  • The engine on the old sidecar is making a horrid noise - it turns out there is a serious clutch problem. Once the clutch has been rebuilt, Peter discovers that the final drive hub is now shot to pieces - can it be fixed?!

We have the loveliest supporters and followers of our UA-cam channel 'It's a Wonderful Life'.
We remain committed to provide our content regularly, and of late, to increase the frequency of our vlogs. We have and continue to receive, many kind requests, to send gifts, or in some way help us financially with our channel.
We have given this a great deal of thought. Whilst 'Patreon' and 'go fund me' are out of the question for us, we feel the 'buy me a coffee platform' (or for us, a cup of tea!) would be a great way to do this, especially in light of its ease of use and non ongoing commitment.
Any contribution towards maintaining and hopefully enhancing our channel is very much appreciated, but never expected.

Just curious, it is possible that the bearing cage failed and allowed all of the bearing balls to roll together. You may not have "lost" any balls. Check the number of balls in the replacement bearing, or evenly space the balls apart for a visual check. Cheers, Jim

Poor Minnie glad you are looking after her :) I can't imagine how you know all this about vintage motorbikes how very smart you are Peter I wonder if those bearings just flew out while riding. It's a good thing you take the time to make sure everything is working and get needed repairs done.

You and me both! We are pleased that we caught the problem in time - as you say that would be catastrophic if it failed out in the field!!

Interesting to watch you repair the gear box. It brings back memories of my youth when my then boyfriend was always tinkering with the engine and gear box on his Triumph Tiger 750. Happy days 😁

I have finally caught up to your videos. Only discovered your channel a few months ago and so went through all the chateau vids and now up to date with your farmhouse. I absolutely love the content on your channel and look forward to seeing more. Cheers from Vancouver Island.

Funny about the bearing in final drive. Years ago i had a 1970s version of these and the bearing at the rear of the engine was making a noise. When I took it apart the bearing had collapsed and the balls were nowhere to be found. Luckily it was a standard bearing which I bought at a local supply house. I did the repair and rode the bike after that but never found what happened to the broken pieces. Obviously I had the crank out and looked in the engine case but nothing there.

hi, wow what a motorcycle to be restoring, I wonder if the last time the drive shaft was open was on manufacture? if so it might explain the lack of BB's ? I'm sure I've seen you and your good lady at Maximums?

What a change from your usual content but I for one found it most interesting. I don't think I have ever come across such an unusual motorcycle drive train arrangement before. I think it was a shame that the pressure plate retaining screws had a straight slot as opposed to an allen key head which I would have thought would have allowed them to be tightened to a higher torque. Then again, it has lasted for eighty years!
