When I was a young boy my dad bought me a saxophone because I was interested in the music of Benny Goodman, I was interested in music but not interested enough in learning how to master it, He then bought me a motorcycle, a competition motorcycle which I rode with great success, culminating in the ultimate accolade of being a works supported rider. I was, due to a horrendous injury forced into early retirement, but he love of music is forever in my soul, from my early days listening to Elvis, Jerry Lee, Benny Goodman, Kathleen Ferrier, loving Beethoven, Mahler, through to Mississippi Fred McDowell, music has, for me been the great leveler, it is the only thing in this world that unites people, it is the unexplained medium which unites all peoples, it is, even to those familiar with its various cadences, an unexplained phenomena.

I just found this on you tube. My husband took me to New Orleans for my birthday February 2020 just before the shutdown and if I had seen this group playing I would have felt a lot better about the trip. Not a lot of authentic music there anymore! Catering now to a younger crowd that knows nothing about jazz and blues and it was just sad. But the town is still so unique and the food was amazing 🤩 when I listen to this I want to go back 😀

Definitely my favorite group to come out of New Orleans! I recently got to see them live down there and it was fantastic!
Must admit seeing Tuba Skinny in New Orleans is on my bucket list , guess there aren’t any direct flights from the Isle of Man!!

The girl with the trumpet is obviously the leader of this group. I've played in bands long enough to recognize the leadership cues of who's next up for a solo. Wherever she looks next is who's on deck. Good silent communication with this group. They've obviously been playing together a long time.
And she's no weak sister WITH THOSE CHOPS!! EVERYTHING IS RIGHT THERE!

I'm not 100% sure but I think that is a Dixieland tradition, to have a leadrer call the solos and other changes

I suspect they are already a national treasure in New Orleans. I'm not sure how the rest of the US feels about it but I doubt New Orleans cares very much!

I'm listening to this over here in Kazakhstan. Whenever I hear New Orleans Jazz... I immediately get a craving for a giant bowl of Crawfish Étouffée and some Fried Chicken with Red Beans & Rice from Willie Mae's Scotch House in the Treme!

This group is a national treasure. I've no idea how they snuck into my domain, northern VT last summer and I had no idea of there being there until they'd left. Truly a disappointment. I do not exaggerate.....a national treasure.

This is why i love my city on any given street corner you can find this .. yes we have many problems like most places but its the spirit its the soul the love... where you can go anywhere to live but this will always be home ..

Written by New Orleans trumpeter and band leader, Dave Bartholomew and "Fats" Domino recorded by Fat's and released in 1961. Tube Skinny plays it in "Dixieland" fashion making it sound older and like no other group of musicians can!

Fats and Dave Bartholomew wrote it, but Dave recorded it 6 years before Fats did. Both versions just terrific.
