Its wrong to compare both games, they're different genres and they want to tell different stories. For a lover of post-apocalyptic fps games, Metro is the best games series I've ever played. Fallout is an RPG, and it's good when you compare it to other RPGs
I've never played this game or read the book but judging from the comments, I think people are actually interpreting them correctly and nobody thinks it's like Fallout

Best part of the book: Hunter and Sukhoi's conversation on the future of humanity. H: "Remember the anecdote of the two frogs stuck in a can of cream. The first one, who saw the impossibility of getting out, saw no point in treading water and prolonging the inevitable, accepted his fate, and let himself drown. But the second one, persistent for some illogical reason, kept treading. And, eventually, the cream turned to butter, and the frog could easily climb out and free itself."
***** It did not say they lived. They probably died not long after the war (compared to 20 years, at least). The crews would have had enough food/water etc. to survive for a long time to stay hidden as per their purpose). Also, their nuclear reactor is a huge advantage because they can practically have infinite power for their needs. If they did live, I would say they travelled to the Southern Hemisphere where there shouldn't have been war and tried to find a spot of land that did not have fallout. Even better would be if they found an island people that could provide them with food and water in exchange for infinite electricity.
Alex One Yes I thought so. Nonetheless, I completely agree, I loved that part of the book. A lot of amazing quotes came out of that book. IMO especially from Hunter and Khan.

The whole idea of the guitars being just slightly out of tune (as being tuned by ear in the metro tunnels), as well as the simplicity of the tunes is genious!
i'm just sitting here, with the Metro 2033 book in my hands, reading it and listening to this...one of the best decisions of my life :) thank you uploader :)
I like to think that the guitar music in each of the games is Artyom playing as he reads his old journals and reminisces about his time in the Metro. Think about it - most of these play during loading screens, while Artyom narrates the story, and we know that Artyom is actually quite a skilled guitar player through dialogue in-game as well as a few moments where you can interact with various guitars. Knowing how Exodus ends, I think the best explanation is that he's telling the story of his adventures in the Metro to his children many years later, probably in the 2040s, and while he tells the story he occasionally picks up his guitar and plays a nostalgic tune.
but he actually narrates it in real time, not knowing whats ahead of him, what we see on loading screen is his journal which you can read in exodus while exploring aurora
@@kajwis2675 He narrates in real time because he's reading from the journal he wrote during the events of the game, the narration itself is implied to be a much older Artyom Since Anna and Artyom eventually have a child, it seems inevitable that he'd eventually read said journal to this child. While between chapters he'd pick up the guitar and strum a melody from the Metro every once in a while.
First two songs are my favorites. The first one makes me think of sitting around a fire by the gate of my home metro station with my friends. Second makes me think of walking a dark and depressing tunnel, with only my headlamp lighting my way, AK rifle shouldered, waiting for whatever the metro has to throw at me
I think it would be better to get evaporated the second nukes strike your town, than to live underground like a worm with no light, no fresh air and no prospect of ever restoring humanity to the former state.

"world" seems like a fitting word, but the technical definition is universe, because what happens in the universe are only fictional events, which create fictional circumstances for a different "world" with characters, lifeforms, events to appear or to take place

Who here agrees that both metro and S.T.A.L.K.E.R beat fallout? both Metro and S.T.A.L.K.E.R make you feel like you are actually trying to survive in a harsh and dangerous environment, unlike fallout.
"It appears the destruction we've brought upon ourselves was complete. Heaven, hell, and purgatory were atomized as well. So when a person dies in the metro, his soul has no where to go, and must remain here, in the Metro. A harsh, but not undeserved punishment, wouldn't you agree?" This makes me think of the game and the atmosphere that even with the world above a wasteland people in the metro still fight and kill each other over ideals and differences in culture or lust for power or greed and some fight for what they think is right. others fight for one more day on earth even as destroyed as it is.

