I learned this knot from Outdoor Life or Field and Stream magazine when I was a kid in the 1960s. About the only knot I've ever used since. I certainly agree the double uni is much easier to tie than the blood knot. At the end when you say it's been you knot of choice for almost 50 years. Makes me wonder if you learned it the way I did. :)
I've mostly used an improved clinch knot for fly to leader connections over the last 35 years. However, as my eyes get older and fingers less nimple, I find this one MUCH easier to tie in actuall fishing conditions. These days, (when I'm not using a loop knot on big streamers) this one is it. As with all tightlinevideo's, this one was very well done. Thanks.
Congratulations !!you have made the best video on the Internet for ting this knot ...everybody has a different learning process but this transcends all of it because it’s just so clear and easy to see what you’re doing using a big line does help I’m sure but it’s also the way you shot it and your explanation I can’t tell you how long it took me to get to this video and how many frustrating ,just unbelievably ineffective videos I watched thank you !!thank you so much!!
Been using the uni knot for decades with never less than 7 wraps, as indicated here. Best knot my fishing buddies and I ever used. Glad to see it presented here. Nicely done.
Great instructional video. I've got fat fingers, so I usually tie a palomar, but I am literally in my garage with a hook in the vise repeating things over and over to learn the uni! :)
Very good video, I like the uni and have used it, but I like to see it done with someone who explains it so well I don't fish as often as I'd like to and I need to refresh my memory occasionally. Thanks for sharing
The fact that he's using a big visible line is genius , most videos like this are hard to make out and can barely tell exactly what they are doing with the line . Thanks again 👍🏼
The improved clinch, palomer, and uni knots all work excellent and are really quick and easy to tie. Doing it simple is always better in my opinion because it gives you way more consistency
Been using Uni knots since I started fishing as a kid back in the 1960's... and I've NEVER had one fail. P.S. You can also tie a Uni knot quite easily at nighttime in the dark simply by the 'feel' of it.
Wow this knot is so easy I think is going to be my new go to knot. Can't wait to show this off to my girlfriend lmaooooo I am so used to the knot where you run it through the eye and then wrap it around 5-7 times then run it through the loop near the eye of the hook I forgot the name of that knot but I have been using it for over 10 years but with braid that knot I used in the past slips this knot is nice. Thanks! Explained and shown really good .
I think you're talking about the (improved) clinch knot! Many anglers call it the fisherman's knot. I used this knot for a long time as well, but after seeing this video, I'm going to try tying the uni knot onto my lines the next time I go out.
@@to3jamm yeah that's what it's but not the improved version there is one extra step in the improved clinch knot . All I know is the clinch knot is not good with braid I had a ton of slips and lost fish.
30 videos later I understand how to do it! You know why? You used a big line to explain it! Everyone else used a tiny fishing line only that you could barely see! Thank you!!
Thank you!! That first clip shows it perfectly. Now I just have to practice with 30-50lb line.. I can get it will any smaller lb test but big stuff eludes me somehow
already have caught a 30# Blue Cat off of these (going to try to get a 60#+ next year). ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxzXmlErSqVAEGWFEKO530BvTqFDw53QW3 Definitely very strong, and sharp. Additionally, the gap is wide enough to actually hook a fish (not always the case with circle hooks). I purchased the 8/0, but probably should have got the 9/0 (they seem slightly smaller than other 8/0 hooks). Additionally, having the point in-line helps if you drift fish. I have yet to get a serious snag with one of these hooks.
I've caught Bluefin, Yellowfin and just about everything else with the double uni. We use it to tie spectra to fluor and it's held fish #80-#220 with confidence, that coupled with the double san diego knot.
I uni knot everything from 2lb to 100lb, hook sinker swivels float. There are certain knot for certain application but rare like braid to mono with FG knot...I don't think the knot is the problem but most case is under gun and not inspect your knot before cast. Thanks for posting.
I tie the uni knot when I go bait fishing this knot is really easy to do thanks for the tutorial knot video this video was really helpful Keep up the amazing work tightlinevideo !!
I love this knot but i have had slippage occur. So in order to make it work better, I wrap around 3-7 times like the man did but i take the tag end and wrap it back through the loop near the hook, then pull everything tight and it has never failed since.
I always go double around the hook with any knot, hence the palamore knot because it doubles through the eye lid and the uni knot but just go around the eye twice
i learned this knot about 50 yrs ago out of a magazine. since then, i have taught it to anyone that was interested. without fail they all came back and thanked me profusely.

Glad to see it presented here.
Nicely done.
I’ve watched so many videos on how to tie a good fishing know. This is by far the best one.
Knot tying vids are tricky to make for people to understand. This one is really well done. Lighting, good prop line, excellent narration. Thanks

True bro. Bless
I love this video. No ads solid volume and clear speaking. Good light lighting and up close
The improved clinch, palomer, and uni knots all work excellent and are really quick and easy to tie. Doing it simple is always better in my opinion because it gives you way more consistency
Extremely simple and easy to follow video.
I only use 3 knots, the Uni, Palomar, and Improved Clinch knot.
Double Uni is my go to for attaching leaders. No breaks, line snaps before the knot does
Thanks. I’ve been looking for a good video for how to tie this knot.

