2014 GMC Sierra - Silverado 1500 engine belts replacement. AC comp, vacuum pump and serpentine.

- In this video I'm replacing the serpentine, AC compressor and vacuum pump belts. GMC recommends replace them each 100k miles. My truck has 140K and the AC compressor belt already failed although I learned later it was due to seized compressor. Anyway, this and easy and inexpensive maintenance I will not miss again.

Great video! Thanks for posting this. Was able to get all 3 belts replaced on my dad's 15 Sierra using some of the tips you showed here. For anyone wondering, you can do the vacuum pump belt from the topside too. You have to put the belt over the pump and get the zip tie on pretty much by feel, but it's not to hard to do. I had all 3 belts replaced in about 45 mins, and I had never done a stretch belt before. The old belts looked pretty good still even though they were 10 years old. He got quoted a crazy number by the stealership to do this. For anyone nervous about the stretch belts, don't be. Follow the steps in this video, and you'll have no issue.
I'm glad you did it yourself and that the video helped you. You saved some money to the big boss and made him proud, (win)^2.
My truck (2014 GMC Sierra 1500) has 139K miles and the belts have never been changed. Been thinking about tackling them within the next couple weeks, and this video helps A LOT. I just had to change the thermostat last week, so I might also tackle the water pump, alternator, and coolant temperature sensor while I'm there. Thank you for the great video!
I’m glad you found it useful. Thank you very much for the comment.
Thank you so much was struggling at first until this video!
Glad it helped!
Best video I have seen for all three belts, great job
Thank your for your comment!
What a great video!!! You saved me like $250!!! Thank u so much
Glad I could help!
Great video, with great views from top and bottom! Liked the rope derailer technique. Appreciate that you used correct terminology as well (unlike those that call the "A/C belt" a "serpentine belt". It is not a serpentine; it is just a belt.). Adding tensioner, water pump, and alternator changes would have been nice to show, since belts were off already. Thanks for stating all of your tools also (3" extension, 1/2" ratchet, 24 mm socket)!
Thank you for your comment, I really appreciate it.
Fantastic video. Great use of the Ty wraps to help guide the belts in place while rotating the engine.
Thank you for your comment.

@@BUTTEWORKS ended up taking it to a local shop and the chirping sound that I thought for sure would be a pulley ended up being a lifter problem. The shop recommended a new engine for $14,000. So I picked the truck up with three new belts installed and brought it to my work to let a couple of friends look at it and sure enough when you remove the oil filler cap the chirping gets louder proving that it’s something internally. Any thoughts? Thanks again
@@Ransome2501 No idea, difficult to diagnose without seeing the truck. But it the problem are the lifters I don't know why the want to change the entire engine. Doesn't make any sense.
Hey was`nt there any issue to rotate the engine counter clockwise ? you made all look very nice and simple, congrats,
Not at all, it really was easy.
GMC Manual doesnt say to check belts till 150,000. My vacuum pump belt just snaped at 103,000. It makes brakeing near impossible. Do yourself a favor and check/replace your belts (sooner rather than later) if I had been in tight traffic on the highway it would have been bad. (note I check my belts about every other oil change this just happened and I didn't catch it soon enough)
I read in a service manual, not the user manual that GMC recommend the replacement each 100K miles. Mine were ok at 140K miles except for the AC one that snapped due to a seized compressor. For the price and time invested in the replacement you could do it each 50K regardless of the condition just to be safe. I'm glad you were not in a bad spot when the belt broke off, it really could have get you in real trouble.
Did changing the ac compressor belt cause your ac to seize? Or was it already seized? Don’t want to change if it seized due to new belt. Thanks
It was already seized. I thought the belt broke and change it to later find out it broke because the compressor was seized. Should have thought about that when I first saw melted rubber on the pulley.
Great video. Thanks for the help. What was the mileage on the truck when you changed them?
My truck had 140k when I change the belts.

Why did you change all 3 belts...was they making any squeaking or chirping noise?
No but the AC broke off because the compressor seized so since I had to change that one, for 50 USD I better replace the other two, since they were 9 years old, 150K miles. Manual say replace every 100K.
I thought you can't rotate clockwise? I thought it must be counterclockwise only??
The engine rotates counterclockwise if you look from the front so I was tightening the nut. However, that nut is so tight that you could turn the engine in the opposite direction and not get it loose.
Any problem with ac compressor after you replace the belt ? Seen many gm compressor lock up then belt shredded
Yes, compressor was locked up. Actually next video will be replacing it. It broke that new belt right after AC went on.
Any update on new ac compressor?
@@hnekcivic Yes, video coming up this week. Job done already. Thank you for following up.
👍👍👌👌
I wish he would say if you have to throw it in neutral or leave it in park before you start rotating the crankshaft. Done watched 6 video’s with this method but no one says if it had to be in neutral or park
I did it in park.
Why none of the belts you've listed the Amazon links stated " does not fit my truck " 2014 silverado 5.3 V8?
In my case it say "it can not confirm it matches". I believe there may not be enough information for the Amazon algorithm to confirm 100% match. I have the 5.3L V8 and they fit and work perfect.
So you can crank on that bolt left or right
I read that counterclockwise you loosen. I'm pretty sure that bolt is super tight so your could turn the engine counterclockwise, but I prefer not to try. Also, it is easier, at least for me, to crank it clockwise while doing the job.
i got a quote from the dealer
1075 for all three
Hahahaha as you can see you can do it for less than $100. Go ahead and good luck, super easy job.
He said vacuum pump. Is that the Power steering belt ?
No I meant vacuum pump for the brake booster. Thus truck has no power steering belt. Thank you for checking the video.
