Blue Rodeo have been one of my favourites groups over the past 30 years. They have a unique sound that’s a blend of folk , blues and country. They have two lead singers with quite different voices depending on which song you’re listening to. This song had Jim Cuddy. The other singer is Greg Keelor ... his voice is more in the vein of someone like Bob Dylan. Very different sounding between the two. They have too many good songs to mention , but “Lost Together” , “Diamond Mine” , “Trust Yourself” , “Rain Down on Me” , and “Hasn’t Hit Me Yet” are few of my favourites. Huge fan of your channel btw.

@@patswanson2870 As we've read from other Americans who post, many have heard of Canadian bands by being in border states or cities like Detroit and Buffalo. Often some groups are very popular in certain areas ie BTO in St Louis, RUSH in Cleveland etc before they hit the big time. By the time BR came round we were well into the era of music videos and as I have posted April Wine was one of the most played bands on the opening day of MTV. Videos were easily transferable for exposure. So, one person posting can't speak for everybody.

I’ve had two favourite bands in my 56 years on this earth, neither of which can be pigeon-holed into a single genre and both of which have had prolific, legendary careers. One is Rush and the other is Blue Rodeo. I only made it to about a dozen Rush concerts, but I’m well past two dozen (and counting) with Blue Rodeo.
Rush gave us 19 studio albums. Blue Rodeo has so far given us 16. Both have written songs that are deceptively complex but so appealing to the untrained ear. Both were also best heard live and both have a cross-cutting catalogue.
There are some differences, though. There are two singer songwriters in Blue Rodeo, who have long been regarded by critics and fans as Canada’s Lennon and McCartney. You’ve just heard Jim Cuddy, so it’s only fair for you to now give a listen to Greg Keelor. The entry-point for listening to Greg would be Hasn’t Hit Me Yet. I have a couple of live recordings on my “channel” (such as it is) but there’s a dope official studio version video as well as professionally produced live versions too.
PS - bands like Blue Rodeo and the Tragically Hip have a devoted following in the US border states, just as far south as the waves from radio stations in Montreal, Kingston, Toronto, Hamilton, London, Windsor, Winnipeg, Regina, and Vancouver could carry their music.

They're popular because they are GOOD! Are you not seeing this American reaction? Americans who say that they will add them to their playlists - without being forced? Our Canadian content rules only ensured that Canadians were given an opportunity when before that time even our very own radio stations were biased towards everybody else - with the thinking that Canadian can't be that good. Blue Rodeo has a pretty deep catalogue. The two songwriters (Jim Cuddy & Greg Keelor) have a very Lennon/McCartney vibe. Cuddy writes & sings a lot of the more straight-ahead, melodic stuff while Keelor is a bit trippier. If you want to hear more, try "Hasn't Hit Me Yet", "Bad Timing", or "Diamond Mine".
If you want to be pleasantly surprised by another Canadian band that's big in Canada, you have to try Sloan. 4 singer/songwriters who are heavily influenced by a lot of great rock & pop bands from the 60s-80s. Their songs are catchy as all get out, and a lot of them have crunchy guitar riffs that go hard. I recommend "If It Feels Good Do It", "Money City Maniacs", "She Says What She Means", or "The Lines You Amend".

Aug. 31/97 was a Sunday and I had forgotten to 'un-set' the alarm on my clock.....so at 630 in the morning, I awakened to the news of Princess Diana's death and that news bulletin was followed by this song. For me this song is forever connected to that event. And Jim Cuddy is as nice to look at as he is to listen to. Long-time fan.

Saw them play at my college in the early 90's. Pretty good band. They didn't get much airplay south of the border it seems. This is probably their best tune.

There are SO many good songs to listen to by this group & the 2 lead singers give different styles to the types of songs they perform as well. Lots of their great ones to listen to are already listed here in your comments section already - (I will just say that well, I like ALL of their songs & "5 Days in May" - is one of my favourites, I find the video a little disturbing in parts for that one. I know that I must be missing the message but the song itself is great.)

2 videos ago when you did "Moonlight Feels Right" and mentioned that any song with the word "moon" in it turns out to be a great song, I was going to comment that any song with the word "Blue" in it is also a great song. You should do something like this as a "marathon". All songs with the word "Moon" and all songs with the word "blue".
    Blue Bayou (Linda Ronstadt)
Ocean Blue (a beautiful song by ABC)
Okay, hold on to your nipples, because you're prolly not gonna wanna do this one, but "The Color of Blue" by... ... S Club 7! There I said it! You will have to trust me on this one, it is a great song (I think it was written by Stevie Wonder).