My two favorite knots are the uni and palomar. This is by far the best illustration as to how to tie a uni. Well done.
30 videos later I understand how to do it! You know why? You used a big line to explain it! Everyone else used a tiny fishing line only that you could barely see! Thank you!!
This is the 6th video I've watched to learn this knot and the 1st one to be clear and easily understood. Thank you
I’ve been using this knot for years. Just keep in mind, the loop looks like a 'six' (6) and I wrap 'six' times.
Nice
Agreed, I recommend 6-8.
Great trick!
great tip dude, tks man ..!! 👍👍👌
thanks I’ve had a bunch of trouble with knots lol
A nice short video with various applications of the uni.
Thank you 👍
I don't get vids of 8/10 minutes to tie a knot that's a ridiculous time.
Thanks dude helped a lot i recently have been tying a fisherman’s knot which sucks and now I can tie a uni knot
Thank you!!
That first clip shows it perfectly. Now I just have to practice with 30-50lb line.. I can get it will any smaller lb test but big stuff eludes me somehow
Well done on the tutorial and video. Everything was well narrated and it was easy to see what you were referring to.

Uni knot is the strongest &the best👍👍👍
Thanks for the tip, I just uni knotted my shoes laces together!
Did you clip the tag ends too? 😂
Just don't forget before you go jogging
This knot looks just the same as a grinner and double grinner a good universal knot, great video thanks.
Thank You; it's an excellent demonstration !
Very clear instructions, as all your videos. Thank you.
This video was so helpful I’ve mastered this easy knot thank you so much all the other videos and guides were knot this clear

Easy clear not too much talking. Great job thanks.
I learned a knot from your video, thank you! 😁
I've caught Bluefin, Yellowfin and just about everything else with the double uni. We use it to tie spectra to fluor and it's held fish #80-#220 with confidence, that coupled with the double san diego knot.
helpful videos for how to tie the right way.. this is very good my friend
Can you cinch it down before the hook eye to create a loop, or will it tighten down to the hook eye anyway when used?
Thank you! Best demo on UA-cam

Thanks man I am a kid and I go fishing with my dad so my dad told me to try and learn a fishing knot
I tie the uni knot when I go bait fishing this knot is really easy to do thanks for the tutorial knot video this video was really helpful Keep up the amazing work tightlinevideo !!

Thanks! Your video just helped me fix my throw net!
Thankyou best demo of uni knot on youtube
This is my knot of choice. I have never had an issue with it. Just so simple.
Carolina rig
I love the uni. Basically its either that or a non slip mono loop for all of my fishing!
Hey, I just tied my first uni. Thanks.
welcome to the uni club.
Looks easy for you, us Yetis have a hard time tying knots.
Great video and explanation was easily comprehensible ! Thanks!
Great explanation! You made it very easy to understand
Double uni makes for a good stopper knot for big slip corks! And it goes through your pole eyes easy!
Very helpful
Thank you for this, it was a lot easier than I thought.
Finally a clear video thank you!!!!
Fantastic video man, gave me way more confidence in my (braid to flouro) pairing. Thanks a lot.
Wonderful knot. I use it for tieing floracarbon leaders to braid. Once you get used to tieing it it is simple and easy even with cold hands.
Best knot and great explanation and presentation! Cheers !
So easy for the way you presented this. Thank you.
Good video. ,Good instructions. Thanks. John from Ohio.
I love this knot but i have had slippage occur. So in order to make it work better, I wrap around 3-7 times like the man did but i take the tag end and wrap it back through the loop near the hook, then pull everything tight and it has never failed since.
Thanks so much for this video. It was clear and easy to follow!
MAKE IT LIKE #6 MY BEST WAY TO REMEMBER😎 IT'S SO UNIVERSAL.
I love the Improved clinch knot or the clinch depending on the leader\tippet diameter
Thankyou I've been needing a new knot. I use the palomar knot and it started breaking so I switched to the uni lnot
Yeah my friend uses palomar but people say this is strong so thats what im gonna try
@Sparka i did wet the line i started using the palomar again and the uni knot
These 2 and the palomar. That's all you need in life.
Excellent presentation, thank you
Thank you for such a good tutorial.
Excellent demonstration
Great video. Awesome narration and showing of how to tie the knot.
Thank u 🙏 for making this video and u got one new sun
Thanks from South Africa.
I use 80# leader to 50# main works wonderful!
I just turned one of my hats into a hat with a draw string thanks to this tutorial... Thanks!
I've known this knot for years, I usually do it 8 times for good measure, and it holds on tight.
Can you loop around the hook eye twice to make the knot stronger?
Well done. My new favorite knot and so easy. Ty
Good tip Michael !
Uni is the way to go!!
Can you use the uni knot to change the fishing line
Really satisfying watching this
thank you.best teacher.
Always use the double uni for mono to braid.
i prefer the fg with a rizuto finish
I use the crazy alberto knot when braid to mono leader. I've pulled 10 - 12lbs strippers up onto the pier. It has yet to fail me.
Thanks
Knot bad, I like it thanks for posting
da dum tssss
I keep seeing things about the “Uniknot”. Have you used it much? What do you think of it?
The Captain check the end of the video
Cheers I've been doing it wrong since I've seen this demo now I know
fantastic guide, ty
Fantastic video. Thank you Sir!
Double uni for fluro to braid is all I use, and is easy once you get the hang of it.
I always go double around the hook with any knot, hence the palamore knot because it doubles through the eye lid and the uni knot but just go around the eye twice
Thanks, just tied my first uni knot :)
So hows your uni knot holding up Deidre?
Knowledge is awesome, thanks
Awesome video thanks will be using this knot from now on👍
I love it!!! Great post!!
Fantastic video love this know
I wonder how this knot compares (strength with mono) to the Trilene knot that I am currently using with my Trebles with Avoidasnag's?
90 percent knot strength. Passing through the eye twice before completing the uni knot gives you 99 percent knot strength.
thx learnt this knot when I was 7.. Still use it
Nicely done ✅👍
I use this knot for virtually everything
i learned this knot about 50 yrs ago out of a magazine. since then, i have taught it to anyone that was interested. without fail they all came back and thanked me profusely.
Thank you for the video!
