- After waiting for what feels like an eternity, FEAR FACTORY has finally announced their new vocalist, Milo Silvestro, who of course is replacing the beloved longtime frontman Burton C. Bell. Today, we discuss the events that have transpired throughout the band's tumultuous history that led to band leader Dino Cazares needing to find a replacement, as well as the demise of the band's classic lineup of Burton, Dino, Christian Olde Wolbers and Raymond Herrera.

also add to the FACT Burton's voice was broken and basically gone. he had more issues with cleans, and his harsh vocals were weak. he had many great years though where his voice was strong. Milo is great, going to be interesting seeing and hearing his first gig

In my honest oppinion,idgaf what the drama is about or was.I have gotten to meet Burton and Dino years ago for World Industrialist Tour 2012 at the Launchpad in Albq,NM.Hearing Burton's voice and lyrics in FF in general,he cant ever be replaced.Burton will awlays be the way,he is the industrialist,and without Burton,there is no FF and can never be Mechanized.I still have respect for "FF" now and will always be open to hearing Dino's new work and everything.I will always have equal respect for Burton and Dino because they are the Fear Factory's one and only industrial pioneers!!!! I support them both equally and they both will always be one of my top inspirations into becoming a soul of a new machine!!
I've seen them at the Launchpad and The Sunshine. Sad that my favorite band just made me dislike Dino.

FF has been my favorite band since high school back in 96 when I discovered them. I hate the idea that Burton is gone but if it’s true his heart wasn’t in it. Then it’s for the better. If this newly reformed FF gets back to the story we all loved Man vs Machine then I’m down. I’d rather new tracks drop then a band of this caliber to go down in history like that. They inspired soo many and started a whole thing and soo much more.
Fear factory is no more without Burton. He's not a great singer, but his lyrics are the whole theme of the band.

He's not a great live vocalist, but his role in the band was definitely critical to it's success.
Burton was a great singer, now his vocal cords are damaged from his singing style as well as having been a smoker.
I think it's silly for people to criticize Burton on his voice when you probably have no idea the wear and tear that does on your throat, then go and do that for over 20 years and let's see how your voice would sound doing shows multiple times in the same week. The shit ain't easy

Milo is a good vocalist and I can hear why Dino chose him to continue FF with. I got into metal music around 1995 and Demanufacture is still one of my favorite albums. It just had something magical. I loved that FF lineup and I'm happy I saw them live in the late 90s. It's a shame that greed can destroy so many good things. Some parts of the machine are just irreplacable.
Great video. But NO way Archetype is better than Obsolete or Demanufacture. Gene The Atomic Clock shat on the experience with the band in one of his interviews, they gave the man tinnitus.

Obsolete and Demanufacture AND Soul of a new machine shit all over Archetype. Drones is elite, as is Human Shields and Cyberwaste is good too. All of Obsolete is elite or good. All of Demanufacture is elite.

Is Burton getting paid royalties going forward? I see they are reissuing albums on vinyl and I hear FF music all over the internet these days. I want to continue to support both sides, but only if BCB is getting his fair share for his past efforts.
I'm sure I've heard that reissues or remasters are often used to freeze out certain parties from royalties. If that is true and also Dino is now the sole owner of the FF name, then it's possible he is reissuing to gain full control of royalties.

Raymond and Christian hate Burton now though. Ever since he stabbed them in the back and sided with Dino in 2009.

Burton had every opportunity to come back to FF, Dino asked him multiple times, politely enough, that his place was with the band.. but he wasn't going to fucking beg.
An ultimatum was laid down, Dino continues with his career of iconic riffs. End of.

I've always said that Demanufacture is #1 and Archetype #2... depending on the week, I definitely feel like I can get more into Archetype though.
Dino got kicked out then came back and called it "his" band and ruined everything. Burt is Fear Factory and his new single is fantastic. Fear Factory without burt sounds like a cover band.
Yeah I dig the new single and wasn’t expecting it so it was a surprise. Fear factory is my favorite band but haven’t listened to the new singer or have any opinions on it. I doubt I will. Very much looking forward to new stuff from Burt

I don't blame Dino for wanting to keep FF going, at his age it's easier to keep making money off the brand then to start all over again. It takes too long for new bands to get going and get a following, and promoters don't care who's in a band they book by the band name.