So you came here, to game soundtracks that are years old, talking bad about the game that is now? Seriously, just listen to the music and not give a damn. I respect your opinion, I may not agree to it but I respect it. Just dude, it's metro 2033 soundtrack and there is literally no way leading to thinking about fallout 76. Yeah both of them may be post apocalyptic and metro may be better than fallout 76 at some parts but 76 is a fun game too.
I don't think an open world Metro game would work too well. The game's honestly mostly in it for the story, and a game made to tell a story usually has to follow a linear path.
You should try the stalker series, it was based off of this book i think. The game is very old but imo, its exactly what you are asking for, i highly reccomend you start with the first one. You can also mod them which is very nice, that is, if you do enjoy the game enough.
just imagine the Metro story was happened in Russia/Soviet after 20years later when the nukes fell and then somehow 200years later... the begin of the Fallout game story in US
"This is Moscow, do you hear me? ST,Petersburg? Vladivostok? Voronezh? Novosibirsk? Do you hear me? This is Moscow! We're alive! I don't know if you heard us before... we couldn't hear you. We thought we were the only ones left. We thought... there wasn't anyone else. Nobody and nothing, do you understand? How could you understand? You've been chattering to each other all this time... while we... oh lord, thank god that you're alive! That you're there. Out there... Singing songs. How are you out there? We've been here all these years. Underground. We were afraid even to stick our head out. We thought there was nowhere to go, can you believe that? We had no radio. There were no signals. Some bastard here set up jammers... in Moscow. In Balashikha. And they hid you from us. It was as if it was as if we were deaf. And blind. We sat here for twenty years... I've been here for twenty years, and im only twenty six... sitting here, down under the ground. My name's Artyom. Down in the basement, in the Metro. Did you at least try to find us? I tried to find you... we tried. We thought the whole world had been burnt up, the whole planet... That there ws nowhere to go, to crawl out to... But we still searched, we hoped. How are you... you have dances there... I want to come and see you so much. Can you breathe out there without gasmask? What's your air like? We don't know anything about you. We've spent twenty years here alone. I don't even know why. What for. Why did we sit here in the darkness? Surrounded by concrete? We'll find out who did this to us. We'll smash their fucking jammers. We'll be together again. This is Moscow. We'll be with you, with the whole world. We're alive, do you understand? Everyone's alive, and so are we! Maybe you have relatives here. Forty thousand people survived here. How many of you are there? We'll be a country. We'll live on the surface, like before. Like human beings. I ... There was so much i wanted to say to you. I rehearsed what i was going to say a hundred times in my mind. And now i forgotten it all. I hope you can hear me, at least. I'll speak here for as long as i can. Then they'll probabily switch me off. The people who put up the jammers. Who cut us off from you. they'll come back. We'll try to hold out here for a while. But there are only two of us, and lots of them... The Reds. just don't think that you're imagining this. Or that this is all a joke. I'm real. my name is Artyom. If they kill me, others in Moscow will hear and they'll lead the rest of them out. are you there, Moscow? Hansa? Polis? Everyone who hasnt forgotten yet ... Who else is listening? I'm not the only one. we've been tricked. we've all been tricked. We could have left our shelter a long time ago. and gone wherever we wanted. driving or walking. Anywhere at all. even as far as Paris. Or Ekaterianburg. The Reds hid everything from us. What for? So there wouldn't be any hope? I don't know what for. I can't understand it. We can just ... we can just live now. All up on the surface-and live. Like before. Like human beings. The way people are suppose to live. Live! Do you hear me? There: I haven't gone insane. They're all there; they exist-all of Russia, and Europe, and America ... They're al real! Listen for yourselves! And now we exist, too!" -Artyom
The part where Artyom wakes up after the defense of Hole station and the guitar plays as you look around at all the dead Children of the Underground always gives me goosebumps.
"You can't just hand the gun to the child and expect him to kill this man or this women or that couple, you just can't do it....you just can't but when you hand the gun to the man, the man can decide to do it or can be forced to pull the trigger so tell me are you the child or the man?" The songs made me to post this comment
I was the man who was forced to pull the trigger. I was the only one who walked out without a soul. I was the one who started a conflict that haunts me to this very day. I want to just die and find peace... I don't know if the gods hear me I don't know who's pulling the strings.. I don't know how the system failed us..
2019: Finished metro 2033 redux a couple of hours ago. I must say that the game was phenomenal, far better than I expected it had any right to be. The visual presentation, soundtrack and supernatural themes gave the game a gritty/grounded/realistic post apocalyptic setting, one which merged perfectly with the extra ordinary nature of the dark ones and individuals such as khan. It was all round very depressing but also uplifting in sections, and was never fearful to stray into lighter themes such as the innocence and redemption of man. 8.5/10, would easily be a 9 or 10 if the developers fixed a few graphical and game play bugs I encountered on my play through. Plus the level design felt a little weird in some places, but I assume that is likely due to the original having come out during a different era of games with different consumer expectations. Good game, would play again. If you haven't played this already you should seriously consider doing so. Edit: Also this game has hands down one of the best presentations of the supernatural I have ever witnessed in visual media. None of this bullshit with people throwing fire around, this game has actual subtlety. You arn't desensitised to it, so it is genuinely unnerving when such phenomena occur.
You should do the second game as well. And read the books. Or at least the first book. The second book isn't that good to be honest. I haven't read or played the third game/book so I reserve my judgement until then.
One major aspect that Metro 2033 and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. overtake Fallouts is the sensation (i.e. Slavness), and that's enough for me to stick with Metro 2033 and S.T.A.L.K.E.R., and of course, stay cheeki breeki

