I built 2 of these in 1980 and 1999..by myself too. My dad helped from time to time as be was 80 yrs. Old..these projects take a long time by yourself. But i enjoyed it as I was 35 yrs old. I am now 70 yrs old and my building days are over. I am retired. This video shows a man & his family building a Great shed. Follow his construction ideas and you will have a great shed... Good Luck & Be safe.. this is Building America....
Beautiful project, beautiful people with their children, And a dogo inspector. And the dogo inspector has to be everywhere,to make sure all ok. Thanks for sharing. God bless you and family.
+1. . A Big Balls project well done, single-handedly no less. . Whoa! . Critical Path all the way. ... Great video as we we're sure to share this with our daughter. . "Follow your dream, it is all possible". . The organic supply of timbers must carry a lotta weight as in fond memories. . Viewing your project video sparked my attention of completing the electrical enhancement in our garage. . Gotta zoom. . Build safe, be safe. . Cheers, Vail, Colorado
What a beautiful building! Incredible on the amount of pure persistence it took to construct that while mostly working alone and the constant thought process. Very impressed!
Fantastic outcome. Not only did you self build an amazing barn, you also produced an amazing video. I thoroughly enjoyed each step. Thank you for sharing.
This has been a great watch and I'm glad you got your children on board. Experiences like this are not only great bonding mechanisms, but just immersing oneself in the workflow required is such a valuable piece of experience to have
EXCELLENT Video! Thank you. I've done a lot of DIY 2x4 framing and building, and now I'm considering a pole barn. This was the BEST informational DIY video that I have seen on the topic. You clearly did your homework and you did a great job talking through the steps involved in building this very standard pole barn. It's a huge project in and of itself, but then you went and added the tasks of capturing helpful videos and also producing a very fine video. Everything you have done here is WELL DONE! Thank you for sharing.
Good on you for knowing when to call professionals or help a lot of guys would just work themselves to death fighting the roof panels to probably have them crooked by the end love I’ve built a few pole barns myself and this was the first video I’ve seen where I can say everything was done correctly all the way to how you cut the panels
Hi Peter, all I can say is amazing work. I purchased a 3.5 acre building lot 7 years ago, and just found out it’s registered as a farm. I’m told I can build a pole barn. (I will be building a house when I retire in 5 years or sooner.) But pole barn first. So happy I came across your Chanel. I’ll sure be watching all your videos. I though about having someone build it, but after getting a few quotes I didn’t think I was going to afford it. After watching this video, I’m ready to start the process, thanks for the inspiration.
Intently watched this once, so far. Looking at building a similar sized structure with similar methods and materials. Thanks for all the tips/tricks/advice. Great job!!! Something truly to be proud of.
We are about to start building a 32' x 48' post frame woodshop on our land so this is a very interesting video indeed! We are on a ridgetop so we can hit rock anywhere from a foot to three feet! We are not sawing our own lumber but wish we could. We built our home and other buildings over the years - and by we I mean mostly me 😉. I'll go back and watch some of the other videos as I prepare to build! Thanks for the videos! 😊
It's about a half year later, and the post frame shop is complete! We went bigger by building a massive retaining wall so we could cut into the hillside. The final building is 36' x 48'. We did hit bedrock in areas, and had to anchor some of the piers to it, but otherwise the build went well!
I am blown away - excellent work, it must have been very rewarding for you. Great that family and friends chipped in when needed, the way it used to be and I am sure they are proud of there contribution and the things you taught them along the way. As soon as you said the word 'garage', I knew you were from the Ottawa area! It's a small accent that I recognized from growing up there, hadn't heard it in a while. Hats off to your confidence while admitting some areas were new to you. Your video skills match the quality of construction - wow. Special kudos to your faithful dog who was there through it all - they truly are selfless companions. Congratulations on an awesome project completion.
Hats off to you, I’ve done a pole barn myself, very satisfying. Always remember to pace yourself, if you get tired/agitated, walk way or do something else, it works. Ps, I was so cheap I hand mixed my concrete in a wheel barrow, challenging.
Your technique on the concrete was excellent. Kudo's for not becoming discouraged as it is a difficult undertaking. It looked great, and you know now to wait a little longer before brooming. ha ha...Excellent work sir.
You are the Boss at pole barns I am going to build an exact duplicate of this on my property in Alabama thanks so much for posting I enjoyed watching this as much as you enjoyed making this -PawPaw
I would patch around those piers with some concrete, if you have cold weather you don't want water getting in there, could crack your floor. You Daughter was a Very Hard Worker. Not easy working by yourself. Hey this is a Family Affair, you now got everyone working of this. All of you did a Great job. You know the sell a saw blade to cut metal that goes into your hand held circular saw or use a grinder with metal cutting disks. I like how you say "Garage Door".......lol. What part of the country are you from.
