4:03 I hope he is an ally and not an enemy!! It would be cool and sense it runs on the same energy as the hand maybe we defeat and later control it when we are more powerful and this is a large gimmick of the game... that would be cool it would kinda be like horizon zero dawn. Oh and he has a clock on his chest maybe he is how we travel in time if we do!!!
This was my thought, similar to how ancient shiekah and modern shiekah architecture differ, we might be looking at a (more?) modern zonai design. It’s hard to ignore the shiekah eyes on the stone Serpent boss however, which also has the pinecone/egg/lamp structures as appear on the ruins elsewhere, so maybe it’s some 3rd sect of the shiekah that took to the skies after the king reigned in their power? You’d then have the shiekah following hylia, the yiga following Ganon, and this sect following the ancient hero
@@Joe-nb8rd it could be that indeed. I'd love to see some yiga technology as well, because their modern (BotW) civilization don't seem to have made much progress in that direction.
@@Joe-nb8rd also, Zonai seem particularly interested in dragons, especially Farosh. As the courage deity and triforce piece have connections to the hero this could well likely be why the Zonai wanted to follow the ancient hero.
@Jan1270 I get the same vibe, but possibly something happened through history to change those designs. Like a reason to worship dragons/snakes, would be cool to get some sort of dungeon or boss related to the zonai ideology over time.
My current theory is that Ganon takes off Link's right arm, losing the Master Sword in the process. Ganon then escapes and causes the land to shift. Meanwhile, the glowing hand grafts itself onto Link so he can continue his fight.
@@李子-y4g Yeah he had to drop the sword due to the malice. The green stuff is likely Zonai which would have green energy (Representing courage oddly enough) Perhaps with this power he could end the curse once and for all, or at least the calamity
Ganondorf has been planning for 10100 years, he knows what to do. He dropped Zelda down a pit to try and kill her, then immidiatly went for Link’s sword arm with Malice. I Imagen Ganondorf will of taken the master sword with him (no way his leaving that dangerous item just lying about) and left Link alive so they can witness his victory
@@riskyworks There’s no reason why Ganondorf can’t touch the sword, his able to pull the Sword of the Six sages out of his chest and use it In battle. More so, the blade dosnt exactly repel malice, we’ve never seen it do that. Instead it dose increased damage against Malice infected things by going into its awakened state. If it could repel malice, then it wouldn’t of been able to be consumed by the stuff along with Link’s arm. There are also a good thousand other ways Ganondorf could confiscate the master sword after Link drops it. For example he He could take it by the hilt or He could wrap some cloth about it. Ganondorf has only ever been damageable by the master sword while in his Gerudo form after his been hit by light arrows. In his Ganon/beast form he is more vaulnrable to the sword. Ganondorf knows the biggest threats to his rule are Zelda, the master sword, Incarnations of link and vengeful 12 year olds who have had their younger siblings taken. So his first moves apon getting free will have to be to remove Zelda from the equation, then capture the master sword and neutralise the Link incarnation… while also not having any little children kidnapped. And this is what we see him do in the teaser. He drops Zelda down a pit, possibly attempts to throw Link down to, then majorly damages Link’s sword arm with Malice and removes the Master Sword (since we don’t see it at all after). After that, he goes for a display of Dominance by lifting Hyrule castle into the sky for all to see and fear.
The more I look at the architecture in the sky, the more I think this: In past Zelda games, who have we seen living on islands floating in the sky? Who decorates those islands with egg-shaped architectural elements (like the lamps and the details on the big robot in the trailer)? Who built (supposedly...) robotic creatures powered by light? Answer to all of these: the Oocca. I don't know what that means for BotW2's Skyrule, but I can't help but wonder if they're involved (or at least alluded to).
Hey Monster Maze, I have a request. Maybe you could try and add the second trailer to your chronological version of the first trailer? I realize if you cant do this, but I think it would very cool and add onto the hype of the both trailers
@@scottcrimmins1754 Also, now with the time reversal component confirmed, maybe some parts of the first trailer shows these effects, too. Especially when Link grabs Zeldas, her hand seems to move upward depite her "falling". Maybe, that's the first application of the new power or overall motivation: reversing her fall.
the text on the ground, to me, looks inspired by ANCIENT chinese writing called Oracle Bone Script, specifically an evolved version called xiǎozhuàn. I'll call this new Zelda language Stone Script from now on. Due to this inspiration, Stone Script imo links (heh) these structures to the heavily Japanese themed Sheikah. It could also just be ancient Hylian but Skyloft uses the same script we see in BOTW. Maybe something from the older games like Twilight Princess perhaps? Eh it could be either Hylian or Sheikah since it could be older than Skyloft script and it's only unrecognizable to Hylian due to its age.... Bone Script is Chinese Hanzi (and due to their influence on Japan, Kanji) are evolved from these ancient ancient symbols, think like heiropglyihcs turning into modern day letters. But this also implies these structures are PRIOR to the 10,000 year old Calamity Event shown in the Tapestry, or at least it's older than the tapestry. Cus the tapestry uses modern Sheikah text. Now the question is does the Stone Script look similar to Modern Sheikah/Hylian when compared closely?
the structures aren't necessarily older than the tapestry, the tapestry depicts the events from the calamity BUT it could have been made hundreds or even thousands of years afterwards, hence the modern sheikah text! so you could definitely be onto something with this stone script being from the era of the original calamity.
@@eveclarke676 i think it could be prior to the 10,000 year old calamity event because there is no mention of Ganondorf the man in the tapestry, only the beast Ganon. i suspect we will learn what happened even longer than 10,000 years ago when Ganondorf was sealed underground. even though i expect the game to be relentlessly delayed, i’m hype! :)
@@eveclarke676 The structures could be older if we base the idea that these text, which feature on the structures, is based on real life ancient text. So it's more a visual storytelling thing if you know the context, I'm guessing. That's where my conclusion comes from really. If that makes sense. Its the Devs telling us these structures are older than the Tapestry at least Without deliberately having a character tell us, (and maybe older than or even *is* Skyloft depending on what happens in game. I only doubt Skyloft cus BOTW and Skward shared the same font text and we see Skyloft architecture in BOTW and it's nothing like what we're seeing here, so its either much much older or newer but still somehing *ancient* cus of the SPECIFIC design choice for the new font.) and Zelda does little nods and easter eggs like that often for storytelling reasons ie using Jomon jars for the guarduans and shrines designs to make them feel old and ancient. Ah it's 3am and Im rambling but its such a specific font with real life parralels ON the structures, implying Stone Script was written when the structures were built, I doubt these structures are supposed to be something Modern.
