We need to be supporting more animated shows like this. The art style, the environment and creature designs, the sounds, it all works so well! It reminds me of another project I saw here on youtube called "Playground" that takes a more surrealist horror approach but I am genuinely so hyped for it!

Made in Abyss was a cool show. Scavengers Reign is based on the short film Scavengers that was released on Adult Swim. It is completely original. Some say it has major influences from early Sci-Fi comics in the 1970s like Mœbius. @@elphie2390

Easily the best and most original animated series in years. The amount of thought and care put into the world-building alone is worth multiple watches. I've never seen anything like it before. Just absolutely phenomenal from start to finish.

Yes this is gorgeous but I'll guarantee you no one's going to watch this this is exact reason why animation studios are being cut because they're all going to look at it and go oh it's a cartoon it's for kids

@@aarojpoll Animation got most studios through the first years of the pandemic. Arcane is one of Netflix's biggest shows ever. Simply making money isn't enough in a capitalist system - people have to get up in front of a board of stockholders and explain how they're going o have higher profits than the year before. That's why departments get cut. The goal isn't success for the company, it's making more money than they did last year until they can't anymore.

@@ez-8238 you can’t say one art style is objectively better than another. a high level of detail isn’t always necessary, nor is it always desired. until you’ve seen the full show, you really can’t judge whether or not the art fits this project. they may have very deliberately chosen this style because it helps to convey the themes and ideas the story is trying to get across. it’s pretty silly to look at two different styles of animation and try to argue that one is inherently superior to the other. to me, this looks to be very much influenced by the style used for a lot of modern graphic novels, which in principle isn’t that far off from how anime has traditionally drawn inspiration from the art style of manga.
@@ez-8238More “detail” does not = better art, especially in animation. People generally mean “fancier character designs with lots of pretty bits and baubles on them and lots of shiny special effects and lensflare” by “more detailed”, anyway. It seems like that must be what you mean, since there is indeed an incredible amount of detail in the majority of the shots in this trailer, such as the various environmental and body horror shots. It’s just shaded and drawn in an aesthetically “simple-looking” way, as what is very clearly a stylistic choice.
More than likely there are also people from the same studios that get contracted to work on many anime working on this show as well, as in-betweeners and such. It’s extremely common for Korean and Chinese animation studios to contribute to both Japanese and Western shows.
Most anime with shiny, complex character designs are animated incredibly poorly, anyway. There’s a reason why, say, Ghibli or Science Saru character designs tend to be just as simplistic as this show’s, and are likewise animated beautifully. The animation here is on par with any respectably well-animated Japanese work. Let’s not be a weeaboo about it.

Adult Swim passed up on the pilot back 2019 for some reason. The show is based off of the short film called Scavengers (2016). They were expanding upon it at Adult Swim between 2018 and 2019, but for some reason Adult Swim abandoned it.@@ZeddisDead

You can totally see how it was this original idea at first then it starts becoming infected by the stupid writing that we've come to expect with male characters being unbelievably stupid and female characters being unbelievably strong with impenetrable plot armor, almost makes me regret Watching this last month ❤
Sometimes a show comes along that hooks you in from the jump. I’m glad I went in blind, I didn’t expect this to be as captivating as it was mind melting. Beautifully frightening, looking forward to future projects from the creators!

Well, I'm riveted. Please please PLEASE keep this up. I cannot describe my level of excitement for this with the style, the story, everything looks amazingggggggg. With so many studios pulling away from animation for anything but kids' shows, this is spectacular to see.
Finally! Some REAL quality animation with a serious tone. This stuff usually only exists in very small quantities on UA-cam or very obscure art forums. Nice to see it on a mainstream platform with better advertisement and production value. I hope this succeeds.

I remember the original short a few years ago. I never expected to see an actual series. This could be incredible.

This is clearly inspired from french classic s-f bande-dessinée (comic book) : the overall world, designs and ideas take inspiration in the work one of the most influential s-f designer, the unique Moebius aka Jean Giraud.
And it pleases me very much, I'm so glad we get to watch this in an animated series.

Saw this short back in like 2017 when it was just on Vimeo and loved every moment of world building and gorgeous animation. Had no idea this was even in talks to be a series and I'm SO stoked. Max is really bringing animation back after almost killing it and I'm so here for it.
Yup. Titmouse confirmed was in production for Max a few months ago. But they never announced a release date. Just like Uzumaki, it looks worth the wait.

