vogue from the MDNA tour is absolutely spectacular. You also neeed to listen to some singles from britney’s circus album. Love your reactions so much btw!
Madonna, on top of the fact that she was in crazy good shape here and could dance her ass off and sing without being breathless, was amazing at staging a show with the best talent around her. I also love that she was always super aware of being inclusive. Instead of just hiring primarily white dancers and artists, she always made sure her shows had amazing diversity and representation. Her taking an Asian and a black male dancer and turning them into sex objects was amazing for its time, not only in terms of representing interracial relationships which was still fairly taboo, but also in saying that men (and women) of all races can be beautiful. Thirty years ago... even today...that's still a provocative viewpoint, oddly.
"I was among ninety thousand people in the audience when Madonna performed in Brazil for the first time in 1993. I watched her at the Morumbi stadium in São Paulo. Madonna, Whitney Houston, and Mariah Carey dominated the music industry in the 90s, and rightfully earned the titles of the queens of the decade."
Madonna has had so many spectacular tours, and IMHO, The Girlie Show is one of her very best. Great vocals, great choreography, and one of the best story through lines of any of any tour (especially Express Yourself, Deeper & Deeper, Why’s It So Hard, and In This Life). There were very few USA dates due to the backlash of Erotica/Sex Book/Body of Evidence movie. Such a shame. I would have loved to have seen it in person.
Congrats on all your positive life changes. You go girl! If you watch the performance of Erotica from this tour, you’ll understand the outfit and attitude going into this performance.
I have seen ALL of her concerts starting with "Who's that girl" tour until "Madam x". She never does a bad tour! Surprising she is 5 feet 5 inches but SHE commands the stage and your attention ! One of the best live performers EVER!
This exact performance was filmed in my hometown Sydney and I was in the audience for it. Prior to the concert starting, someone came on the P.A to announce the show was going to be filmed for the tour DVD and for the audience to please forgive the cameras for occasionally getting in the way. This news made everyone even more excited! I was 19 when this happened it was only my second ever concert. I'm now 48 so watching this was quite the flashback for me. Loved your reaction....like you said, yes I can imagine being there cos I was!
1993 and the British press were calling her 'grandma' even back then...nearly 30 years ago. Amazing tour and pushing boundaries which of course completely sold out following on from the way ahead of its time Erotica Album, the button pushing Sex Book and the movie Body of Evidence. Twas an amazing time to have been a Madonna fan
You should check out the Fever music video. Madonna rocks red hair and in some scenes she's painted silver and a chain mesh dress. Love your reactions. ❤
I heard someone claiming that Madonna's hair broke because she went from platin blonde to copper to platin blonde again. But the pixie was a really nice change.
I was 20 when this came out, so I was right there in the middle of the Madonna superstardom and the controversies too. All of it. It’s why she’s such a legend now. You just endure her career and body of work and you see it.
Madonna's live shows were the pop event of the year, Im from Brazil and if she didn't schedule a show in the country we saved money through a whole year, booked hotels etc in whatever closest country she was performing just to be there, nobody did or do a show as she does, it is sad she is human and properly no longer can deliver those kinds of shows, she not only single-handed changed the music industry to female performers but she also single-handed changed how live shows are produce, there is no female or male artist today that not copied her formula , that now became the standard in this industry
Btw Ayanna, thank you for giving Madonna the props she deserves in regards to her art, creativity, boundary-pushing brilliance because people just don’t give what Madonna gives. Just as you said even artists today don’t compare to her in this regard 💕 💎 👑 Also welcome back we missed you 😊
This was actually her one and only tour that she did not do in the United States because of reasons of her previous tour which I guess got a lot of flack for its controversy. I was 17 when that came out and and I actually watched it when it premiered with all my friends we had a party just for it. Thanks for appreciating Madonna, I love her but use be obsessed. Oh and by rhe way she is a dancer full dance scholarship to Michigan state
"The Girlie Show" looks at desires through the lens of a Peep-Show/Carneval! The dancer, not clown, at the beginning is Carrie Inaba, the judge on "Dancing With The Star!" Her story from a J-Pop princess, to a Flygirl on "In Living Color" with J Low, to shaving her head to dance with Madonna, to Dancing With The Stars!
I can’t only imagine. I was there. I was 17 and I got my ticket in the most Charlie and The Chocolate Factory style. I was the poor guy on my high school and all my upper middle class friends were going, but a brewery was sponsoring the concert, and it was the brand my step father used to drink. So the ticket came on a six pack. PERIOD. And I could only go to watch it in São Paulo thanks to a teacher who had tickets and drove me and another student who was a crazy Madonna fan like me. So, the Girlie Show was the first time Madonna went to Brazil and it was A NATIONAL EVENT. People doing strip tease and spitting fire in front of her hotel, 90k people in São Paulo and 120k in Rio watching her. And while in America the Erotica album was outrageous, in Brazil was the favorite secret sin of everyone, in a country where Carnival and nudity and sex walk together. I remember entering the stadium and 20 minutes later she went on stage to rehearse. I died! There was a grandma with her granddaughters completely hallucinated by my side. The show is a mix of cabaret, circus and Hollywood divas. She was wearing a mask and holding a whip because she opens the concert with Erotica. There is a gigantic pole where Carrie Ann Inaba (from Dancing with the Stars) comes down bare chest. It is amazing. You have to watch it all. And listening to the entire Erotica album (which this tour promoted). So Fever is a continuation of this sex provocative performance in which she is swallowed by the flames of hell (back then she was called a witch, a whore, the devil etc). This album is a landmark in pop music. And Madonna never went so far and she set the standards for all those who came after. I loved your reaction as usual.
Omg that is the best story I have ever read!! I wish I was around then to have witnessed all of this hahaha! I was already shook by this one song, so I can't imagine a 2 hour long concert of this, I definitely will have to check out the rest of the show! I probably would have died and resurrected if I was actually there lol! Thank you so much for watching and always supporting my channel!! I appreciate you so much! 🤍✨
Yes she got so much hate during the Erotica Era that this tour only had 2 or 3 USA cities the rest of the tour was in Australia Japan Europe and Latin America.
I was there in Adelaide the week before this video was filmed in sydney, I was two rows back from the Catwalk! still one of the greatest nights of my life! If you are expolring this show, check out 'In This Life' 'holiday' and 'Justify my Love'
Great reaction. I saw this tour ( I was about 15) on tv . It did cause a raucous. Maybe the term you were seeking was “ ahead of her time” or “ prolific “. She was 34 here and people were calling her old back then, that’s crazy to me. I love her. Side note, you should check out George Micheal, he is incredibly underrated, his voice is like silk and his song writing was so soulful. He’s gone now unfortunately. Madonna is still with us, let us appreciate her while she is with us 🙏🏻
She was a trailblazer. Madonna had an axe to grind with the industry for putting different limitations on female artists and male artists. Male artists were allowed to sexualize women in their videos and nobody cared, but when she did it herself and took control of her own sexuality, it was always controversial and the media would endlessly drag her. What I fkn loved about her is instead of bowing to the criticism and threats of ending her career, she just did it harder. She had a point to make and was not going to be shut up about it.
Prior to the Girlie Show - she released the book Sex and that got a lot of attention - especially negative attention (a lot of people were disgusted with the book) but enough people liked the book as well - as is - cool - you go girl! I’m convinced that the book Sex - and then the album Erotica - followed up by the world tour - the Girlie Show resulted in her global appeal rising significantly - because - sex sells!
That´s why she ia a millionaire de luxe. LGBT community and Black americans relate to her at a right point. I do remember sitting on a trans-atlantic plane, going via NY to Chicago.
