Just for the record, this was one was recorded before the One Hit Wonder Marathon! Thanks 🤙
Considering the View are seeing Marathon through - I suggest "Jackie Blue" by
Ozark Mountain DareDevils
Toodleydoo
Brandy is their only hit song that I know of. A one hit wonder. Ifyou like this song as much as I do, check out Ride Captain Ride by Blues Image. Another good one is Hold Your Head Up by Argent. ✌️❤️
If you're doing one hit wonders from this time, I'd like to see a reaction to Troglodyte by the Jimmy Castor Bunch.
Pop Muzik by M is a one-hit wonder of epic proportions.
You waited so long that this entry might not have made it into the marathon.😂
The seventies was possibly the greatest decade in the history of recorded music. So much so that when this song came out it was just another Tuesday in 1972. Another beautiful, perfect Tuesday.
Agreed
Without a doubt, it was the pinnacle of pop radio. In the course of an hour you’d hear a gem like this, heavy rock, an instrumental, some soul and funk, something with a metropolitan country sound, bubblegum, Motown…
💯 Agree
@@submandave1125
It forced people to step outside of their musical bubbles. It was wonderful.
If you are truly objective, I think you have to give it to the 70s music. The intermix of so many types of music while keeping them ear friendly with wonderful melodies was a real accomplishment.
"Brandy" and "Dancin' in the Moonlight" are linked in my mind as the epitome of great early 70s music. I think they came out the same year. They're like two bottles of fine, aged wine that should always be enjoyed together.
Completely agree
Definately !! The finest of 70s soft rock also baby comeback ! 😎✌
Yup, and they are both primary examples of the Jersey Shore Sound!!!!
@@stevecontini5386 It's funny how big the difference is between early-70s music and mid to late-70s music. For me, early 70s was Three Dog Night, Carpenters, Melanie, leftover 60s acts, and a whole lot of one-hit wonders. By the end of the decade, these acts were either totally forgotten or had fallen into disfavor (particularly Carpenters) while disco dominated and new wave was on the rise.
I fully agree with you! One bottle of the best red wine and one bottle of the finest white wine!!
One of the finest songs of the 70's!
Gentlemen i wore my silver chain til it broke beyond repair. Yes he was a sailor and yes i love him still, no we could not be together. It was what it was. This is a bittersweet memory. Glad you liked the song.❤
Brandy, you're a fine girl.
life goes on huh
You’re Brandy now!
It sure did feel like that at the time. But no my name is Michelle. But I wore a silver chain with a gold cross (not a locket) with his name on it till I wore it out, literally. He was in the navy, we were childhood sweethearts, but we couldn't be together. Loved each other but then once in the military, things happened.
This is one of those songs that cannot be improved upon. It's perfection.
To my ear the song that is closest to this is "Dancing in the Moonlight" by King Harvest. That early 70s sound. So good.
I hear you… they remind me of each other
The definition of a one hit wonder. Back in the day this song was all over the radio.
could hear it way over here in New Zealand it was that good
@@donaldduck2139 🤣
And it's still awesome. I know a one hit wonder I wish these guys would react to, It's called "Mama Let Him Play" by a band called "Doucette", the late Jerry Doucette on guitars and vocals. Absolutey has to be the studio version, never seen a good live version.
Pure seventies gold. If you had your radio on , you were gonna hear “Brandy”. Clean sound, great lyrics, sweet brass. A tremendous hit that evokes cherished memories.
This song's success is why Barry Manilow had to rename his song, "Mandy."
Barry Manilow's song was about Melissa Manchester I do believe.. why it is named Mandy..
@@rhondaserges5136 Actually, Manilow's "Mandy" was a cover by an earlier song named "Brandy." co-written and performed by a British act by the name of Scott English (hard to get more British than that) in 1971. Manilow decided to cover the song but due to the success of Looking Glass's completely different song in 1972, Manilow - at the advice of his label - changed the name to "Mandy." While Scott English hit only 91 on the US Billboard 100, Manilow hit number one in 1974. The English/Manilow song was covered a lot...by a lot of different acts.
@@no2all many teenage girls want to argue with you. Lol
@@rhondaserges5136 Sorry. I will go hang my head in shame...😁
This song is pure perfection and the epitome of 70s smooth rock.
I was born in 72 and my mother named me Brandy after this song. It has been a blessing and a curse! I have always been amazed at how many people Love this song. I love it too but have been teased all my life for my name. Mostly negative things lol but that's ok because I'm a one hit wonder too! I'm glad yall did it. There is another Brandy by the OJs too. It's great. Love the reaction. Thanks yall
You're no one hit wonder. I've always loved the name Brandy. It says you're a warm, spicey gal and that's just in your name. You should love your name and don't let people tease you. Some people are just miserable and have to make others miserable too...bless their little hearts lol. I was 10 years old when this came out. We kids lived at the skating rink every weekend, in the summertime and this is one of the songs they played for couples skating. I learned how to skate the Hialeah backwards to this song. Great memories.
