nice beach finds. finding a bonnet is on my bucket list. Haven't been to the ocean in 2 years so your virtual beach walks are a pleasure and gives me ideas of beaches i'd like to visit. Thanks for taking us on your treasure hunt along the beach.
I love Vase shells, but they are certainly more of a rare find in FL because they are a Caribbean shell. I think people find them often in the Keys! Thanks for watching!
Nice! Love the background music. I spent some time on Jupiter Island in the early '80's. I was more into snorkeling then instead of shelling. I'll bet it's changed a lot since then.
The places you visit are beautiful and I like that you capture all of the surroundings and not just the sand and shells. The music you select for each episode is very relaxing and pleasant.
Hi there! I am native to that area. Used to go there a lot as a kid. Never heard of a distortion but how cool! Occasionally you could find a helmet or Scotch bonnet too. We also had A LOT of luck at a beach just north called Hobe Sound and Juno beach. (Blowing rock) Happy shelling!
So much fun! Back in my home front again. Love all the finds especially the scotch bonnets, the orange scallops, lions paws, and the imperial Venus clams. Great video. The sunrises are so beautiful. I never take them for granted driving to work every morning. Florida has the best! 🤗🐚🐚🐚🐚
WA state, beautiful finds. Nothing more soothing to the ears or eyes than the sound of calm ocean waves upon the shore. Spectacular view! Thank you ♥️👍♥️
Hello, my friend! You had quite a day shelling on Jupiter! That was one giant bittersweet! Can't believe you left the sea urchin, though. I'd have found some way to get it back home safely! I wrapped some fragile shells in Kleenex once and then packed them into the Kleenex box that was then wrapped up in the center of my suitcase. They were well-traveled shells, as they went to Vancouver while I went to Tennessee! They made it home quite safely, wrapped in softness as they were. Maybe you should remember that trick, love, as far flung your adventures are! Thanks for the lovely day on the beach! I love our adventures together, dear friend. Love from The Lost Mermaid Those were some beautiful Scotch Bonnets! Nice lion's paws!
They are such a nifty little shell. I have actually found quite a few while shelling on FL East Coast. Would love to see another East coast trip, or Keys trip from you! 😀 Happy Shelling, friend!
@@solaceinshelling6552 I am DYING to go to The Keys (next big trip) but in the meantime I'm trying to decide where to hit on the East Coast. North Palm was pretty sweet but it's 3 hours one way! Was worth the scotch bonnets last time so maybe I'll just take my chances. Thank you for watching!
Wow. Those are too cool. I loved that thorny scallop. I'll have to watch again to confirm the name. I most likely would plant myself in the middle of a shell pile and go through everything. Thanks for posting your finds and beautiful beach scenery.
Only just found your channel yesterday tbh. But I absolutely love how soothing it is. I can't wait to find a nice colorful lighting welk, some scotch bonnets, and some banded tulips.
Great show! Thank you for taking us with you. I would love to be walking on the beach picking shells. What's the difference between a sarith and a auger? Do you know?
Great question! Even though, they may look similar, Cerith and Auger shells are two separate species. Generally, Cerith's are a little more "knobby" than Augers where Augers are mostly smooth. There is a cool article here that speaks to both species - nsufl.libguides.com/shellidentification/augers Thanks for watching!
Beautiful area isn't it? Were you at Blowing Rocks Preserve? The shelling is usually better at Coral Cove. There is also a coral reef that runs along the beach. 😊
Hello, I walked up to the preserve from the causeway, though I was there so early there were hardly any other beach goers. I'd love to work myself into doing a little more snorkeling for this channel...we'll see! Thanks for watching!
Backtracking in time on your videos - what a beautiful spot! I didn’t see if anyone asked you about the holes in the sand at 2:09 and 2:28. Are they created by beach critters?
Interesting observation - my guess would be some sort of crustacean like a ghost crab or similar. These types of animals will often live in little sand holes. Thanks for watching!
Great video!Sunrise was so pretty the colors in the sky.Loved the thorny scallop.I just love the bittersweet shells. We went to Jensons beach and the shells were just laying in the sand.No one was picking them up.Found my first bittersweet shells there and nice scallops and imperial Venus.I shared the shells with my daughters.U got so excited about the small lion paw.Have a great week!
Scotch bonnets r so pretty as well as the orange shells…u have a great assortment and as always beautiful scenes of the ocean and music..thx for sharing…
Hello! When I arrived it was still totally dark because it was so early. I parked on the side of the road and used one of the access points near the southern end of the island - thanks for watching and happy shelling!
