Mike you need to play both Megaman 1 and 3 as well. When you complete them you get to play the Wily Tower game which is an aditional Wily Castle stage that allows you to pick and choose from all weapons from Megaman 1 to 3. It's pretty fun.
Hey Mike, try this on Sega Genesis Mini. It runs at 60hz refresh rate and does not have the slow downs you experienced. Much smoother and fun experience. Some of the games like mega Man 1 are harder with the removal of the glitches as well like the pause glitch.
He doesn't realize hes on difficult mode for the NES version he undoubtedly plays on normal mode on NES which actually easy mode in Japan. Wily Wars doesnt have a difficulty select for some reason.

Yeah it's not a perfect port, the controls feel just a bit off, but if you weren't familiar with the NES original you probably wouldn't notice. I still think the game is great and love the redone graphics and music. Wily's Tower was a genius idea, hope you live stream that in the future!
I've heard that in the Wily Wars version of MM1, if you lose to the Yellow Devil, you can't refill your weapon energy so you either need to beat him with just the mega buster or start the stage again.
I've never played this before, but it looks incredibly slow compared to the NES version. His movements, the amount you can shoot, etc. And the bosses not only look slower, but it looks like you have to shoot them a LOT more. Also, not a fan of the music.
I have the Mega Drive version and I really don't remember it being that laggy. The problem with the jerky movement did annoy me though. Also, I'm mostly hearing "Wah wah, this isn't the same as the NES version. I can't beat it as easily as I used to be able to.". Git gud brah!
Well if it was going to be the exact same as the NES version, then what would be the point of making it? I feel as though a lot of Mike's criticisms were that it wasn't the same as the NES, which is what annoyed me. Of course it wouldn't be the exact same. I do agree though that it could have and should have been a lot better. It feels like a rushed release.

Nonsense, Wily Wars plays great! I usually like what I've seen of Mike but I can't agree with him at all here, Wily Wars is awesome. It's only 'bad' if you've got extreme muscle memory for the original and are thrown off by minor engine differences.

There is one aspect of this game that's a lot easier on Wily Wars than the NES originals. The knock back when you get hit is a lot less extreme. I remember I had trouble against the dragon in Wily 1 on the NES because whenever the dragon hit me, I'd be knocked off the block unless I was all the way on the left on the blocks, but in this version it's more forgiving.
Mike was asking if that robot rabbit took 5 Metal blades in the NES version. Yes, but in Difficult mode, it seems this Genesis version is on difficult by default(?).
Crimson Skeletons The original Japanese version (Rockman 2) only had the Difficult mode. It only read "Press Start" on the title screen, like this one does. Developers added the _Normal_ mode internationally, which as far as I know means double damage for your weapons against enemies and bosses, and those column enemies get destroyed in one hit instead of breaking apart and reforming. I guess this version based it on the original version.

This is the PAL Version. Thats why its slow. The USA version was only released on Sega Channel The download service for Genesis. You can only get the USA version through Repros
They didn't shorten the levels, and the issues with it feeling slower is because it intended to run at 50 fps since its a PAL game...and for fuck sake Mike, you were in the wrong spot for the chickens to jump over you, they dont jump over you because you stop, you have to stop before they jump.
It was indeed frustrating to not be able to tell you that 2 Fully charged Heat Shots kill Wood Man or how Air Man is Blowing away your leaves and you have to use Wood mans weapons when he moves from the right to left. And yes it's that way in the NES one too... This is the same difficulty as difficult on The NES one. You kept shooting half charged Heat Shots. you made the fight way harder than it is. Wood Man is Easy. :P
On Wily 5, I tried using my general NES strategy, so beating the eight robot bosses was pretty easy, but I usually used quick boomerangs to beat the second form of Wily. When I found out that boomerangs don't work and I was low on metal blades, I looked up to see if Wily had a different weakness in Wily Wars (he does). In the end, I decided to use the charged heat shots against Wily instead of Wood Man, which ended up making the stage a lot harder because without Heat Man's weapon I take a lot of damage against Wood Man.
did you know if you finish all three games you unlock a fourth game called Wiley's Tower, where you get to choose your weapon loadout from all 3 games and go against new levels and 3 new robot masters?
I tested the moving thing in both games. They're actually the same, both have Megaman have a slight delay when taking off from a standstill, BUT the Genesis version is slower, so there's more of a noticeable delay which really throws me off.

