It's really hard to get a good idea of the breadth of Linda's talent by listening to one song. Linda is one of the greatest vocalists in popular music of all time. I had the great honor to see her not long before she retired and she was incredible.
Please delve into the Linda Ronstadt rabbit hole. You will not be disappointed. She has an incredible voice and wow's everyone. She can sing anything and do it better than the original singers...much to their chagrin.
A songwriter's champion. "Writers would crawl on broken glass to have Ronstadt wrap those pipes around their tunes". Some songs, like this, she rescued from the oldies jukebox - other songs were exposing new songwriters of the era like Zevon, Lowell George, Karla Bonoff, Henley and Frey, and Elvis Costello among others. Linda was a very special songbird.
Imagine not really hearing of Linda Ronstadt, then hearing her sing live on a TV show, without autotune, and still underestimating her. She’s not just a true artist, she’s a legend.
Everything she touched..., every genre, every collaboration turned to gold. The first lady to sell out stadium concerts, Linda Ronstadt is one of the most respected singers in all of music. Do yourselves a favor and follow the suggestions for future reactions. She mastered it all.
You have to check out Linda's version of Desperado, also recorded by the Eagles. Both great, but Linda's rendition, the female perspective gives it an emotional ache. Beautiful to boot!
Linda Ronstadt is one of the best female singers & can sing any genre from ballads to country to rock & even opera. She has had so many hits such as "Different Drum", "When Will I Be Loved", "Long, Long Time", "Poor Poor Pitiful Me", "Desperado" etc. Ronstadt also did two great duets, "Somewhere Out There" (with James Ingram) & "Don't Know Much" (with Aaron Neville). The Eagles were her backing band till they went out on their own & she has covered a lot of their songs. Also love her collaborations with Dolly Parton & Emmylou Harris.
She seemed to do a number of duets with Aaron Neville for an album she released in 1989, "Cry Like a Rainstorm, Howl Like the Wind". One duet I like off of that is their rendition of "When Something Is Wrong with My Baby".
That's an all star band right there. Andrew Gold on guitar - he was a regular guitarist and arranger with Linda as well as a solo artist. On the drums is Richie Hayward, regular drummer for Little Feat. On the congas is Skunk Baxter, guitarist with both Steely Dan and the Doobie Bros. Kenny Edwards was Linda's regular bassist and did session work with a dozen other artists. Check out the studio version, it has a different vibe but it's still a banger.
Clydie King on backing vocals. Andrew Gold on Lead guitar. Linda surrounded herself with the very best musicians LA had to offer. She could sing anything, quite literally.
That guitar player is a late friend of mine named Andrew Gold who had a great career himself. Thank You For Being a Friend which was later the theme for The Golden Girls.
A true queen of music, and the most versatile voice, man or woman we’ve ever seen. I have been praying for the day when I see you react to something by her she was never a songwriter, but a great song interpreter and if you do the Rolling Stones Tumbling Dice and then right after it do Linda’s version you’ll be amazed. Tom Petty is great and I love his song “the waiting” but Her version is the best version I’ve ever heard, even including Tom’s. I feel the same way about Elvis Costello‘s song “Alison” and Linda’s version
God sent Linda Ronstadt down to Earth to cover every song ever written and show everybody exactly how it's done. My college roommate had that Farrah Fawcett poster on the wall. I had Linda's.
Gents, this doesn't even scratch the tip of the surface of her voice. Her older stuff when she started out with Stone Poneys is legendary. She's the main reason The Eagles got their big break too.
Blue Bayou is a MUST!! Silver Threads and Golden Needles is another good one to check out. You should also check out LA Charreda. Her voice is simply amazing.
I just watched this. She was so young/pretty back then. I love the studio much better and I car sing with this all the time. I have her Greatest Hits. She is so good!!!!!
Those two are the goats! She didn’t write songs, just covered anything and made it better , even classics by stones, Neil young, Elvis Costello, buddy holly, eagles ( her original band)
Linda owned the 70s and you will never be disappointed with any of her songs. She’s as fabulous live as in the studio! ❤ The Eagles started out as backup for Linda and she helped them get started…I believe that was Andrew Gold playing guitar with her on the performance.
