- Cecelia Campochiaro appeared on the knitting scene in 2015 with her debut book, Sequence Knitting.Knitting was a causal pastime until she had an ah-ha moment in 2010 and realized that interestingtextured fabrics could be created by the simple repetition of a sequence of stitches. This idea evolvedand led to her writing Sequence Knitting, which is a reference book about this mindful approach toknitting. In the years since Sequence Knittingdebuted, she has continued to develop new ideas in knitting.Sequence Knittingis about texture, and her new book, Making Marls, is about color. In Making Marls, thetechnique of working multiple strands together as oneis explored as a way to create colorwork in handknitting.Cecelialives in Silicon Valley, where for many years she developed specialized microscopes used incomputer chip manufacturing. Textiles, photography and the arts have been a lifelong passion runningin parallel with her technical life. In high school and college even though her main studies were in thesciences, shealsostudied drawing, printmaking, ceramics, and photography. Not only is she interested in the arts and knitting, but also in books. Books have been the primarymechanism for knowledge transfer for over a thousand years. One of her missions is to honor thattradition and create books that are both informative, and also beautiful objects in and of themselves.Makers love beautiful things, and Cecelia feels strongly that books should be as lovely as tools and yarns.Today she is fully dedicated to the fiber world and “unventing” new ways to make amazing knit fabrics

Am constantly updating my "Best Fiberchats episode" pick, but this has to be it. Superb, sublime, and inspiring. Cecelia is brilliant. I love to hear her perspectives, knitting and otherwise. Such a great interview!!
Thank you so much! You just made my day!
Terrific interview! I can't wait to take classes with Cecelia at Stitches West.
sounds amazing
Thank you for introducing Cecelia to us! Such a great conversation with a very smart and engaging woman. I’ve spent 30 years as a hair color specialist prior to becoming a knitter. I can completely relate to her interest in the way the same yarn can be manipulated to get different end results.
Brilliant concept
Irina, you have a True Gift! You are a careful listener and a brilliant host and questioner. Another great episode.
Thank you! So kind of you!
Loved the honest way that Cecelia shared her story. hope I have an opportunity to take a class from her...Irina, you shine as an interviewer!
Aww, thank you!
Hello Cecelia, nice to meet you.
I have never done marling or sequence. It would be hard for my hands to work with fuller yarns and those held doubled!
Can I give you advise?
I have learned a lot here on UA-cam regarding Social Media. Especially for Instagram. I watch those while I'm knitting.
It's also being regular with posting, same time (i. e), so your audience will know when to expect something.
I'm the designer of the blue shawl behind Irina. 😁
I’ve been wondering what that complex shawl is! Wow, pretty.
Aloha from Hawaii! I love 5 lb books! 🌺
Me too!!
It’s so odd to hear someone referred to any type of knitting as “selfish“. Sounds like a moral judgment being applied to a craft😂
What a great interview!
Really enjoyed this interview. Once again you have interviewed someone I hadn't heard of and I'm off once again to look into some interesting ideas and patterns. Thank you to you both.
Thank you for watching!
Can I give this one like 100 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻! This was a fascinating conversation, in part because Cecelia has a unique and brilliant approach to design and fabric. And yes intimidating at first😊 Do you ever feel like you have more questions that you didn’t ask during the interview? I feel like this one might have an epilogue someday!
Oh, almost always. And yes, I might ask Cecelia back for my how become a better knitter series
love this so much
Wonderful interview, thank you, Irina! And wow I’m so inspired by your designs, thinking and process Cecelia hoping to meet you someday. ❤
Cecilia is such a kind, warm and humble person!
loved watching this again, I knitted the Viva cowl designed by Libby Jonson after she read and credited Cecilias making marls. Love the sequence knitting idea will go look for that book now.
I loved taking a class with Cecilia, seemingly simple, but very pretty
Wonderful interview Irina. Cecilia is a true inspiration. I've not heard of her books and but I now know what my partner can get me for Christmas!
Yes, a perfect gift for any knitter
WOW, what a wonderful interview. Very well thought out questions and honest answers. I can completely relate to the comments about working in technology with mainly men. Thank You to both of you for the interview!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Fabulous interviewer, fabulous interviewee. This was an absolute delight. I’m so inspired. I’m interested in learning but I haven’t known what’s out there. I’m fired up to explore sequence knitting and marling. I thought marling was really just random and the random unknown is what I don’t like. Applying more knowledge will make it more fun for me.