Haha, I just posted a similar comment and now I found yours. I argue that the structures in the sky might be early Shiekah or something from their predecessors, since the Shiekah in BotW are of course heavily inspired by the Japanese, and the Japanese culture was originally heavily influenced by the Chinese culture.
So remember those tall zonai towers that had the texture changed late into development with seemingly no explanation? Those sure look similar to the new sky islands. Maybe that's why it was changed. To tie it to the sequel somehow.
I love the detailed look into these facets, I feel like this is the best way to look at things without getting carried away with assumptions. As for something I noticed that not many are pointing out: I think the close-up of Link's strange hand is clearly being played in reverse, adding to those time-reversal references. In the scene. If you look closely in the upper left corner, right where Link's skin is visible, you see that there are different colors: his skin tone, reddish patches, and then the dark green color. In the shot, the power from the arm is receding, dimming toward his fingertips. That alone is contrary to the flow of time considering the context but if you look at the seam at his upper arm, the reddish patches (which we can assume come from the malice attack in the trailer) actually expand and grow along his skin while the greenish patches (which have something to do with the strange power) dim and recede with the flow of the energy. If you play it in reverse the green energy is clearly creeping up his arm and expelling the damage from the blight. I know it seems obvious, but I think it's worth noting that there may be a lot of clip reversal hidden in the coming trailers whether sensical or not. That, and the arm is most definitely healing that malice damage. Considering the shape of Link's fingers/nails, you might argue that the malice was transforming Link (bokoblin??) before the spirit arm offered a hand. That or it's a by-product of the power being granted to him. Anyway, you're my favorite Zeldatuber, best of luck with your move, I super appreciate your attention to detail and clarity of message.
I have a couple of thoughts about the new teaser, as well as some predictions, I’m interested to hear what people here think: 1) The first frames are a dream/premonition - A couple of months ago, a Zelda theorists came up with the idea that Zelda and Link sought out Ganondorf after having a dream, very similar to what happened in ocarina of time. To me personally, the first few frames of the trailer looked very much like a dream and seems to contradict some scenes from the first trailer. In the first trailer, the spirit arm made contact with Link’s arm, while in the new one it was malice. The atmosphere of the first few shots of the new trailer seems a bit different as well. When Link reached for Zelda when she was falling in the first trailer she was holding a torch, but when she was falling in the new trailer there was no torch to be found. With Zelda and Link’s history of having premonitions, the inconsistencies between the two trailers, and the need for there to be a motive for the pair to seek out Ganondorf, it seems to me that the first few scenes are very likely to be a vision. 2) Time travel and the tapestry - One of my personal favourite theories is that the yellow hand of the hero in the tapestry is the glowing hand that has sealed Ganondorf for over ten thousand years. The problem is that the timeline prevents this from being true. Calamity Ganon is the malice of the sealed Ganondorf taking a conscious form through which Ganondorf can inflict his hatred upon Hyrule, therefore the hero in the tapestry could not have the glowing hand while fighting the Calamity if it was sealing Ganondorf. With the return to the skies, the pattern from the gate of time in skyward sword appearing above the throne of Hyrule castle, the giant goddess statue, the springs, and the forgotten/sealed temple, there are already lots of references to Skyward Sword, and it would be very poetic if the last chronological game of the series had the same mechanic as the first. Now to get to the point, I believe that the hero of the wild is the same hero from ten thousand years ago, and in Breath of the Wild 2 we will go back in time ten thousand years. Some evidence to back this up is the appearance of Link in some scenes of this trailer. His clothing appears tattered, and his hair is unkept, this doesn’t necessarily have to mean time travel is involved it could just be the progression of the story, but his appearance is very similar to the hero of ten thousand years ago. Both of them have long hair, glowing hands, and green clothing. Link’s new wardrobe includes a green cloth over his left shoulder, which matches the old hero’s wardrobe as well. Not only that, but in the description of the tunic of the wild it states that “strangely enough, it’s just your size”, the cap and trousers have similar descriptions. What if the reason why this set of clothing fits Link so well is because it was Link’s. I don’t know what reason would cause Link to need to go back in time, but it doesn’t mean that it’s not a possibility. The appearance of Link could just as easily be a cosmetic option. Maybe it’s a stretch, but you have to admit it’d be cool. 3) The Zonai in the sky and more - This is probably the least reasonable theory. To start off, I think the ruins and ancient robot in the sky are Zonai creation, albeit they look different from the original Zonai ruins. It states in Masterworks that “the Zonai themselves are spoken of in hushed whispers as strong magic welders who vanished suddenly thousands of years ago.” The ancient robot in the trailer is animated by green magic and the green magic arm allows Link to use many magical abilities. So, if we assume that the green arm is Zonai magic and that the robot is of Zonai origin as well, then what about the ruins? Well, they could be what Zonai architecture evolved into after their disappearance into the skies. After more than ten millennia in isolation, it would make sense that Zonai architecture evolved. The egg shaped stones also somewhat resemble some trees from the Faron region, and the hooked accents on one of the buildings resembles similar hooked accents on other Zonai architecture from around Hyrule, although not exactly the same. The robot seen in the trailer could have also been a development in Zonai magic, which is why nothing similar can be found in Hyrule. But why would the Zonai retreat to the skies? Maybe the Zonai were such strong magic users that the Hyrulian royal family became scared, maybe after working together to seal Ganondorf like the Sheikah, and chased them off. The Zonai split into two groups, those who retreated to the skies to be closer to the sky spirits which they worshipped, and those who relocated to the coast which eventually became Lurelin village. Were the Zonai proto-Shiekah? The magic arm seems to have similar abilities to the Sheikah slate and more. Both of them are forms of ancient technology, as you can see the jewellery almost charge up with power. They also both have a stasis like ability, and the water droplet in the trailer is very similar to when you get a new rune or unlock a portion of the map in the original game. I think that the green magic, whether you want to consider it to be Zonai or not, is a more chaotic and natural form of Sheikah magic, while the blue Sheikah magic is more refined. Maybe the Zonai taught the Shiekah about their magic before they disappeared, or maybe they developed it together. The Sheikah could also be a break away faction of the Zonai, like the Yiga is to the Shiekah. The pattern on what I assume is a shield made from the new civilization in the sky is very resemblant of a Sheikah eye. This could mean that either this eye was of Zonai origin and the Sheikah is an adaptation and evolution of it, or the new/old civilization in the sky is another break away faction of the Sheikah who developed new and more powerful forms of magic. These are my three immediate thoughts after seeing the trailer, if there’s any holes in them or contradictory evidence I’d like to here about them. Thanks for reading for anyone who made it through all three.