The lovely Linda no one can touch her, she was one of the top female artists of the 70's and 80's, she did this live, no auto tune artists don't perform like this anymore. She was a pure musical genius who explored multiple musical genres and was a smashing success in all of them!
One of the best showcases of Linda's range and power is Blue Bayou. The live performances on the internet are unbelievably good. Her voice could fill up the arenas she played.
THe greatest female vocalist of my generation. Check out When Will I Be Loved -- the opening line is a clarion call. I've been cheated...been mistreated...when will I be loved. THen listen to some of her softer ballads. She's even better when she's being tender. It is beyond sad that she can no longer sing at all because of Parkinsons disease.
I am 71 years old and still have a crush on one of the GREATEST female voices of all time! 😎❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Oh yeah the Eagles where her back up band, before she gave them her blessing for going on by themselves!
The guitar player is a man named Andrew Gold. You may have heard Thank you for being a friend? He wrote and sang that one. Lonely Boy was another hit he had in the mid 70's both are worth a listen!!!!!!!
Midnight Special is another reason the 70s was the greatest decade in music. The stadium shows like World Series of Rock, even some of the smaller venues had some big name artists. If there was a time machine everyone should visit the 70s. You would not be disappointed!
I remember the Midnight Special! If you weren't old enough to be out that late on Saturday night you were watching the Midnight Special followed by Don Kirshners Rock Concert.
An amazing thing about Linda is how she stretched herself as an artist, she could have easily stuck with the formula but she fought to record an album of standards with Nelson Riddle which was highly successful and turned into a trio of albums - she then recorded an album of Mexican songs that were favorites of her father - also highly successful and led to two more Spanish language albums. Not to mention her light opera with Pirates of Penzance.
Linda Ronstadt is a musical jewel. When you listen to this again and you should, listen to the studio version so that you can hear some of the other nuances that don't translate in The Midnight Special version. The Midnight Special is freaking awesome but listen to the album too. The band is with all the people who are in it. Andrew Gold is also in there and you should listen to his song Lonely Boy. There is so much musical talent squashed onto that stage.
Great reaction. To get a taste of her diverse discography listen to “Ooh, Baby, Baby,” (Motown), “La Charreada,” (Spanish), and “Desperado” (Eagles, who were her first backup band) and “What’s New” (American Standard “Thanks gentlemen for this reaction.
My daughter sang this at a high school talent show several years ago. She got a huge applause! It's a great song and Linda Ronstadt is so talented. She's been dealing with an extended illness the last few years and had to give up performing. Hope you react to more of her stuff and her early band, Stone Poneys. She sent many men's hearts aflutter in her day!
Love this love version of this song. The band was amazing, and Linda killed it. Check out Blue Bayou by Linda as well. You can see why she is an amazing artist.
Powerhouse voice and the greatest female singer in history in my opinion. In her early days she had Glenn Frey and Don Henley the two founding members in her band. She could sing the phonebook and it would be a hit.
Jeff "Skunk" Baxter on percussion (guitarist for Steely Dan and the Doobies). Andrew Gold on lead guitar. I used to have her poster - was the original Farrah Fawcett poster, the one boys held up with one hand.
Thank you for doing this reaction. Those of us who traveled with Ms. Ronstadt on her musical odyssey are thrilled to see her get her due by a new generation. You really did your homework, too. Her family history is quite interesting and impressive. Hope you'll revisit Ms.Ronstadt and react to her performing "La Charreada" with Mariachi Vargas at the Grammys.
Absolutely love Linda Ronstadt, dig deeper into her catalog and will not be disappointed. I live in Tucson Arizona where she is from and she is an incredible singer. "Just one look " is my favorite. So glad you reacted to her. ❤
2 of the founding members or The Eagles were in Linda's first band, the Stone Poneys, Glen Frye and Don Henley. I first saw her when I was in the 4th grade in Tombstone AZ. Her high school choir Catalina HS from Tucson was touring Arizona schools doing concerts. She sang two solos, she's the reason they were touring. She was incredible live.
