Glad to see you use nylon and not fluoro too... Everybody around me goes crazy for fluoro, I'm trying to explain there is no reason to waste money on it, but they don't get it. Maybe you may explain why you use nylon in one of your tutorials, or maybe you did already, if so pls poste a link... Like always great vid! Thx
Great content as always! We tested literally thousands of knots on a testing machine at our shop. We were building IGFA qualified leaders for tournament anglers targeting billfish and fly fishermen in pursuit of salmon in Norway ...$5000.00 per week in the eighties. Suffice it to say our terminal rigs had to be bomb proof. One thing we learned for sure: ALWAYS lube the knot. Spit works great. Depending on the leader material you lose up to 15% breaking strain if you tie it dry. If the knot can slip it becomes a weak link. The other great sin of course is crossing loops. It effectively creates an over hand knot and you can lose 50% of breaking strain. Four loops is plenty on thick stuff above 20kg. Theoretically five is optimum but that presumes a perfectly snugged knot. Getting that tight with five loops is a chore. I does gain 5% if perfect but if you do the math on a shock leader it means nothing. If it slips you may lose as much as 20%. I use four. God bless the dude using six! Cheers!
Great Post! I wanna add: Everytime you burn a knob to the end of the line, do it under cold water with just the tip reaching out of the water. Nylon can be damaged in the core by great heat, the water cools it, while you burn the knob
Thanks for the information bro! 👍 I've been tying My Fg and Uni knot without using spit on it, Now that I know this I will start to do it. Thanks Alot bro Cheers! 👊

Mate there’s something about the way you shoot your videos . It’s so clear! These videos should be a rule book to all who wanna go out and make fishing knots videos 😝 love your knot and especially this version is new to me. I’m a big believer of uni knot and use it on my lesser poundage setups but on my bigger setups I use the AG chain knot on the swivel.. cheers for the vid legend 🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻
BRIGGSY!!!!!!!! always sit in front of my computer and tie knots with you haha, tried another leader knot that was junk so came back to your FG and its as mint as ever, was just tying swivels onto my pe4 stickbait with this uni and wouldn't you know it I had a REDTANK RELOAD in my hand going on it, swims awesome in my pool hahaha can't wait to get out to the islands with it!!
To derisk the hook sitch I recommend using an another lure without hooks to tie the knot onto, and then switch the swivel over to your new lure. Also when pulling the knot tight I like to wrap the main line around a piece of short and thick (hand-size) dowel. Just wrap the the main line around the towel a few times and pull. That dowel is also useful for breaking off a snag (same technique). I keep it on a keyring attached to my pants. The advantage of using dowel is that when it falls in the water it floats.
Also something i like doing especially if using something hard to grab onto when doing the final tighten is secure the hook around something sturdy or even another large hook and pull it up tight that way. Far less chance of any accidents
Hello Briggsy, greetings from Peru 👋👋👋...I hope you and your family are doing well now under the covid19 situation. Here in Peru we are still in quarantine so we can’t go out for fishing yet. I my next fishing trip, I will try your uni knot with four wraps in my setups. It is really an easy, strong and sure knot. Thanks for sharing your tips.... take care and hoping to see your next video soon...👋👋👋
Hey mate, instead of gripping onto the lure, try getting a large or regular sized keyring. Attach the split ring onto the keyring and use the keyring to pull the shit out of the knot. No risk of stabby stabby. I like to use a keyring to twist my line to quickly tie uni knots onto my fastach clips. Nice variation on the uni knot, keep it up!
Great videos mate and learnt lots from these. I am only just a beginner and never had anyone to teach me so these sorts of videos are invaluable. Just a question in regards to the uni knot on soft plastics will that particular knot slide down the loop under tension? Or will it sit where it is to allow the soft plastic movement.
never had an issue with a good uni. I tend to be on 3 wraps with thick leader and 4 on smaller, never had an issue, will try to stick with 4 after this video! yep 80lb in New Cal saves you from all the cutting critters in our waters; my go to size when things get serious. All good, hope you are fine briggsy! cheers
Uni knot looks alot better then what I've been doing on my lures, always good to see the different knots used 👌 That redtank is beautiful 😍 soo keen to have mine soon but not that nice yet as I'm scared ill destroy or loose them haha.
