I had some time to kill in between two projects so I rebuilt
the quake theme from scratch. Enjoy! This is not how I would personally make this theme in 2017, but it's a pretty cool and faithful remake.
Andrew is the only person who would listen to a Trent Reznor song and go "Hmm... Not heavy enough..."
In all honesty... the guitar sound is rather underwhelming on the title track when you compare it to Trent's other work.
I believe this came out around the Broken album of NIN. That's arguably the hardest NIN album. I can definitely hear the influence.
And if anyone has ever seen the Broken video (don't really recommend), the album just hits different.
@@bassandspaceable The game came out in 96.
Yeah, it was released in 96 so the original track in super compressed
It's very very good, but I still feel that there could have been more bass in the build up,
DUSK is in good hands.
yes
And now, so is Quake Champions :D
Now all it needs is a graphic designer...
time did prove your statement true
@@Amy-J lmfao its a trash game
*_”’Quake’_* eclipsed the competition and was the final nail in the coffin for the so-called ‘DOOM Clones.’ No longer were such games mere imitators, but instead an entirely new genre.
The First Person Shooter was born.”

@@ruicarignani6641 he already is
@@ruicarignani6641 It's impressive how than man can do all sort of things in his videos very good. He narrates, compose music, edit, create graphics... a truly one-man army
@@Linkale_ he really is a 1 man army, he's not been appearing in my recommended section of late but his vids will always hold a special place in my heart as I wouldn't have discovered doom without his retro ahoy series.
@@ruicarignani6641 He released a new video just a week ago. It's a good idea to subscribe to his channel, because he releases videos every so often and are easy to miss if you only trust the algorithm
I love that metallic sound, it has an awesome industrial feel, the way it repeats in a predictable manner makes it feel like a factory from hell.
That’s industrial music for ya
Most believe that the screaming in the background is Trent Reznor but legend has it that it's really a Revenant!
Slyofwar Kehoe What if Trent Reznor is a Revenant?
Then we're fucked.
Trent Revenant
That agitates my skeleton just thinking about it.
If that's the case, then Nine Inch Nails has been controlled by a Revenant this whole time!! Astonishing. 😮😮
Too painful to be a dream, too real to be a nightmare!
me when Spawns
Best description of real life i've ever seen.
Trent's screaming causes goosebumps every time. Great revamped theme!
hey it's the guy who told me the story about this game!1!1!1!1
Reznor's screams are the soul of this song.
*quad damages out from the wall* I heard a classic game remix is about
Kool-aid man on quad damage XD

Fantastically sacrilegious. We need more alternate soundtracks for Quake, like what Sonic Mayhem did with Methods of Destruction.
I might be more partial to Trent Reznor's original soundtrack but, I can not deny this being *certified KICK ASS.*
Perfect.
guai a te christian airte
Nine Inch Nails would be proud.
LinkieLinkGameing I was thinking of saying that just then lol, and don't forget Trent Reznor, he did the sound design and soundtrack with Nine Inch Nails.
Trent Reznor IS Nine Inch Nails. all of the composition is all Trent, he has friends play with him for live events but the lion's share of the work is him.
He IS Nine Inch Nails, but he did have some help from some of his live members, especially with the Quake soundtrack. Overall, he *is* Nine Inch Nails.
you literally copied that guys comment you brainlet
And they're both wrong. Other members of NIN are fucking muscians too. Whether they only "help play live events" or not, in Quake's case too. Who do you think Chris Vrenna is?
the quake 1 soundtrack was gamechanging for me in my life. you have done this justice
Should be the main theme of Quake Champions.
Hey, this comment aged well!
If only :(
actually, he did the sound track for champions
@@sandman45 He did one of the two soundtracks, which was not released when the original comment was written.
yeah instead of whatever they made
Saw new content from Hulshult and I came as fast as I could! Literally.
ok
Not only is this an incredibly good cover, but it gets bonus points for being the first one I've heard so far to include the dark ambient section. Great work!
