school experiment to see what wavelength of light can you see up to, and apparently I could see up to 300 nm. Naturally, I would never doubt the accuracy of the cheap metre sticks and bendy school rulers that we used!

    I enjoyed seeing Lily Kate - way back I followed her mum's knitting blog and she just started publishing patterns; I knit her Wray waistcoat in Malabrigo lace and wore it a lot! So talented.
    Re. Strasbourg - check out the history of the 30 Years' War, the whole strip of land along the Rhine was passed back and forth and the French completely destroyed as much as they could when it was in German hands...
    Tanners are always on the outside of a town near a river because urine was used to tan hides and it stank...

    • @FruityKnitting
      @FruityKnitting  4 роки тому

      I loved how Lily took over the blog from her mum, and interesting to hear that you had discovered her so early. And yes - the tanners... I think the planning mistake in Strasbourg was that they were on the upstream end of the city, so all their waste flowed through the city. Thanks for watching!

    Hello Andrew and Andrea! Thank you for another power packed episode. I love Andrew’s history segments and both guests were phenomenal. I can understand why you are feeling burnout. Please consider this: each of your episodes are close to, if not the equivalent of, a full length movie time wise. Doing this twice a month really is not sustainable. Your episodes are packed with quality content; if you made each episode 30 - 45 minutes in length it would still be quality work well worth paying for. Fruity knitting is the only such vehicle I know of that offers about an hour and a half every two weeks, so trimming your work to 30 minutes each episode would still be offering so much more to your patrons and make life easier and more enjoyable for your both!
