Thank you sooo much!! You would not believe how many videos I have been looking at to figure out my issue. Mower cranks, starter turns, but ride on will not start. Dodgy PTO switch seemingly getting in the way of it all working. Machine non-responsive for couple months, fixed by pulling PTO up and knocking it closed with a hard whack. Starts immediately. 👍🙏
Nice video to learn from I know I had a Riding lawn mower few weeks back would not do nothing when you hit the key . checked every safety switch on it. Come to find out that switch that plugs in the hood lights the black wire was broken. Hood was shut on it I guess. Thanks for the video.
Just make sure you check all your safety switches. I literally had the same problem this morning. Except mine wasn't doing anything when I turned the key I was pretty convinced I had a locked up starter but I played with the switches and still nothing and then I went over the switches one more time and lo and behold it was one of the safety switches on the control arm on the mower
@@youtubestar thanks for the advise. I did check the seat safely switch, no change there. It's a 2005 JD that was given to me. Ever since I got it 2 years ago, when I turn the key to off, it takes 2 full seconds before it starts shutting off. Always thought that was odd, so I'm hoping it's the ignition switch finally giving out
Got the new switch installed. It wasn't the switch. I also ordered a new electronic control unit module. It runs again. I was shocked, that part is $89.
I have a mower that the coil keeps going out on. The coils I’ve gotten are new and match the owners manual part number. What can cause this issue? I never thought to meter the new coil for continuity, can they just be junk from the start? I didn’t hook up the kill wire on the last new coil and it still never sparked. My gap is set correct on both coil and plug. Am I missing something?
I have an issue with a chainsaw and I am fresh out of options. Spark was intermittent so I cleaned the coil contacts. I now have good spark and I cleaned the carburetor, but the part that bewilders me is I usually spray starter fluid in the carb to determine a carb problem but it won't kick even when I spray with starting fluid. There is some scoring on the piston head and wondering if it could be that, but wouldn't it at least kick and stall?
I have an old toro proline and I have been told it has an ignitor? It doesn’t have a starter, I have to pull start it and it seems to not have spark. It worked the night before and the next day, nothing?
Anyone who doesn’t want to die while mowing a steep hill on their property and the mower flips over. Are they annoying? Yea sure. Is annoyed better than dead? Every day of every week.
Ive got a vtwin briggs 14hp, and it started having an intermittent sparking issues, so i striped all the covers off and inspected for rust, which there was,(not causing the problem) so cleaned it all up and put back together, and still no spark. so i disconnected that wire, and there was spark. So i made up a new wire to connect it up, and still no spark . I then disconnected the kill wire from the engine to the machine, and still no spark, so thats not my problem the equipment on the machine is fine lol its like the coils dont like each other and don't like being joined in any way it dosnt make a difference to wich side you take off it will spark so im gathering its coils 😑😑
Guys like you are the DIY's go to in diagnosing problems such as this, thanks for not being a turd and taking the time to help people out.
Thank you for your support and tuning in it is definitely appreciated

Your video saved me $65 on not having to purchase a new coil. Thanks again Rob for kindly sharing your expertise with us.
Simple and easy to follow - guy knows his stuff!
Great diagnosis, simple but effective!
This totally helped me out today. Thanks brother!
Thanks Rob. Smarter everyday.
Ck anything related to stopping engine!!! You said it all in 1 sentence

I just found out my choke spring was missing..
I would have been stuck without this vid!
Thank you for your video, I is very helpful for all of us ❤❤❤❤❤❤
I'm fighting this same issue, thanks man
I ended up ordering a new off brand ignition switch. We'll see...

VERY VERY GOOD INFO.

Thank you very much mower is running and it didn't cost 800
Would this work for a scooter or no?
I'm not a mechanic but had my uncle help & I had a loose nut to the stator or something that fixed my mower. So must've vibrated loose
What if your seat switch for a gravely has 3 wires? How to test or jump that out?
Very informative thank you

Hi what do I do if I still don't have spark with a brand coil and that ground unplugged and a brand new spark plug??
Check your fuses. Ignition switch. All the wiring. You said it's a brand new coil?
Yea I put it on there gapped it still didn't have spark??@@youtubestar
Make sure metal to metal contact between coil and engine is clean of oxidation and contaminates before bolting coil on engine.

*First thing I do on a new/old machine is bypass the seat switch. Who wants the engine to die every time you jump off to open a field gate?*

Sherlock Holmes of engines etc!
Good info, thanks man!
I got a 94 ford with spark but the spark is yellow. why? will not run even though the spark plugs fire but has yellow fire, not blue.
Buy a multimeter! A simple circuit test can make all the difference.
