    are raven guard dreadnoughts a thing?

    • @GrimDarkHalfOff
      @GrimDarkHalfOff  Рік тому +20

      Yes they are. Though only used rarely. Tactically speaking they function similarly to a Deliverer in the sense they are a surprise towards enemies that become accustomed to fighting stealth operatives with a big explosive attack. The former master of shadows before Kayvaan is currently in one.

      @@GrimDarkHalfOff interesting i would not have guessed the raven guard to actually use dreadnoughts .i normally see them as a ultramarine or ironhand kind of thing.

      @@matthewflynnthegladiatorof6787 I agree, it's pretty weird. I think it has to do with the ultramarine influence from the Codex Astartes. I'll pin your comment because this information in this conversation wasn't in the video, thanks for asking!

      @Ceiling_Gato Рік тому +19

      There's a common misconception about Raven Guard (a meme, really) that all they do is sneaking in a ton of power armor. That's 50% of the job. Sabotage, assassination and misdirection are their primary methods of war, yes, but they use these tactics to throw enemy forces into confusion. Once the enemy is leaderless, weakened and cut away from reinforcements, they utilize rapid insertions with dreadnoughts, terminators, Aggressors and tanks to finish them off with a killing blow. Their 9th company also specializes in overwhelming firepower per Corax's teaching of "stealth is all right but once shit goes down, you need to shoot your way out of it" so it is perfectly fine to include heavy weaponry, dreadnoughts and intercessors into your RG force.

    • @stankobarabata2406
      @stankobarabata2406 Рік тому +5

      Plus Dreadnoughts aren't just machines of war. They're the ancient remnants of their chapters, some of which trace back to the time when they were legions. They're as much engines of destruction as they are repositories of knowledge, traditions and battle tactics. They are, for lack of a better word, the SOUL of a chapter in many ways. So even for chapters like Raven Guard and White Scars, who seem to not really favor dreadnought battle usage, the Dreadnoughts still serve a major purpose and are treated with just as much respect as any other chapter would.

    In the Primarchs video I determined that Corvus was my favorite. This has not only confirmed it, but if i ever truly get into warhammer 40k and I can't get a hold of some Eldar I am fully willing to make a Raven guard army. If i remembered the others I could list the competition that could have been my favorite Primarch but I am pretty much sold on this one.

    I'm going to say something that's taboo.
    I was not necessarily dealt a great Hand by Fate and I am correcting that with TRT right now.
    It really feels like I am going through the closest someone can currently get to going through Space Marine training and transformation.
    I was always athletic but I was never good and no matter how hard I worked I always looked doughy.
    That's changing now, I really do think that I was just testosterone deficient when I went through puberty.
    Man, I really should have done this in high school my life would be very different.

    I’m just getting to this video now, but there is A LOT of psychoanalytic symbolism about the effects of the father on his sons n the relationship between the Night Lord’s and Raven Guard
    Both legions had a similar function prior to their respective father’s arrival. Yet Corvus saw the RG for what they could be, and discarded those who represented the worst excesses of the legion, and challenged them to be better: A.K.A the loving and wise father
    Konrad Cruze hated The Night Lords and thus fed their bloodlust and enabled their sadism and cruelty. A.K.A the aloof and uncaring father

Sanguinius had that Aragorn vibe, and the Khan was with Corax in the "work harder not smarter" camp of primarchs.(Seriously read "Scars" and "Pathway of Heaven," by the end of those books you'll love the Khan and his sons)

    Raven guard artolie underrated and they are my favorite Legion. Everybody thinks of them as the emo Marines, but that's just because most legions have become caricatures of what they actually are. The Raven guard have the compassion of the salamanders, a cool berserker rage like the blood angels and the humility of the white scars. People think that the alpha Legion is the stealthiest but I would argue they are the most deceptive. It is the Raven guard who are truly the stealthiest of the legions.
    Take this all into account and add the fact that they are freedom fighters who put fear into the tyrants who oppress the common Man and you got yourself a badass legion.

    Fantastic video,
    As someone whose enjoyed the structuring of your Conan videos, I greatly appreciated that structure applied to this setting(and legion).
    Going through the video, Im curious over what there is to say about Coraxs depression, as it relates to his immortality and the human(mortal) connections hes made along the way(namely, in respect to his mortal adopted sister) i cant imagine immortality helping his mental state. But that could lead into a whole different conversation about mortals & immortals interacting.
    Anyway thanks again. Would love to see this template applied to the Iron Warriors, Blood angels, and Death Guard.

    Ravenguard is my 2nd favorite after DarkAngels.
    Hopefully, Corax will return to the setting in an awesome heroic way.

    It was Baldermorts description of the Raven Guard that made me fall in love with them. The counter to both Alpha Legion and night lords. Where those operate on infiltration and fear, RG literally own the darkness. Where the stealth units would take out the command structure only for the rest of the Astartes to swoop in like a murder of Crows. That and totally not demon Corvus Corax hunting Lorgar and what he's become.
    It's something I've used in my own homebrew, Crimson Raptors, while using a norse theme to reflect the relationship between wolves and ravens irl

    I fonund during my study of the Herresy era lore, i really enjoyed Corvus Corax and vulkan. My all time favorite space Marines are the Grey Knights! Im a huge fan of Garro and Malcador. I did find it odd that Corvus and Angron both came from Slave cultures but were totally different (likely due at least in part to the buchers nails.)

    I think the Salamnders are good also, went they? and honedtly the space Wolves almost went to war with the inquisition over killing civilians who had been exposed to the warp. If i am remembering correctly. I could be wrong but i seem to remember that story. In honesty the only reason for the council of Nikea was to totally piss off and all over the word bearers, at least thats how i saw the whole council story.

    I don’t believe the powers he has developed are transmutation based, but rather illusionary. Previously he could hide his presence and image now he can change or enhance his appearance to mislead or overwhelm his opponents. Lorgar sees through this and says he’s no demon. I definitely believe he is ascended much like the lion. I think the loyalist primarchs are gonna have relatively simplistic powers compared to the demon primarchs. And then to even the playing field they will rely on their relationship with their sons and the emperors relics to channel his strength. Guilliman is probably going to be the last to ascend as he’s been too overwhelmed with holding the imperium together rather than working on his own faults as he relies too greatly on them.

    I find it will be really cool if they are worship the god emperor. Chapter who have a spiritual vision of emperor more understandable and human and also more reliable. Space sharks who parabley related to raven gurds are also see emperor ass a mythological figure known as void father.

    I like all the legions to some extent but the temperate and understated sons of midnight have never really appealed to me on a personal level so I'm hoping this might change my mind! (btw I consider myself a lorehead though my friends might replace head with master if you're at all interested in some free consulting I'd be more then happy to give it a shot if you want that level of accuracy for your style of content and plan on doing more 40K in the future)