My prediction is BOTW2 will start with us waking up in Links house. Putting on Links updated champions tunic (thus introducing new people to the inventory system), taking the Master sword and a shield from the frames and making Zelda breakfast (thus introducing the cooking system) they then go and head off somewhere on their horses (thus introducing horse riding and the stables are just outside the house) and also them riding through the ruins outside Hateno (good place to show off the combat system) and all of this would be a good tutorial. The first theory actually would match up perfectly with this prediction.
I don't believe theory 2. The shots from the sky are from the present, as we can see things from down below, there is only one link we see, the botw one, just wearing different clothes, as throughout the trailer he had the same hand and paraglider. So far, from what we see, you can just jump down into hyrule and fly up, no time travel. Also in a free open world game, time travel can be quite restricting, so i don't think there will be any time travel
As the Shiekah have existed since the beginning; it wouldn't make sense for them to be a branch of the Zonai. It also wouldn't make sense for the Zonai to teach the Shiekah about their own magic. The Shiekah have been a race tied to magic since the beginning. What we believe is Zonai magic seems more Spirit based. Shiekah magic seems quite a bit different.
This may be a dumb idea but what if the link we see flying in the sky isn't the age of calamity link he's the link from 100,000 years ago and we play as him through flashbacks or memories just spitballing here
while I think that would be interesting, I doubt they would do it because it could overcomplicate the story, as well as gameplay. if the time travel was indeed constricted to flashbacks I don't think that would make sense. I doubt they would create an entire sky realm for somewhat short segments of the overall game.
Whenever I see the wide shot of the floating castle, it looks like there's a large spike hanging down from the middle that the malice is surrounding. You can kind of find the silhouette of it if you go vertically down from the highest tower just past the lower half of the landmass. That's the right edge of the spike pillar thing. If the skyrule portions are really in the past, what if the giant building landed/went into the ground and Hyrule castle was built atop of it? Either that, or it's a larger part of the spike that we see the malice shoot at in the first trailer
One thing I noticed too is that Link's green hand has longer fingernails like the hand in the first trailer. Probably a silly thing to look at but it's interesting
Dump of ideas & thoughts from someone who is hyped but honestly has no clue as to what he's talking about: - The most obvious connection to the Zonai is the Dragon Sheild/Flamethrower weapon, but you probably don't need me to tell you that. - I highly doubt that the creature shown 37 seconds into the trailer is an enemy/monster, and is likely helping Link on his quest in the sky. I personally haven't played skyward sword, but the coloring reminds me of images I've seen of the robot tribe from that game. Could there be a connection? - The Sky version of Link legitimately screams "Hero of the Wild" at me, much more than the Ground version of Link. I think there is certainly a connection to the tapestry and the tale of the hero from 10,000 years ago, and am curious to know whether "history repeats itself" as Link wears the attire of the former hero (somehow) or if we are playing those sections as the hero of legend. - The Zonai almost had to have had some connection with sealing Gannondorf, as we see their architecture with murals on the walls depicting him on a horse in the first trailer. I don't think it's unreasonable to guess that the architecture we see in the sky could be an evolved form of the Zonai after they found the sky themselves, perhaps by following Farosh (I remember watching this theory but I don't remember who it was from). This new form of the Zonai could also be extinct as of now, but after living for a few thousand more years they developed a newer style of architecture, created their own technology via the magic they harnessed, and such.
I agree with the creature not being an enemy/monster. It uses green energy, not red energy/malice. I wonder if Link might be able to control the creature/statue with his arm, similar to the statues in TP's Temple of Time. Or maybe it comes to life when Link comes close, similar to the robots in SS (which was also because of time manipulation).
Not sure if you mentioned this, but concerning the islands/buildings themselves, the altars you mentioned honestly remind me of BOTW’s shrines, or the end of each one where the monk’s wait for the Link. Maybe an alternative to shrines in this game? Even tho I heard a lot of people wanting to shy away for shrines in the sequel.
The Zonai architecture looks a lot like the Fortress of the Winds from the Tabantha region (mistranslated in english to "castor wilds") which was made by the wind tribe a long time before the minish cap
With all the time reversal, and even music reversal, definitely possible the sky section is in the past, or is just too high up for you to see in the first game
And another thing here in LATAM (well actually Nintendo Spain) Aonuma San says that PART of the adventure is in the Sky, ok just a PART. Definitely we see more than a sky theme game :D
Well, it's not impossible, There is alot of blue and a theme of wisdom, learning and technology in BOTW. It seems to be a theme of green in this one, maybe this is courage? And then a 3rd game with a red theme, power...
Cool name would be “Sword of the Ages”. The sky could be a convergence of timelines. And the little buildings we see could be pedestals where we have to insert the Master sword to go back in time and do something, within that region of where the floating island is to alter the future. These time large traveling parts could be the dungeons of the game and smaller events could replace the shrines.
what if the Zonai had factions? each with a different Architecture but similar traits. Maybe this is linked to Link's new powers, Fire faction, Time faction and so on.
Another thing is that the energy is green. What color represents power? Red. Which represents Wisdom/Sheikah… Oh yeah blue. So this must represent Courage, we finally seem to have gotten access to the Triforce of Courage. Maybe the curse can end, or at least the calamity being repeated
I don't know why, but something about the intro and video description made me think up a meme/crossover. Picture this: the scene of Zelda falling, but before she hits the bottom of the chasm, the scene cuts to the interior of a structure. A loud thud can be heard, and then a familiar voice speaks: "For a brick, she flew pretty good!"
