  • We visit the beautiful island nation of St. Kitts and Nevis to do some exemplary Caribbean shelling! The unique geography here allows you to shell and beachcomb in both the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea in the same day.
    We'll beach hike, do some snorkeling and look for some awesome mini's at the world famous Cockleshell Beach!

    FUN NOTE: After re-watching my footage from finding mini's at Cockleshell Beach(11:55), I realized I missed SO many! Pause frame at this section of the video and you can search through to see what other shells I missed here!

    I really enjoyed this one since we've been to St. Kitts, twice, on cruise stops and even spent a few hours at Cockleshell beach the first time in 2013. Unfortunately it was the one rainy day of that cruise but I still loved it and found some great smaller shells. And I know exactly what you mean about all of the ark shells and turkey wings! Second time in 2015 we spent the day at South Friar's Bay (Shipwreck Beach) after going to the fort, which we loved, great views and it was just beautiful that day. Great shelling snorkeling in the water at Shipwreck, even some nice sand dollars out further which you have to free dive for. Only collected one and got it back in one piece. I'm addicted to your videos now, so relaxing and enjoyable to watch. Congrats on those beautiful finds and thank you for sharing!

      Wowsah, it sounds like you have had some great adventures at this location!
      I had to do a little pre-research before heading out on the day trip here from the cruise. I noticed that Turtle Beach(the other beach in this video), seemed to be a little more remote and within walking distance of Cockleshell. Both beaches were amazing - Turtle was more of the wild Atlantic, and Cockleshell was the calmer Caribbean.
      I am so glad to hear you enjoy all of this content!

      @@solaceinshelling6552 if we get back, I'll have to check out Turtle Beach, would love to get back to Cockleshell as well for those views on hopefully a sunny day since I love getting pics too. Unfortunately Carnival Cruise Lines apparently no longer allows beach collected shells to be brought back on their ships. When we cruised last, in 2015, they were allowed. Looking forward to watching more videos, hopefully this week. Thank you again!

    Awesome footage! Great finds! I was wondering about your shoes. Are they water shoes or just regular tennis shoes and if they are tennis shoes how do you dry them out after your shelling trips? 🤗🐚🐚🐚🐚

      Hello! These were water shoes that I brought with me on the cruise I went on in December last year for this trip! I purchased them on Amazon, but unfortunately they broke by the end of the trip!

    Love shells! When I was a kid, 60 years ago, I used to find beautiful abalone shells in California. Do you ever find them?

    Curious as to why you did not keep that massive shell?

    • @solaceinshelling6552
      @solaceinshelling6552  2 роки тому +1

      Hello friend! I have quite a few large helmet shells already in my collection. This particular Helmet shell was very nice, but it would have weighed my suitcase down quite a bit, when traveling back. Additionally, the location where I found it was about a mile away from where I started walking initially so it would have been a bit of a hassle to carry it back across the rocks on the Atlantic side.
      Thanks so much for watching!

    How do know the difference between an arch shell and a turkey wing?

    • @solaceinshelling6552
      @solaceinshelling6552  2 роки тому

      Interesting question! So the "Zebra Ark" Shell is the more formal name for this particular shell, but it is also very commonly known as a "Turkey Wing". You'll hear it referenced as both! Thanks for watching!

    Are there restrictions on what you can take out of the country, besides the obvious live shells?

      Hello friend! I can only speak to my personal experience, but I have been to a few island countries in the Caribbean and I have never had an issue packing my shells neatly in my suitcase and getting them home!
      Happy Shelling!

      Hello friend! I have so many of these in my collection, I really didn't need another. Additionally, this shell was super heavy, and it would have been difficult to carry it all the way back down the rocky beach.

      Thanks so much for watching!