Mmmm... That's the 'O-Jays'. OJ is a totally different kind of OJ.
Try being about 12, when little Willy (won’t go home) comes out, and your name is Will
@@sgt.blkdog3840a great song Sweet is so underrated.
@@markdicesare7936 oh I dig it now. But back in the day? 😡
Brandy, you're a fine song. One of my all-time favorites.
Great song. Never gets old. One hit but they knocked it out of the park.
I remember when this hit the radio. Really was one of the best songs of the 70's and hasnt really aged. Definitely shows that perfection is timeless... 😉
Like “Drift Away,” one of the catchiest songs of the ‘70s.
Have they done "Drift Away "?
AND THERE WHERE 10000000000S
Oh, WOW! I nearly forgot that little nugget of happiness song from Doby Gray!!
Who couldn’t like this song!
Thank y'all for the flashback memories of my childhood. 😁 I'm turning 60 this year, but in my mind I'm still that kid. 💓 Much Love!
Me 2 im 63 It was a blast being a teen in the 70s
Perfect one hit wonder. Will not disappoint!
The lyrics of this song are amazing. The way he tells the story sucks you right in. I was always surprised they didn’t do more than two albums.
Simply stated, one of the best songs ever written. One of the songs that you never ever change the radio station when it comes on.
Sit in the car even if it's late for work, just to listen to it.
I love that lyric My life, my love, and my lady is the sea. 🧜♀️
One of my faves!!! I was born 1970. And found it in my 30’s.
This will be a favorite. It’s an oldie but a goodie!
WHO ELSE MISSIS THE FANTASIC 1970s Just me?
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS SONG!!!!
Great song, and used in Guardians of the Galaxy 2!
This song came out when I was young. When I was a bit older a teen my uncle tommy who passed away had nick names for all of us, my name is Brenda but he called me Brandy. This song of course makes me smile. I think of him Every time I hear it!!!!
How cool! Cheers to Uncle Tommy!!
Makes me think of Starbuck's Moonlight Feels Right. Another great tune and similar vibe.
I'm going to show my age, because I totally remember this song as a little girl!!! And it has always been my favorite song!
This song went all the way to Billboard #1 for a week in 1972. The Looking Glass had a second minor hit, "Jimmy Loves Mary Anne," in 1973. It was a good song too, but barely broke the Top 40, and after that they were not heard from again.
This is such a great song!!!
Love this song
This was a big hit and played on radio stations for decades and still so occasionally!
Yacht Rock classic. This one is gonna be well received.
This was my late husbands favorite song. He picked Brandi for our daughters name. She's 28 now and works at an ol' English bar in Ashland Oregon. She tells everyone that Brandy is her song.
WOOOW I live up in Seaside Oregon USA
I've loved this since it was first released, and it still stops me in my tracks when I hear it. Same with "Smoke From a Distant Fire". So glad both songs have found their way to the two of you (and, hopefully also Ty!).
Yes to Smoke from Distant Fire, gorgeous song too 😊
This song came out when I was eleven years old, and I've loved it ever since.
Song writing and story telling doesn't get much better than this. And the horn arrangements....oh my. If they come to you and tell you - there's just gonna be one hit, you can't do much better than this.
Looking glass has always been on my playlist. They’re an awesome band. I love this song.
I seen a poll only through public voting ranking the top One Hit Wonders of all time, and "Brandy (You're a Fine Girl" topped out as the best, and i for one conquer!
Classic song! Very memorable, great story, great vocals and great groove. Y'all will love it❤
One of the best songs ever🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
This is one of my all time favorites.
BEST OHW on the planet EVER. I'm a retired Sailor so this is right down my alley.
I've never seen or met anyone NOT enjoy this song.
Great song. Elliot Laurie, singer, went on to enormous success in the film industry scoring/writing music for countless TV shows and movies.
I knew you guys would like it!!!!
I remember singing this while it played on AM Radio and still remember EVERY SINGLE WORD.
Every element of this song and recording is sheer perfection. Takes me back to the carefree summer of 1972 at the beach ⛱️ ❤
Such a bittersweet kind of ballad :)
Glad you like Brandy. One hit wonder, Bertie Higgins "Key Largo".
Blech
One of my childhood favorites, love a song that tells a story, and his voice is so different and distinctive. I'm expecting you guys to love this one!
I always thought this had a vibe like ‘The Captain Of Her Heart’ by Double. Both great one-hit wonders.
“The Captain Of Her Heart” gets my recommendation. ✌🏽
A little remembered but fantastic song!
Wow! Thanks for reminding me!!!
I hate that song!😅
Sorry, that song is not in the same league as “Brandy”
Such a killer song, so well arranged - and great lyrics. When I heard it for the first time, I immediately fell in love with Brandy. Fun fact: In one episode of The King of Queens Doug delivers a hilarious karaoke version. 😅
Classic song...love the positive commentary!