I think this is like the Wind tribe architecture shift, their old stuff fell into ruins and they developed their architecture after that which is what we see in minish cap. I think zonai also developed their architecture further after they left their former home on the ground
Those "Pinecone thingies" could actually be like...dragon egg shaped lights? We know the Zonai uses dragon designs pretty heavily in their architecture... Maybe they abandoned the surface long ago and somehow managed to start a new life in the sky...?
That big building makes me think of the home of the wind tribe in Minish Cap but also of Stone Tower Temple because you saw that one from termina field in the distance.
I'm really excited for the next episode. Something I had noticed was regarding the new stone, robot-like enemy. My initial thought was that it looked a bit like Malanya, the horse god. The long neck and its big head, along with the apparent floating hands, just remind me of the freaky god. Great video, can't wait to see more!
If you pause it, it is a zonai-style dragon head connected to a shield that spits out the flame. So it looks like we will have at least one shield-based weapon which is really cool!
I've been seeing a time travel theory going around, I'm going to say this, it's not time travel, it's just a different outfit, link has long shoulder length hair, as seen with the guardian helmet, this outfit just lets Link's hair down.
Aonuma keeps referencing botw while talking about the skyward sword remake. I’m sensing the floating architecture will definitely be linked officially in some way with time travel and skyloft.
@@paulsmith9192 the floating landscape of skyward fits the narrative for exactly what they needed to spice up the botw map. Its likely not “skyloft” but I doubt it’s it’s own new phenomenon in the timeline where land floats that would seem silly. Maybe, piece by piece, you turn back time and restore the floating land to its former glory to save the day. maybe they won’t call it skyloft but it will be implied. I doubt it’s a second event of land in the sky and it’s that land also fell from the sky in the past...what a coincidence 😏 who knows for sure though. Im not sure that don’t really understand your question though , and the part about ww and tp?
@@MonsterMaze imagine restoring it piece by piece. Every 3 “shrines” restores an island. The land shown in the first scene of link falling looks like a bigger, more completed piece of island I thought
only the legend of zelda community could look at a minute and a half trailer then make a ten minute long video analyzing the details and lore implications of the terrain in the trailer.
@Monster Maze One thing we looked at regarding the pillars missing showcased in NBC's video, is that if you go to that approximate location in the sky in BotW using glitches, the pillars are also gone from that distance, they don't render in from that far away, so that might be the case here as well, just load distance.
3:58 What makes you think it's an enemy? When I saw it it did cross my mind, but it could also be an ally. Maybe something that upgrades your hand, as it has the same green energy as the mysterious arm(You can see it when it lifts its head up). Or it could just be something that we talk to like an NPC.
Insane theory: What if part of southern Gerudo desert lifts up, dropping large amounts of sand and debris... exposing Arbiters Grounds... in the sky ?!?
I think the segments in the sky take place around the 1st Great Calamity and you play as the Hero from that time. And the segments on the grounds of Hyrule take place around the 2nd Great Calamity and you play as the Hero of the Wild.
This is my theory: In BOTW it was said that the zonai "Disappeared" just because they disappeared does not mean that they are extinct so what I'm saying here is that I think the Zonai ruins on the surface are ancient and the ones on the islands are modern Zonai I know there is not any NPC's in the trailer but the game is still in development and they may just not have been added yet. I truly believe this is a subject to look into. Thanks for all the work you do you make my day whenever a new video comes out.
Skyward Sword HD released? Return to Skyloft confirmed? I think this story might actually conclude the Legend of Zelda. End the Curse of Demise. End of an Era. Might be new games taking place in the Hylian Universe, but not Link, Zelda or Ganondorf anymore.
@@ryanc3609 True, but they've been pushing boundaries lately, Female Heroine with Linkle and voice acting. What started as a spin-off with Hyrule Warriors is now a Canon Prequel in Age of Calamity. Concluding the Legend is not entirely impossible, remember that Myamoto and others writers are pushing 70 - they might eventually tire of spinning the same story for over 30 years.
@@EinsamPibroch278 i think you may be jumping to conclusions a bit. If what you’re saying is true, majority of the LoZ identity will be changed to the point it’s no longer LoZ. In no way are they ever gonna replace or stop using Link as the protagonist permanently and if they do replace the characters then what would be the point of even calling it LoZ? It’s a fun idea to think about, but they’re not doing that drastic of a change
One common feature for all Zelda teaser trailers over the years is they only show early game areas. In TTP it was Hyrule Castle and field, in WW it was the Forsaken Fortress and Outset Island and for SS it was Skylight and Caron Woods. So everything you see here for BotW2 takes place early game too, meaning those underground sections are most likely Link exiting Ganondorf"s crypt.
Honestly I really like the idea of shorter hyper focused videos on little details, plus it helps your work load so better for both sides, good luck for your move! Take as much time as you need, we enjoy all your uploads!
I have a theory on what that green creature could be: 1. it seems to be friendly 2. it seems to be designed after a dragon 3. it has a broom on its chest (witches use brooms to fly 🤔) So i assume maybe this is our flying companion which we use to fly from one island to another. Instead of a Loftwing its a mechanical dragon powered by ancient power.
Theory time: If you go back to the scene in the reveal trailer where link has a flamethrower shield thing, right after he does a backflip, the mouth of the flamethrower glows green. Idk sounds a bit weird and might be foreshadowing someting.
Thank you so much for talking about the architecture. As a bit of a nerd it was the first thing to catch my eye. As mentioned in a recent video, I believe the NBC zonai part 2 one, zonai architecture is sort of a mix between Indian and Mesoamerican. Where As this seems to be somewhere between Japanese and Helenistic Greece. Japanese in shapes but Greek in construction, namely the cyclopean masonry (really big bricks.) That masonry style does show up in zonai (as it was also how a lot of mayan/Aztec things were built) but a lot more of the zonai stuff seems to be carved out if living rock (a trait seen mostly in Hindu temples, again with the Indian influence) I am a huge zonai fan but frankly I don't see much connections between the two styles. Not unless there's a big time difference between the two styles. I will say I believe the zonai stonework does contain a lot more square pillars where as classical greek/Japanese styles typically use round columns (with some notable exceptions) so that's at least a solid connection. Square pillars are pretty unique.
i was watching this video and replaying BOTW and found that by the entrance of the coliseum ruins, there are trees with golden/yellow leaves just like the ones shown on the sky islands!! just a fun thing i picked up! great analysis!~ cant wait to hear more!!
