You sir are a gentleman and a scholar! I figured I'd fix an old Xbox 360 I had hanging around the house to surprise my son on his 5th birthday. After I found that little piece of plastic in the drive I knew that had to be what was wrong. Your video helped make a kids birthday, as he will be getting this with kinect set up in his room!
Appreciate u taking the time to do this vid for us. Can't find anyone who wants to be bothered with console repairs. It's about £60 for a recon 360 now prob about $100 ish n my kid is getting the new next gen for Xmas anyway. Other youtubers have blagged my head with the jibber-jabber. This was simple, no messing about.

This is the exact problem my 360 slim is having. I'm going to take it apart to see if the limit switch is the issue. Thanks so much for the walkthrough!
GameTechUS - Ok, so there wasn't a broken piece of plastic, but it WAS an issue with the limit switch. I fiddled around with it for a few minutes, and it was still popping the tray out. I hit the general area with a blast of canned air and it worked. Seems something was physically keeping the switch from going into the "tray closed" position. Thanks so much for your video that lead me to solving my problem! :D

Omg I had that issue years ago. My sister laughed so hard when she’d hear me pressing it 20x before it would take it 😂😂😂. I have the Xbox one now but I might go back and take the 360 apart for fun.
I had the same problem but couldn’t identify any issue after opening up the console and the drive. After completely disassembling the drive and playing with that switch it did get fixed. No idea what the problem was but playing with the switch s ems to have helped, so many thanks for the video :)

tried that and it doesnt work. still gets jammed and the laser lens doesnt pop up to read discs.

on my hitachi drive i noticed the white slider that serves as the switch to detect tray opening and closing does not go back all the way, thanks for giving me the idea to look there
the xbox has lot of stupid problems, like the unreadable disc error(caused by the white disc magnet coming seated).. great video!

ive tried cleaning the rubber band, realigning the gears with tray, and still tray wont open; seems like tray doesn't communicate with xbox: bc it doesn't make a stuck tray sound! any ideas????

Yeaup i think its gud to go after all that ejecting back n forth. Gud deal. Mines just ejects with the controller not with the fingure. But oh well at least it opens n closes. Gud job.

Typical modern junk . I would pay 500-1000$ for a console that would at least last 10 years but no, why have that, you can pay 250-300$ and get the "same" thing. As I recently learned by repairing some PS2 controllers, everything gets ruined if a small piece of plastic fails. How about RROD which my old Xbox 360 that only lasted 2 years had? Or YLOD, it all comes down to some incredibly cheap solder balls which practically costs nothing at factories in large qunatities. Why use the good quality leaded solder for the vital parts when you can save 2 cents on ROHS compliant lead free solder right? It's because of this thinking that I might not buy any console anymore you know, it's just to much for a tech nerd for me to take. I can go on with this rant for hours but to few people care.