Blue Rodeo is a Canadian equivalency to Bob Seger is to America, the passionate story tellers who can unwind and deliver a heart felt passionate ballad with Country Rock influences, a pop single, or just kick ass rock from time to time. Now Seger early on was far harder then Blue Rodee over all, but once in a while they will unleash the Rock beast within them go up tempo and have at it. Both beloved in their Native Lands et al.

In terms of rock with minor-to-moderate elements of country, I think The Eagles of the early-to-mid-1970s were the best fusion of that sound and still are. I don't think you have done too many Eagles songs, if at all, but I also know they are notorious reaction channel blockers. Already Gone is a great example of country rock. Take It To The Limit is another favourite of mine by them.
When party time guitarist Joe Walsh joined them in the late 1970s they became more rock oriented and put the masterpieces Hotel California, Life in the Fast Lane and New Kid In Town.
Speaking of Joe Walsh, his solo hit Life's Been Good So Far is a fun song with great music and funny, self-deprecating humour by Joe.

I have checked a few days ago to see which of some of our biggest artists you have done & I have BEEN SHOCKED by how CRIMINALLY little you have done. For that reason I will include some for you to check out - & yet it will only be a small portion as the list IS extensive!
Jeff Healey - watch his live performance of "See the Light" - posted by him from "A little Night Music 1988"
He is BETTER than Stevie Ray Vaughan! I know that those are fighting words BUT he can do everything that SRV can do but there is a LITTLE CATCH:
Jeff Healey IS BLIND & PLAYS THAT WELL AND
Jeff Healey LEARNED TO PLAY WHEN HE WAS ALREADY BLIND - (as he had cancer in his eyes as a baby)
(Jeff Healey - who already succumbed to the cancer he fought for all of his young life - was a Canadian STAR!)
Other Canadians to hear (& some were so big that maybe you HAVE heard them):
Shania Twain - "Man, I Feel Like a Woman", to start - (she is mirroring Robert Palmer's - "Simply Irresistible" with this video)
    - besides having a big career she has ANOTHER claim to fame:
it is said that SCIENTIFICALLY - she has the "perfect" attractive face
Robbie Robertson - "Somewhere Down That Crazy River"
Trooper - "Raise A Little Hell"
Amanda Marshall - "Beautiful Goodbye" - followed by the VERY important "Birmingham"
    - despite the importance of "Birmingham", you should still get introduced to Amanda Marshall with "Beautiful Goodbye"
Spirit of the West - "Home for a Rest"
    - for a 2nd style "If Venice is Sinking"
    - (This is NOT "New Orleans is Sinking" by "The Tragically Hip" which I think you did? react to ?)
Kim Mitchell - "Go For A Soda" - (the video is VERY, VERY cheesy though!)
Crash Test Dummies - "Superman's Song"
Great Big Sea - "Mari Mac" - (this is an OLD, old song that travelled from Scotland, to Ireland & then to Canada & this group has made a very "new" arrangement of it)
    - for their "regular" style try "Going Up" or "Ordinary Day"
Doug & the Slugs - "Tom Cat Prowl"
You MUST know - Bachman Turner Overdrive (BTO)!, but if not (it seems impossible that you don't)
    - start with "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet"
Dan Hill (start w. his duet with American Vonda Shepard) - "Can't We Try"
You MUST also try Colin James - who has SWITCHED genres, experimenting with different sounds & styles
    - he has done Big Band/Swing, Pop/Rock, Blues, - & a mix of these together & then some sort of country kitchen American Blues (this last style only was never really successful here in Canada)
    - start with - "Five Long Years" - his pop/rock side
Gowan - "When There's Time For Love"
OR start with earlier 80s Gowan - "Strange Animal"
Sarah McLaughlin - "Aidia" - (I'm Not 100% sure that this is completely the correct spelling)
Sass Jordan - "Make You a Believer"
Barenaked Ladies - "If I Had a Million Dollars" - this is their 1st song & Canadians loved their quirkiness
    - (which was changed a lot once they had an American producer. In the "end" they did a happy medium.)
THIS - is JUST THE STARTER LIST!
Hoping you will continue to give some of our Canadian artists a try. ♥