Very Nice explained! Did you try yet with a overhand knot and a blob? Just fg to the main line, overhand knot at the end of the Leader and a blob at the very end, loop the blob in the knot and pull tight, super easy to open and close and no pliers or anything needed!
The nail knot is a cleaner and stronger connection for a single pass through IMO. You can tie 400 lb mono easy with with it as well. The AG chain knot overall Is the strongest knot for stick baiting to absorb shock and protect the mono because it uses a double pass through 🤙
I realize this is an alder video but right in my present research, I am new to the GT fishing, anyone is using ball bearing swivels? next question is anyone using thimbles and crimps? thanks a lot guys and girls for taking the time. Briggsy loved watching all your videos, you guys are inspirational.
This is a different version of the uni knot to what I've seen in other tutorials where you lay the leader down by the main line go under to create a loop and wrap the tag through a couple of times, either way I'll give it a go.
I was wondering what happens with the loop nut when fighting a fish. Under pressure it slides down completely. Would you retie after every fish? Great video btw. Thanks for sharing.
6:48 same here man all these ppl cutting there tag completely off and then they wonder y there knot failed u have to leave some cause I don’t care what knot u tie it can slip u need some tag end
Hey Briggsy, there’s this brand called Tactical Anglers that make this clip used for switching out lures with ease. Most people here on the East Coast in the states use them, and I think that would make it easier for ya
Was just watching your fg knot vid last night before work while i was setting up a extra rod for a coworker coem Friday, though significantly less heavy line, anyways back on topic, im assuming this will work for trying leader to a steel wire leader as well
Hi Briggsy, when i fish my lures trolling behind the boat i leave the splitrings and the swivels of and connect the lure directly to the leader with a Rapala-knot. I also use it whilst casting with poppers and topwater lures. Works fine and benifits to the action of the lure. For al the rest i also use the uni-knot. Greetings, Frank PS Keep up the good work with those vids.
Hi Mate, it still slips for me from time to time but I just hold real tight on the loop and cinch it down to my fingers (try to get it to lock in place a bit). Prolly best to learn and tie a proper loop knot if you're hardcore about your plastics fishing!
What tipe of shoes do you guys find best for fishing of the rocks? Can you name a few makes and models...hopefully will be able to find it in southafrica...
Briggsy, great macro vid as always. What are your thoughts on casting leaders such served and doubled loop ends. I really enjoy them for their ability to be reeled in to rod tip when landing fish or just running. How do you prevent the FG from jamming in rod tip? Thanks Sam
Hi Mate, under pressure the FG slides (thumps) into the guides without to much fuss and I always cast my FG through the guides, prolly have about 1.5-2m of leader in the guides when casting. FG jams in the rod tip if ur mono tag is too long, when I finish it i try and make sure it's as close as possible to the knot and doesn't stick out too much. Longer FG's with more wraps prolly get stuck easier as well but 20 for heavy and 26 wraps for medium/light i don't get that problem.
Hi Briggsy, You have been using Zenaq rods for a long time... So, I have a question about RG Guide Model, eg. for rod: Zenaq Defi Muthos Sonio 100M is there really a difference between K and RG Guide Model in terms of casting distans assuming that the most lures I will use between 40-60g? Does it make sense to buy the RG model, do I really gain from this in terms of the length of the cast? Thanks in advance this will be very helpful to me. You do a great job guys!!!
If there are 40-70lb wahoo around, would you use this 220lb-370 nylon or would you switch to wire leader? ......here from the coast there is a lot of depth!, there is no platform(perhaps the bg5000 is not enough from the coast),and sometimes bait fishing from kayak.
