Hey Angela, the best way to attach Jasmine to a house is by installing hooks into the timber studs behind the weather board and run wires between them for the Jasmine to climb and twist around. Jasmine is a great choice for weather board too 😊
Thanks for partnering with next level gardening. I have a trumpet vine that was planted 5 years ago on a back chainlink fence. No blooms yet. Any thoughts. It is now 10 ft fan along the fence. The fence runs along the south side of an old rail trail.
Hey there, Trumpet vine can take a few years to flower but it should be now that its 5 years old. If they get too much shade or too much nitrogen that will stop them from flowering also. You can feed with potash to try and improve the flowering and or cut back any shading branches to let a little more light in. I hope that helps :)
Hello Ben! I loved this video. Well done. May I please ask, what plant do you recommend to grow up a wooden pergola? We are wanting to make a wall of some vine to give one side of the pergola some privacy from the neighbours. The middle of the pergola has a fire pit which is why we also want the vine growing on one side and we will keep it cut back from growing over the top.
Hey there, I would lean toward Star Jasmine. It’s quick growing, creates a great evergreen screen, has a beautiful scent and has loads of flowers. An absolute winner. I hope that helps 😊
Hey there, possums are a tricky one to stop. If the Chilli spray has not worked then you may want to try an ultrasonic deterrent. Unfortunately the best way of all is to catch them in a safe possum cage with the lure of fresh fruit and then re-homing them. There are also professional services that can do this for you. I hope this helps :)
Hi Ben, I have a 2-storey west-facing verandah. I’d like to grow a climber for shade on the lower storey only. I was thinking Virginia creeper. Is this a good choice? If not, what would you recommend?
Hi ! great video.. id love a climber that can grow on the southside alley of our house and wont get alot of sun in winter and a little in summer. any suggestions ! thank you
Hi Ben, I planted a Virginia creeper last autumn/winter on a south west facing Colourbond sheet, which have weatherboard above them (the back of our decked area). The plant is growing well, but it isn't connecting to the wall/sheet. I planted a Virginia creeper as I thought it wouldn't need a trellis. Does it? Many thanks. :)
Virginia creeper definitely should be attaching itself. Its obviously still very young so if you gave it some help by gently pinning the new growth to the wall with some soft tree tie so it stays till that would encourage it to stick more. I hope that helps :)
I'm interested to know what you would recommend for a north facing verandah, looking to grow something that would climb up the verandah posts. The garden bed in front of the verandah has roses and lavender.
Hey there, I would go with something like Wisteria, Bougainvillea or a beautiful Climbing Rose. They would all compliment the under plantings really well :)
Hey Anna, thanks for watching. Are you wanting a climber that attaches to your wall directly? What surface is the building? Tin, cladding, brick or other?
@@benhayman6790 Hello there….I will be using wire and my surface is vinyl siding. The plant will be coming from a large pot, up the well then over the garage door. Thank you! 🙏🏽
@@annadavis6361 in that case I would choose between a Wisteria, Star Jasmine or even a climbing Rose. All will look fantastic over a garage door and have loads of flowers to soften the building 😊 I hope that helps
I live in a two story weatherboard house and I’m looking to grow something lush and green up the side. I was thinking creeping fig? But something floral that won’t damage the house would be nice. I just don’t want something desiduous
Hey there, I would suggest Star Jasmine. It’s evergreen, has beautiful scented flowers and is really lush. You will have to install a couple of wires for it to climb on though but it’s definitely worth that little bit of effort. 😊
Thanks Ben for the lovely video, love your gardening/plants videos. Do you have any recommendations for climber plant for colourbond fence in full sun to part shade pls
Hey Neha, that’s a great question as I have struggled with this exact problem in the past. I have found Boston Ivy is great in handling the hot tin and once it gets a little more established it will take off. At the beginning it can be a little hard for it to grip on so try and plant early in spring so it gets some growth before the heat of summer. Good luck 👌🏼
great video - very helpful
Love hoselink~

I've wanted to sort of "hide" one side of my fence, and am learning about climbers. Great info! Thank you!
Very well done video. Sure like climbers
Great information thanks!!
How do you attach and maintain a star jasmine on a house. Or what would be best for weather board house.

Thanks Ben, that's great. Any tips on the best way to stop possums eating star jasmine growth?! I've tried chilli oil and water pistols!

Virginia creeper would work great as would Honeysuckle, Star Jasmine or Ivy. Take your pick as they will all thrive :) Goodluck

Hey there, I would go with Star Jasmine, Ivy or Honey suckle. All are beautiful in their own right and will do well. I hope that helps :)

pls add a video on how to 'control' a climbing vine. how to rid climbing plants that are evasive and have dangerous thorns. thanks
Thanks for watching and sending us through ideas for new videos. We will put it on the list.

What sort of climber can i grow on a Colorbond 2 meter fence Thank you
Hey there, what way does the fence face? Did you want something that doesn't require wires? or it doesn't matter?

Is a Virginia creeper okay on a timber fence in full sun.
It absolutely is. That's a near-perfect situation for it, it should take off in no time :)
I have a water tank in my back yard that I want to hide with a climber. What variety would you suggest
I have always liked Boston Ivy growing on water tanks. I think they look beautiful together :)
I have climbing clematis
Wisteria goes nuts and is so hard to get rid of
But its so beautiful and worth the effort in my opinion :)
