Maybe this explains some of the dings and dents on our Project HMMWV Battlewagon. When we got it from the US Army there were patched bullet holes, spent shell casings, and a LOT of sand hidden in every crack and crevice inside.

I have this same philosophy when driving through some bad parts of New Jersey late at night! Don't stop for anything! Of course the streets have few cars at night so no need to ram into cars. But in some neighborhoods waiting at a red light can mean you become the target of a car jacker, gang attack, etc. so you just slow down, make sure it's clear, and then take off again! No need to worry about being stopped by the cops, since you never seem to see any cops in the really bad areas. Its ironic.

@jackthePS3GAMER actually the humvee is not very safe against roadside bombs, its low to the ground compared to other vehicles and is flat bottomed. The M-ATV is one of the vehicles that will replace the humvee. The M-ATV is designed to protect its occupants from IED attacks. The Humvee started out as a light armored vehicle and has gotten successively heavier with each armor upgrade, this extra weight combined with the limited ability to armor the bottom of humvees makes them poor vs IED's
