The Bee Gees, Miami interview, 1987 RARE

  • The Bee Gees in a very relaxed, open and honest interview with Aussie Richard Wilkins, as they "guest VJ" for Australian MTV.
If you've ever wondered what it's like to be caught in a Gibb hurricane, be sure and sit through to the end as they spin their web and leave "Dickie" mesmerised.
All the film clips have been removed, so WMG and UMG should be happy about this version. The songs referred to can be seen all over UA-cam, anyway. I own nothing except the 25 year old video cassette I originally recorded this on.
Copyright to a bunch of other people.

As someone who was involved in radio for many years programming music ...as far as I'm concerned I'd like to thank Barry's Mom and Dad for creating four boys who are the epitome of class, humor, generosity and good 'ole "down-to-earth" humility. I fell in love with all four boys... impossible not to...just four angels creating miracles here on earth.

Their success is a classic example of perseverance, hard work, determination, and not to give up on your dreams. They have humble beginnings. I was mostly touched by their revelation that when their father lost the band because bands were losing popularity then, then became a photographer but still money was tight, Barry, Robin, and Maurice at such young ages started performing in different venues and eventually were getting paid for their performances which then allowed them to support the Gibbs family. Then, their father became their manager while their mother took care of their costumes or wardrobe for their performances. I love them all even more because of this!

(Not my favorite cup of tea,.. but that's just my personal taste.)

Interesting fun interview. I suppose when they do interviews as the Bee Gees, they only talk about the things they have done as the "Bee Gees". Or they have a really bad short term memory problem, because when they are talking about what they were doing the last few years, they totally forgot to mention that Robin and Maurice made and released three albums in 1983, 1984, and 1985 that produced some hit singles, and Barry helped write most of the songs on the last one in 1985. They must have had some secret handshake for what they would and would not talk about during interviews. LOL (Robin always ready with the funny - Freddy Strauss!)

The Strauss thing where they're bouncing back and forth off of each other was I think an excellent display of their comedic capabilities. +Gloria Dean Being umm....politely 'asked' to leave the country at such a young age didn't look good for any of them, the little heathens! Barry and Rob had their myriad offenses of shoplifting and arson. Though Rob was the main perpetrator, the fire starting wasn't just him; Barry was in on it, too. Thankfully they soon channeled all of that energy into singing. I think Mo must have been a little angel as a kid, though :)

❤ Great interview. I love Robin's humor. I've been in love with the Bee Gees and their music since I was a teenager. I'm now 66. There's no one that can compare to them. They're so blessed. I miss Mo and Robin so much. Robin's voice is mesmerizing. I listen to them everyday. ❤