0/10 did not remake the screams
Leandro Pacheco heh, I actually ripped the screams from the 2nd half of the song. It's the only thing I couldn't reproduce because...holy shit I don't have the range to scream that high.
It would have been awesome tho. Still, great work as always!
Andrew Hulshult pretty sure Trent didn't either and just pitch shifted and distorted it.
Swallow helium and sit on barbed wires
that made my day
clicked as soon as it popped up in my notifications 10/10
Nikolaevous you from the NB server?
maybe
come back varg we miss you
Amazing!
Very curious how this was gonna sound. Perfection. As someone who loves NIN and understands the contrast of organic mixed with machine, you knocked this track out. You brought the sound out of Trent's work!
Please do more quake soundtracks please, this is fantastic!
Well, I know what I'll be listening to when I play Quake Champions.
Oh Yeah!!!
As soon as I saw something on my recommendations "Quake Theme" "Andrew Hulshult", I was like... OHHHHHH SHIT! Never did I click anything as fast as that. Not to mention, THE POWER OF THIS THEME, HOLY MOLY!
BRUTAL QUAKE LETS GO BOIS!
Dude, you make awesome remakes. thanks for taking time and redoing alot of our childhood games music. I really like IDKFA and waiting for IDDQD to be finished.
Keep up the good work.
AMAZING...I DEFINITELY CAN SAY!!!!!
Quake remastered, who wants it
Its coming
@@ChronoWarrior1996 where is it
The DUSK soundtrack is in good hands.
My favorite part: aaaaaa
Happy 25th birthday to the awesome game of Quake
Damn this drops hard AF. That snare is killer.
This remake makes a fine slice of pizza 🍕👌🍕👌🍕👌🍕👌🍕👌🍕👌🍕👌🍕👌🍕👌🍕👌🍕👌🍕👌🍕👌🍕👌🍕👌🍕👌🍕👌🍕👌🍕 👌🍕 and that's how I compliment on good old music .
Man, I love this one. Of course the Quake theme isn't exactly a breeze to redo. This is a track that immediately captured a whole generation of PC gamers. First time I booted up Quake and heard this screaming at me, I practically shat my pants. But I'd say you've done it more than justice. I especially like the hardness of the first part; every main chord sounds almost like a hammer blow on an anvil. The second part is also very nice; a bit more defined than the original, and more haunting. I even like that you kept the original screams; they kind of transcend the melody and are more than just part of the music. Well done man, thumbs way up!
I like the screen with the cool rain and glowing effects : )
Nice work, man. I would love a sequel to Quake.
In the same timeline as Quake 1? Because there is Quake 2...
@@LateNightPerson And 3 and 4 and Champions and...
Reznor would be proud. Well done.
The Dusk soundtrack is the only game soundtrack that lives up to the high standard that Reznor set with the original Quake.
The cover was so awesome, even the zombies on the right are headbanging!! \m/
Zombies? Quickly, grab the Grenade Launcher!!!
Starts with pure rage, continues with the screams of the damned, followed by an ominous silence. Quake in a nutshell. :)
How is this better than the original
Who gifted you with this talent I have lost myself in for the entire day
1 minute and 15 seconds of badassery
4 minutes and 10 seconds of AAAAaaaaAAaaaaaaaaaa AAAAAAAAAaaaAAAAaaaaaaa........... bwooooooooooooooo........ bweeeeeeew......
Those screams, the chills, another dimension. The screams fade as they cry for help.
It was a perfect try but I'm afraid that it's impossible to improve Reznor's soundtrack :)
Quake was finally remastered, it’s awesome just like this song
Just seeing the title scared me. Amazing.
This is why Quake and Dusk are my two most played games at the moment
So good to come home to this
Congrats on the Quake gig dude, stoked to see what you come up with.