I'm not sure how you'd rig for casting for wahoo. But in Florida when we troll for them, we use about half an armspan of piano wire to the lure, then 20ish feet of 300lb mono shock leader. They're toothy critters, I've seen em shear through the shock leader after missing the lure. But they don't really seem to mind the wire. I'm not sure how well wire works in a casting situation though. The wire might not be needed if you can keep the mono out of their mouths.
Hi Briggsy, What kind of swivel and what size swivel should I use for a 50mm popper? I am an amateur from down in vic and your really helpin me out! Keep it up!
Hi Mate, it's good to use swivels on everything except plastics, even tiny little lures. The reason is it adds freedom to the lure but also every time you crank line back onto your reel the line roller/bail arm/way the line lays ads a tiny bit of line twist and over many hours fishing you can get noticeable/bad line twist. I use NT swivels in general but not sure if you can get em small enough for the lure you're talking about, if not look for "crane swivels" (pretty sure that's what they're called) in a different brand.
everybody should spit on all leader and mainlines and all connections. you produce a lot of heat when you cinch a knot down and it can affect the strength of the braid. a few videos out there on the tube about it. that's a very good looking uni for 200 lb leader. that's very heavy leader. i don't think there's anyone in the world running heavier leader from shore on spin.
Briggsy, Is there a magic number on the length of the leader for your style of fishing? Even with an FG or a PR knot, when I cast hard, it hits the guides and makes a mess... Thanks in advance
Hi Mate, depends on the rod length, but I like the leader knot to sit on the first guide as I cast. I like rods with big guides so the knot doesn’t bang too much and also try and use a leader thickness that suits the rod 👍
Hi Mate, I pretty much fish all of my setups as if I'm GT fishing and with GT fishing you want the strongest/simplest gear with the smallest chance of tackle failure. I learnt GT fishing through years of trail and error and from mates who were further along that path than me, and I honestly just don't trust snap swivels the way I do swivels. Can't say i've used them much (i think just a few times i tried that) but the strength of lure to spitring to swiv to line I fully trust will hold as much pressure as i can put on my heavy setup. I'm so used to doing it that way i just do everything that way now (all the way down to my lightest setup). I think it's definitely the safest way i've seen to rig up for lures so for me an extra few seconds to change lures i'll live with if it increases my chances on a big fish (even if it's only a slight increase).
@@Briggsy Yeah true I see what you mean. Thanks for the reply. I've been watching your tutorial series over and over as I'm new to targeting pelagics. Keep up the awesome content mate!
Hi Mate, I do it for a few reasons, yeah apparently there's a small amount of line twist every time your reel does a rotation and lays the line on the spool. So it's to avoid twist, but also i change lures by taking the swivel off and putting it on the next lure. I've also found that if you tie directly to a split ring your knot will get damaged when it cinches up and you can cast your lure off to the horizon!
I was about 2 minutes in and went holy shit he's just doing it back to front hahaha. I kind of want to send you a video of how I tie mine. Not saying it's correct but super different technique to the one you just showed 😎
Nice vid, learn alot from your vids. Just wondering tho, how long is the connection between your leader to your mainline so it can cast far and avoid those nasty wind knots!?
Hi Mate, no matter my setup I try to make sure my leader knot sits on my first guid when casting. For my heavy setup with around 8’0 long stick leader would be around 3.5m long (I dangle the lure pretty low with heavy setup), light setup maybe only 2.0m-2.5m because shorter rod and less dangle when casting. Medium Setup somewhere in between depending on rod length 👍
Here's The Lateral Line - ua-cam.com/channels/QYBg0u3DMwc0lLHtj__tjg.html (from the 6 wrap Milan shout out in the vid) check em out!
They are soo good.

yeah tying dry weakens line, the heat from the friction of the knot weakens and frays your line so wetting your line is pretty important

Loving your stuff Briggsy
Great videos mate and learnt lots from these. I am only just a beginner and never had anyone to teach me so these sorts of videos are invaluable.
