Anothere awesome day for you Les , some great captures there matey , Andania looked like new with that fantastic paint job and the kettle sounded superb pulling away well done thanks for sharing take care a t b syd👍
I was waiting for the Azusa to come up or down the Tyne Valley line . To see them snake down is lovely. The service departing north you can see both sides of the train , nice. Then three heritage units all in the same place. Then superpower !! 4 locos hauling 2 flasks. Two for redundancy but 4 must have been a power move. Brilliant good work. Live it.
Hi Leslie, nice mix of rail traffic. Why is that the Sellafield train usually has 2 locos for such a small movement and this time 4 locos for 2 wagons? I presume it's to do with safety and security.
Its basically a power move. The flask trains need a pair of locos for redundancy should one break down. However a lot of locos seem to end up at Sellafield and need to move back to Kingmoor depot.
Another lovely video leslie very good camera work as usual I am really looking forward to seeing your next video I hope you get a nice video next time also when is your next video going to be on UA-cam bye for now Philip
It's always the heritage lcocs that catch the eye. D213 looks magnificent! Goes without saying Leander is gorgeous too. It may have not been to everyone's taste at the time, but the BR lined black livery & early emblem do look good on preseved locos.
Indeed. And a forty is always a favourite as is a Jubilee. I porefer them in green of course but no doubt the owners will repaint it after the boiler exam.
I thought that! At least the regular passenger trains didn't get in the way! Saying that I nearly lost one shot because of a late running intermodal (which wasn't recorded)
Andania is obviously an older loco, very classic. Does the "D" mean "deltic" or just an old classification? I did not now the 57s were called bodysnatchers! There has to be a story there. Great video, just sad to read that so much disruption occurred between strikes, accidents, and more. I have not heard the extent of damage on the Royal Scot or Flying Scotsman since the accident. Clearly, bad enough to warrant cancelling some trips. Glad you are home safe and hope you had a great time over here!
Thanks Anthony. Andania is a class 40. These were introduced around 1960 to replace the express steam on east and west coast mainlines. They were seen as too heavy compared to class 37s which were effectively a development of the 40s. I had to Google a railway nickname beginning with B and that came up. 57s are re-engined class 47s.
There was no chance of that nuclear flask train becoming stranded due to loco failure! If 57s are nicknamed "Bodysnatchers", then what should 69s be known as? "Bodysnatchers 2", or "Return of the Bodysnatchers" perhaps?
Oh, the resource planners at LNER had you in mind when they scheduled successively numbered Azumas to be in adjacent platforms at Carlisle - TWICE. They knew you couldn't resist commenting. The exclamation mark proves it.
I needn't worry about cancellations, since in the immortal words of hopefully soon to be former Transport Minster or Secretary or whatever he is Grant Shapps, "Adter all, you've got to ask, does anyone actually travel these days?"😒🙄😑
Well plenty would travel if there was reliability - you only have to travel on LNER to see that passenger numbers are coming back. Of course he's defence secretary now - war ? no war now so who needs defence
Wonderful video of all the heritage locos Les!
Glad you enjoyed it
@Leslie Gilpin Railways love you're content
Thanks
Well! Well! Good to see you still in with the trains Les!
Best wishes!
Malcolm Hewson
Hello boss, god that was a long time ago! This all restarted when I took the money and ran!
Nice one again Les! Great variety at the Citadel! Love the shot at 15:15 , deisel ,electric and steam, and th4 x 68s on the flasks
Thanks Phil, the day offered some good opportunities for recording.
Good vid Leslie, great catch on those 4 class 68s on the flasks, I got a few of these down at Acton bridge and Crewe
That train often has 4 locos but on non-strike days runs a few hours later. Thanks!

thanks for sharing take care a t b syd👍
It was a good day! Thanks
Great video as always allowed Leander coming out of the steamy mist heading for Coast. Well done you
Many thanks!
Epic day for you Leslie...amazing variety at Carlisle. All the best.
Thanks Tim - just shows strike days aren't always boring! Mind it would have been busier if that 66 hadn't shed its coupling north of Chirch Stretton!
Hope you had a good time, glad you're back safe.
Very good time - look out for the vids !

It was good wasn't it. Yes a power move, firly frequent on a Saturday.
Wow, quite the mix there, Leslie. A thoroughly good watch, as always.
Thanks! Royal Scot would have rounded things off but there we are!

There was more to see than on a none strike day. Enjoyed this

@@LeslieGilpinRailways Incredible how that happens even on a quiet day

Whilst steam was about all diesel loco's started with D + their number.

Leslie is that the original name plate for leander?
I've actually no idea especially whether the original nameplates were sold at withdrawal and before preservation.
Unlikely, as most were sold off or preseved. The colours are prototypical though.
Is four 68s to pull 2 flasks enough?
Two are standard with the others being moved to Kingmoor depot saving a separate train

Thanks!

Yes, that's what they're always doubleheaded
I hadn't realised they were called that but needed a rail term begining with B and thats what google presented me with!
Oh, the resource planners at LNER had you in mind when they scheduled successively numbered Azumas to be in adjacent platforms at Carlisle - TWICE. They knew you couldn't resist commenting. The exclamation mark proves it.
Its always good when it happens!
Crikey, 4 cats on the flasks, bonkers
That train often takes a pair of spare locos from Sellafield to Kingmoor so really saves a separate light engine move.
4 x 68's Les....cool..
Always a good train on a Saturday for DRS Convoys