As expected, Trent Reznor interview videos on the sidebar.
does he explain why he hasn't made a good album in 20 years?
except every album he's ever put out lol?
@@killerspinach8256 just don't listen to it if you don't enjoy it.

Hope you keep doing Quake OST remixes! Keep up the good work!
If I ever have to give myself a theme tune I want this.
Considering the phenomenal quake remaster, a quake reboot could happen
*Delicious!*
Sounds great! Can't wait to hear what you have done in Dusk!
LoneStar64 it doesent stray too far from here ;-)
Bro ID needs to make a quake remake, bring back the ranger like they did the doom guy with DOOM 2016.
Great shit my dude. Been a fan for some time. Quake is life and love so thanks for makin this!
I'm surprised that I found this great remake 5 years late. I just went through the original Doom, tried to go through the second one, the 2016 version tried but something happened and it's not there (maybe I just deleted it myself). Anyway, I was inspired to go through the first quake.More videos came out on my birthday (I'm 15 now). I know you are unlikely to read this, but thank you to the excellent Andrew Hulshult.
This would be perfect for a new single player quake game
Killin it as usual.
I love that it still uses Trent's scream
Very nice. Can't believe I missed this.
Quad Sound!
Pls finish Doom 2. I love your remixes so much
Robert Shepherd I'm guessing he will when he's done with the projects he's currently working on
dont forget doom TNT added some of its own tracks. pretty good ones too.
Oh, yeah, he's got a new game he's composing for called "Dusk", and it's coming along brilliantly!
THIS IS AWESOME
My favorite theme from my favorite game! NICE!
You deserve a quad damage sticker. Thank you for you work
DOOM & Quake, the birth of FPS
The one thing I loved about quake was the ending of the levels. Instead of a button it was a pair of massive doors leading you to a dark corridor. It's basically inviting you to go deeper and deeper.
Very good work! Always loved the Quake theme from the day it came out in '96.
I headbanged so much to this my headphones flew across the room (and I kissed my hearing goodbye)
I can still hear the screams even without them, nice!
I was watching an interesting video about map design regression in modern games while scrolling through my subs to add to the queue. Then I saw this. Never in my life have I ducked out so fast.
Would you mind sharing the video you originally found this from, if it isn't too much trouble?
Holy living f**k! How am I just discovering that Andrew the Doom Viking Hulshult remade the Quake theme?!
Bangs so god damn hard i think my legs are broken
Came from DUSK and didn't dissapoint! This is pure amazement.
You, sir, are an officer and a gentleman.
all your remakes are fucking brutal. cheers and respect from spain. 🤘
Intense rocking noises❤️
1:09 that part always gives me some rage when I play Quake
Worthy.
Yey you kept the anguished screams. Nice job.
The future of the Nu-DOOM series is in good hands.
Very nice.
this is a sign. I am to download my newly bought Quake immediately. I hear and obey.
for the new game i can confirm that the multiplayer will be on a seperate disc for tournaments and space and weapon load outs
What the fuck are you on about?
I salute you sir.
as allways great remake 😈👍
A great theme for this lovecraftian game. Iä! Shub Niggurath! The Black Goat of the Woods with a Thousand Young!
Oh wow, I had forgotten about this.
I wonder if you ever thought that you'd be making music for an actual Quake game later on.
Amazing as always mate. Bravo
I love how sinners on the wall banging to track
My favourite.
I'm using this for my dnd campaign that I'm running!
I remember seeing this four years ago and physically pogging as I had been listening to the Quake theme a lot at the time - LOVE the first bit of the song, and good lord this was a breath of fresh air.
Never change, Andrew.
Dave Oshry, David Szymanzki: Mhm, this one is worthy.
Well the original is just unbeatable. But this is very darm good!
Good job.
Godlike
It's been a long time since you do a remake ! I missed it because I'm not on youtube really often this year. But I'm glad I had this in my recommandation tonight ;)
