Onix is pretty decent here though. It's job is to be a Physical Wall (especially to Normal Attacks like Hyper Beam), and most importantly Toxic stall. Teamed up with Skarmory, it blanks Electric types and can survive Fire Attacks. Skarm is the main for a reason, but we all know from Brocks gym how damn annoying Onix is without Special Attacks.
@@tylerd1297 interesting... I never made it down below the level 60 levels due to the lack of stat exp. Is that scaled? As in, does the level 10 floor require less stat exp than the level 100 floor? And if early game pkm like Onix are more viable, does that mean early game evos are viable too? Like butterfree or beedrill?
Tbh I'm not sure about the stat exp. I've heard that at all levels the Battle Tower are maxed out, but not from a legitimate source. Your 2nd question I don't entirely get in relation. I think the answer is no, because those are both really frail and overall bad Pokémon, likely facing high or max stat exp opponents. Whereas Onix has above average defense (accounting for HP) and useful resistances. There is one notorious loophole for abusing Level 10 though, Dragon Rage. If you can get a Lapras or Aerodactyl that knows it, it OKHO's nearly everything. I think the Toxic stall strategy that OP is using is the next most reliable method. It was even used by one of the biggest Pokémon speedrunners, Werster, in his attempts to speedrun the Tower, also using Onix with Skarmory. The current WR for beating the Battle Tower uses Wobbuffet, Gyarados, and Miltank. Gyarados kinda sucks, so that should tell you that some low end Pokemon can work.

The battle tower is very hard at every level you faced it. You always have a good moveset of your team. With Skarmory you used well the trap of toxic and protect with Porygon2.

Also in Pokemon Emerald there was a little percentage of missing attacks even if they had 100% precision, that's why I used to use bright powder and double team 😂