This is the most beautiful female voice on the planet. I don’t know how people go without knowing who she is. Better late than never. Please check out her live version of “Down So Low”. Enjoy 🌺✌️ Linda’s hit/pop songs were covers. But in my opinion her best material was never played on the radio but is contained in her numerous albums. She sings ballads brilliantly but most didn’t make it onto the charts. 🌸
Wolfman Jack was the biggest radio DJ in the 60's and 70's. He's an icon and everyone knew tge Wolfman. He was featured in George Lucas's first big hit, before Star Wars, 'American Graffiti', with Ron Howard and Richard Dreyfus
Check out the Offenbach, Germany 1976 concert film. This was her best lineup. Andrew Gold, Waddy, Kenny Edwards, Michael Botts, Dan Dugmore, Brock Walsh. Truly the best of the best! (BTW, that’s Jeff Skunk Baxter on congas! Tremendous guitarist who founded Steely Dan and Doobie Brothers!)
So glad you reacted to Linda Ronstadt! She is a national treasure and has dabbled in so many musical genres. Despite her father's German last name, her family on her father's side is also of Mexican ancestry and she grew up listening to mariachi music and Spanish folk songs around the house. I recommend the following hits by Linda to possibly react to down the road: "Blue Bayou" (there's a killer live-version official music video), and "I Don't Know Much" (a beautiful ballad with R&B singer Aaron Neville) and "La Charreada" (The Rodeo ... a Spanish-language mariachi song that shows off her vocal range ... there's a live performance of this song, too, on UA-cam) and "Desperado" (a cover of the Eagles song ... the Eagles were Linda's backup band before they went out on their own) and "I Can't Let Go" (a 1980 new wave cover of the Hollies' hit from 1966. Graham Nash of Crosby, Stills and Nash was a member of the Hollies).
In my estimation, Linda Ronstadt is the most successful cover artist of all time and a great singer. But her remakes don't compel me to forget the originals e.g. "Tumbling Dice" (Rolling Stones), "Living In The U.S.A." (Chuck Berry), "Poor Poor Pitiful Me" (Warren Zevon), "That'll Be The Day" (Buddy Holly), "When Will I Be Loved" (Everly Brothers), etc..
That's quite a back up band for Linda. I believe that is legendary session musician Skunk Baxter on the bongos, and Andrew Gold on lead guitar. Gold had some big 70s solo hits. Thank You for Being a Friend and Lonely Boy are classics. Of course she always surrounded herself with great musicians. Her early 70s back up band had these two unknowns named Don Henley and Glenn Frey. :)
She also won a Grammy for best non-english album with her Marachi Band latin album which to this day is double platinum and the highest grossing non-english album ever, her record company wouldn’t back her to record it so she did it on her own against their wishes, respect
This was in the top 5 pop and R & B charts and she had a country top 5 at the same time, 'I can't help it if I'm still in love with you". Rare accomplishment.
Ronstadt's backup band in this Midnight Special performance was chalk full of well know musicians...Andrew Gold (Lonely Boy...check it out) along with Waddy Wachtel on guitars, (Waddy Wachtel guitar has played Stevie Nicks (and many others) for decades and Jeff "Skunk" Baxter of Steely Dan fame on the bongos. Oh Sherlie Matthews and Clydie King singing background makes this particular performance pure perfection.
It could be argued that if it were not for Linda Ronstadt, there likely would not be The Eagles.
And John Boylan, her manager.
That is absolutely correct. A few of them are backing her up. The eagles have always said she was a big part
On the money my man
The Midnight Special was the best - you had to be good - no studio hijinks, no auto play.
Or Jackson Brown
Her "Blue Bayou" is simply outstanding. Thank you gentlemen, enjoy your work
Midnight Special when I was a teenager meant you always had entertainment on Friday nights 😁
Cannot believe that there are Americans that do not know this great singer
It's really hard to get a good idea of the breadth of Linda's talent by listening to one song. Linda is one of the greatest vocalists in popular music of all time. I had the great honor to see her not long before she retired and she was incredible.
