As good as brisbane were during 2001, we really could have won the grand final if a couple of things went our way (ie the weather and having a fit team) Also, letting brisbane kick a goal just b4 half-time was so critical. I believe if we had of gone into half-time with a 20pt lead and kicked the first of the 3rd, we would have won.
Fit team or not, Essendon just weren't good enough. The final margin without looking at the amount of scoring shots by each team doesn't reveal the full picture. Brisbane had 11 more scoring shots than Essendon, and would've won by much more if they were more accurate infront of goal. If Essendon were so good, then a few injuries wouldn't affect them to that extent.
Great teams can play through injuries + weather and still win. Brisbane had to play in unfavourable conditions in the '02 GF (rain all day) that suited Collingwood, had players going down injured/playing through injuries all game, had the umps giving Collingwood a free ride and still won. Brisbane went into the '03 GF with their whole midfield under an injury cloud and pounded Collingwood to the tune of 50 points. Brisbane showed themselves to be a better team than Essendon and also exposed Essendon as a bunch of chokers who needed everything to be perfectly suited for them if they were to have any chance at winning the flag.
14:13 classic Brisbane from its premiership era, bash the ball forward at all costs and run in numbers to the forward line.
The Lions know how to wreck your day. The final qtr turned loopy Lloyd from super snipper to super sook in a mater of minutes. PRICELESS.
We needed to win this one...
One flag in a period of regular season dominance what a bunch of flogs Essendon are!
quite the celebration.

I remember Essendon players stating publicly that they wanted to create a dynasty the previous year……Bahhahaha!

🏆🏆🏆🦁🦁🦁
Just little turnovers and wrong decision making in the 3rd qtr cost us the game
Essendonwobbles
Injuries and weather cost the bombers simple as that they were not a better team
tiffstahs & god played a conspiracy against the bombers to put em against a “mediocre” team that won 16 in a row and they still lost. Huge injustice😂
