Something I've noticed nobody else says: When recruiting merms, you can recruit up to 3 Craftsmerms with food at a time, but 6 with Merm Guards. Meaning if you give a Merm Guard a food item, you'll recruit up to 5 other merms of any sort, but only 2 others feeding a Craftsmerm.
Her base stats are pretty good across the board, but with Merm King she has one of the highest total stat allotment in the game.
She's basically the same as everyone else without Merms, and with them she can take on several bosses far easier. Merms also trivialize certain recurring challenges like Vargs and Hound waves, and spider queens.
Merms can break rocks and chop trees
Wurt is VERY well rounded and frankly, her downsides don't even come close to justifying all of her perks.

My friend who never played Wurt is always trashing on Wurt and saying she is the second worst chratcter only because she can't eat meat... I tried convinceing him of all her upsides and how minor her downside actually is but no matter what, his response is just always "webber is wurt but not trash". It's truly sad to see what overreliance on pierogi for healing has done to our society😔 Great video, but you forgot about the most important thing - 4x spoilage time for fish, which is important because there are fishes with spacial properties like sunfish and ice bream who act as way stronger thermal stones, with combination of tin fishing bin which can FULLY restore any ocean fish's freshness you never have to worry about winter or summer anymore
There are so many Wurt haters... and they are badly educated. People trying to somehow say bunny men are better than the merms.
Her being vegetarian is her big advantage because she gets more food value from vegetables, she doesn't need a crock pot. She can cook anything over a campfire and eat it. There are a lot of foods that suck for all the other characters that are great for her.
Wait until bro discovers a different dish that isn't pierogi. Wurt doesn't struggle with healing if you know what you're doing. Neither does she struggle with hunger nor sanity. That guy just doesn't know his way around a crockpot. Early game you run Butterfly Muffins for healing with Kelp/Honey for hunger and Taffy for sanity. After earlygame you go Figatoni for healing, Kelp/Honey for hunger and banana shakes for sanity. Its not that complicated 💀
As Wurt you can also use cooked potato as a healing option, you get sanity with a fish on your pockets and if the fish is the one that spawns during winter or summer (don't remember the names) you also get a thermal stone that lasts more than 2 days before needing to place that fish in the fish box.
They're actually BETTER than thermal stones as you have zero need for insulating clothing or to warm/cool them off. They're a "ignore winter/summer" option once you have them, and also a 'ignore rain in early spring' option because being wet only makes Wurt cold, which you can of course ignore.
He's not a "vegetarian" he's a damn herbivore.
Something you missed that makes Wurt even better is that she gets no downsides from kelp, and she can read Wickerbottom books. She can live off kelp very easily, and still gets bonus hunger from them, and books are infinite sainity manipulation, so hunger and sainity for her is non existant. The book thing generally is op and could be reworked, it is instant and infinite. Merm wars are also a thing you can do for tons of fish and frog legs, merm guards respawn in half a day which makes it insane food for all survivours ( you may trade fish to the king for kelp and toooonns of seeds for wormwood)
Wurt could live on a boat with kelp, a bookcase and some fish and never die.
i mean, she does have a 2nd downside, wich is pigs being hostile towards her and not being able to trade with pig king, but still, she is the best. you can make flortifications easliy, because merms always attack tentacles (you alse get tentacle spikes very easliy). her biggest upside is being adorable af tho
Once you get dried kelp on the go she's unstoppable. Need to make a Merm King in the Caves to get the stat bonus down there. Pig skin can be tough given everyone bar merms hate her 😢
youre hyped about all the wrong things. forget stonefruit, just get kelp, itll feed you in the summer when stonefruit cant, you also need it for the diy kit. 4 potatoe and 4 toma root in 1 garden plot will always give seeds back and are both worth 20 health when cooked. you dont even need that though cause if you base in swamp, youll have 100s of mosquio sacks and spider glands for free. and the only boss youll ever need to melee are klaus and cc. and the scorched sunfish and icebream make winter and summer a nonissue
I agree that Wurt is a great character, but she's not the strongest. The strongest ones are Maxwell, Wanda and Wickerbottom
Just being able to have a merm army that will stay with you and work/fight at night is amazing. I roll with an army of 20-30 merms and decimate any enemy easily.
Wanda... not the best..? The only downside wanda has is that she takes a slight bit of skill and game knowledge to use, apart from that, she has literally *no* weaknesses. Speed is the most important stat in this game, and wanda literally completely takes that aspect of the game out using her watches, that character should not exist in this game (This is barring the fact that she has a base equivalent HP of 150 so no downsides there and does dps comparable to wolfgang, with added range on top.)
Wurth uses merms to chop down trees and mine rocks very efficiently, something Wanda doesn't do.
Wurt easily kills most bosses in a simple way, exceptions being the battle against Klaus and the Celestial champion
Spring is easy for wurt as frogs don't attack you and you suffer less from humidity
@@macat1597 chopping down trees and mining rocks becomes obsolete once the reanimated skeleton and bearger become available, both of which being easy to obtain considering wanda’s every other absurd upside. Spring is trivilaized by obtaining the eyebrella, and wanda doesnt even have to sacrifice an armor slot on her head as she can craft night armor (95% damage reduction… best armor in game) and use it without any downsides, since the sanity drain doesnt effect her.
All bosses that wurt kills with merms are either made trivial due to the backstep watch and damage of the alarming clock, or else easily cheesable in strategies which cost less, are less risky, and in general are accessible to every other survivor rather than merms. Instead of wasting resources on merm huts, wanda can use a backstep watch and alarming clock to kill dragonfly in under 5 minutes without taking a sliver of damage. And, frog rain isn’t an actual threat unless you play with caves turned off, in which case, are you even playing Dst? (Or, you know, you could just use the frogs to kill moose goose like anyone else..)
I wouldn’t say she’s THE best, but I definitely agree she’s one of the best and this guy criminally underrated her in this video lol.