Linda also helped Don Henley and Glenn Frey before they formed the Eagles...they played backup for Linda.
Please delve into the Linda Ronstadt rabbit hole. You will not be disappointed. She has an incredible voice and wow's everyone. She can sing anything and do it better than the original singers...much to their chagrin.
Yes, her cover versions of tracks of my tears, desperado, Tumblin dice, heat wave, ooo baby baby, and countless other songs sound so great!
Linda was an amazing singer. Great songs.
You have to check out Linda's version of Desperado, also recorded by the Eagles. Both great, but Linda's rendition, the female perspective gives it an emotional ache. Beautiful to boot!
you're right at that time no one else did sound like her and that was part of her appeal
Linda was the only female artist in the 70s that could sell out stadiums!!!!!
I wouldn't say the "only' but no one else could do it as consistently or as universally as her.
What about Dolly?
You will be crushed by Linda's ballads: Blue Bayou, Long Long Time, Hurt So Bad, Tracks of my Tears (cover), etc
Linda is the GOAT
Don’t forget her other great duet with Aaron, ‘All My Life’.
She seemed to do a number of duets with Aaron Neville for an album she released in 1989, "Cry Like a Rainstorm, Howl Like the Wind". One duet I like off of that is their rendition of "When Something Is Wrong with My Baby".
And is still, to this day, has the best selling non English album in history of US, her Spanish language album.
Whether it's a cover song or not, when Ronstadt sings it, it's hers. I love Desperado and Blue Bayou the most. Thanks, guys.
The pride of Tucson, Arizona. ¡Viva, Linda!
You MUST listen to more of her!!!!
My fav artist of all time! Dolly Parton said of Linda..."Linda can sing anything!" And she's not wrong!
Tustoned Az, She's all we got, Her and Jerry Brown, years, ago, Love Willen❤
She is the GOAT imho. The diversity of her body of work will never be duplicated.
She just loved to sing.
That's an all star band right there. Andrew Gold on guitar - he was a regular guitarist and arranger with Linda as well as a solo artist. I wondered if that was Skunk, it certainly looked like him. I was just surprised to see Skunk, a great guitarist, on congas.
@@stevedietrich8936I know, right?! Me too. I was like, Skunk?! Nah. Sure enough...🤷🏻♂️
Dream band if I ever heard one goes to show you how much they respected her.
I saw video one time of Skunk taking over the drum kit at Doobie Bros concert while Keith Knudsen was singing the encore.
Don't forget Clydie King and Sherlie Matthews singing backup.
And now you two? Linda rockef the 70’d soooo hard
One of the great voices of all time
Clydie King on backing vocals. Andrew Gold on Lead guitar. Linda surrounded herself with the very best musicians LA had to offer. She could sing anything, quite literally.
You missed Jeff Skunk Baxter on congas.
That guitar player is a late friend of mine named Andrew Gold who had a great career himself. Thank You For Being a Friend which was later the theme for The Golden Girls.
Linda paved the way for many other female artists to follow. A part of true Americana. Well, damn.
A true queen of music, and the most versatile voice, man or woman we’ve ever seen. I remember watching this! I used to watch Midnight Special every Friday night at 12am!
One of the GOATs for women artists! After Karen Carpenter - the best Alto voice! Her documentary is worth the watch!
I just watched this. She was so young/pretty back then. I love the studio much better and I car sing with this all the time. I have her Greatest Hits. She is so good!!!!!

The guy on the congas is Jeff "Skunk' Baxter who was a founding member of Steely Dan, then went on to join the Doobie Bros.

Willie Nelson once said that if you were a guy and you weren't at least a little in love with Linda, there was something wrong with you.
"A Different Drum" is one of my favorites of hers, she was definitely a giant in the 60's and 70's.
*"Different Drum"
The guitar player is a man named Andrew Gold. You may have heard Thank you for being a friend? He wrote and sang that one. Lonely Boy was another hit he had in the mid 70's both are worth a listen!!!!!!!

Saw this woman in concert twice … saw her on Broadway, as well. I was one of the many star-struck mopes who loved her!
