It’s hilarious seeing Bret nearly break character at the mention of El Dandy.
Bret was corpsing HARD at that one! It was HILARIOUS!
SEND FOR THE MAN.
It was perfect because he lets you know even as a heel that its ridiculous 😂
Bret Hart to induct El Dandy into the WWE Hall of Fame.
Lmfao 😆😆😁😁😁
El Dandy has a good of a chance as Yankee Doodle Dandy of getting inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame !!!!
"...A real jam-up guy..."
@@samimir8626 Who are you to doubt El Dandy?
If Koko B Ware can be inducted well so can El Dandy
"You must outweigh him by 150 pounds ?!?!?!?!?"
" .... I got a groin injury ..."
😂😂😂
😆 and Rey is a multiple time heavyweight champion, who's beaten guys like Randy Orton, Eddie Guerrero, John Cena, and Kevin Nash! But we're supposed to believe,it's out of the realm of possibilities, that he'd give Bret a good fight! 😆 😆 😆
@@superstarreviews9937 No way, that wasn't my intention!
Bret is working heel in this promo. (he was giving the bookers a few hints I imagine).
He's said on multiple occasions that he loves Rey Mysterio. They could've worked a programme where Bret bullies and cheats to win each match until Rey wins the big pay-off and everybody goes home happy.
@xziggy_stardustx6786 I'm not even talking about you! 😆 I'm talking about the fact,Bret mentioned Rey and the interviewer laughed it off!
I cracked up at the 'Always a lot of CAMERAS AROUND' moment. Bret doesn't get enough credit for how funny he actually can be.
Bret is very funny. I've heard a lot of wrestlers say that about him.
The best there ever will be doesn't get enough credit?
Bret hart was a visionary. He wanted to give cruiserweights a chance at legitimate belts.
Why does that make him a visionary? Cruiserweights don’t draw with the exception of a very few.
@@Jamie-kv9eg pretty sure he was being sarcastic

bret hart buries the world but puts over el dandy lmao
You could tell he was really having fun in WCW. Do you watch AEW by chance?
El Dandy one of the greats of my country México
@Raul Ramirez Boy that flew right over your head. I'm very well aware how he felt in WCW. I've seen countless interviews. I've read his book. And met Bret on two occasions. I agree his promos were excellent.
Who are you to doubt El Dandy?!
El Dandy was axtually a great wrestler though
Knowing how much Bret hated his time in WCW it’s nice to see him genuinely smile while trying not to break when mentioning El Dandy
He was ultimately making 3 million dollars a year he couldn't have been too unhappy.
Bret was never happy
Who are we to doubt the power of El Dandy?
I'm not worthy to doubt El Dandy 😓
I really need to see El Dandy's high flying moves.
HOW ABOUT HYPONSIS?!?! HE'S THE HIGHEST HIGH FLYER OF THE HIGHEST MAGNITUTUDE!
He’s a great wrestler
A jam up guy and serious professional.
God, Bret was such a fantastic Heel. The bitterness and cynicism just oozes out but in the most hilarious way. The GOAT.
Lol he was a great heel but I still think Bret greatest "natural" babyface ever. (Him and Sting)
@@cappy2282 he was one of those guys that could play a equally good heel or Babyface. That's rare because most guys can only do one or the other, for instance the miz ( heel ) stone cold ( babyface ) etc.
@cuckertarlson3037 Austin made a hell of a heel in '96 which is what got him so over in the first place. True that his '01 heel run spoiled the business forever, but he had a great start
Bret was great. Hahahaha. He was so sarcastic and a smart ass. Hilarious!
"Stalwart technician". Hart is a legend!
He manages to turn the interviewer into the heel
That smile that Bret gives after mentioning El Dandy lol. Even he was laughing at how ridiculous that sounded 🤣
Bret's WCW promos are seriously underrated. When he first hit it big in the WWF with Neidhart, he had that arrogant, cocky heel attitude. But his mic skills were atrocious. He brought that character back when he went to WCW. With his vastly improved mic skills, he showed how talented on promos he really was. Great stuff.
He was very good as the smarmy heel, even though he seemed to prefer being a generic Canadian hero white bread babyface.
@@TheMt45 the kids looked up to him. Bret took that shit seriously.
That is the true tragedy. I always felt that Bret had some of his best years still in him. But then Montreal and epic WCW misshandling came ...... and that fucking clumsy hypejob Goldberg.
On the Mic, Bret really found his groove in 1997 and in the ring he was as good as ever.