Here is a thought: why is skyward sword coming out? It has to correlate with BOTW... Hear me out: dragons portal same way as skyward sword. It shows it in the trailer and also, twilight princess sold more than skyward sword. It wouldn't make sense for nitendo to release this game unless it coensides theme wise with BOTW 2. For example, look at phantom hour glass and wind waker. Wind waker/phantom hourglass was a direct sequel and they released wind waker on Wii u and Wii. It was the more popular game on the DS. So it made sense. So now look at twilight and skyward... Twilight had more sales but skyward was a director favorite. So twilight would have came out on switch but it isnt because skyward is connected to or correlating with BOTW 2. WHICH nitendo supposably trademarked breath of evil. Just food for thought!
This is true, but both have a somewhat bad reputation because of some of their flaws, so community wise they may as well be even level. I also have to point out Twilight already got remastered for Wii U (unfortunately) and I hardly doubt they'd port it a sscond time to the Switch, which is probably a more likely reason. The whole Skyrule and Skyloft connection however? Big brain Nintendo.
First of all, that thumbnail is absolutely gorgeous! Absolutely one of the best I've ever seen. Amazing video, and it's always impressive just how fast you manage to improve upon your videos. Editing, voice over, script etc. You're doing great, man!
Eiji anouma: can we make another BOTW 2 trailer for the game awards that doesn’t have anything zonai related in it? The rest of the Zelda team: dude that’s impossible
One of the stable kids speaks of a Kingdom in the sky, which only good kids can see. Good... children.... I'll leave it at that, don't want to say too much (insert eyeball emoji here).
There was an interesting detail on the green shoulder garb that sky link wears. And I think it matches the design found in the tapestry. Looks somewhat Zonai in origin to me. (add the fact that his hair is down and his arm... and I'm seeing the two being the same link. Would be a weird and longest time travel done in the series...)
I can't help but notice the iconography on the shield and its similarities to the lizard like boss. Not to mention it's Shiekah-esk and has the same green glow of Link's arm when it connects at the neck.
One detail that I haven't seen any one mention yet is that the great deku tree is missing in the shot with the bokoblins on the stone talus. If you go to this exact spot in BOTW you can see the tree very clearly off in the distance next to death mountain.
In the shot at 2:40 it appears that there’s some kind of crater at lon lon ranch as the small cliff shape left of the ruined tower can’t be seen in botw
I would like to point out just one observation that I didn't see often in any video on the net now. I believe that the game will have two quite differentiated sections: 1.- One that starts with Link and his previous powers and probably extended powers in a quest to find out why malice is being expanded lately (one thing that he may have noticed due to the changes in the land and enemies, horns on bokoblins or other events that we ignore up to this moment) and ends until Zelda and Link dive deep into Hyrule castle ruins and find the corpse of Ganon and then all the chain of events happen when Zelda gets lost and Link gets defeated, losing his master sword and being saved by that 'green light arm' 2.- The second part would start after Link awakes from his 'resurrection' thanks to the arm and falls in my opinion from Ganon's castle down. Then he finds out that when the castle lifted up, also other ruins did lift up as well. In this second part Link would set himself once again in a quest to rescue Zelda and defeat Ganon's malice. Based on above statements, I think that the clips shown when Link wears the hero's clothes slightly modified (blue tunic) from BOTW1 belong to the first fragment of the game and the ones shown with his hair untied and half of his body naked would belong to the second fragment of the game. Thus, I think there is no time travel here.
I think the floating islands are chunks of another dimension into which Ganon is trying to get. My guess is that it's the Sacred Realm: it's beautiful, forested by golden trees, and engulfed in golden light. The architecture, as you mentioned, resembles those gates (I forgot their name), which in Shintoism, mark the entrance into a sacred place or the domain of a kami (a spirit/deity).
One thought I had is that perhaps that shot where we see the sky is at the very beginning of the game, as Link doesn’t have any equipment except that set of clothing which could be the equivalent of the worn out clothing set in the first game.
6:49 Random theory about Zonai involvement. So we know that the Sheikah tribe split into Ganon-followers and peaceful Kakariko-dwellers. What if a similar thing happened with the Zonai? Their strong magic made the Hyrulean royal family fear the tribe, so they were given an ultimatum. "Forget your magical ways or we will hunt you down," the royals declared. The Zonai, feeling conflicted, split into two. The Ganon-followers, much like the Yiga, made a home base in a deserted region. However, the Barbarian Zonai's new home base was Faron Woods. Perhaps the theory of the Barbarian armor's paint is true, and it was enhanced by Ganon. The peaceful Zonai ended up settling somewhere (underground?) and then they made the buildings/structures that would somehow end up in the sky. These Zonai were looked at by their Barbarian counterparts as traitors, especially if they actually had a hand in sealing Ganon. Of course, the Barbarians were thought to be traitors by the peaceful Zonai. This was way more in-depth than I'd thought it would be but I do think this would be quite the ironic plot twist, showing that maybe the Hyrulean royals aren't always "good..."
i really thought that if there were floating islands, there would be new craters/holes in the ground to explore but you brought up an excellent point i hope we get more news occasionally great vid man keep it up
Something that stood out to me was that the shots we have of blue tunic link on the ground show an empty sky with no islands. That tells me that the islands are either in a different time (likely 10,000 years ago) or different dimension (throwback to link to the past and the dark world). If it was a different dimension, perhaps this is the Sacred Realm. Still I don't think we'll see these islands rise up or come down given the open sky shots we see.
I was subscribed to the idea that the floating islands were in the past (possibly the arm holding Gannon in the first trailer was link’s arm from 10,000 years ago, and we are reliving his memories after inheriting his arm) until you pointed out the strange structures at 2:49.
