    I’ve worked on car engines since I was 14, I’ll be 69 in a couple days. I worked in several auto machine shops in the 1970’s. This is one of the coolest engine projects I’ve seen. 👍🏼
    Whoever wins that Duster is going to have one hell of a car!

    Nice work, I am 64, hot rod blood love my Mopars but have played with them all over the years, this a really cool motor build reminds me of the 1977 stock car engine that is super hard to find they were kits from Mopar Performance 355 stroker, i still think I would have used an old-style poly 318 cranks forged cranks little heavy and yes the machine work is never fun but worth it . cant wait for number

    I'll never forget driving in my friend's early 70's duster that he inherited from his dad, it had something insane like 600k kilometers on it on the original engine, which smoked, but it still drove with minimal maintenance... 600k... original motor

I've been watching him for years and don't try to talk to him other than leave an occasional public comment on one of his posts. If i lived closer id go too his events and meet him personally then!! It's awesome you got to do something for him and holy cow you all did more than just a little something. Im going to try and buy some stuff off his merch site on the 3rd as i get my check then but ill try and get a few tickets for the duster give away as id love to have one of your motors. ive been doing body work and paint for 40 yrs and can fix the duster rite back upand hey i help derek with his razor blade trick for the clear run removal!!!!! he almost as it,he only needs to lput one wrap of 3/4 tape around the very end of each side of the razor blade to protect from the edge of the blade digging into the clear.. thank you all for the many hours to make and edit the great vjdeo and give us and the lucky new owner of the duster a little insight on what all went into the custom,one of one bullet in between the frame rails of the Duster!!!! Thank you again sirs!!!!!!!

    Very cool! On the print out at the top under comments ,its noted detonation likely, piston speed extremely high......would this not be a good combination ? I understand the requirement for good parts .What piston speed would be considered too high? excellent channel !

    • @paragonengines1924
      @paragonengines1924  Рік тому +1

      Depends on the combination of parts, but on the higher end stuff, 5500 ft/min is about normal. And the detonation just means it is running on the border of knock to make the most power.

      The ramp rates on Hughes cams are very nice for a hft, they may not have the roller or the ability to run a non zddp oil but they're effective. Remember not Mopar guy .904 is the lifter diameter for Mopar that allows for more than Chevy and Ford which is better than Chevy to get away with on cam ramp designs

    @brianf694 Рік тому +4

      I don't think the piston is listed in their catalog, so it won't show up. If you want a set, I can get you some. I honestly don't know the PN for the rods, because they come out of the motors we rebuild. I can get you a set of those also if you want.

    I get the idea of the viper rods as they are lighter and probably stronger, than the old 318 stuff. But here's an interesting alternative, Chevy 5.7" connecting rods. Why would i consider shortening the Rod? Because you can offset grind the crank to the chevy 5.7 rod size and lose nothing on the piston height (same exact piston pin height) while getting a higher stroke Making this thing a real grunt machine. I have heard of this being used in some circle track builds, my machinist used it for a season and said it was wicked but too torquey, and it's considered a budget stroker build for a lot of mopar faithful

    • @paragonengines1924
      @paragonengines1924  Рік тому +1

      The viper rods are 6.221 in length. You would have to offset grind the crank .260" in order to make up the difference in rod length. I think you might have misplaced a 0 somewhere, but I like where your head is at!

    • @crazylarryjr
      @crazylarryjr Рік тому +2

      @@paragonengines1924, Did not catch the fact that the viper Rods were longer, sorry about that. I know the LA rods are also over 6" (6.125 to be exact i think), did not realize the vipers were even longer, Sorry about that. I do know that as far as stock length LA rods this has been done, even on a cast crank with a little heat treating. My mentality in my suggestion is using as many stock parts as possible while gaining max increases and power. This way if something does happen, it's relatively easy to get replacement parts

    Why not call it a 350 Mopar? Chevy people run around promoting 383 Chevys. I am less a fan of calling it an LS 318. Given its been bored and stroked and really no longer a 318 anyways why not call it a 350 Mopar? If its done right it will eat most any 350 or 383 Chevy for breakfast lunch and Dinner with stock head castings on them and even some with aluminum heads.