Just a question in regards to the uni knot on soft plastics will that particular knot slide down the loop under tension? Or will it sit where it is to allow the soft plastic movement.
Wow, that second lure looks awsome...
never had an issue with a good uni. I tend to be on 3 wraps with thick leader and 4 on smaller, never had an issue, will try to stick with 4 after this video! yep 80lb in New Cal saves you from all the cutting critters in our waters; my go to size when things get serious. All good, hope you are fine briggsy! cheers
Uni knot looks alot better then what I've been doing on my lures, always good to see the different knots used 👌
That redtank is beautiful 😍 soo keen to have mine soon but not that nice yet as I'm scared ill destroy or loose them haha.
I usually tie a Palomar knot, but then again the biggest fish I catch are some Snook or Jacks Creval off the beaches here in Florida.
Palomar is a great knot.
Florida boy also, maybe it's a Florida thing.
I use the palomar on lighter tackle. But its a huge pain in the ass with thick leader.
That lens you're using is so good bro!!!!
Dude looked so sick how the light reflecting on the redtank looked like a fish wing
Uni is my fav knot.
Cheers Briggsy. Nice one.
That’s INSANE! I’m over here with 20lb mono leader for trout and redfish lol
This is a different version of the uni knot to what I've seen in other tutorials where you lay the leader down by the main line go under to create a loop and wrap the tag through a couple of times, either way I'll give it a go.
why dont you take the hooks off when pulling the leader tight on the lure? takes a few seconds but surely will one day safe your fingers!
Also if you tie the knot while u have a little warm water running on the knot, it sits very well.
@@sylvesternunes2248 that's clever man 👌
😐
Awesome video dude! Thanks for the clinic.
Another great strong and easy tied knot is the Palomar Knot. It scores extremely high on the knot machines.
Loved your FG video and this uni connection tutorial, what size and brand split ring and swivel are you using for your line to lure connections.?cheers
Thank you for the info and the step by step guide man!! Liked, comment and subbed!!
Uni or polimar are my go to knots for leader to lure.
I also cook the tag end with a lighter. Similar to what you do on your FG. Just a bit of extra piece of mind lol
I was wondering what happens with the loop nut when fighting a fish. Under pressure it slides down completely. Would you retie after every fish? Great video btw. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks brigs do you think you could do like a light setup for grubs and stuff and always stay safe cheers
Good advice on Knots mate.
the Briggsy Knot! yeeewww
Nick Rabauliman well it’s the UNI knot. As he said.
6:48 same here man all these ppl cutting there tag completely off and then they wonder y there knot failed u have to leave some cause I don’t care what knot u tie it can slip u need some tag end
Briggsy please don't pull that hard on lures with hooks in them!! It will end badly one day. You're making me nervous
Dude seriously
Yeah I just use my split ring pliers to grip the swivel and a little cylinder wrapped in electric tape on the leader and pull those two
Spit is a must on the line.👍
The leader is pretty good stuff aye pretty thin for the pound and softer then the 150 I use
Good vid man.....i also use 6 wraps on my uni knots for drone fishing....no other reason than Ive always done it that way....will give the 4 wrap a go
Massive bait, massive line
BIIIGGG, BIIIIIIIGGGGGGGG FISH!!!!!
Hey Briggsy, there’s this brand called Tactical Anglers that make this clip used for switching out lures with ease. Most people here on the East Coast in the states use them, and I think that would make it easier for ya
Great video w need more of them...
Sou do Rio de janeiro Brasil, gostei muito desse material apresentado.
Vida longa aos amantes da pesca.
Infelizmente não falo inglês.
Grande abraço...
Awesome video mate. Just wondering what and where you can get the wraps you have around your leader spools?
Cheers
Was just watching your fg knot vid last night before work while i was setting up a extra rod for a coworker coem Friday, though significantly less heavy line, anyways back on topic, im assuming this will work for trying leader to a steel wire leader as well
thanks for this i switched from palomar knot to this one very easy and strong knot :D
Great tips thanks I learned a lot , I was wondering how long does a pre rigged knot last attached on a lure in normal conditions outdoors or indoor ?
