How I miss the sounds of Jazz Fest, French Quarter Fest, the Lafayette Square fests and many more. Covid 19 and now hurricane Ida has done us wrong. We love the sounds of Tuba Skinny. 💃🕺🏼

Shaye is almost unique among conductors in taking 10 to 15 measures to set the initial beat. I don't know whether the band needs it, but Shaye does -- it shows how thoroughly she is preparing herself for each number in which she leads this remarkable ensemble.

A suggestion for Tuba Skinny: every time a sweet child comes to deposit a tip in your box do this (preparation required in advance) : call the child, ask his/her name and then take your special card, manually add the child's name to the pre-printed Tuba Skinny logo / name and inscription with that phrase "Tuba Skinny band loves {child's name here} for your contribution! We're here to give you joy through our music ❤️"

Be fair - they seem to be there to dance. They appear in at least 1 other video of this session.
Max's tune here is impressively complicated in structure, with the deception that's it's a simple melody. He obviously put a lot of thought, effort and time into this music. The key changes are as good as anything Shaye Cohn has written, and that is not an easy challenge. Then it goes into a bridge with solos, with only two chords, the IV-I pattern over and over, but that's where that members solo and wail. Seems most of these band members can write anything for the band. This sounds as good as or even better than anything Randy Newman has written in this style for movie themes [and made a lot of money from - Monsters Inc, Toy Story, etc]. Congratulations Max on a superior "traditional jazz" composition.
