    This is a godsend, I resented at the thought that studio Ghibli would be taking a more three dimensional imagery approach because whilst the story of 'Earwig and the Witch' itself wasn't appalling, the 3D animation was horrid. Can't wait for The Boy and the Heron, another Ghibli masterpiece incoming in such a long time. 😭

      Earwig and the Witch was made by Hayao's son, Goro. Funny story, Hayao was opposed to his son wanting to direct films which of course, his life time passion. Understandable. And he sarcastically rated Earwig and the Witch as good as pixer movies lol However, there is a movie Hayao also created for his son to apologise for not being at home for Goro as his father a lot of time. It was Hayao's way of apologising which I thought it's heartwarming.

    this is what ive been wanting for this past few depressive months. the comfort of a miyazaki film. the feeling of familiarity of being there while everything feels so surreal. where the plot doesn't matter because the characters speak for themselves. a way of storytelling where it feels like a warm hug on a rainy evening.

    • @puurfectlysplendid
      @puurfectlysplendid 7 місяців тому +7

      I agree. I honestly think our recent cinema industry has been a joke. Especially the live action copies. Nothing original in modern creations. Hayao Miyazaki is famous for truly hating using AI when it comes to his creation. He has one of the most traditional Japanese spirits to his core especially for art (for him = life), which you could see how he represent things around and the life itself. When I realised as his creations hits so many people's hearts especially when they become adult is because his creations are very realistic and never end with just a dream of magic, there are so much meanings and tons of slight, tiny implications in what he creates that takes ages to really understand, which of course he never breakdown. He is indeed one of the greatest world treasure/artist of our time. There are a lot of reasons why he won't breaking down his creations to the public and why he's very strict about that. I see the reasons why. People are forgetting how to create things. Just way too much copies of old movies and even ruining the classical arts.

      There's this Japanese word called "Ikigai" It is a Japanese concept referring to something that gives a person a sense of purpose, a reason for living. If you are robbed of your ikegai then life becomes dull and meaningless. The same concept that my mom follows, she's been an entrepreneur her whole life, and now in her senior years, she is still selling stuff, she finds it meaningful and it removes any grief from her from being a widow. You are vulnerable when your body, mind, and spirit are idle.
      Hope you are following your ikigai or looking for it.

    I am Japanese and I've watched it twice. The film is quite polarizing in Japan. While there are many people who give it a one-star rating, there is also a substantial group that gives it five stars. I belong to the latter camp. I interpret the story as the journey of the young protagonist coming to terms with reality, embracing both its good and bad aspects. However, the general perception is that it's Hayao Miyazaki's confessional film about his mother complex (which I don't think is fair). While the film may lack in entertainment value, I believe it is well-suited for those who engage in philosophical thinking.

    I live in Japan and watched it twice in 2 days.
    It's the best Miyazaki film in my opinion yet the most complicated film so I recommend watching it once, relearn by reading and watching explanatory articles and videos then go watch it again.
    There are so much knowledge involved to fully comprehend this film so it is impossible to understand everything just by watching.
    At the same time I really felt this was Miyazaki's last film of his life since this film differentiates from other Miyazaki films that it really feels like this was something he wanted to put everything into and not make a film to sell. The reason also being that this film had 0 PR in Japan and suddenly started airing in theaters.

    At 0:36 there is a writing on the top of the door: "fecemi la divina potestate".
    The language is called volgare fiorentino, a dialect that would have led to the italian language.
    The writing on the top of the door means "i have been created by the divine power" but the fact is that this particular passage: "fecemi la divina potestate" is an actual passage of the Divina Commedia by Dante Alighieri.
    It is written on the top of the entrance for Hell so it is possible that the door in the trailer is connected to the underworld.
    Hoping to have said something interesting, saluti a voi tutti dall' Italia

    Already I can see various visual homages including Sophie in Calcifer's flames, Lady Eboshi with her nanny army, Ashitaka as an older version of Sosuke, a sword-wielding Kiro Honjo and Spirited Away's river god in human form.
