Thank you so much for this tutorial, Leslie! I've had my hammer handpiece for over a year and really wasn't sure how to use it or what points to use and couldn't find any useful information out there. This was SOOO helpful to me! :)
Thank you for sharing! I always admire that you focus on the entire piece, not just the top. Even though we couldn't really see the bottom of the ring, we can still notice that extra detail. BECAUSE YOU are such an EXTRA woman!! 💞💕
Gorgeous and well out together tutorial! I have the Universal flexshaft and just ordered the eurotool hammer handpiece. I hope it's compatible and works just as well!
Hello Leslie, Wonderful teaching video! Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Can you tell me which Foredom machine (SR, LX, etc), which flexshaft (key?) and which hammer handpiece you are using in this demonstration video?
I love your channel I am very admirer yours I dedicate myself to the jewelry crafts but you are a great artist I am Spanish I do not understand the videos very well but I am in love with your works a big hug from Spain
Am I correct in seeing that the bezel is higher than the table of the stone? Perhaps that's why I have difficulty setting and having the finished setting look neat and tidy....I need to increase the height of my bezels a bit? Your response appreciated!
Before setting, The girdle of the stone is just beneath the outside top edge of the bezel -the table of the stone should be visible over the top before setting. The stone in this video is a rose cut and does not really have a table. And also the stone is already set in the video so the bezel has already been pushed over the sides I’m simply using the hammer handpiece to add texture to the decorative part underneath the bezel.
What is the wax/clay you have holding your piece of jewelry in the vise? I assume it's too minimize the vise's teeth biting into the edges of your jewelry (an issue I'm sadly familiar with haha). Thanks!
For textured pieces i usually put it in the Tumblr ( look for my pre-video call Tumblr talk) but you can also go over it with a lighter compound like Dialux blue from OTTO FREI With a Muslin buff then ultrasonic cleaner
I have been on the fence about buying a foredom but I want a hammer handpiece so bad that I think I'll be ditching my current flexshaft (which I didn't spend much on) but those foredom can be so expensive!
I've recently purchased the Badeco hammer hand-piece and i find it gives me much more control. You can use the foredom hammer attachments on it too. I prefer the Badeco to the Foredom. But the foredom is more affordable.
This is a great and very informative video, Leslie; thanks! It would be very helpful if you would list out the part names and numbers in the description, though, with links to where they can be purchased. Also, how do you avoid scratching the stone when using the pumice wheels?
Hello Wendyannh, I did list part numbers and even screen shots of them. Links often change so i don't list them as the become obsolete. Go to www.ottofrei.com and type the part number in the search field and they will come right up for you. i recommend using "Fine grit pumice wheel" Or even "extra fine" craytex wheel which is softer than the stones you are setting. For this video i set an Aquamarine. It is is 7.5 to 8 on the Mohs scale, so it is a durable gemstone for jewelry as long as it is treated with care to protect it against scratching and hard knocks. You would not want otto use a polishing abrasive that is harder than your stone or you will scratch it for sure. Always check the Moh's scale for your stones hardness. Any mars left behind by the wheel are removed with the rouge (polishing compound) applied after. take care though not to keep your wheel on the stone too long, just around the outside edges to get the bezel smooth is all you need. An ultrasonic will clean up all the polish and leave you with a beautiful sparking stone! Thanks!
I don't give a compliment easily when it comes to jewellery but I have taken a look at your website and my Lord! You're a true jewellery artist.
One Of You Aww! That’s so kind!

I've never seen the diamond tip before. It makes beautiful texture! Beautiful ring - thank you for the video.
Thanks Leslie. I've been wanting to take this class and I so appreciate your COVID-19 special. You've made something good out of this difficulty time.
Thank you for sharing! I always admire that you focus on the entire piece, not just the top. Even though we couldn't really see the bottom of the ring, we can still notice that extra detail.

I'm actually teaching an online class of the fabricating this setting and will be posting it soon!

I use the foredom sr flex shaft. The hammer hand piece and tip used are shown with item numbers at the beginning of the video.
Thank you, and amazing work!

Thanks, Leslie, great video!
excellent video as always so thankful you share with us youre an awesome chick
I am use the end of the tweezers for sitting the gemstone in particular this type
With 18 gauge metal??
You must have some very, very strong tweezers and hands!
No it's a lot easier I am use it for any gauge
But you need focusing a lot because many gemstones are very crisp
like the Emerald and turquoise
a sharp graver would work too!
Nice job👍

Just saw that you answered my question very early in the video haha sorry about that

How did you polish the textured portion? When I polish I tend to push the pattern out
For textured pieces i usually put it in the Tumblr ( look for my pre-video call Tumblr talk) but you can also go over it with a lighter compound like Dialux blue from OTTO FREI With a Muslin buff then ultrasonic cleaner
Leslie Kail Villarreal thank you I’ll try that.
Can this hammerhandpiece be used with softer stones like turquoise?
no
Thanks for sharing!

YEs i have the badeco on and it is very easy to control
I want this how much please!👌
Did the diamond fall out overtime? I've heard eutotool quality is really bad. Excellent video
I did not use any euro tool brands in this video and no my stones never fallen out
This is a great and very informative video, Leslie; thanks!

30 seconds in an you insert an ad?
Andy, Goodle decides where the ads go. Not me! They are getting worse with this. never used to be this way!
it is simpler and easier to do that
i leak that hammer hand piece