The new singer is good but Burton C Bell is the heart from fear factory and cant never replace i saw the live with the album release from Mechanize and Genexus show was awesome never forget both album was great but after the release the last album i was exiting but and the end disappoint its really really bad without burton i will give milo a shot but Fear Factory is Burton C Bell

I would love to see Herrera and Wolbers focus on a different brand. Hire a new bass player and another guitar player for some guitar duo like MEGADETH. I’d love to see Howard Jones in the mix.
That's too bad Burton and Dino had a falling out, that much time only reveals more and more truth so I respect Burton was pretty confident about moving on.

Sometimes time heals too, I've gotten back in touch with friends I didn't talk to for years - it happens, people change.
It’s crazy to think all the songs with amazing n some of my favorite ever vocals lyrics, that burtons heart wasn’t into it and he came up with that stuff thinking”it’s good enough for my position” he’s my favorite singer ever, very very influential in a lot of top tier amazing bands that use gutteral growls/screaming and clean, melodic vocals like killswitch engage, slipknot, in flames, and as I lay dying just to name a few
Bands are now business and people come and go. Fans just gotta take it and either deal with it or move on. Nothing we can do about it and I don't care. I just like what I like and I'll pay for what I want to pay for in music and or tickets. If not then I won't. As far as Fear Factory I'm all in with the new singer and I've been listening and watching all the interviews and it's cool. As far as I'm concerned Static-X, Dope and other bands are all on the same page so some people in the Fear Factory members might have some mixed emotions as well as fans and yeah it's a drama mess but right now it's all working out and it sucks the old members are out. What you see is what you get and we'll see what comes about it in the next few weeks. If it's a success they we all know Dino was right and legit but it if not then the other dudes have a point. Time will tell but I'm rooting for Dino as he's a business man as well as Edsel from Dope as they all know what's up.

I'm pretty sure Byron Stroud and Gene Hoglan left at the same time. Gene actually said it was the one band he would never join, he only joined because Byron said they needed him to make it work. The two of them were waiting to get called into the studio, only to hear the next album arrive with programmed drums. They concluded that Burton and Dino just wanted to keep all the money, and left together
Dino and Burt were deep in lawsuits and going broke, and Gene expected to be paid more. They couldn't afford him.

This is a shitty day being a longtime ff fan burton c bell was always the voice of the band and I know bands do it all the time idk if ill be able to listen to them with a new singer and it sucks cause they always put out insanely great album after album now it's pretty much over without him behind the vocals

"Demanufacture" and "Archetype" are personally in my top 25 albums of all time... but I hate the dick messaging from Burton regarding "Fear Factory is a business." I remember when that came out, I basically tuned out of their stuff moving forward. We all work to make money... but telling your limited consumer base (which we all need to be honest... has been limited for the past 15 years) that this is just a business model is NOT an attractive thing to say unless you're producing the best results consistently.... something FF has struggled with.
Dino definitely has some issues as well but I just remember that Burton has a habit of giving up often and sounding like a dick VERY often. I guess this comment was the thing that soured them enough for me to stop tuning into their newer stuff.
I agree, those albums are the best and Archetype remains one of my all time favorites.
I've really tried to wrap my head around the legal situation involving the band. From what it sounds like, Burton reconciled with Dino and then tried to start a band under the name Fear Factory which obviously you can't legally do when you have two other members, Olde Wolbers and Herrera still technically a part of that band. Since it became a stalemate, Wolbers and Herrera said "Okay fine you can continue the band without us but the only way you can do this is by paying us royalties since you are profiting from songs we've written". Then Burton filed for bankruptcy making it so he didn't have to pay them royalties anymore but they came after him again because he can technically still start Fear Factory up again and continue to make money. That's all I can decipher from everything that happened but it's a shame how much the band was torn apart by drama and stupid shit people weren't willing to reconcile over.
Burton settled into that position because that's all its about for Dino. It's all about him, it's all about his vision, it's all about his success. I mean why do you think he continues on with this Frankenstein of an effigy? His riffs aren't even that great anymore, either. FF died when Burton left.
I mean just look at the difference in the character between the two of them. Burton is kind, soft spoken and humble while Dino's a pig (ask female fans that met him), overconfident and arrogant. It's clear to see who is the real issue here, and it's not Burton.

