That's the reason why Consumer Reports buys the products they test. To test what the consumer will actually receive and not some tweaked version for a reviewer.
The harmonics are not so hot, but I liked the display. ;)
How much filtering (in $$) would need to be added to clean up these radios? Like on a per radio basis, what would it add to the production costs? Or is it that the design does not allow for the needed filtering to be added? In other words, if they offered a "clean" version, but it's going to cost another $10, that's still a very affordable radio. They've been out for years with multiple version of the same models produced, so why have they not addressed the issue?
I don't know - that's more about building radios than testing, and out of my wheelhouse. I can't imagine it would add a lot of cost, and a 39 or 49 dollar radio would still be a bargain. I honestly think they just don't care.

Friend, tell me, do you have a program for flashing channels? Using "chirp" it is not possible to enter both Rx and Tx frequencies at once.
The radio is good for beginners. I was pleased with the frequency capture.

This is basically the Baofeng 5-rm in a new body. Remove the battery and the fcc registration shows that it’s a 5rm. Lots of tests on the 5rm have already shown how bad the harmonics are.

They made the GT-5R so it would be clean...then decided not to do that again.
They proved they could but went back to their bad habits. Guess they sell enough units to the uninformed not to care.

It receives "reviews" from folks who don't actually put it on test equipment. YMMV