I had the same misconception prior to this interview
Making Marls is a wonderful book! Great conversation. "Selfish knitting" is a phrase I haven't heard before - lots of baggage with that one. Yikes! LOL.
I’m putting a special episode about all the issues of being creative. It’s coming out this Wednesday
Wonderful interview - both of you!! Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you both for such an interesting and inspiring interview!
Thank you for watching
What is the neon turquoise shawl behind you Irina?
it's called The Second One by A Passion for Lace (aka Monique Boonstra)
Wow incredible thank you!!!!
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for this interview! Cecelia is one of the greatest, abd her work is so important! I tried to get her books but they are out of stock 😀 hopefully one day I could get my hands on a copy ❤️
I’ll try asking her if there is a way to buy it
@@Fiberchats OH, Thanks! 🥰
Sequence Knitting and Marls are on the same board with Barbara Walker's Treasuries in my little knitting library. Actually even more prominent, because the books are so big and beautiful. I'd love to add a third one and the little white/gray swatches look so interesting! I like the thorough investigation of knitting science in Cecelia's books. Knitting is coding yarn, after all, and exploring the how and why is the very best part. Process knitting is good entertainment.
@ Cecelia: Please make the big book, and then maybe some smaller affordable ones, maybe something like the Field Guides - but those cannot take the place of a real reference work! We need both!
I vote big books as well
@@Fiberchats there are so many books around for the project oriented knitter ... and so very few for the process oriented exploration and theory loving squad!
Cecelia Campochiaro work is fascinating. What a brain ! Thanks for presenting her. Irina did you knit the lovely grey sweater you are wearing, what pattern is it ?
I can’t take credit for this sweater, it was purchased in a store.
@@Fiberchats That's why I couldn't find it on your ravelry page !!!
What a most enjoyable interview!!!
Thank you ladies ❤️
I couldn’t agree with you more Cecilia, I’m in my happiest place when I’m learning something new.
You empower my knitting, Cecelia! Look forward to your next inspirational book!
What an amazing designer - she is so inspiring! I want to knit the vest she was wearing during the interview. Thank you for a great interview!
Thanks for watching! ❤️❤️
You are a masterful interviewer!!!
Every video manages to be interesting! Your long-format videos allow discussion of really interesting concepts! Lots to think about.
I’m so glad you find it thought provoking
This was an excellent interview!!!! Cecelia is a fascinating person. Wow!!!🧶
She’s a gem
I am currently working on a Rizmu shawl that Cecilia created for Knit Stars several years ago. It’s gorgeous and so rhythmical to knit.
I might try it next
Great interview, thanks the fascinating interview. The scientific background explains the devotion to her subject. She talks so much sense. Loved it. I worked with many scientist / doctor types with hidden creative side to them once you got to know them. Jen x
Yes, it’s always so fascinating
Thank you for this interview. I admire Cecelia so much. Her work is inspirational.
Thank you!
I truly enjoyed this episode. I would like to sit down with Cecelia and just visit, compare careers, and learn from her. This interview was inspiring.
Glad you enjoyed
That was a very inspiring interview! Cecelia is the kind of knitter's author I would definitely have in my home reference library. I love marls as a handspinner and knitter of marls.
I live marling as well
LisaR: Cecilia's books spark endless creativity. I was fortunate to take her sequence knitting classes at Vogue Knitting Live . It was a true privilege to experience . There are so many ways to use this brilliant concept , It's truly endless. Her sample pieces were fabulous that she brought to class .
I loved talking with her
I thoroughly enjoyed this interview, Irina. Cecelia was very easy to listen to and she explained herself so well.
I had never heard of sequential knitting or marl knitting. They are both very interesting concepts and my mind is skipping around with what I can do with what I learnt today. ❤️💛🧡
I love marling for all those leftovers. The last time I did it was when I knitted Whatever sweater by Julieknitsinparis
I loved "Making Marls" Cecilia is truly inspiring, also
Thank you
What a wonderful interview. I could listen to Cecelia all day. What a treat to be in one of her classes! Thanks for bringing all of this knitting inspiration to us!
Thank you for watching!
Great interview, I’ve heard most of Cecelia’s interviews and she never disappoints. I am grateful for her contributions to the art form.
Thank you for watching!
Another very nice conversation. Thank you both.
Thank you
Well done, both of you, and many thanks.
Thank you for watching!
Irina, this was awesome. Best interview yet!