@@macat1597 wow frogs dont attack her and she can mine rocks and trees slightly easier that surely makes her better than wanda who can literally teleport across the world in a single click and deal 142 damage per hit with a weapon obtainable in the first autumn
Maxwell is easily better than Wurt and is definitely one of the best characters. He does everything Wurt can do except he can do it day 1 without needing to set up any merm houses. He has servants to easily collect resources, duelists to easily take down bosses, a literal portable chest with 12 slots he can obtain day 1 and carry anywhere, and even has the cage and sneak for extra utility. Oh yeah, and lets not forget he has the option of using dreadstone with no penalty so he just has a permanent 90% damage reduction lol. The only way you can argue she’s better is in late game when Wurt has a ton of merm houses setup, and even still its not that big of a gap because Maxwell’s abilities also scale really well into late game with him getting access to fuelweaver equipment and a beefalo. I’d also like to mention that Maxwell has one of the easiest beequeen strats that makes it possible to kill her day 10, yeah, you heard that right, bundling wraps day 10 or even earlier and all you need is some nightmare fuel to fuel your codex, some healing food, sanity food such as cacti, a couple football helms, and knowledge of how to use his abilities; maybe you could argue Wurt can also do this but i’d argue it’d take alot more prep time and you’d have to focus on accomplishing that meanwhile Maxwell can be accomplishing other tasks and making progress to other things while at the same time still gathering the necessary resources to kill her early. So yeah he’s pretty damn good.
You also criminally underrated Wanda in this video; she’s definitely one of the best characters in the game. She has great combat abilities when you get her alarming clock, the ability to setup teleports anywhere she wants, an infinite source of healing day 1, and on top of all that she can use dreadstone and night armor with no penalty at old age, so you don’t even have to play old age as a glass cannon. This combination of abilities makes her good early game and late game. Early-mid game you have the healing factor and Wolfgang level damage to deal with bosses plus a teleport or 2 set up to save you tons of time, and late game you have the ability to teleport anywhere on the map with the click of a button alongside the damage of alarming clock to easily farm bosses on respawn and deal with any threats. Idk how you look at these abilities and just say “she’s not the best but she’s not the worst” lol.
Estoy de acuerdo. Personalmente creo que Maxwell es más sólido al principio y al final. Prácticamente es dos personajes en uno al poder usar los libros de Wickerbottom. Eso sí Maxwell y Wurt son una de las mejores sinergias del juego. Conseguir las casas de Merm no es un problema con el farmeo de Maxwell. Y las batallas de bosses se pueden hacer con: trampa de sombras + merms

Yeah Maxwell is just busted op, if i were forced fo choose a character to nerf it would be him. Wurt is 2nd best.

dont forget that maxwell can also read wickerbottom books meaning he also has all the abilities of wickerbottom if you have all the books and a bookcase
Those are some weird and weak point. But you know, we all like to think our favourite character is the best.
I believe that characters in DST are intentionally designed to have different impacts on play styles, and game experience to emphasize other characteristics of players.
As a bonus, having players keep discussing "the best" character also makes the game more fun, since the players have a chance to share their interesting opinions and characteristics with others.
Due to these amazing benefits, if there is a "best" character in the game, chances are it will be redesigned to avoid having 1 character that ruins the other 18 characters and keep the fun going.
The same design method is also applied to items, bosses, seasons, crops, and food...
That’s kind of an ignorant outlook; there definitely is a best character and worst character, and there always will be no matter how big the gap is between them and the rest of the roster. And i’d say the gap is actually pretty big between the best and worst characters in this game.