Burton C. Bell is a narcissist. Burton was at fault for like 80% of the Fear Factory drama, but he tries to make it out like he's the victim. Burton intentionally didn't mention the settlement with Raymond and Christian when he filed for bankruptcy.
Gene Holgan was replaced by a drum machine. Mike Heller didn't join Fear Factory until like 2015

Yes, I agree, first in 2002 he complained about Dino, and quit because he don't like Dino anymore then suddenly in 2009 he's got "Change of Heart". And I understand why Christian and Raymond don't want to be part of this anymore. Than on 2021 Burt again leave because he hates Dino. I've met Dino, speak to him, he was nice to me, maybe he got good Day, but if someone is Jerk and You quit, You don't come back, people change, but not drastically.
I grew up seeing FF. I've seen all line ups. Its good to see them back. But I can't forget when I was a kid of 16 and Dino was a total dick to me and my friends outside the back of Roseland in NY.

Haven't listened to Fear Factory since Obsolete. Demanufacture was there best by a long shot for me. Didn't like Archetype. Fear Factory is just a tribute band now.

Burton was a monster! He was amazing, but I’ve seen where he needed to stop and heal his voice. It’s sad. He didn’t take breaks I feel to properly take care of that amazing voice. What they did without Dino was amazing, just love this band. I hope he will come back even if not fear factory. All the music is amazing, but I would love to see Christian write some stuff with Dino, but that will never happen.

Everyone is allowed to have their own opinion... But I just can't see how Milo could take on writing lyrics and bringing soul to the music in any way near what Burton did. So far it just sounds like a bad cover band when they're playing live, remember he is a "fan" first and foremost. It doesn't matter if he is described as a "multi-instrumentalist" or is coming from a "musical family", that doesn't equal originality or that he is a better musician than anyone else. So far he is trying too hard to be something he obviously isn't and might never be. Only time will tell if this works or not but I have a feeling that the shoes were too big to fill after all.
He es a better vocalist than burton and can hit the notes live without autotune. He delivers whats on the record without faking or mimicing, so I'm happy and can't wait to see them live.

Archetype is a perfect example of how good Burt C Bell is with out Dino. If Milo was anywhere near as good a writer or front man with out doing covers, we would of heard of him already. Milo is just a worker that Dino can control.

Let me say that I really wanted to like fear factory for like 15 years now. But Burton c bell in my opinion was the problem and he was a trash singer
Fear factory is dead. Without you Burton, Christian and Raymond fear factory is dead.
The new singer has the voice to do FF justice, if his melodic voice isn't quite there, the lyrics however can't be replaced, and Bell's lyrics made FF.
Had the chance to see them live last month and I can tell you FF is in a far better shape now compared to 2016 when I saw them at Bloodstock. Burton is one of my favorite metal singer but he just can't sing live since 10 years and everybody seems to ignore that fact.

I disagree. While it is his band, it's not the same without the original lineup. They were all equal contributors to what led to their success. I mean what would Dino have without Burton's powerful lyrics - songs about killer robots and whatnot? I mean come on.😄

Sometimes a sole member is the band like in Tony Iommi in Black Sabbath, Dave Mustaine in Megadeth, etc. But in Fear Factory you had a era where Dino wasn't in the band and now refuses to acknowledge that time period.
I dont feel the new bassist. Always in shorts and white socks xD. And lets be honest, bass in FF it is almost inaudible. Only in parts where the guitars shut up. Guitar in this case.

With all due respect Fear Factory was carrried by Burton since their imception. He kept the band alive when Dino decided to jump ship for nearly a decade. Dino had his lawyers underhandedly streal the name Fear Factory. For which Burton took the high road. Now we have some arrogant lowlife highering and firing members in a rotating staff of used and abused musicians. I love Fear Factory and all the eras. Aggression Continuum was originally called Monolith with entirely different art. I'm glad the record is out..Sounds incredible but any future work i have no interest in. Also I'm far from alone when it comes to hardcore Fear Factory saying good riddance!

Honestly, Dino has always done scummy things, but Burton's voice is also shot. He would've probably gotten the boot eventually because he just can't perform live. It's all been badly handled.