The shot of Lon Lon Ranch with the two new pieces of debris disproves the game taking place in the past. The ruins from the recent calamity are still clearly visible. I would like to add that the pillars that MaskedNintendoBandit brought up are also clearly not zonai. They’re ancient hylian like the ones seen on the akkala coast. Either way, it is definitely strange that they’re missing.
A channel called "Legend Zone" posted recently a video reminding about The Dragons around Hyrule ... who fly upwards and desapear passing through a portal in the Sky. That Reminds of another game where there's portals to travel between surface and sky filled with floating islands. Although the sky seem to be clear from the surface.
I saw someone mention that perhaps the floating islands were always there hidden by the cloud barrier like is seen in Skyward sword, where skyloft and the other islands are not visible from the surface. This also supports the idea that the game might be set in the distant past 10000 years ago with a possible connection to skyward sword. Also you menion that the Moblins are wearing 'hats' but I don't believe that's the case either, someone on twitter mentioned that they actually seem to resemble the skull-head thing of a Pachycephalosaurus (basically a hardend skull to ram into things) once again suppoting the idea of it postentially taking place in the distant past. One last thing I noticed myself that's a little unrelated to these is that I theorised that the reason we linger on the final shot for so long is that maybe they had originally had a title drop there but decided to cut it last minute as maybe the title might contain a clue to an element of mechanic of the game that might be a bit of a spoiler.
I'd say that the light posts near the floating architecture is similar to the lights in the shrines where you have to utilize electricity to navigate. Also, the electricity in botw is the same kind of green as the new abilities in the trailer.
I we get to control robots, that would be cool. But there have been similar enemies that don't seem very menacing, but are still hostile. We shall see!
Maybe that green stone thing that keeps getting labeled as an enemy is actually something that helps Link on his quest. I dont necessarily get enemy vibes from it. Could be one of many scattered throughout the sky Islands that maybe give helpful hints, items or power ups.
The buildings all over that have pillars, stairs and little orbs around remind me of the end of shrines, where the monk sits. Maybe in the calamity they fall from the sky and become the shrine trials in botw. Maybe its the opposite, they didn't rise, they were always in the sky until the day they all fell...
The water droplet scene definitely points to the floating islands being old, since it seems that the drips carved into the rock over many years. Of course this doesn't mean it's the past, the island could have been obscured by the clouds all along.
Thankful you mentioned Ancient Greek aesthetic for outfit Bc while ofc princess mononoke and other Asian cultures are are represented in botw I found it interesting that the loading screens in BotW but more so in Age of Calamity (which can be taken with a grain of salt) is very reminiscent of Ancient Greek art with how they depicted their mythologies. The ancient tapestry is also very similar to Ancient Greek style art depicting stories
It's very interesting that you mention Link's new clothing looks Greek because, as a history nerd, those shrines look like Mycenaean Greek structures to me. Those pillars that are smaller on the bottom than they are on top is a classic icon of Mycenaean architecture and it would lend credence to the idea that some of the game might take place in the ancient past since Mycenaean Greece is a very old civilization, dating to around 1600 BCE and was the precursor to Classical Greece which everyone knows already.
Ok, this is a big stretch, but here is something I noticed. In the link that’s in the sky, the part of his outfit on his shoulder has a design on it. The design reminds me a lot of the champion’s scarves which had the design of their divine beasts. The design is obscured so we can only see what looks like a tail. The green stone golem thing that we see has a design that looks like a lizard. Also, it seems to be powered by the same green energy from the magic hand, which mine mean that it’s a good guy. So, in short, it may be vaguely possible that the obscured design on link’s shoulder might be of the green stone golem (2:22) which might play a major role in the game.
Ganondorf is also wearing garb similar to the “ancient” Link, and given that this Ganondorf is from at least 10,000 years ago, I’d say we’re likely to play as both present Link and ancient Link.
The puddle of the reverse drop comes out of a Zonai structure on the ground. It's either an eye of a dragon or one of them neat swirls we see in their architecture.
In that last shot, even though Hyrule Castle is floating, we can’t see any islands in the sky. Considering that this game seems to focus on the sky element, it doesn’t make sense that we can’t see any islands. This leads me to believe that you are correct in time travel. In one time, we’ll be in BOTW’s new landscape, while in the other we may even go back as far as Skyward Sword.
4:02 I don't think it is a enemy. More like a robot caretaker/protector like in Laputa - Castle in the Sky 3:34 Yes, hopefully it is not a dungeon. :) 9:17 Castle doesn't even seem to be floating. Looks like there is a pillar in the middle. (Upper part wider pillar like in those floating island structures.)
The new green robot looks to me like a Serpent/dragon or some type of lizard (which ties in with Farosh representing courage along with the green colour for courage too). Like the two holes are its eyes, with the middle eye being like a head crest and the cone things are like its ears with those eye symbols looking like earrings. Might just be me that see's it like haha

The Zonai could have developed a different architectural style over time.
@@Joe-nb8rd It's also particularly interesting how the new wooden shield has resemblance to Sheikah and at the same time it doesn't...
I think Link’s right hand was infected with Ganon’s malice so the glowing guy had to build a hand armor to shield it.
@@Agent-Ig He can't touch it, it repels malice, that is why Link had to drop the sword or something. He was being infected with malice
Skyrule! I like that.
The wind tribe...
In one game Zelda Castle is in the sky. Just like in the Super Smash Bro’s game
the scripture is also very similar to the sky characters that link needs to find for the ancient sky book in twilight princess
There are skyloft carvings on the Lanayru ruins.
Hey Monster Maze, I have a request. Maybe you could try and add the second trailer to your chronological version of the first trailer? I realize if you cant do this, but I think it would very cool and add onto the hype of the both trailers

@@MonsterMaze 🤗🤗😍😍😍😯😯👏👏👏❤❤🤗🤗
got a heart from the lad lets gooooo.
Also some really good replies here!
I only doubt Skyloft cus BOTW and Skward shared the same font text and we see Skyloft architecture in BOTW and it's nothing like what we're seeing here, so its either much much older or newer but still somehing *ancient* cus of the SPECIFIC design choice for the new font.)
and Zelda does little nods and easter eggs like that often for storytelling reasons ie using Jomon jars for the guarduans and shrines designs to make them feel old and ancient.