@@TheMt45 people Bret mic skills suck but they got better the last five years and this promo has cult following
@@TheMt45 i prefer Bret as face. Honest they should made him edgy face like Steve Austin.
The highest honor of any wrestler is to be honored by the Hitman; the highest moment of El Dandy's career
arise212x I wouldn’t say he was terrible, his 97 promos were amazing,
Bret can certainly wrestle his way out of a clogged mine shaft; too bad WCW ruined his career by prolonging the nWo and having him join that faction instead of focusing on his talents sparring with wrestlers like DDP, Curt Hennig, Ric Flair and pushing younger talent like Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, Raven, Saturn, Kanyon just to name a few
Hugh Jass and El Dandy! Remember, who are we to doubt El Dandy?
...theres always a lot of CAMERAS AROUND! 😂😂😂
I know this comment is old but its always spooky when i read the comment at the exact time it happens in the vid lol. Have a good one
@@dwaynegreene152 bro that happens to me a lot! what are the chances?
Bret had a point. That interviewer was burying the luchas.
The frustrating irony of Bret giving by far his funniest and most interesting promos in WCW.
Especially since they all come from a place of legitimate frustration and bitterness.
"Oh, so you're giving me dick all to work with? Ok! I'm gonna cut promos about cruiserweights and Smokey the cat! How about that?!"
HE'S A JAM UP GUY!!!
I’m watching this and laughing, but also hating the fact that we never got at least one Rey Mysterio vs Bret Hart match.
That would being epic
Bret Hart is one of the most "real-looking" punishing wrestlers, and Rey is one of the best at taking bone-crunching bumps. It would have been brutal.
Bret vs Rey or Dean would have been a hell of a match.
@@johnbradley6466 I thought they had matches against each other at one point in time in WCW
@@deepnthought. Yeah, Bret fought Dean at least once on Nitro...decent match.
Mad respect for Bret Hart! He truly was the best there was the best there is and the best there ever will be!
What makes the joke even more funny is that it's actually true. he really was a good wrestler
that giggle at 1:17
It now makes one wonder if there was a story.
He probably giggled because the way the interviewer said, "OH COME ON! El Dandy?! COME ON!" was funny
His best interview was in wwf in 97 when he said IF I COULD GIVE AMERICA AN ENEMA ID STICK THE TUBE RIGHT HERE IN PITTSBURGH
Jay Dav That's my favorite.
Jay Dav that's hilarious
Lol hours after saying that he said he felt bad about saying that. That he was pressured to trash on the fans and where they're from. He said this infront of his camera crew while they filmed his documentary Wrestling with Shadows. Its literally still inn there, said he didnt feel that way about Pittsburg. The camera man then asked him where he would actually stick the enema, in what state. He repiled..
Idk Washington DC?
If that were today, all the idiots in the audience would have cheered for him when he said that.
i like how he puts dean malenko into the el dandy category
That’s how wcw viewed dean. He was just keeping continuity while also giving a shout out to his friend
@@trscsaeg no this was bret burying him, he didnt like that malenko injured his groin and got changed/left quickly before acknowledging the mistake
In WCW cruiserweights and heavyweights did not fight and were in distinct weight classes. Malenko being mentioned made sense in WCW.
@@cmoney1928 no it doesnt make sense, malenko is not meant to be in this joke and thats why mean gene didnt mock him or say he wasnt serious competition when his name was mentioned originally
btw cruiserweights and heavyweights did fight and benoit was a crusierweight so you should apologise for wasting my time explaining it to you
Benoit wasn't a cruiserweight and the cruiserweight very rarely had one on one matches with the top guys.
Holy shit! I knew about his interview with Okerlund, but I never knew he want on about El Dandy like this! Great stuff.
It must have gone over back when it happened cause he brought it up himself and he even cracked a bit knowing it was a funny line
Once again, Brett Hatt is great on the mic. Its kinda bizarre because at the time he was considered to have "weak" mic skills, but thats really only because there were so many guys with amazing mic skills and depth of character back then, it was a challenge to be the front runner. But if you compate Brett's mic skills to any newcomer after 2000, he obliterates them. Hes very natural, and convincing.
It's because other people become comedians when they have the mic and that's what people find entertaining. Few people appreciate a serious, straight to the point kind of talk and that's what Bret delivers.
Compared to the guys now Bret Hart is great on the mic .
@@wolfgangsebastian8357 you are exactly correct. I received a ton of hate on here because I said kevin nash and arn anderson were better than the rock on the Mic. I get it. The rock was entertaining. But it was all jokes and nursery rhymes. I'm 45 years old and I grew up with those guys and Jake Roberts and Ole anderson. Guys that when they spoke, you believed that shit. I'm not a big cm punk fan,but he understoond that. Its a lost art.