Stanley, thanks for the comments and kind words. I need to get some of those blades. I'm near Merrickville, Ontario. Where are you? Peter at the Reboot.
Hey, you did a great job! Don't worry about the arm-chair quarterbacks..... you did a fine job! We have built many barns on our farm and we thought your job looked very nice. Keep up the good work, enjoy your kids and make sure to enjoy the time with your dad!!!!!!
Mad phat sic barn/shed dude. You're a lucky man since building a big shed is so useful and million sof us never manage to be that guy. But you've done it and its a little indoor world for any weather you can handle doing your thing inside of there
Beautiful Pole Barn. I can see how much work goes into the planning process and the actual hard work getting it done. I can see why you are so proud of your project. I love the color.it really stands out! It’s well worth all your effort. Thank you for sharing this project with us.👍✅
Props for doing that roof work by yourself, well worth the expense paying someone to do that job, can't believe it too them three days! I watched a crew shingle my whole 28x48 garage with 10 Pitch roof in less than a day.
An excellent project - Very good job. I did something simular 30' x 40' x 10' with a 12' x 8' porch at the entry door. I used instead of building wrap a 1/4" bubble insulation sheet with bright aluminum on one side and white on the other on all the walls and roof. It is suprizing how cooler it is in the summer and warmer with no water condensation in the winter.
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and experience. I am building a large coverall in Portland Ontario and was not sure how to tackle the bedrock issue. This was outstanding info. Thanks again. Cheers John
Nice job on this project. I'm getting ready to build a 17 X 40 over a park model RV. I will make one observation and perhaps someone already commented on it. Spruce is a super soft wood, along with that I can tell that some of the boards that you milled were actually at the beginning of decay which is what the silver/grey color is. Watching the large screws sink in too far makes me nervous for you as to the sheer strength of that building. Most of the sheer comes from the metal siding and the roof, however the softness of spruce just makes me wonder how tight everything is and will be after a few years of wind. All of that being said, you did a fantastic job on everything! And you are right about the work it takes to do concrete. Thanks for sharing this with us, while you were learning, we were learning. Thumbs up!
That was very interesting Peter. I love the looks of a metal building. They have some awesome looking ranch style home/office packages. They are very nicely laid out.
NEW SUBCRIBER 3/16/21. I don't know how I got here. Great video. My gg grandparents sold their farm and equipment by auction in that area in the 1860s and moved to near Flint, Michigan. Looking at that rock, I can see the reason. Eaglegards...

Thanks for sharing! I noticed you nailed the wall girts on instead of screws. I'm guessing that's done for wood movement so would you recommend nails over screws for that?
TIP Having built a pole barn yrs ago by myself, to raised material, I used clamps fastened to a post say at as high as I could reach, one end on resting on the clamp, then climbed a ladder with the other end, 2nd clamp etc. the clamp serves as a ledge to support the otherwise loose lumber.
Awesome job! You should be proud of that shop! I conquered (and still finishing up) a similar build for my first time (on my channel) and most people will never understand the work that goes into DIY'ing a project like this. The satisfaction of saying "I did that". . . .you just can't buy that.
Awsome project and video. We are not far from your place we are in Toledo Ont. and planing to build pole darn on bead rock. How did you drill holes for your foundation?
I really enjoyed your video because I think we are about at the same skill level. I plan to build a little smaller one by myself and I think I am going to rent a scissors lift and keep the trusses 8' o.c. and then I can get the lift between the trusses to install the perlins.
Thanks David. I think your plan with the scissors lift is the way to do it. If I were to do it again, I would do it the way you are planning to do it. Good luck and thanks for watching. Peter at the Reboot.
Oh man, I’m so envious on so many levels, but mostly how well you captured all of this. Such inspirational work! I also appreciate that you shared it with all of us. Congrats Peter!!!

The mind is weak but, the body strong.
What a project ! Nice job.
Thanks!
Impressive. What a huge undertaking. Came out fantastic, and your videos have captured it all really well.
Thank you very much!
Great job Daddy.Wood frame, metal roof, metal siding, concrete slab! "Windows in a pole barn, amazing!"

Congratulations you did a fantastic job. I enjoyed the Video, I didn’t notice the length of it.
Glad you enjoyed it! The building is 48' long.
That was very interesting Peter. I love the looks of a metal building. They have some awesome looking ranch style home/office packages. They are very nicely laid out.
Glad you enjoyed it! Yes, there are some great packages out there. Peter at the Reboot.
Very nice build! I really like how you explained and show in detail the process and explained some of the challenges you went through.
Glad you liked it!!