That could definitely be an explanation
I have a couple of thoughts about the new teaser, as well as some predictions, I’m interested to hear what people here think:
1) The first frames are a dream/premonition - A couple of months ago, a Zelda theorists came up with the idea that Zelda and Link sought out Ganondorf after having a dream, very similar to what happened in ocarina of time.
You must note that the robot seen in the trailer has multiple sheika eye symbols
The 2nd and 3rd theorys are just so cool, especially the 2nd one would be mindblowing, just wow.
This may be a dumb idea but what if the link we see flying in the sky isn't the age of calamity link he's the link from 100,000 years ago and we play as him through flashbacks or memories just spitballing here
Your dumb idea is actually very popular among the people.
Not too spitbally. This is my pet theory as well.
Not 100,000 years ago, only 10,000 years ago.
Playing through the memories of an ancestor. Botw 2: Hylia's Creed
while I think that would be interesting, I doubt they would do it because it could overcomplicate the story, as well as gameplay. if the time travel was indeed constricted to flashbacks I don't think that would make sense.
I think the castle might be raised, not actually floating. One giant sink plug that the malice is flowing out of now that it’s not trapped
@@Joe-nb8rd I'm with you on that. It looks like it's floating, but taking the spike into account I don't think think it is either
I’ve been saying this!! There is something in the middle that in the trailer the malice is covering, but if you watch slow there is something there!
I'm pretty sure it's just apart of the ground being lifted underneath Hyrule Castle.
One thing I noticed too is that Link's green hand has longer fingernails like the hand in the first trailer. Probably a silly thing to look at but it's interesting
No not silly I said the same thing. He got his nail FOD!!
Not silly at all. Because the hand is from another person (perhaps the ancient hero), it might be slowly changing Link!
@@darss10 I love that theory! It makes sense especially since we don’t see the green hand after it grabs Link
Dump of ideas & thoughts from someone who is hyped but honestly has no clue as to what he's talking about:
- The most obvious connection to the Zonai is the Dragon Sheild/Flamethrower weapon, but you probably don't need me to tell you that.
This architecture looks a lot like that of the wind tribe from the minish cap.
The Zonai architecture looks a lot like the Fortress of the Winds from the Tabantha region (mistranslated in english to "castor wilds") which was made by the wind tribe a long time before the minish cap
I thought that as well
Wasn't there supposed to be a huge nod to that game in BoTW?
@@JariDawnchild Yeah, they almost added in the Minish but changed that probably last minute
oh that's what I thought too
With all the time reversal, and even music reversal, definitely possible the sky section is in the past, or is just too high up for you to see in the first game
But it wouldn’t be possible to time travel since it would just create an alternative timeline just like age of calamity
Or its the sacred barrier, hylia create thousand years ago. You can even see dragons entering a portal after passing their way through hyrule.
And another thing here in LATAM (well actually Nintendo Spain) Aonuma San says that PART of the adventure is in the Sky, ok just a PART. Definitely we see more than a sky theme game :D
I don’t know, but the architecture that is shown in the game looks just like the architecture of the people of the skies in minish cap 😬
remember they wanted to include the minish in Botw 1 but that content got cut/never left the drawing board.
That could also mean that the shot with the drop transforming into Link ist him shrinking down 🤔
YES
There’s a bunch of parrots in the wind ruins and the first shot of link on a floating island has very similar birds.
@@peanutbutter6720 what type of Rito is the bard again??!! from BoTW
Here's betting that this is the second game in a trilogy known as the breath trilogy
It’s the third game if you include age of calamity
@@blitzgaming8466 i don't think that counts, its a side game, alternate timeline and probably not canon, if it is, it will never be heard of again
who knows maybe the game events take place at a different time even considering the devine beasts are missing.
Well, it's not impossible, There is alot of blue and a theme of wisdom, learning and technology in BOTW. It seems to be a theme of green in this one, maybe this is courage? And then a 3rd game with a red theme, power...
If they do go with the time traveling aspect, it could be called "Breath of the Past".
A loud thud can be heard, and then a familiar voice speaks:
"For a brick, she flew pretty good!"
Comedy gold :)
@@MonsterMaze Thanks, I'm glad to see the random crossover ideas I get can make for good memes
I'm telling you, it's the Sacred Realm merging with Hyrule
What period do you have?
This actually might make sense. This might even be where the dragons disappear to when they enter the portal in the sky
I think this is like the Wind tribe architecture shift, their old stuff fell into ruins and they developed their architecture after that which is what we see in minish cap. I think zonai also developed their architecture further after they left their former home on the ground
Oh so the zonai moved into skyloft nice
Those "Pinecone thingies" could actually be like...dragon egg shaped lights? We know the Zonai uses dragon designs pretty heavily in their architecture... Maybe they abandoned the surface long ago and somehow managed to start a new life in the sky...?
That big building makes me think of the home of the wind tribe in Minish Cap but also of Stone Tower Temple because you saw that one from termina field in the distance.
Maybe the structures come from a sky race that’ll be new to the game? Either way, BOTW 2 hype!!!!!!
"...so that's pretty neat I would say."

I'm surprised that it took this long for someone to mention the bokoblin horns.
Really?! It's the most important finding of all!
@@MonsterMaze it's a close tie with Moblin hats!
I've seen plenty of people mention them. I noticed it right away in the trailer.
I just realized, in the shot with the flamethrower it's on the opposite are as the new "Shika slate arm". Meaning this could be a new weapon.
If you pause it, it is a zonai-style dragon head connected to a shield that spits out the flame. So it looks like we will have at least one shield-based weapon which is really cool!
Yeah it is!
Did someone say Z O N A I weapons?
I've been seeing a time travel theory going around, I'm going to say this, it's not time travel, it's just a different outfit, link has long shoulder length hair, as seen with the guardian helmet, this outfit just lets Link's hair down.
"Also, Moblins wear hats now. So that's pretty neat, I would say." 😆
Aonuma keeps referencing botw while talking about the skyward sword remake. I’m sensing the floating architecture will definitely be linked officially in some way with time travel and skyloft.