He is right. The developers didn't make the best use of the colors but instead got lots of grey and re-use the same colors for foreground and background graphics. Some stages look nice many however look dull. I wonder what a proper Genesis remake of classic Mega Man could look like.
Hey Mike! Have you ever heard of Rockman Complete Works? They are PS1 collections that emulate nes Megaman 1-6 and include a couple of extras. Since it is PS1 there isn't slowdown nor sprite flickering. They were the basis for the Anniversary Collection and later Legacy Collection. However, no other version has pocketstation support with which you can level up Megaman and the main bosses to level 99 and make the game extremely easy or slightly harder. Leveling up increases both offense and amount of health. Anyway, that's all for now, bye.

Man I was so disappointed by this port. The music sounds muffled & flat, there are slowdowns everywhere and the controls are sluggish. The graphics are not even all that much better than the NES. Stick with the NES games.

All it does it make you wait a few frames before you start running. Megaman takes a small step before he starts moving. If you are already running and turn around he will not stop. But if you stop for an instance he will always take a small step before running again. It is not Lag, it not input lag, it is a game "feature" that was not in the NES versions. It was meant to help you get close to the edge as possible without falling off. They had the CASUALS in mind.. and not the Retro-Elite. What a shame.
theimporter yeah it's a bit weird cos the Genesis was usually way better in terms of lack of slowdown compared to the SNES. The main issue with this is they didn't put their A-team onto it to make sure it was completely optimized. Mega Man has always been kind of shunned by Capcom. They made mega man 2 in their spare time because they weren't allowed to make it a proper capcom project.

It was very frustrating to see that they changed the weakness for Wood Man, and how difficult he is to beat. This is true of nearly all bosses actually, but moreso Wodd Man.
I really don't like the sound. The original sounds like a cross between an analog synth, with basic waveforms (kinda like oscilloscope music) mixed with a PC speaker. A lot of the music emerges because of the limitations of the system. Bubbleman and,the robot music sound ok but metalman, stage select, robot intro just sound plain. Same goes for the sound effects. As an electronic engineer I would say this music is basically embedded system music and given the personality of megaman it makes perfect sense. But general midi is just that generic. That said for something like Castlevania any sound improvement enhances the experiencr but here we have a dilution of the metallic, thin, and abrasive machine sound. It's a cool game and I would love to play. Its just this really caught my attention and would take it into consideration when composing my own chiptunes for example
The music on this is awful. It sounds really tinny and bizarrely distant. I didn't even grow up with NES, and you can tell the NES track is better within seconds.

The slowdown is most likely because it would be running at 50hz instead of 60hz since it is a PAL and not NTSC..
It doesn't matter if you play a PAL game in an NTSC console, it will run at 60 hz still.

Donald, Goofy and Mickey are big parts of the Kingdom Hearts story so I'm almost positive they will speak alot in cut scenes.

On MM2 Wily boss, he consistently jumps directly into the balls almost every time. That has nothing to do with the "moving glitch" he keeps describing. How bout just not jump into the balls? Git gud.
The Genesis is messing with this games sound track.
It was poorly composed by Minakuchi Engineering; the Genesis is capable of far better audio than this.

Music sounds good graphics are a step up a bit I dunno looks good great game
It was very frustrating to see that they changed the weakness for Wood Man, and how difficult he is to beat. This is true of nearly all bosses actually, but moreso Wodd Man.
I really don't like the sound. The original sounds like a cross between an analog synth, with basic waveforms (kinda like oscilloscope music) mixed with a PC speaker. A lot of the music emerges because of the limitations of the system. Bubbleman and,the robot music sound ok but metalman, stage select, robot intro just sound plain. Same goes for the sound effects.
As an electronic engineer I would say this music is basically embedded system music and given the personality of megaman it makes perfect sense. But general midi is just that generic.
That said for something like Castlevania any sound improvement enhances the experiencr but here we have a dilution of the metallic, thin, and abrasive machine sound.
It's a cool game and I would love to play. Its just this really caught my attention and would take it into consideration when composing my own chiptunes for example

The music on this is awful. It sounds really tinny and bizarrely distant. I didn't even grow up with NES, and you can tell the NES track is better within seconds.