Does the uni loop knot on the light tackle sinch up under pressure?
How do you get you loop knot from slipping? Awesome channel Briggsy!
Hi Mate, it still slips for me from time to time but I just hold real tight on the loop and cinch it down to my fingers (try to get it to lock in place a bit). Prolly best to learn and tie a proper loop knot if you're hardcore about your plastics fishing!
@@Briggsy cheers Brah!
Do you use the same swivel to split ring to lure set up for poppers? Been frothing on your content man. Cheers
Hi Mate, Yep same for poppers, stoked you like the films!
Longer FG's with more wraps prolly get stuck easier as well but 20 for heavy and 26 wraps for medium/light i don't get that problem.
mean vid bro 🤙 I always go through the swivel once with leader but if I'm trying braid I go through twice
Briggsy you make only this knot for fishing big fish? I want to say is one of the best knot or the best???and safe
Thanks for your videos... How many metres is your leader ?
Nice one Mate..... do you use swivels with all the lures like jarkbiat and others
cant wait for my timor leste fishing trip
Awesome tips, many thanks🐳🐳🐳
I do 6, no issues so far haha. Not catching massive GTs yet tho. But let’s see! Goal for 2023
Excellent thanks mate 👌😎
Hi Briggsy,
What kind of swivel and what size swivel should I use for a 50mm popper? I am an amateur from down in vic and your really helpin me out! Keep it up!
Hi Mate, it's good to use swivels on everything except plastics, even tiny little lures. The reason is it adds freedom to the lure but also every time you crank line back onto your reel the line roller/bail arm/way the line lays ads a tiny bit of line twist and over many hours fishing you can get noticeable/bad line twist. I use NT swivels in general but not sure if you can get em small enough for the lure you're talking about, if not look for "crane swivels" (pretty sure that's what they're called) in a different brand.
@@Briggsy Thanks so much Briggsy!
Nice knot briggsy but can i go uni to chain knot did u try it ?
Very good video, hello from Panama
everybody should spit on all leader and mainlines and all connections. you produce a lot of heat when you cinch a knot down and it can affect the strength of the braid. a few videos out there on the tube about it. that's a very good looking uni for 200 lb leader. that's very heavy leader. i don't think there's anyone in the world running heavier leader from shore on spin.
Hey mate doesnt the uni slip down on the light tackle setup. Wont it just slide down and be left with no loop?
Easy tip to prevent hooks from hooking your hand. Wrap the lure with a piece of rag
Briggsy what are the black straps you use on the leader spool? Great idea I really need this
Hi Mate, the Varivas Ocean Record leader comes with them!
Briggsy,
Is there a magic number on the length of the leader for your style of fishing? Even with an FG or a PR knot, when I cast hard, it hits the guides and makes a mess...
Thanks in advance
Hi Mate, depends on the rod length, but I like the leader knot to sit on the first guide as I cast. I like rods with big guides so the knot doesn’t bang too much and also try and use a leader thickness that suits the rod 👍
Thanks Briggsy!
Legend!
Really enjoying your videos Cheers
We miss you Briggsy! When is the next video?
If you wrap it on your hand so you end up at the front of the lure, you will be able to put more force on the knot.
For deep sea jigging, do u recommend fg knot, palomar knot or any other better knot for main line to leader line. Thanks
Rabbaani Ooz hes got his version of an FG tutorial posted, pretty sure that’s what he uses
Hey Briggsy, how come you don't use a snap swivels instead? Wouldn't it be much easier and faster to switch between lures that way?
Hey mate. How come you use a swivel? With a stick bait / popper some people don’t think it rotates enough to need a swivel. Just wondering cheers
Yes, it is necessary to wet the line.
Good advice thanks!!
I do a uni knot but a different way and I wrap it round 6 times instead of 4
Nice vid, learn alot from your vids.
@@Briggsy thank you for the detail info.. cheers mate