@@brandonpollastri5757 I think it's just the older generations at this point, partially because they don't remember a time when animation was for adults (despite animation's origins) and partially because they are too solidified in their thinking to see how well the new trend of animation is able to tell good, mature stories. It may die out with them.

Please bring us a second season, and/ or more shows like this! The creators absolutely knocked it out of the park. Adult Swim must feel dumb for passing up on Joseph and Charles pilot back in 2019.
The artstyle looks incredible, love how dreamlike the world seems to be. Many shots reminds me of Moebius' artworks, even for the use of colours. I'll definitely wait for more!

The animators to this trailer have done an unbelievable job. I mean come on how could anyone else animate most of the stuff seen here? It’s amazing and I’m going to watch it when it comes out.
There have actually been quite a few animations that have done things like this. This film project has a TON of influences that I recognized JUST from this trailer. For instance: The 1988 Japanese animation film _Akira,_ as well as 1991's _Æon Flux_ just to name 2 examples.

Just finished binging the show in one day. It's so beautiful, frightening, imaginative, and has amazing characters who act like real humans. 10/10. I cannot say enough, please watch.

I just finished this show and it’s one of the best things I’ve ever seen. It so perfectly balances the beauty and horror of a natural world beyond our understanding. The environment and creature design is immaculate. The characters are fantastic. No notes

I will actually get a max subscription for this. Every animated thing that comes out looks so similar, but this looks like one of those short film festival shows you’d never see as a full series.

This is giving old school MTV/Adult Swim and I'm all for it. Shows like Love Death Robots is great at showcasing amazing artists but Im always left wanting more with many of those shorts. Hopefully this means more great, long form animation in the future on all streaming platforms

Fans and production companies seemed occupied these days with fighting over whether decades old franchises should remain exactly the same or change minutely to meet the times. The fact that fresh amazing new work such as Scavengers Reign is still being created seems like just a footnote in the media press. Watching this trailer filled me with more wonder and awe than anything has from that endless assembly line of sequels and reboots!!!

i am so incredibly exited for this!! the scavenger's short film has been a favorite of mine since it first came out and i can't wait to see how they've expanded it into a whole series.
I used to have a Rain World OC, a boy who would live in a shelter community, and when he got older he would become a scavenger. This animation is VERY HEAVILY reminding me of the world i kinda created for him (it started to differ a lot from the original Rain World).
I hope it helps people to kick it and become creative, too!

Guys, I watched it completely. I think this is one of the best sci-fi series of the last decade, if not the best. Three stories are very subtly woven here, each with its own plot, its own difficult moral choice. Azi's homesickness and her attempt to adapt the environment to suit herself. The survivalism of the Cap and The Biologist, their confusion with the world, but Sam’s struggle for his sanity, for the common good. And, simply, the tearing Nietzschean self-destruction of Kamen, who feeds his Abyss with his demons in the literal sense of the word. The visuals are so harmoniously intertwined with the plot that even Jean Giraud with “Time Masters” could not have done better. The picture is so complete, so clear, as much as we lacked it in “Raised by Wolves.” There is Ursula’s silent existential question as she watches the birth and death of a baby in the forest, androids dreaming of electric sheep, the choice of young scavenger Charlie (sic, scavengers in a world of scavengers!) and a ruthless antagonist who dies in the throes of an absolutely alien and incomprehensible world for the human logic. The name of the ship, "Demeter", is also very characteristic. It’s as if the same vampires of the human race who want to remake everything for the human kingdom were brought into this untouched biome. Everything is very logically intertwined, unlike Ridley, but without Miyazaki’s pink-sunset happy endings, which puts “Reign” for me on the level of Strugatski “Snail on the Slope” in the Kir Bulychov “The Settlement” setting. My score is 12 out of 10. When you finish watching, you will feel as if you were taken out of a dream ball into the real world in the same old short animation on which the series is based.

It's like a mix of the plot of Lost In Space, the unique yet terrifying creatures and world like that of Made In Abyss, and cosmic horror and space psychological mystery elements of both Event Horizon and Solaris. I think this will definitely be a hit for sure
Gotta say Max has really been investing more into Animated series and I love it. I'm sadly in the UK so I may never get to see these but I hope one day they'll come my way

Started watching this, i can tell you that this anime draws you in. This is what i imagined a alien planet would be like; terrifying creatures, hallucination and all.