I love Wurt, i think shes really fun, but anything she can do other characters can do cheaper. The not going down with the ship perk is super meh when you consider how cheap just pocketing a spare grass raft is, and while Merm guards are great, Wickers tentacle traps are much cheaper, and any character can use beardlords at a pinch.
Meanwhile the "ok" Wickerbottom is casually turning the rain and full moon on and off and the "ok" wx is casually rolling around with three speed boosts or permanent night vision or freezing/overheating immunity. Good doesn't always equal fun (Warly main here), but i really wouldn't place Wurt in S tier given what some of the other characters can do
You start by presenting one of Wurt's least relevant perks as being the best thing ever. More experienced players don't really worry about sinking (maybe only during the Crab King fight if they don't yet have their strategy nailed down), whereas beginners... hah... that's most likely not even in their top 100 list of things to worry about / die to... Wurt is an amazing character and definitely one of the best in the late game, but your assessment of many of the other survivors is borderline painful... Maxwell is definitely top tier; Wolfgang is an amazing boss killer (why do you think all the speed runners use him?), so is Wanda in the right hands and she also has some really good late-game utility, Wortox is anything but amazing and is actually in need of some love/buffs, Winona is great at trivializing and automating certain farms and even some of the hardest boss fights in the game, etc. etc. etc.
I'm conflicted because it's unclear who your target audience is... it's as if you are stuck between two worlds and you seem to present the worst for both beginners and advanced players. Beginners following your advice might easily get mislead and end up having a poor experience, whereas experienced players will find many of your assessments plain wrong and comical (to say the least). There's nothing wrong in having an opinion and this video clearly states your opinions... but if your goal is to simply voice your opinions without caring much/at all about factuality, then do please disregard my comment completely and keep on doing whatever brings you joy and satisfaction. ;)

Wurt is good, I play Wurt quite often, when I want some different gameplay.
If they ever consider any nerfs for Wurt they would go for removing benefits of 33% more food values of vegies for her... As you mentioned Klei give Wurt some love but to get to better stuff and be like wrecking ball you nees lots of resources and time

She is super fun to play
beating the survival parts of the game easily,being good at gathering ressources and being good at gathering bosses. the only two downsides arent even that bad as yea its less effective but you can also trade to the merm king for gold and the diet isnt that bad cause you can use stone fruit and kelp all year round and for all year round healing there's honey poultice and healing salves but for healing when it's not winter there's butter muffins and trail mix who are pretty easy to mass produce and yea heal less then pierogies but still are pretty good healing wise and yea you need to eat more of them for healing in a fight but it really aint that bad since it's easy to mass produce. essentially giving high upsides but no significant downsides.
and the ressource cost aint that bad apart from setting it up at the start as with a merm king you can trade fish(non ocean fish to be precise) for tentacle spots and you can use the merms for gathering the flint and wood required for the houses. the only real problem is setting up the merm king but you can just break down pig houses and kill pigs for the pig skin, the beefallo wool aint that bad to get and anyway for the kelp you'll get it quickly as it's everywhere in the ocean and eitherway youd want to get icebreams for summer so you should pretty easily be able to get the merm king to start setting up a merm village in less than 30 days even less if you decide to get kelp in autumn.
kelp eitherway is a good food source and filler if you dont wanna rush lunar for stone fruit or just dont wanna bother with taking care of stone fruit since compared to kelp it needs fertiliser and it needs an ice flingomatic for summer and just overall reassurance though if you set up stone fruit it is overall about as effective if not more effective of a food than kelp and you can open stone fruit easily using merms.
also taking care of a merm king is pretty simple as youll have easily plenty of food and at max hunger he takes 10 days to starve(4 days at the minimum hunger needed to turn a merm into a king) and eitherway youll only need him for bosses,ruins and gathering ressources so he really doesnt take much care as you can feed him 6 kelp to turn him into a king and then trade fish to get back said kelp making taking care of him basically free and as long as you've got 2 craftsmerm houses near the tapistry there should always atleast be a merm ready to be fed to become a king. just the only problem is that you'll need two merm kings if you're planning to use merms in the caves but again after you get a merm king it wont be hard to get a 2nd one.
wurt is screwed over by the fact pierogies are so overpowered. like holy crap, the meat recipes are either decent or opaf.

"wolfgang-not that bad but not that great, wendy-top tier character" what youre saying, wendy is maybe good for rushing one boss and farming spiders while wolfgang is still better at rushing this boss, almost as good for farming spiders cause he one shoots them, and is the best character for almost every boss in the game and def for rushing almost every boss in the game. Wendy is arguably one of the worst characters in the game due to shitty damage and this ghost is not that good at all, very bad for 90% bosses in the game. And wigfrid is worst combat character in the game so not good at all. Wanda not the best but not the worst? this character is totally op, top 2 most damage in the game, can teleport, second best or best for most bosses, def way better than wurt, and wendy which is D tier max. Wanda and wolfgang S tier, wortox x woodie combo S++ tier, wurt A+ tier, wx A tier (best for rushing ruins, fastest in the game, nightvision mod). Wurt is very good but def not op, merms are better pigs or bunnys, wet thing is good but not game changer, merm king is good but not amazing and shes def not that good for caves. Try playing wanda if you think wurt op or wolfgang if youre better player, dragonfly day 2 every playthrough. Also wurt downside is actually downside while wanda and wolfgang downsides are not downsides at all
I wish wormwood would get better, i think hes the coolest looking character and wurt 2nd. I hope they don't nerf the merms if they update her because that would make me stop playing her.