@@lonniemeyer7232 Arn was pretty good at everything. I actually loved watching his matches.
@@lonniemeyer7232 I think Arn is. He's phenomenal, and underrated. Absolutely convincing in everything he said. Nash is good, but probably not on the level of The Rock.
Going into business for himself to work a big $ program with El Dandy!
Bret Hart vs El Dandy would have been an epic match.
It would've been the 1st ever 10 star match. It would've been one of those wrestling matches that every generation would've talked about like the Savage vs Steamboat at wrestlemania 3.
Tom Smith indeed
See El Dandy vs Emilio Charles Jr, or El Satanico. Pirata Morgan is an honorable mention.
Yeah, el rudo de los ojos verde vs the excellence of execution would have been glorious.
Bret v El Dandy at WM
@@Vikashar Right!?
01:17 nice to see Bret having fun.
Interviewer: You outweigh Rey Mysterio by 150lbs!
Bret was 235lbs, so that means Rey was 85lbs??
El Dandy was always a jam up guy
Considering the kind of match he had with 123 Kid on Raw, he could have a classic with El Dandy too
Who are we to doubt El Dandy? Davros maybe. But we know how that went down.
"He's a great wrestler, I don't know why you guys schuck on this guy all the time" what makes it funny is Bret implying people talk about El Dandy a lot 😂😂😂 good shit lol
El Dandy vs Hypnosis winner gets a title shot 😂
Now THIS is a gem of a find, and I would have gladly paid the Backstage Pass fee to see this episode of Nitro! Bret is in great spirits here and was obviously having a good time--hilarious! This is even better than the famous Okerlund interview the Hitman gave about not doubting El Dandy. It disgusts me, though, to hear WCW staff disrespecting--actually, burying--their own lucha libre cruiserweights. Those guys were a significant part of what made Nitro so enjoyable during its peak years. Furthermore, Bret Hart never kids around about respecting the wrestling ability of another performer, and he has a great legacy of working outstanding matches with guys who were smaller than him (1-2-3 Kid, Jinsei Shinzaki/Hakushi, and Billy Kidman and Saturn, eventually). Bret could've had amazing matches with Eddie Guerrero (WHY did this never happen???), Chris Jericho (in his heyday), Rey Mysterio, Jr., Psicosis, and, yes, even El Dandy.
don't forget hypnosis. A high flier of highest magnitude.
I couldn't remember if he ever wrestled Eddie Guerrero, There is zero doubt in my mind that those 2 guys together would have put on maybe the greatest matches ever seen. Eddie could do it all! and Bret would have made sure that all of Guerrero's talents were displayed in the matches, just like the 123 Kid match, but Eddie is a few levels beyond the 123 Kid as a wrestler. Damn, these kinds of "what if's" are so frustrating!
Even mysterio gets a shout out here
@@user2176 I feel your pain, Mick! Bret and Eddie worked for the same wrestling promotion for a couple of years, so there's no excuse for their not working together, especially since Malenko got a shot at the "Hitman" (and legitimately injured him through carelessness in the ring, which is mind-boggling). But this is WCW we're talking about. The higher ups never had a clue what to do with Bret or anybody else, frankly. Anyway, I'm in total agreement with you that Bret Hart and Eddie Guerrero could have put on a clinic for the ages. Eddie is one of the handful of wrestlers whose technical polish/crispness was in or near the same league as "The Excellence of Execution."
Another dream opponent Bret never faced is The Great Muta (Keiji Mutoh). Just writing their names on the card would've produced five stars. LOL! VERY frustrating that these matches never happened, among so many others . . .
@@ArnoldArchives Another guy that he did actually get to wrestle was Fit Finley. After they stuck Bret on Thunder and seemed to try to bury him, he still would have great matched. I thought one guu who he could have had a great feud with would have been Finley. Both very physical, same size, 2nd generation and both had fathers that ran local promotions. Well, they had one match, was good but way too short, no feud/ story or reason why they were wrestling each other. On top of that the guys calling the match talked about Goldberg and Hogan the whole time, like Bret and Finley were irrelavant. 2 of the best technical guys ever and interesting characters/ history and nothing, no story or promotion, just another wcw one- off match to be discarded with the rest of them. Another plain example of wcw dropping the ball, but at least we got to see Goldberg run through all their talent aimlessly and end peoples careers early.
lol Bret couldn't even keep a straight face he started laughing when the dude is like "come on El Dandy?"