NEW SUBCRIBER 3/16/21. I don't know how I got here. Great video. My gg grandparents sold their farm and equipment by auction in that area in the 1860s and moved to near Flint, Michigan. Looking at that rock, I can see the reason. Eaglegards...
Thanks for the sub! And welcome to the channel! Peter at the Reboot
Awesome, after watching, I want to try building one myself!!!!!!
Thanks Todd. Not hard to do ... just takes some time if you plan to do most the work by yourself.
Great video..Greetings from Singapore 🇸🇬
How are things in Singapore? Glad you liked it and thanks for watching! Peter at the Reboot.
That’s a backhoe. A bit of water on your crushed rock would help for better compaction. I love the pole barn colors and size. Great vid
Thanks for the info and the kind words. Peter at the Reboot.
I will be back to watch more. You have motivated me to get my be hind to work. :)
Thanks Breezeaire! Glad you enjoyed the video and good luck with your projects! Peter at the Reboot
Watched from Yosemite Kentucky. Great video.
Awesome! Thank you!
You're one tough guy mentally and physically, thanks for sharing, keep them coming when u can.
Thanks Mitala.
Yeah agreed. It’s too easy to quit and finance a build through a contractor. Nice looking building too.
I can relate to your video I built my own home & pool etc. Allot of hard work, took a year to do. Moved in and another to finish up the rest of the interior .Concrete work was the hardest thing to do. I’m always doing project very satisfying. Enjoyed your video, you did a fantastic job. Congratulations on a project well done. Few people have done what you have done
Great story River. Your home sounds like a fantastic project. Peter at the Reboot.
You ARE tough!!! Carry On ;)
Thanks for watching and the kind words!
Great editing, a reboot of the Reboot. Nice!
Thanks Don!
You should be very proud of "IT", you did a great job and was fun to watch. Giving me bad ideas though!
Thanks Scott and good luck if you decide to build one!
By your self , show . I have. Done several of these , personal I never would have .done this alone . So I say you done great job , a 10 to you well done !
Thanks 👍
Thank you for the valuable video.
You are welcome! Glad it was helpful.
well done....I'm in
Thanks!
if there comes a storm the whole thing can tipp over the long way its not enof sideways suport there. you did a good job :)
There have been several storms and it is still standing. The supports and braces are there. I may have not shown this in the summary video. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for sharing! I noticed you nailed the wall girts on instead of screws. I'm guessing that's done for wood movement so would you recommend nails over screws for that?
I think I used nails and added a large construction to each joint. You probably didn't see it do to my poor video skills.
Good TIP. Thanks Michael.
Awesome job! You should be proud of that shop! I conquered (and still finishing up) a similar build for my first time (on my channel) and most people will never understand the work that goes into DIY'ing a project like this. The satisfaction of saying "I did that". . . .you just can't buy that.
Thanks! I'll check out your build.
Nice job!
Thank you! Cheers!
Impressive work. Very good video too
Thank you very much!
Thank you I have learnt alot and mine is on the way great thanks to Michael your freind.
Thanks David and good luck with your project. Peter at the Reboot.
Awsome project and video. We are not far from your place we are in Toledo Ont. and planing to build pole darn on bead rock. How did you drill holes for your foundation?
That's some serious work!
A lot of work but a lot of fun!
Damn. Very impressed
Thanks Gregory.
Oh man, I’m so envious on so many levels, but mostly how well you captured all of this. Such inspirational work! I also appreciate that you shared it with all of us. Congrats Peter!!!
Thanks Living Tech!
Enjoyed the video, nice job......
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks. Peter at the Reboot.
You may want to look at aircrete for insulation much cheaper and fire bug resistance. Good luck great job and You should be proud. Excellent.
I will check it out. Thanks for the idea and the kind words!
Wonderful,so good to watch.but I wish to know how did you hold the poles on the concrete?
I used a nail gun to attach a piece of 2x4 to the concrete. I was then able to attach/nail a brace to the 2x4.
you've done a great job!
Thank you! Peter at the Reboot
Great job ~
And I envy your ability
Thanks Foto!
Very attractive building
Thanks!
Good video, I thought you guys did a great job on that concrete. Especially as a family project.
Thanks 50 Acres! We learned quickly that my son enjoys these types of projects more than my daughter. Love what you do on your channel!

Thanks.
Excellent video. Well done.
Thank you very much! Glad you enjoyed it.
It was very good build. Have u more on the page
Very nice work my friend..... dont know if anyone else commented but those malco sheers work better in a drill ,,, and least mine did
Thanks for the tip. I will give this a try next time.
Very good jobs👍👍👍
Thank you very much
I'm in the trades, and I found that your job on the tyvek was outstanding, I would have done it differently than you, but you did one heck of a great job since a slight breeze that stuff doesn't cooperate..
Many thanks.