What a perfect start to my day, thank you. I always feel so chilled once I’ve watched and those were beautiful finds 😊😊 Thanks for showing me a bit of sun here in frosty 🇬🇧
Great video!! Always enjoy watching and unwinding to the beautiful scenery, music and amazing views you capture 🥰. Keep up the great work!! Definitely jealous of all the places you explore 😉.
I really enjoy your videos and the clear, correct names you show of the shells you find. Thank you! One request/suggestion, please mention the name and artist on your background music in your description like other channels do! It would be very helpful for people who like such relaxing musical selections for their quiet times and for meditation. Thank you! Oh, how I love those long shots of the surf and sky! I was born and raised beside the Gulf of Mexico and spent many happy hours beside the Atlantic's door. It makes me happy to hear the sound of the waves once again. Thanks once more!
This is great feedback, and many have asked for information on the music I use in my content. Any song I use comes through my online subscription to Musicbed.com, but I will focus on sharing out the selections in the descriptions! Thanks so much for watching!
@@solaceinshelling6552 Thanks so much! I really enjoy the peaceful selections you use. It's like your music sings along with the gulls, the wind and the waves! Keep up the good work!
Sunrise is my favorite time to be on the beach. I’m definitely not a morning person, but somehow when I am at the beach I totally forget that and can’t wait to get out there. Nice finds you got there. I actually screamed No!!!!! when you put back that gorgeous little urchin that was almost clean, though. It was so pretty. That’s one of my goal finds. 45 years of shelling and I have never found one. *sigh* one day!
It's so interesting so see how certain deep water shells like Scotch bonnets, Bittersweets, Lion's paws, Imperial venus clams etc. are a lot more prevalent on the eat coast than the west coast of Florida. I know they live in different water depths in different parts of the state, but it is still interesting how their abundance changes drastically depending on the beach. Great finds! That Caribbean Vase was awesome even if broken, and those were indeed some very nice Sentis scallops! Thanks as usual for sharing!
I think this is what's so great about Florida shell collecting - the overlap of the Carolinian and Caribbean Zones! It's much more difficult to consistently find great shells on the east coast of FL, than on the west coast of FL. Thanks for watching!
Overall, a great day at the beach! Love those imperial Venus clams. I often vacation in the Pawley’s Island SC area and for several years didn’t know the “lucky Pawley’s shell” was really an worn imperial Venus clam. I still collect them, along with anything else which strikes my fancy. Hubs is raising a bit of an eyebrow at my shell collection… Don’t care! Keep bringing us great videos!
Another lovely walk along the beach with you. Im looking for shells too as you pan the camera. I wonder sometimes why you don't take the urchins or sand dollars you find? They're lovely too. Just a thought I have. I enjoy all your videos. Your editing, the music and showing us the names of shells you find and the sound of the ocean. What fun to go for a bit of a swim too. I look forward to your walks and finds. I really like the surface of the lions paw scallops. So cool. Thanks again.
Aww thank you so much for all of the wonderful feedback! Honestly, I am not a huge fan of collecting sand dollars and urchins for taking home. I don't even usually take home most of the shells I find(only those that are great specimens or species that I haven't found yet previously) - I just don't have the space in my apartment anymore, haha! I will always try to show any cool things that I find on the beach though(including urchins/sand dollars). Thanks so much for watching!
Love love love! I love it when you're in my home state of Florida! I need to plan a trip to Jupiter Island now. Lol. Where were you at exactly and when was this filmed? For me the water is way to cold to swim right now. Lol. That beach looked empty. I love that. ❤️.
Hello, it was still very much night time when I arrived so I parked on the side of the road, near the southern end of the island after the causeway. This was filmed a few months ago in the fall. Thanks for watching and happy shelling!
I loved seeing what the east coast of Fla has to offer. If you like bittersweets you should try the emerald coast of Fla. I went in late April and they were everywhere.
I have always wanted to get up to the panhandle area. Unfortunately, I have to schedule in all of my filming while I visit family in Florida a couple times a year so it's usually a tight schedule - I'll make it up there soon! Thanks for watching!
Nice finds! looks like not much out there. We were on Bathtub Beach on Hutchinson Island and walked around for about 4 hours today- didn't find much. Looks like certain areas have a lot more shells than others even on the same coast.
Hello! Very true, there was not really a lot on this day. There's definitely no magic beach to find shells and some of the best places can often be hit or miss, from my experience. At the end of the day, you still get out to enjoy nature and exercise while looking! Hutchinson Island is on my list of places to go so we'll see! Thanks for watching!

With all the pollution in the gulf there are probably a lot fewer living creatures there and consequently fewer shells than there used to be.