After Elliott Lurie left, Looking Glass morphed into the power pop band Starz, which had a decent hit with the song "Cherry Baby" in 1977.
I need to look that song up as it sounds familiar to me.
On a playlist of my favs from my teen years👍🏻
Looking Glass also hit the top 40 with "Jimmy Loves Maryanne."
Great story, vocals, composition, and production.
Dr. Hook - Sylvia's Mother has some of this harmony with production.
Our band played this and nailed it every time - great song!
They also recorded Jimmy Loves Mary-Anne which did chart up to 33 in the top 100. So close to a one hit wonder.
You guys make me smile every time. 😊 I remember this on the AM radio when I was 7. Remember every word and have loved it ever since. I wonder how many girls were named Brandy due to this gem.
They had a minor hit with "Jimmy Loves Mary Anne" which I really like.
Yeah , that's a great song
I think it was In the movie Gardinas of the Galaxy which are many 70s songs
Their follow-up single "Jimmy Loves Mary-Anne" peaked at #33 for 2 weeks in Sept - Oct 1973.
Have you listened to Dancin' In The Moonlight by King Harvest
Or
Hot Child In The City by Nick Gilder?
PLAY IT AGAIN!!!!!😂😂😂🎉
These boys are from my alma mater RUTGERS...
True story . . . my mom really liked this song. Dad sent us to the local "Woolco" to buy the album for her. My younger bro and I did this. The album had the Looking Glass album cover, but some other band's album inside. Days later, we took the album back, and came home with the same wrong band inside the album cover.
Yep! In 1972 we 12 year old girls had great taste! 🧓😎
YEP I WAS 11
You guys are AMAZING! Your choices are spot on! I love this song! Yet another childhood memory. The line: "What a good wife you would be." kind of makes me laugh. Let's just say that lyric is "charmingly old-fashioned." Shall we? LOL
One of my favorite songs of all times, I have the album still to this day. We were so sad it was just a one hit wonder, this song was SOOO good both musically and lyrically.
This is my sister's and my favorite karaoke song to do together!. She sings lead and I come in with the back-up and harmonies.
Love this song, one of my Top loves
Of the 70's !!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Since they brought up Karaoke, it was hilarious seeing Kevin James sing Karaoke to this on “King of Queens”
This just doesn’t get old! So glad you liked it! (There is a UA-cam video floating around- fairly recently - of Elliot Lurie singing this with an a capella group. It’s fantastic!)
Part of the soundtrack of my youth!
Fire, awesome cool song yay, I remember hearing this song on the radio 📻 🔘 🎶🎵🎤🕺💃
You are going to love this and the rest of us will write a lette right along with you.
Yep, there is a song called "Mandy," and it's by Barry Manilow, who is definitely NOT a one-hit wonder.
The Song Mandy was originally called Brandy, but changed to Mandy so as not to be confused with this song
Barely Manenough.
@@armorer94 seriously? Gay jokes about Barry aren't funny. He's like Elton John, virtually everybody loves him.
I listened to Brandy this morning at work. It's the first song on a particular playlist, and I never really tire of it.
Fire song!!! Excellent reaction!!!
Just a fantastic song! Perfection!
Great song, great memories!
🎶🎶 Great choice!
This was in The King If Queens one night ‘Doug’ was singing this at a Kareoke Bar! It was hilarious!
Love this tune! Great one hit wonder! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
my big sissy loved this song i first heard back when it played on the radio in L.A
I was very young when it came out…but it’s always been an old favorite 🙂👍🏻
This was such a great period for story songs, there are tons from this period. One is Tanya Tucker's early hit "Lizzie and The Rainman", great drums on that song as well. A really cool oldie.
I would be willing to wager good money that you guys loved this one! And for good reason…it’s a classic!
Love this song!!!!
Barry Manilow/Mandy. This is a former #1 hit from the 1970's😮😊!
This song features prominently in the movie "Guardians of the Galaxy Part 2", in fact it was actually part of the plot.
This is one of those records that is so good that it has never gotten old, regardless of how many times I've heard it. I was 4 years old when this came out in 1972.
I was 11
Top notch, brilliant and engaging, love this song, and the singer's voice soooo much ❤
I love this song. The way he sings makes me picture everything he’s saying perfectly. I’ve always wondered what Brandy looked like.
I really enjoy watching your reactions! You three have such an authentic appreciation for so many different genres, and recognize that good music crosses all boundaries. Well done again, guys!
This song was in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, and was actually worked into the movie quite cleverly.
I'm now Googling "Finest Silver from North Spain!" I want a chain from there!!
“Mandy” was a chart topper released in 1975 by Barry Manilow.
This song plays a big part in the Guardians Of The Galaxy movies
Hey guy’s im a Jersey native and yes there is a “jersey shore sound”. It’s worth it to check out Trapped Again by Southside Johnny and The Asbury Jukes. It has a nice horn section in it. Great reaction to Brandy👍
