Absolutely, and very valuable because it "goes up", doesn't take up much ground space and is wonderful for adding interest to tree trunks or buildings.

That's true, but fortunately this one goes up vertically, so it doesn't take up much ground space....

    Beautiful!
I just ordered one of the false hydrangea vine plants. I'll be planting it in front of a wood fence. My question is, do I need a trellis or will it cling without one?
    Thank you!

That's great, you are in for a treat!
You will probably notice that it will be a little slow to get going at first, so for the first few years, it will take a little patience while you train the new shoots onto the fence. A small temporary trellis, a little bit of chicken wire, or just tying or twinning the shoots in between boards will be what you need to do. After that, once it gets its roots established and gets up a "head of steam" it will put out strong, vigorous shoots that fix themselves to anything solid, and then you will notice the first of the flowering shoots, and then this just accelerates in their arrival as the plant matures.
If you've ordered it at one of our partnering garden centers: grownbyoverdevest.com/retail-locator/ you will notice that when it comes in, it is likely to have already reached the flowering stage, so you'll be off to a good start, but even then, it will still need a little patience! 😉
Even, though our plants are well formed and most of them ready to provide an almost instant effect as soon as they are planted, this one is usually a bit shy at getting going, so don't be too concerned if it takes 2-3 years to begin to show all its glory. That's the "nature of the beast"!
But, give it time and decent conditions, and it will reward your patience with years and years of enjoyable pleasure.

I have an arch. Would this be too exgressive and heavy to go on a small metal arch? Will it overtake to much base room, or start to grow on the ground and overtake other plants?

It may be okay on a strongly constructed arch, but most of the time they do best on a solid structure like a wall, fence or even tree trunks! Somewhere for them to attach their ariel roots.
Twining plants like Clematis: ua-cam.com/video/Z69fP7r0-7o/v-deo.html are well suited to arches, and in our experience the top performers for this region, turn out really beautifully.
So when you get a chance, you might like to check out some of the other Clematis videos here on this channel, and then make a trip over to some of our partnering garden centers: grownbyoverdevest.com/retail-locator/ to see some of our big, beautiful plants and perhaps choose the ones that appeal to you most.
