    Had to upload a first video sometime, so why not one featuring another great rant by Charlie Brooker ...
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Dear Imbeciles,
    Thanks to your hard work, Rebecca Black, who you dismissed as a hopeless wannabe, is now a bona fide megastar. Look, here she is on a brilliant edition of The Tonight Show with Jay Leno - just like you'll never be.
    See, she's famous, perhaps you'd like a picture of that image to hang on your wall, so you can look at it every morning before going to work in the shitty mega-chain burger outfit you'll be trapped in forever; selling Happy Meals with Rebecca Black's face on, and as you pass these to Customers - who, accurately, look at you like you're nothing - you'll hear Rebecca Black's song looping on the in-store muzak system while you slave away behind the counter five days a week from Monday through to Friday, Friday, you gotta get down on Friday, cos that's the day you mop the fucking floor.

    It was always silly to hate on Rebecca for Friday, because she didn't write the song, she didn't direct the video, she didn't personally pay for any of it, and she wasn't the one responsible for autotuning it to high heaven. If anything, she was one of the last people to be blaming for the song and video, not least because SHE WAS ONLY 13.
    It's even stupider that even now, I see people hating on Rebecca, and posting abusive and hurtful comments on her personal youtube videos, all because of this one song. If we all took something you created or took part in when you were 13 and judged you for it for the rest of your life, it'd be terrible. Just look at anything at all with your name or image on it from when you were 13 or 14. Is it awful? Is it embarrassing? Do you want to throw it into the nearest fire? Almost definitely yes. But do you want to fling yourself into the nearest fire after seeing it? Hopefully no, because everyone does stupid stuff when they're 13. Every. Single. Person. Rebecca just got unlucky and had hers put on the internet.

    • @nightmare-qn6mo
      @nightmare-qn6mo 9 років тому

      SciFiFangirlsFTW Well at least we didn't post these creations we made when are 14 years old in the internet. And looking at the stuff she makes now is bland and didn't even evolved. The awful things we made when we were 13 maybe was posted for the people to compare us now to the us in the past to show how much better we became. Sometimes we remake them to show what these creations would have turn out at full potential.

    Can't believe I'm having to point this out but obviously the audience laugh at commenters calling Black a whore because of the ridiculousness and disproportionate vitriol of the insult, not because they find it an amusing or apposite description; issue those who bought tickets to see such figures as Brooker and Mitchell with some credit. Also, for what it's worth, Brooker is demonstrably hypocritical in his dealings with the subject of bullying here, as he has been time and again throughout his television oeuvre of over a decade, but I personally still idolise him more than I do any other public figure; his work has changed my entire view on the media and on life in general, and we all have our foibles

    Amusing but there's no consistency to this message. It's not okay to belittle her, but it's okay to belittle everyone else? She's a celebrity and you'll never be, but her singing has no merit? So what are we to take from this? That success in and of itself is a virtue and shouldn't be questioned? I would agree that it's wrong to attack someone, especially a kid, unprovoked, but to respond by attacking Bieber and the people who did the 'bullying' only undermines the point being made.

    @jewellia7777 You could say the money she earns is compensation as many of the teens that have been harming her, could have been taken to court and fined.

    @dopingbjarne I agree. If there are 10 million bullies on social networking sites harming 40 percent of teenagers Rebecca Black would make a good target for bullies to go to. She is a very good looking young teen which would make her a good target for jealousy. Plus a lot of resentment because her mum did something for her. Of all those bullies they would be egging many others on to help them out in their hate. "Shallow, rich whores " to me that speaks of jealousy and hence the hatred.

    @TheRealDerfMan Uh, no I am capable of my own opinions, I posted this because it's funny and it echo's my own thoughts on the matter.
    Nothing I've said shows I'm against freedom of speech, I refer you to an earlier comment of mine beginning "It's the difference between criticism and bullying...".
    If you think hateful bullying of a young girl is justifed as 'freedom of speech' or it's just simple criticism, then I would suggest WTF is wrong with you?

    I agree Andrew, there are plenty of worse songs on Utube, yet they get high likes by teens such as this one
    Eminem- Cold Wind Blows yet i hear no complaints from the media about those. It has far worse lyrics. I think most of the hatred comes from Jealousy.

    @harlinmaee I disagree with ten millions bullies online harming 40 percent of teenagers in USA it's starting to become a very learned behaviour that is increasing and not being stamped out. No one wants to get bullied or asks for it, yet what your trying to do is justify bullying which is entirely wrong. Most of us as parents install good values in our children and prevent them bullying others. This isn't happening in USA as you can see by that comedian he seems to be encouraging it to.

  • @chavrons1
    @chavrons1 13 років тому

    @harlinmaee No they don't. Teens need to learn, to talk to others how they would talk to them face to face.
    What teens lack is empathy, that is the inability to feel the pain in others, that their words can hurt.
    There are thousands of teens online that have videos of them singing. With 10 million bullies harming 40 percent of teens on social networking sites another good looking teen would attract all the bullies because places such as Utube would make them thrive.

    i hear where you are about this: this was a majorly over-trolled harsh. how about "Burberry Blue Eyes"? i keep being left with the feeling that what's going in is that the Rebecca Blacks of the scene just don't come from this world and just them being here causes venomy backlashes on behalf of artists of real talent that won't get a break because someone's paying for things like that. Where's the line? i can't call it. i just turned the damn radio off *shrug*

      Reading the T&Cs of a contract, for a job you know full well what involves, and agreeing to work for a set hourly rate? That's not being forced, that's free will. Most poeple call that "applying for a job"...

    Who gives a shit if it's the worst song ever recorded. Don't listen to it if you don't like it. The point is that you shouldn't attack her just because of the fact. If she runs you over in her car deliberately then you can attack her because then she's actually done something that is evil. Why don't people have avfunctioning sense of fucking proportion.

    "She sounds like a wasp trapped inside a polystyrene cup, rasping the words..."
    "Also, bullying people is wrong! It's not funny! I can do it because I'm a professional troll, but for everyone else it's heinous!"
    I remember when Charlie Brooker made a chilling documentary about the guilt of 24 hour rolling-media in encouraging mass-shootings, and his beautifully sweet and moving tribute to Oliver Postgate. 10'o'Clock Live was one of the worst circle-jerking egofests masquerading as a topical comedy show that that I've not watched in a long, long time. Brooker can do so, so much better than this stunted, right-on tedium.

    Pretty closed-minded of you to think all those hateful comments were JUST bullying. There is nothing wrong with someone like me who's looking for accountability. AGAIN, if someone wants to put out shit, they should be able to take criticism. I think she's old enough to realize what she was doing. Then again, maybe not. How old do you have to be until you start taking responsibility for your actions? Her parents and whoever wrote the song should take some responsibility, but they clearly aren't.