I remember when I was just a kid, my first game of the series was Last Light. The colours and the ambients were so different from all the other games I had played that I felt like I was inside Lubyanka, crawling under the shadow to not get spotted. Artyom really grew up on me and I enjoyed all three games and dlcs, completing them at every difficulty. Now I'm not a kid anymore, but I'm always ready to die, for even just a crumb of hope. Now I'm reading the books, listening to Metro songs, hoping a nosalis won't come out from under my bed..
8 years.... 8 years this game’s been out. I opened it up again to just playthrough it again. 8 years old and it still gives me chills. The graphics, the narrative, the environment, etc. Everything in this game feels intentional and meant to be placed where it was just to maximize our experience playing it, enemy placement, soundtracks when the hit at the right time, weapon sounds, hell even the outhouses just to show how grim this future is. There really isn’t another game like Metro 2033, the fact that this game is based off an amazing book and given it justice not only for respect of it’s literary achivement. But the game also accomplishes many technical aspects that makes it stand out as a game. The fact this game is 8 years old, and it still looks fucking beautiful in all its darkness and grim themes. Such an amazing game and I’m proud to be a fan of this series.

Every day we're getting closer and closer to witness this in person alot of us will not live to see whats it like living in the post apocalyptic world but one thing is certain it'll be hell for the survivors to live in there as it is a fate worse than death
eventhough at the moment i've been 4 years old, but i can clearly remember how my uncle played that game and when i've tried to play it was dreadful at the moment. I love how the whole metro soundtrack is based in the same key and theme tune throughout. Yet each track is all it’s own too, with its own suspense and feeling to suit each mood/ scenario. At first I thought that it was cheeky, but the more I listened to the tracks the more I realised just how genius the whole composition was!. to be able to tell a different story with a handful of the same chords and notes, as a guitarist I’m impressed still years later noticing small things, expressions, note add’s.ect…. It continues to boggle, suspend, impress and inspire me to keep going with my own music. Brill🇬🇧🤘🤘
Well maybe not the whole album persei. But at least several of the tracks and orchestral theme is based around the same key and theme tune. Ether way genius and inspiring!!
First found this back in my Senior year of highschool in 2015 and listened to it at home as I worked on writing a Universe of Metro 2033 fanfiction back then. This game got me into playing guitar. In fact, the song that starts 4:30 was my very first song I learned. I memorized it so much, that whenever I pick up a new guitar I play this out to test it's sound.
This music makes me feel something I can't explain using words, it's amazing... Like Happy and at the same time a cherry of agony, even makes me concentrate better...
Рекомендую послушать main theme Far cry new dawn (версия на гитаре).