Lol, felt like Bret was channeling Owen with this cowardly heel promo. Looked like he made himself laugh at 1:15 hehe
Exactly what i thought
That is 2 times El Dandy has been put over and WCW still would not give him a push.
Great promo from Bret. Felt real. One of his best.
i love bret and he isnt burying the talent but the interviewer is!
Who is that interviewer to doubt the cruiserweights?
@@BlackenedLiam Yes! Who is he to doubt Hypnosis?!
I remember when Chris Jericho said that El Dandy was the winner of Lou Ferrigno lookalike contest.
And hypnosis...psychosis had a bunch of hubcaps in his collection and could procure one after the show :-)
This is the most charismatic I've ever seen bret
Thank God one of pro-wrestling's greats has finally acknowledged El Dandy as the real competitor that he is.
Only 3 people doubt El dandy
They can say whatever they want to tear these guys down, but they're still the high flyers of the highest magnitude.
Luu Sapphire and a jam up guy
There’s always a lot of CAMERAS AROUND 😂
Credit to Bret Hart for giving El Dandy respect, he should of had a US title match with Bret Hart. A lot of wrestlers from that time look down on the cruiserweights because they were small but given the chance they had much better matches than the heavyweights.
*should've
He’s not giving him credit here you idiot he is a bad guy. This is a bad guy interview. He’s making el dandy look like an idiot by mentioning him.
@@evilsWa he not making el dandy look like idiot . He making el dandy seem powerful just so he can weasel his way out a tougher oppenent
But im sure he had respect for el dandy for real
@@Monchi2006 ism sure Bret did . but that what funny about this interview he picking the cruiserweight so he can easily beat them. this promo is ment to make him look like a coward. I can tell you if Bret did face rey and el dandy WCW would made squash match.
This is the most animated I’ve ever seen Hart.
El Dandy is part of the Hart Foundation at this point.
Why is this interviewer burying every guy Bret mentions? Including Rey Mysterio lol.
Jesus Wenceslao
Because the interviewer is unprofessional; and Rey Mysterio is garbage
Starscream91
Yeah, that’s unprofessional on the part of the commentators; they’re running down their own roster.
The Gr81 your mom’s garbage and I’m the trash man!
These small guys were vanilla in WCW.
The interviewer is REALLY annoying, he made a joke of Bret and the cruiserweights
Brett Hart in 1998 is naming people that would be dream matches 10-20 years later.
Hart vs Mysterio? Hart vs Malenko?
Lol those Howard Stern shades were iconic

No joke...Bret vs Rey, el dandy, malenko, psychosis etc etc...would be incredible
Was this before or after his "El Dandy" promo with Mean Gene. I know that Bret meant it as a joke, but they should have had a match. El Dandy never got a title shot. He lost the WCW US Title to Roddy Piper. When Bret beat The Miz for the WWE US Title in 2010, I was hoping that WWE was going to bring El Dandy back for a title shot. That never happened either.
that would have been great but too obscure. Not many people remember the el dandy thing
hezamachine , you can tell this is after the Mean Gene version. Bret is trying to match the original.
I don't think he meant it as a joke. I think it was his tounge in cheek way of mocking the WCW for burying their own wrestlers and shitting all over the cruiserweight division.
I heard hypnosis is a great high flyer too!
Will survived the Upside-Down and left Hawkins to interview wrestlers on WCW
El Dandy is every single one of us.
El Dandy is an amazing wrestler I'm serious.
What about Rey Mysterio? "You outweigh him by 150 lbs...meanwhile Rey at this time is feuding with Jericho who weighs about the same as Bret....that goof had no clue.
Even Kevin Nash put Mysterio over in a match
Who is this geek? Ken Resnick Jr? WCW had some right chumps backstage.
Rey did win a few World titles. Who are you to doubt Rey!
Rey exposed the business no matter who he faced. He should have won the midget championship or something.
MrSinister718
Hold on, this is a “chicken or egg” thing.
Did Rey expose the business or did Lucha itself - once brought to a mainstream audience through WCW expose the business?
Bret Hart vs. El Dandy....? Dream match material to me. 😆
tag team would have been nice. Dandy Hearts
THE GOAT
Andy Kaufman had an infamous gimmick where he'd only fight women to defend his title. They should have made this a regular heel gimmick where Bret would only agree to fight cruiserweights to defend his title
That would have been great. Bret probably doesn't get injured if they went with that angle for a bit
Who are we mortals to doubt El Dandy?
