@Akkari was going to disagree on principle and then realized all the game soundtracks I've liked lately were 90's throwbacks. :P So I'll agree instead.
quake 2 had an amazing soundtrack that barely needs an "upgrade", but is nice to see some love since I havent found any covers. Would be nice to hear your interpretation of big gun and decent into cerberon.
I have a huge respect for your work, for your channel, but I gotta say that your Doom and Quake 2 covers just hit me straight in the feelings. Not only your covers are great, but this music is really special for me (and a lot of others as we can see in the comments). Is it possible to have some FLAC download links? Actually I would love to have the separate tracks in order to attempt some audio balance and stereo workout if you would agree :) anyway, huge thanks for your work!
Man am I so glad they picked this guy for Doom Eternal. They couldn't have found better, you and David absolutely killed it Andrew, hope to see more of your work in the future!
Very well played and extremely good mastering. However, I have to confess: I like it dirtier, mushier, more like a tank or Cyberdemon waltzing over you.
I agree. This is a great tribute, but I still prefer the original... You can almost hear the rust, the metal-on-metal grinding in Sonic Mayhem's original
Absolutely awesome game! Not sure it was underappreciated though. I remember playing this online on Mplayer and also the rather excellent offline EraserBot pack... Good Times!
If I had to pick one song, I'd go with Descent Into Cerberon, but I would genuinely pay money for him to remake the whole soundtrack. That also goes for Quake 1's soundtrack as well.
How the hell am I only know finding this!!! I never had any experience with quake growing up, but this is making me wish I did. Fantastic work my guy, this gives me hope for Ancient Gods.
This is one of many reasons why I love Andrew so fucking much. He can both make his own god tier masterpieces whilst also recreating god tier masterpieces and (arguablly) making them even more god like.
When it comes to music in games, I think of four people. Koji Kondo, Mick Gordon, Bobby Prince, and you Andrew Hulshult. Simply a living legend, nuff said.
I wonder if Andrew had even predicted he'd one day compose brand new tracks for a Doom game after making a cover on Quake 2, life can be quite crazy sometimes huh?
Not quite the same gritty effect the original has , i appreciate it musically but production wise, the original had a cyber factor to it , but i am more than happy someone thinks this is worth remaking .
A very good remake of Quad Machine. I wonder if Andrew will also do Descent into Cerberon? Haven't heard any really good remakes for Descent into Cerberon, interested? Also would it be possible to get a download link, Andrew? I like it that much :)
Good remake, technically, but I like the original better. This one's a notch softer and it just bothers me. By contrast, Going Down The Fast Way added some welcome roughness/metal to the original track.
Q2 theme was composed by Rob Zombie....so yeah, it's gonna have a 90's metal feel - opposed to Quake soundtrack, done by Trent Reznor. I happen to love both.
Just in time for Quake II remaster 2023!

Glad you all like this stuff. It's a hobby of mine right now in-between work. :)
proud of where you have gotten, Mr. Hulshult! I rock out to the ancient gods soundtrack in my car every day. thank you
And look where you are now, mate. Congratulations!
It's going to be a whole lot more then a hobby just you wait.

Oh yeah sort of to show how grungy, dirty and metallic Stroggs are with they're rotting flesh and bone combined with industrial-metal.
I agree. This is a great tribute, but I still prefer the original... You can almost hear the rust, the metal-on-metal grinding in Sonic Mayhem's original
Yeah the original sounds a little muddy at times but nothing beats it for that feeling.
Now for the rest of the soundtrack
Already done by me