+tadoxlado wow I never knew there were other books aside from 2033 & 2034
I like to think that the guitar music in each of the games is Artyom playing as he reads his old journals and reminisces about his time in the Metro.
Thank you so much for adding that to my headcannon.
For me that is canon now. Nevermind me getting the bad ending in "Last Light"
but he actually narrates it in real time, not knowing whats ahead of him, what we see on loading screen is his journal which you can read in exodus while exploring aurora
@@kajwis2675 He narrates in real time because he's reading from the journal he wrote during the events of the game, the narration itself is implied to be a much older Artyom
Since Anna and Artyom eventually have a child, it seems inevitable that he'd eventually read said journal to this child.
While between chapters he'd pick up the guitar and strum a melody from the Metro every once in a while.

If we won't stop fighting each other that is our future but maybe there will be no dark ones to help us.
In the book the missiles killed them. :(
This game, its lore, everything.....so underrated, to a point its almost criminal. An Absolute masterpiece.
13 years and its still better then anything i have heard
Damn master piece of a game, honestly wish STALKER had the same quality of graphics, I could REALLY get into it then.
Install texture mods man. They make all the STALKER games 100X better.
You can try out the "Misery" mod for Call of Pripyat. Its hardcore and great-looking masterpiece mod, I really enjoyed it!

Epic Games may break our spirits, they may try to stop us. But I just got Metro Exodus on the PS4 today. Ha!
@ LOL hoover dam try the battle of D6

For the republic !
Every day we're getting closer and closer to witness this in person alot of us will not live to see whats it like living in the post apocalyptic world but one thing is certain it'll be hell for the survivors to live in there as it is a fate worse than death
So I'm here from time to time and it feels good everytime.
eventhough at the moment i've been 4 years old, but i can clearly remember how my uncle played that game and when i've tried to play it was dreadful at the moment. Yet still i can't say that my late childhood memories are so clear but i can say that most of them are drilled into my mind so i have some kind of bond with this game and when i've played it in my 12 years it felt like home, so yeah the fact that this video is 13 years is hitting like a sledgehammer into the head. I SWEAR TO GOD IT WAS ONLY 8 YEARS AGO !
This game was awesome!!
It still is
god damn the feelings just back in me. I feel alone fighting those bitches.. Wait! you call it mutants, i call them bitches
my most hated part is probably when i have to hold a position but some of those bastards are scripted knock your ass particularly
The book is even better, my friend!
It is the closest you can get to a Half-Life 3....
I love the fact that he thanked for 2k views in the description, now it's 4M :D
🤓
First found this back in my Senior year of highschool in 2015 and listened to it at home as I worked on writing a Universe of Metro 2033 fanfiction back then. Now, I'm listening to it as I read Roadside Picnic, the book that coined the stalker profession for Metro and the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games. I even listen to it as I roam the Zone in Stalker 2.
@Roman Bellic +,

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and METRO have to be the greatest games and communities ive been apart of, they have similarities which compliment well with each other, despite the negative history of both company's towards each other. Both games give a unforgettable experience that breaks through hearts still over a decade later.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R game i never played but Metro has a fucking good story and atmosphere
@@mat3x0 if you like metro, you would probably like stalker as well, but stalker needs a little more patience

I have just finished reading the trilogy. This soundtrack followed me through the whole journey. It was a unique wild ride. To anyone who wants to read the trilogy It is worth it by far. I think you will have a good time reading and I hope you will learn something from it.
"we live by legends, and not by bread alone"
This game got me into playing guitar. In fact, the song that starts 4:30 was my very first song I learned. I memorized it so much, that whenever I pick up a new guitar I play this out to test it's sound.
This music makes me feel something I can't explain using words, it's amazing... Like Happy and at the same time a cherry of agony, even makes me concentrate better...
This thing made me start to play guitar...
It’s been a while and it’s just so nice to remember it again.
Рекомендую послушать main theme Far cry new dawn (версия на гитаре).

me: Metro 2033 - Guitar sountrack
Started playing metro a few days ago. I finished metro 2033 and I’m now on last light.
It’s part of those very few games or sagas that left a definitive mark in my head and one of the deepest I’ve ever played.
“The one who has the courage and patience to stare his whole life into the darkness, will be the first to see a glimmer of light” - Khan Metro 2033(book)...just genius...