Linda could sing every genre, and she did! Flawlessly
I remember the Midnight Special! If you weren't old enough to be out that late on Saturday night you were watching the Midnight Special followed by Don Kirshners Rock Concert.
In the 70s you had to be great LIVE. Linda Ronstadt really had the greatest voice, you'll love more of her songs.
Linda. An awesome voice and heartthrob of the '70s. I can attest.
No one did it better! Her Spanish language music is also phenomenal!!
This younger generation sure are missing out. Thank God for these reaction channels. The best music is from Linda's time
No one else has had the crossover success like this lady. She had hits in virtually every genre… This one is my favorite from her

Willin. OMG

voice of an angel and the Queen of the covers
HER Blue Bayou is awesome. Big, BIG rabbit hole!
Absolutely love Linda Ronstadt, dig deeper into her catalog and will not be disappointed. I live in Tucson Arizona where she is from and she is an incredible singer. "Just one look " is my favorite. So glad you reacted to her. ❤
Make no mistake, this was her song after she recorded it.

“Skunk” Baxter kills those bongos!! Linda was amazing in the 70’s. Willie Nelson said if you didn’t have a crush on Linda, you have never met her!!
Linda covered and sang many genres extremely well.
This is the most beautiful female voice on the planet. I don’t know how people go without knowing who she is. Better late than never. Please check out her live version of “Down So Low”. Enjoy 🌺✌️
Linda’s hit/pop songs were covers. But in my opinion her best material was never played on the radio but is contained in her numerous albums. She sings ballads brilliantly but most didn’t make it onto the charts. 🌸
I had such a crush 😍 on Linda in the 70's!!!😊
About 99% of the teenage boys in America, I was one of them!
She shows off her voice in her Spanish language stuff. My favorite is "La Cigarra."
I see studio guitar legend Skunk Baxter who was also in The Doobie Brothers and Steely Dan rocking the Congas!
Fantastic range, resonant, powerful, skilled singer.
Nick’s “Stank face” from 8:01 thru 8:39 says it all.
Oh my! I love her. You should experience "Faithless Love". Sublime.
It kinda wrecks my brain that you didn't at least hear of her before this. Easy top ten female voice....welcome to perfection boys.
"Linda Ronstadt - You're No Good (Live 1976) [Reelin' In The Years Archives]" more amazing vocals 👌✌️
Ronstadt is a rabbit hole, for sure! wait until you see her Spanish stuff! She's amazing!
She started out as the singer for a group called "The Stone Ponies" the song... "Different Drum"
She can flat out SING!¡!!
In her documentary she says that she sang songs that she liked and connected to.
Skunk Baxster slapping the skins. One of the best guitar players playing bongos for you. Now that's how you do it.
That's quite a back up band for Linda. I believe that is legendary session musician Skunk Baxter on the bongos, and Andrew Gold on lead guitar. Gold had some big 70s solo hits. If my ex heard this song blasting from inside the house, he knew he'd best make himself scarce for several hours. He'd done messed up badly. 😂
If you want to be blown away do Linda’s Mariachi live performances, she’s unbelievable! Also, STEVIE NICKS is from AZ. You might’ve heard of her…
Yep, Stevie Nicks from Phoenix (1948) and Linda Ronstadt (1946) from Tucson.
I think Glen Campbell and Waylon Jennings are from Arizona as well.
@@markberryhill2715 I believe they both lived in AZ at some point, but weren’t born here.
I love that you guys are hearing this song for the first time!! A teen in the 70s, this song is FIRE! Thanks guys!
This was in the top 5 pop and R & B charts and she had a country top 5 at the same time, 'I can't help it if I'm still in love with you". Rare accomplishment.
She was the first artist to accomplish the feat, male or female.
Dudes! I own the ENTIRE collection of all Midnight Special DVDs. They are dope!
Nick, I loved the "stankface" that you had towards the end. That means it was good. Your reactions are what keep me subscribed!
Skunk Baxter was on bongos and he later played with Steely Dan.
and the Doobie Brothers, and did missile defense consulting with the Dept of Defense on the side.
She was very young here and became much more comfortable as she continued on in her career.