That's EXACTLY what i was thinking!🤣
I hope so! I want to visit the ruins of Skyloft so badly
@Linda Mooney they probably definitely connected.they why they brought skyward to switch and not wind waker and twilight
That robotic greenish enemy for some reason reminds of an armos or eyegore.
There's a very high chance it's a reimagining of the Eyegore (Armos is more classical but the Eyegore looks more similar)
@@moemuxhagi Eyegore would fit with BOTW's theme of bringing back older enemies.

only the legend of zelda community could look at a minute and a half trailer then make a ten minute long video analyzing the details and lore implications of the terrain in the trailer.
@Monster Maze
One thing we looked at regarding the pillars missing showcased in NBC's video, is that if you go to that approximate location in the sky in BotW using glitches, the pillars are also gone from that distance, they don't render in from that far away, so that might be the case here as well, just load distance.
We never see Link's face after the first sky scene
3:58 What makes you think it's an enemy? When I saw it it did cross my mind, but it could also be an ally. I think the segments in the sky take place around the 1st Great Calamity and you play as the Hero from that time. And the segments on the grounds of Hyrule take place around the 2nd Great Calamity and you play as the Hero of the Wild.
the joke at the start had me laughing
It was so casual 💀
Yeah they’re never getting rid of those three, they’re like the Mario, Luigi, and Bowser of the series
Nah
One common feature for all Zelda teaser trailers over the years is they only show early game areas. In TTP it was Hyrule Castle and field, in WW it was the Forsaken Fortress and Outset Island and for SS it was Skylight and Caron Woods. So everything you see here for BotW2 takes place early game too, meaning those underground sections are most likely Link exiting Ganondorf"s crypt.
I guess Nintendo found out that zelda wasn't much of a legend if she was still alive so the had to act fast...
Honestly I really like the idea of shorter hyper focused videos on little details, plus it helps your work load so better for both sides, good luck for your move! Take as much time as you need, we enjoy all your uploads!
I have a theory on what that green creature could be:
1. it seems to be friendly
2. it seems to be designed after a dragon
3. it has a broom on its chest (witches use brooms to fly 🤔)
So i assume maybe this is our flying companion which we use to fly from one island to another. Instead of a Loftwing its a mechanical dragon powered by ancient power.
The broom point makes sense.
Theory time:
If you go back to the scene in the reveal trailer where link has a flamethrower shield thing, right after he does a backflip, the mouth of the flamethrower glows green. Idk sounds a bit weird and might be foreshadowing someting.
This trailer was epic af
Thank you so much for talking about the architecture. As a bit of a nerd it was the first thing to catch my eye.
As mentioned in a recent video, I believe the NBC zonai part 2 one, zonai architecture is sort of a mix between Indian and Mesoamerican.
Where As this seems to be somewhere between Japanese and Helenistic Greece. Japanese in shapes but Greek in construction, namely the cyclopean masonry (really big bricks.)
That masonry style does show up in zonai (as it was also how a lot of mayan/Aztec things were built) but a lot more of the zonai stuff seems to be carved out if living rock (a trait seen mostly in Hindu temples, again with the Indian influence)
I am a huge zonai fan but frankly I don't see much connections between the two styles. Not unless there's a big time difference between the two styles.
I will say I believe the zonai stonework does contain a lot more square pillars where as classical greek/Japanese styles typically use round columns (with some notable exceptions) so that's at least a solid connection. Square pillars are pretty unique.
That opening really hurt lol. I’d hate if Zelda was locked away the whole game again it’s such a waste of a good character
Yuuup
i was watching this video and replaying BOTW and found that by the entrance of the coliseum ruins, there are trees with golden/yellow leaves just like the ones shown on the sky islands!! just a fun thing i picked up! great analysis!~ cant wait to hear more!!

@@joesunday199 F, it's a fun game (and may tie into this heavily with the Minish)
:0
In the shot at 2:40 it appears that there’s some kind of crater at lon lon ranch as the small cliff shape left of the ruined tower can’t be seen in botw
So more people did notice that.
I would like to point out just one observation that I didn't see often in any video on the net now. I believe that the game will have two quite differentiated sections:
1.- One that starts with Link and his previous powers and probably extended powers in a quest to find out why malice is being expanded lately (one thing that he may have noticed due to the changes in the land and enemies, horns on bokoblins or other events that we ignore up to this moment) and ends until Zelda and Link dive deep into Hyrule castle ruins and find the corpse of Ganon and then all the chain of events happen when Zelda gets lost and Link gets defeated, losing his master sword and being saved by that 'green light arm'
2.- The second part would start after Link awakes from his 'resurrection' thanks to the arm and falls in my opinion from Ganon's castle down.
6:49
Random theory about Zonai involvement.
This was way more in-depth than I'd thought it would be but I do think this would be quite the ironic plot twist, showing that maybe the Hyrulean royals aren't always "good..."
i really thought that if there were floating islands, there would be new craters/holes in the ground to explore but you brought up an excellent point
i hope we get more news occasionally
great vid man keep it up
0:49 - Pictured: Monster Maze moving house
Purah loves a good analysis
Although the sky seem to be clear from the surface.
at 3:30 the dragon on links shield looks kinda like the dragon statues in the zonai region
The new robot "enemy" isn't an enemy, it's powered by green hand energy (you can see that for a few frames). Also, it looks really sympathetic
I we get to control robots, that would be cool. But there have been similar enemies that don't seem very menacing, but are still hostile. We shall see!
@@MonsterMaze by the way, it also has a broom symbol on it, which makes me think it might be a caretaker/worker/roomba of these flying Islands
Reminds me of the Sacred Realm artwork from the LttP manual. It could be why all the trees have gold colored leaves.
Y'know I like the idea that the floating islands are above the cloud barrier it's a nice continuity detail
I don't know if anyone else realized, but the trailer was uploaded in 1080p 60fps, the Switch couldn't even handle 900p 30fps all the time...
Ahh dude, that Ocarina transition blew my mind. Of course Ganon would have this ability XD
The symbols around the hand could be some sort of ancient gerudo script
More like a robot caretaker/protector like in Laputa - Castle in the Sky
3:34 Yes, hopefully it is not a dungeon. :)
9:17 Castle doesn't even seem to be floating.
