    In this video I'll be discussing a design feature that some decks of cards have that allow you to perform incredible card magic without the need of difficult sleight of hand.
    It's called the One-way design principle and it allows you to quickly and easily locate and track cards of interest. See the video for a full breakdown on how this principle works. I also share a strong application for it which allows you to find a selected card under some of the fairest possible conditions.

      How much is the deck? I don't see on Kickstarter where to buy it? Thank You.

    Took me a little while, but I found the one-way on the Tally-Hos (better than the petals): There's a rectangle in each corner of the design. One of them (top-left in your video at 3:40) has a narrower space between the rectangle and the short-edge border. This is actually because the white border is slightly thicker here. It's pretty subtle, but if you turn one around in the middle and do a thumb riffle, it's easy to spot immediately. Looking forward to getting waves! Thanks for all the videos!

    Have a look at the middle circle right next to the top/ bottom. The distance between two petals are different.

      The middle circle has two lines the extend further on the top right or bottom left depending on orientation. Also the white circle has a longer straight diagonal line on the top right/bottom left. Easier to see side by side, harder to see when splayed unlike the corner.

      Yeah and how is that useful? You can’t see that in a spread or fan. The one way has to be visible in a corner

    To find the one way design, flip the cards like a flip book. Any differences will be easier to spot that way.

    The Tally-Ho Circle Back is the best one way back in my opinion.

    Am I incorrect in seeing a one way element in the center circle too? Or is it just the camera? Hard to tell with the optical illusion there 🤣

    • @52kards
      @52kards  2 роки тому +11

      Yes, there are subtle one way elements throughout the design, but it's most easily noticed in the corners.

  • @vignesh9220

    That is a clever one way design idea.
    It took me a while to find what the one way design is when you mentioned it for the first time, I did notice something in the middle but couldn't point it out and later I noticed that, one line shorter than the other.

    I think I spotted what made that third deck one way. The ring around the center icon has a directional spin. The feathers or blades or whatever it is supposed to be is curved 21 direction so if the car was slipped the direction would be the other way

    Those cards are different in the middle circle as well very easy to spot.

    The one way design of this deck was the first thing I noticed during the reveal. There as also two lines in the inner circle that stick out more than the rest of the circle in the bottom left top right depending on orientation.

    Great video! I almost forgot to back this campaign!🤦‍♀️(yes, I even had a reminder, but a bit of a COVID scare and some other health stuff thrown together makes my brain breakdown, a lot🤦‍♀️.) so THANK YOU for making this awesome video which, thankfully, popped up as a reminder so that I didn’t miss out on the campaign (just the early bird deals, which is totally fine since you have a great 2 deck option for those of us who were a wee bit slow getting to your amazing campaign!) Thanks for the great video and I’m a huge fan of the Mint decks (I’m also ashamed to admit that I had no idea, until this video, that they were made possible through Kickstarter🤦‍♀️ …so, yup, with that said, I’m just going to go crawl back under my rock now since clearly that’s where I’ve been living🪨🤦‍♀️😂✨🐇🃏❤️✌️)

    A good way to reorient the deck is to do a thumb fan followed by a one-handed close. Looks like standard flashy card fiddling that magicians do all the time.

    the thing with 1 way designs is that the differences are most likely on the edges or corners. my favorite decks are the fire bikes and those snitch on you if you look at the edges

    even with cards that aren't symmetrical, something i've done before, like with for example the riderbacks, is if you look very closely the borders aren't usually all the same width or thickness. so ill turn the cards so all the borders with matching thickness are on the same side

    • @123chapitres4
      @123chapitres4 Рік тому

      That's what I've also got on my side. I think this is what makes the difference.

  • @rays5163
    @rays5163 2 роки тому

    an interesting thing about your waves cards, is that i didn't look at the corners to see the difference. your pattern makes an optical illusion the makes it look like there are sort of diagonal bands of lightness and darkness. this might be a consequence of the corner being different and causing a sort of "butterfly effect" but what ended up happening is the bands are positions in different places and that's the difference i spotted in the pattern

    I like the design a lot and I am in for some decks but I spotted the asymmetry instantly, might be because of the work I do. To me the black corner is obvious. I will be interested to see if anyone else saw it instantly.

    I have a question, if i supported the project in the 24 hours when it started. Was I sure if i payed for 1 deck + the 1 dollar bonus deck, to get them? Because when I checked out, I saw that there was also a way that i don't get the cards...? Btw good job on the decks and explaining everything :)

    BYCICLE CARDS DO HAVE A ONE WAY DESIGN: if you look the borders you can actually see that one is thicker than the other! Check it out!
    So, if you put all the thin borders on one side, and the thicker borders on the other, you have a one way design! Boom!
    Who knew that? 👇

    bicycle deck is one way.....look at the width of the boarder

    • @redblack8414
      @redblack8414 2 роки тому

      Boarder width varies from batch to batch on Bicycle decks. They are not made with the same precision they were made a century ago. One deck may have a one way back and another won't. Sometimes it is difficult to see the difference in the boarders width and it can be risky to rely on that during a performance. If you look in Greater Magic (published in 1938) you will see that there was a ''natural'' one way back on all Bicycle decks in those days. It applies only to bridge size decks if I remember well.

    • @artmclellen4611
      @artmclellen4611 2 роки тому

      @@redblack8414 I assume that if you have your deck you perform with you know which is which. I have bridge decks that are not one way so the best thing to do is know the deck your using....LOL and what is the fun of a one way deck.... I had rather use there deck and slight of hand that people don't know.

  • @fanthomans2

    I'm not sure this is a subtle enough one-way design. With the four cards, it seems rather obvious, that one of them is facing in the opposite direction. Of course, an amateur wouldn't notice it, that's true.

  • @RootinrPootine
    @RootinrPootine 11 місяців тому

    ‘Lots of tricks” such as what? Even if you search “one way” it will be used to mean all the same card deck etc, I can’t find a single trick based on this principle.
    And yeah of course I made one up for myself, but I’m a beginner and should get some guidance. I think the deception here has to be protected which is how you should design the effect. If you need to look at all the backs to find their card, they are going suspect it’s a trick deck even if they don’t know how it works. Yeah?
